William Harry Jackson

ALBANY — William Harry Jackson, 56, of 2030 W. Riverview Circle died Friday, May 19, 2006, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jordan Grove Baptist Church, 938 Oakland Rd., Leesburg, with interment in Floral Memory Garden cemetery in Albany. The Rev. Dr. R.O. Calhoun will officiate.

Born September 8, 1949, in Lee County, Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Lee County High School. He was an Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Jordan Grove Baptist Church where he served as secretary of the deacon board, president of the 1 usher board and scout master. He was also a member of the Golden Key Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sapp-Jackson of Albany; one son, Derrick L. Jackson (Angelia) of Albany; three daughters, Deborah Jackson Snells of Albany, Shirley Jackson of Yonkers, NY, and Regina Jackson of Thomasville; his mother, Eula M. Jackson of Albany; one brother, Isaac Jackson Jr. (Bettie) of Acworth; one sister, Ethel L. Roberson (Charlie) of Albany; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The remains of Mr. Jackson will be placed in the church Saturday evening from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Mitchell Lee Swan Sr.

ALBANY — Mitchell Lee Swan Sr., 71, of 1106 Auburn Drive Apt. B died Thursday, May 18, 2006, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bibleway Baptist Church with interment in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Reginald Swan will officiate.

Born August 20, 1934, in Dougherty County, Mr. Swan was retired from Lykes Brothers Packing Co. He was a member of Second Bethesda Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Annie V. Swan; six sons, Davis Lee (Carolyn) Swan of Albany, Mitchell Lee (Carmen) Swan Jr. of San Antonio, TX, Peter (Katherine) Gilbert of Albany, Nathaniel Swan of Albany, the Rev. Reginald (Evangelist Rachel H.) Swan of Albany, Bobby Lee Swan of Albany; four daughters, Mattie R. Swan Jones, Mary Ann (Sim) Daniels, Linda Sutton (Burnett), Carolyn (Paul) Davis of Albany; four brothers, Jimmy L. (Roxia) Swan of Albany, Willie L. (Sue May) Swan of Harrisburg, PA, Eddie Jay (Deloris) of Columbus, John (Flora) Swan of Albany; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Nix, Martha Jackson, Curlie Bell Swan of Albany; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

ALBANY — Charlie Ed (Skate) Turner Sr., 70, of 956 Corn Ave. died Thursday, May 18, 2006, at Albany Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Flint Community with interment in Bethel Baptist Church cemetery in Mitchell County.

Maggie Turner

ALBANY — Maggie Turner, 92, of Tampa, FL, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Shady Palms Assisted Living.

The funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday at Kimbrell-Stern. Minister Bill Rowdon will officiate. Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Mausoleum.

A native of Memphis, TN, Mrs. Turner lived in Albany since 1959, where she was a member of Dawson Rd. Church of Christ for 40 years. She had previously moved back to Tampa for the past 8 to 9 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Turner.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris Beck and her husband, Allen of Albany, Evelyn Corbin and her husband, Bill of Albany, Helen Durham and her husband, Dan of Somerville, TN, and Gloria Cumerlato of Somerville, TN; three sons, William Turner and his wife, Dot of Albany, Robert Turner and his wife, Donna of Norfolk, VA, Bill G. Turner and his wife, Barbara of Albany; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday (today) at Kimbrell-Stern from 7 PM to 9 PM.

David Eugene Countryman Sr.

DAWSON — Deacon David Eugene Countryman Sr. died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, GA.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Graves, GA. The Rev. J.C. Baker pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Dawson, GA.

At an early age David, Sr. accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Graves, GA, where he served as a Deacon until his health failed. He received his education in the Terrell County Public School System, Dawson, GA.

David Sr. married Georgia A. Brown and to this union two children were born, Alice and David, Jr. He later married Mamie Fulse and to this union two children were born, Frederick and Vontrecia David, also has one other daughter, Katherine.

David was employed as truck driver, tire rebuilder and backhoe operator for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Moses Countryman, Sr. and Faire Countryman; two sisters, Rosa M. Hagans, Redether Jordan; and one brother, Willie James Countryman.

Deacon David, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mamie Fulse Countryman of Dawson, GA; four daughters, Alice Carter (Bobby), Vontrecia Ross (Rev. Willie) and Janet Benjamin, all of Dawson, GA, and Katherine Shelley of Cuthbert, GA; two sons, 1st Sgt. (Retired U.S. Army) David Eugene Countryman, Jr. (Cassandra) of Columbus, GA, and Frederick Countryman (MS Specialist Felecia, U.S. Navy) of Dawson, GA; two sons he raised as his own, Johnny Alexander (Shirley) and Douglas Alexander (Kellie), both of Dawson, GA; three sisters, Rebecca Humphrey of Dawson, GA, Lula Whitfield and Eddie Dean Freeman (William), both of Jacksonville, FL; four brothers, Dea. Richard Countryman of Columbus, OH, Moses Countryman Jr. (Virginia), Sammie Countryman (Debbie) and Dea. Jimmy Countryman (Debra), all of Jacksonville, FL; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.

DAWSON — Jimmy Lee "Joe Nanny" Griggs, 63, of 349 10th Ave. SW, Dawson, GA, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Jackson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Parrott, GA. The Rev. Lucious Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, Parrott, GA.

He attended the public schools of Terrell County, GA. He was self-employed as a painter contractor for a number of years.

At an early age, he joined Jackson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Parrott, GA, and served as a dedicated deacon and church treasurer.

Deacon Griggs was preceded in death by his parents, Reaver Griggs and Carrie Lou Johnson Griggs; two brothers and two sisters, Arthur Griggs, Walter Griggs, Addie Griggs and Mattie Pearl Griggs. "Joe Nanny" was also preceded in death by a special and devoted companion of 30 years, Sis. Irene L. Jackson.

Deacon Griggs "Joe Nanny" leaves a legacy of love to his wife, Martha Griggs of Parrott, GA; two sons, Dexter Griggs (Carolyn) and Anthony O. Jackson, both of Dawson, GA; a daughter, Dana Smith of Dawson, GA; two stepdaughters, Vicci Leslie (Alvin) of Dawson, GA, and Lawanda Jackson of Albany, GA; a brother, Wilburn Griggs of Dawson, GA; two sisters, Emma R. Grier (John) and Evelyn Johnson (Curtis) both of Parrott, GA; twelve grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

CAMILLA — Robert Lee "Uncle Bud" Hart, 87, of Newton died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with burial in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Robert Lewis will officiate.

Pallbearers include Joey Autry, Clifford Allen, Ricky Sanders, Anthony Peace, Robert Hall, Mike Akridge and Michael Lanier.

Born June 24, 1918, in Troupe County, Mr. Hart was a W.W.II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a meat cutter at Gavin's Grocery in Albany and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Irene Hart of Newton; two daughters, Sheril Lindsey of Newton and Linda Collins of Newton; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Gavins of Albany; one son, Robert Lee Hart of Florida; a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2006, at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Newton, GA 39870.

BAINBRIDGE — William King "Bill" Knight, 78, of Bainbridge passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at his residence in Bainbridge.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2006, at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge with Dr. Kenneth Cloud and the Rev. Paul Medley officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2006, in Memory Hill cemetery in Milledgeville with the Rev. Lamar Carney officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Bert Palmer, Dewayne Culverson, Billy Jordan, Dan Daniel, Cotton Custer, Bill Custer, Tommy Dollar and Wes Dozier.

Mr. Knight was born on April 3, 1928, in Milledgeville, GA, the son of William Nathaniel Knight and Anna Mae King Knight. He graduated from Georgia Military College/HSMS in Milledgeville and Georgia Tech. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was the manager of Bainbridge Coca-Cola Bottling Company from 1965-1987 and was a member of the Bainbridge Lions Club, Committee of 100, VFW Post 4904, American Legion 62, the Chamber of Commerce and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Timmons Knight; a son and daughter-in-law, William K. "Chip" Knight Jr. and Janie Knight of Tallahassee, FL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen K. and Gerald Grimes of Milledgeville, GA, and Natalee K. and Jim Dozier of Bainbridge; a brother, John T. Knight of Milledgevile; six grandchildren, Hays Maynard of Pensacola, FL, Rob Grimes of Milledgeville, Bill Knight III and Maria Knight, both of Tallahassee, FL, Mary Anna Dozier and Will Dozier, both of Bainbridge, GA.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at First Baptist Church.
