PELHAM -- Lucy Spence, 94, of Pelham, formerly of Meigs, died on May 6, 2012 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home on May 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Pickering officiating. iIntermentwill be at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Spence, Paul Spence, Jamie Spence, Jeb Tyson, Michael Tyson, Eddie Spence, Sonny Spence, and Rodney Spence. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Ms. Spence was born on April 12, 1918 in Mitchell County to the late Christopher Columbus Asberry and Bessie Pauline McKown Spence. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her nephews, Christopher Spence and Paul Spence, Jr. and her brothers: Delwood Spence, Leck Spence, Paul Harrison Spence, Sr., and Lucious Spence.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Joann Tyson of Meigs, Margie Spence of Camilla, Steve Spence of Savannah, Donna Blaney of Ocala, FL, Deana Ponder of Cairo, Libby Donovan of Thomasville, Pam Dillan of Quitman, Sonny Spence of Pavo, and Rodney Spence of Thomasville; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

DAWSON -- Ray Andrew Smith, 81, of Parrott, passed away at home on Saturday, May 5, 2012. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Webster County, with interment in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ray was born on March 13, 1931 to the late James Conyers Smith and the late Era Emma Alston Smith. He spent his work career of forty years as an Insurance agent and manager. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the P.T. Schley Masonic Lodge of Dawson and the Hasan Temple of Albany.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Mims Smith; children, Andy Smith (Sandra) of Unadilla, Carole Davis (Glenn) of Dawson, and Kenny Smith (Helen) of Marietta; seven siblings; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lee Street, Sylvester, Georgia, who departed this life on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. from the St. Paul Baptist Church in Isabella, Georgia, with the Pastor, Reverend Patrick Holsey, officiating. Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden cemetery in Sylvester, Georgia. Mr. C. L. Roddy was born on December 5, 1934 in Sylvester, Ga. to the late Mr. Randle Roddy and Mrs. Eva Mae Roddy. Preceding his death his daughter Earlene Delois Chester, two brothers, Floyd and Johnny Roddy. Mr. C. L. Roddy gave his life to Christ and became a Deacon of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Isabella, Ga. He was retired and loved working in his garden and spending time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 60 years Mrs. Ella Lee Roddy. They had eight children, Daniel(Dot), Emmit(Mary Helen), Robert(Ann), Jimmy(Shirley), Tories(Christine), Nathaniel(VO), Josie(Greg), and Judy Wilson. He also leaves two brothers, Otis and Randle(Althea) Roddy. Seven sisters; Parrie Lee, Mary Bell, Betty(Henry), Claries(Alto), Frankie(Frank), Eva Mae(Joseph), and Shirley. Two sister-in-laws Ella Mae Jones and Eloise Roddy, Three brother - in - laws Frank, Steve, Jr., and Alto. He has 28 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, God children and many friends.

Albany - Shabreka Stroble Ponder-Dariah, 45, of Albany, Georgia passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2015 following a battle with thyroid disorder and heart failure.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 1pm at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church, 801 Swift Street, with Bishop J. Nathan Paige officiating.

A true fashionista, Shabreka was born in Albany to parents, Bobby Stroble and Rubye Stroble (formerly Singleton) . Shabreka was the middle child of three with an older sister Natalie and a younger brother Bobby Jr. She graduated from Dougherty Comprehensive High School - Class of 1988. She then attended Albany State University where she majored in Business Information Systems and Education and became a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She later also received a Graduate Degree from Troy University.

Shabreka was married twice in her life. Early on she married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Ponder and their union produced a handsome son, Xavier Ponder. Shabreka later married again to Dr. Gerald Dariah and their union produced a beautiful daughter, Queen Dariah. Shabreka was a devoted Mother and she worked tirelessly to provide for her kids and ensure their needs were met and many of their wants fulfilled. She loved her kids above all else and delighted in creating a beautiful home for them filled with light and love. They travelled often and loved going out to Texas to visit her sister and spend time with her nephew, Bryson. Shabreka worked much of her life as an Educator and prided herself in assisting her students and encouraging them to believe in themselves and work hard to make achievements in their life.

Shabreka fell ill last year and had been battling to recover. Throughout her illness, she tried to remain strong and positive and she had fond memories of the students that she met along the way. She has many friends and family members who were supportive during her illness. Even in her illness, those that visited Shabreka recall that she loved to talk and still managed to smile and even dance occasionally. Shabreka was a caring person and she accepted all people, no matter their background and walk of life. She was smart and had a great sense of humor. She was loved by many and she will be missed.

Albany - Helen Anne Martinez of Albany died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Hospital. Helen was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Albany. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Earl Jones, III. She is survived by her husband, John Saturino Martinez, daughter, Cyndi Jones of Birmingham, and Grandsons, Cameron Layne Champion of Atlanta and Thomas Casey Jones of Sasser. Also surviving is her sister, Jo Paul of Leesburg, her niece, Tami Paul Fryer of Albany, her nephew, Gene Paul of Dawson, as well as grand niece, Eden Paul and grand nephew, Joey Hunter, both of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. She will be laid to rest at Andersonville National cemetery on Friday, September 4, 2015. Arrangements are conducted by Kimbrell Stern Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery in Poulan, Georgia. Ms. Veronica Peterson better known as “Lisa” was born on March 18, 1972 in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Nathaniel Peterson Sr. and Bertha Peterson Fowler. She was educated in the Worth County Public School System where she graduated with the “Class of 1990.” In 2013, she attended Moultrie Technical College where she graduated with her Business Administration. Lisa gave her life to Christ at an early age where she joined New Willow Grove Baptist Church of Poulan, Georgia under the leadership of the late Reverend Eddie B. Munford Sr. Lisa was always a passionate individual who loved to work. Lisa was employed with Shaw Industries for over 15 years. She later obtained employment with Miller Coors Company until her health declined. Precious memories will always linger in the hearts and minds of her living and devoted family. She leaves to cherish her memories five sons: Jatavious, Montavious, Nathaniel Jr., Kentarious, and Navaskie. A loving and devoted mother Mrs. Bertha (Esker) Peterson Fowler of Poulan, Georgia; one sister Velma Peterson of Sylvester, Georgia; four brothers Nathaniel (Katherine) Peterson of Turner County, Kevin Peterson, Michael (Megan) Fowler of Lee County, and Jeremiah Fowler; two step-sisters: Courtney Fowler and Kijuangila Johnson; two step-brothers Corey Fowler and Tim (Makasha) Fowler of Sylvester, Georgia; two grandchildren: Martavious Jr. (Tay-J) and Gashod; twenty-two nieces and nephews; four uncles: Lawrence (Annie) Boyd, Abraham Billingsley, David Billingsley, and Hugh Peterson; two aunts: Essie Billingsley and Mary Peterson. A special loving and devoted finance’ Mr. Donald Rushing Jr. and a very special nephew Mr. Gavosky Peterson and a host of other relatives and friends who dearly loved her.

Louisville - Cheryl Denise Bennett Cooper, “Cherry”, as she was affectionately known, was one of six children born to the late Alma Brunette Hunt and Charlie Sisroe on January 17, 1958 in Camilla, Georgia. Upon the death of her mother, she was reared as one of their own by Eunice J. McQueen and the late Robert C. McQueen. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Jacklyn and Victoria Hunt. Visitation will be Thursday from % pm to 8:00 pm at A.D. Porter & Sons in Louisville, KY and the funeral services will be Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 am at Canaan Christian Church in Louisville, KY.

Cheryl was educated in the Dougherty County School System, graduating in 1975 from Dougherty High School. She attended Albany State University where she was a member of Zeta Psi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. She also attended Elizabethtown Community and Technical College where she received a diploma in Electrical Engineering. She was an associate member of Buffalo Soldiers MC Louisville, KY Chapter. She confessed her faith in Christ and joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Choir and Usher Board. Upon relocating to Louisville, KY she moved her membership to Canaan Christian Church. She was employed by Ford Motor Company.

God called his “Songbird” home on August 31, 2015. There is no more pain, suffering, or worrying and her soul is at peace. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband Dereck Cooper, a devoted mother-in-law, Augusta Cooper, six beautiful children Carlos (Cheri) Bennett of Wiesbaden, Germany, Keith (Charmaine) Dunnaway of Jacksonville, FL, Bernadette Bryant of Louisville, KY, Samantha Cooper of New Orleans, LA, Marie (Darrin) Bickham of Louisville, KY, and Danita (Donald) Deadwyler of Norfolk, Virginia. Grandchildren: Alexis, Sarah and Cooper Bennett of Germany, Imani, Julian, Jada and Tristan Bryant of Louisville, KY, Jordun, Alex of Illinois and Jaylen Dunnaway of Jacksonville, FL, Deneil, DaMari, Dekhi, Dezuri, and Deos Bickham. Mr. Alday was born in Donalsonville, GA on March 7, 1949 to Paul Alday and Louise Elizabeth Ledford Alday. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School and retired from Georgia Pacific where he worked for many years as a paper maker. Mr. Alday was a member of the United Paper Workers International Union, a former PeeWee football coach in Seminole County, and a former President of the band boosters in Miller County. He attended Donalsonville Church of God and loved being with children and helping to care for them.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Shirley Smith Alday of Donalsonville, GA; three sons, Rev. Slade Alday(Danielle), Mitch Alday(Heather Lang), and Mikey Alday(Natalie) all of Bainbridge, GA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Lillian Smith of Donalsonville, GA; a brother, Andy Alday(Loretta) of Donalsonville, GA; a brother-in-law, Ricky Smith(Karen) of Iron City, GA; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Alday of Donalsonville, GA. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Isabella Hope Alday and Josephine Michelle Alday; two godchildren, Skyler Odom and Andlee Odom; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Alday was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louise Alday and two brothers, Johnny Stione Alday and Bobby Alday.
