Born on March 2, 1920 to the late William Lafayette and Laura Dale Poitevint Huey, she was married to the late Winston C. Willis, Sr. She was the retired manager for the Georgia Theatre Company in 2008 and a member of the First Baptist Church of Pelham.
Mrs. Willis is survived by her son, Winston C. Willis, Jr. of Pelham, Georgia, daughters Lydia Griffeth and husband Sonny of Gainesville, Florida, Dale Williams and husband Jerry of Camilla, Georgia, Cathy Arrington and husband Larry of Funston, Georgia, grandchildren Lara Hagle and husband Dave of Gainesville, Florida, Maranda Ackocs and husband Tony of Ashburn, Virginia, Robyn Gunter and husband Donald of Anderson, South Carolina, Lauryn Williams of Camilla, Georgia, Clint Littleton of Moultrie, Georgia, Pat Littleton and wife Leann of Moultrie, Georgia, great-grandchildren Sierra Hagle, Cody Hagle, Ethan Ackocs, Faith Gunter, Cole Littleton, Payden Littleton, Briar Littleton, and sister Valerie H. Powell of Pelham, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband Winston C. Willis, Sr., granddaughter Libby Williams, and her parents William LaFayette and Laura Dale Poitevint Huey.
There will be no formal visitation held, however, the family will be receiving friends at 242 Tennyson Street in Pelham. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Pelham City Cemetery. Ronnie Morrell, Cheryl Powell and Terry Powell will officiate the services.

Nancy Lynn Davis

Born in Durham, North Carolina on August 6, 1949
Passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Norcross, Georgia

Nancy Lynn Davis, 61, of 100 Chase Common Drive, Norcross, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at her residence. Born on August 6, 1949 to the late Lynn Ivey and Althea Cockman Davis, she was a bookkeeper. She is survived by a sister, Carol D. Paulk and husband Bill of Sylvester, Georgia and two nephews Dustin Paulk of St. Simons, Georgia and Ryan Paulk of Sylvester, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents. There will be no visitation held. Funeral services will be held graveside on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bruce Roberts will officiate the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Iris Ministries, Box 493995, Redding, California 96049-3995.

Shamira Crosby Jones, 80, of Hinsonton, Georgia passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Born on August 11, 1930 in Mitchell County, Georgia to the late Wilburn and Mattie Crosby, she was married to the late Grayson H. Jones. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Hinsonton Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Tesa Morris and husband Dr. Bill Morris of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, son Mike Jones and wife Lynne of Albany, Georgia, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and sister Azaline Joiner of Whigham, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grayson H. Jones, son Larry Jones and parents Wilburn and Mattie Crosby. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home in Pelham, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Dr. Bobby Johns will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Grayson Jones, David Carroll, James Culpepper, Scott Carroll, Jim Autry, Charles Davis, Steve Morrell, and Alex Morrell. iIntermentwill follow in Springhill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Melvin Louis Beavers, Sr.

Passed Away on March 26, 2011 in Fredericksburg, VA

Mr. Melvin Louis Beavers, Sr., 71, passed away at the Spotsylvania Medical Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia on Saturday, March 26, 2011. Born in Washington D.C. on April 26, 1939 to the late Mabel Beavers, Mr. Beavers was an air conditioner repairman/installer. On May 28, 1960 Mr. Beavers was married to Lottie Nell Godwin Beavers.

Funeral services for Mr. Beavers will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. graveside at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Pelham, GA. The Rev. Doug Hall will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. For those wishing to make contributions/donations, feel free to do so to the St. Jude Research Hospital- 105 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN.

Survivors include Mr. Beavers' wife, Lottie Nell Godwin Beavers of Lake Anna, VA; a daughter, Charlotte Beavers Warner, and husband, Bill, of Gainsville, VA; a son, Melvin Beavers Jr and wife, Sandy, of Centreville, VA; a sister, Jo Ann Stone of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother-in-laws, Bo Godwin and wife, Diane, of Pelham, Roger Godwin, and wife, Debra, of Atlanta, GA, and Robert Pope of Arlington, VA and a sister-in-law, PeeWee Godwin of Pelham. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Beavers and his brothers, Ed Beavers and Lester Beavers.

Mary Frances Bentley Shiver

Passed Away on April 4, 2011 in Tallahassee, Florida

Mary Frances Bentley Shiver passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, FL. She was 80 years old. Born in Pelham on August 12, 1930 to the late Roy C. Bentley Sr. and Ester Creech Bentley, Ms. Shiver was a retired bookkeeper. She was the wife of the late Everett "Shine" L. Shiver and was a member of Celebration Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. Ms. Shiver was active throughout the years in the Business Women's Civic Club, Pelham Fine Arts Club, Red Cross as a volunteer, Mitchell County REA and the Legion Home Auxiliary.

Memorial services for Ms. Shiver will be held at Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Doug Bedgood will officiate. A visitation will be held before the service from 1:30-2:00 p.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Big Bend Hospice (1723-1 Mahan Center Blvd. Tallahassee, FL 32308) or to the hospice of your choice.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Shiver Ellrich of Tallahassee, FL, granddaughters, Christen and Lauren Ellrich, a sister-in-law, Bessie Kate Bentley of Pelham, GA, nieces, Kathy B. Huey and Patsy B. Maxwell, a cherished great nephew, Chance D. Huey, her Bentley and Creech cousins and families, and a host of treasured friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett "Shine" L. Shiver, her parents, Roy C. Bentley, Sr. and Ester Creech Bentley, brothers, Roy C. Bentley Jr, Troy Bentley and Fred Bentley, and a sister, Doris Elizabeth Bentley, who died in infancy.

Mr. James Aldon Whitehead, 77, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born in Eufaula, Alabama on August 28, 1933, Mr. Whitehead was a Navy veteran. He was born to the late Shelby Whitehead and Lena Brown Whitehead. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Daughtry Whitehead.

Funeral services for Mr. Whitehead will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Cain officiating. iIntermentwill be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be John Maloy, Jonathan Maloy, Matt Maloy, Matthew Hunt, Joshua Harper, and Don White.

Survivors include his children, Danny Whitehead, and wife Teresa, of Doerun, GA, Debra Lara of Thomasville, Dale Hysell Evans of Pelham, GA, Deena Jones and husband, Jeff, of Dixie, GA, Delena Miller and husband, Bill, of Tallahassee, FL; honorary daughter, Monika Maloy of Pelham; grandchildren, Nicholas Whitehead of Doerun, GA, Tamara Lara of Thomasville, GA, , Tasha Hunt, and husband Mathew, of Thomasville, GA, Tanesha Harper, and husband Joshua, of Thomasville, GA, Hayden Jones of Thomasville, Kaitlyn Jones of Dixie, Raven Cotton of Pensacola, FL, Ethan Hysell of Statesboro, GA, Debra Colvin of Tallahassee, FL, Shane Whitehead; a special friend, Peggy Hall, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby Whitehead and Lena Brown Whitehead; a wife, Mildred Whitehead; a son, James Allen Whitehead and a sister, Eleanor Alday.

Christine Powell Gurley

Ms. Christine Powell Gurley, of Pelham, passed away on April 11, 2011 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home in Pelham. She was 84. A retired bookkeeper, Ms. Gurley was the wife of the late Louie E. Gurley, Sr. Born in Pelham, Georgia on October 17, 1926, Ms. Gurley was the daughter of the late James M. and Josephine Davis Powell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pelham and also a member of the American Legion Post #144 and the William T. Flynt Order of the Easter Star- Chapter 303.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Survivors include Ms. Gurley's son, Louie E. Gurley, Jr. and wife, Mary Kate, of Cordele, GA; a daughter, Leah G. Humphries and husband, Steve, of Pelham, GA; grandchildren, Trae Gurley, and wife, Jessica, of Savannah, GA, Christie Dossey and husband, Beau, of Guyton, GA, Rachel Burton and husband, Jeff, of Dawsonville, GA, B.J. Wright and wife, Heather, of Camilla, GA, Chad Humphries, Kimberly Howell, Jared Humphries and wife, Kimberly; great-grandchildren, Skylar Gurley, Isabella Dossey, Will Wright, Blake Humphries, Ashton Humphries; sisters, Edna Powell and Sharon Powell; special friend and caregiver, Christine Wallace and a special canine friend, Roc Humphries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie E. Gurley, Sr., sister, LouAlice Paige, and parents, James M. and Josephine Davis Powell.

Fred R. Brogren, Sr.

Born in Rockford, Illinois on June 19, 1935
Departed on April 25, 2011 at his residence in Pelham, Georgia

Mr. Fred R. Brogren, Sr. passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011 at his residence in Pelham, Georgia. He was 75 years old. Born in Rockford, Illinois to the late Fritz and Ellen Coole Brogren, Mr. Brogren was a retired gunnery sergeant for the United States Marine Corp. He married Edna Grace Hayes on October 21, 1961. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and the Pelham Masonic Lodge #312.

Funeral services for Mr. Brogren will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church in Pelham. Rev. Doug Hall will officiate. Pallbearers will be Les Pollock, Jake Sanders, Cory Barwick, Frank Stewart, Buddy Brinkley, and Ricky Pollock. Visitation will be held immediately preceding the funeral on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. iIntermentwill be held in the church cemetery with full military rites.

Survivors include Mr. Brogren's wife, Edna Grace Hayes Brogren of Pelham; sons, Fred Robert Brogren, Jr. and wife, Fran, of Pelham, Craig M. Brogren and wife, Gena, of Pavo; a daughter, Donna Brogren Sealy of Augusta, GA; grandsons, Charles Sealy and Michael Sealy, both of Augusta, GA, and Hunter Hayes Brogren of Pavo, GA; granddaughters, Kayla Brogren and Lacey Brogren of Pelham, GA and Lois Grace Brogren of Pavo, GA, along with several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brogren was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Ellen Coole Brogren, brothers, Carl Edward Brogren and Edwin Nels Brogren, and a sister, Alice Mathilda Brogren.

Athalone Mills Darley

Mrs. Athalone Mills Darley, 92, of Dawson, Georgia (formerly of Pelham, Georgia) passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Dawson Manor Nursing Home in Dawson, Georgia. Born on May 8, 1918 to the late James Franklin and Mittie Harrell Mills, she was married to the late William Crawford Darley, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawson, as well as a former member of the First Baptist Church of Pelham for more than 65 years. She is survived by her son Ashley Darley and wife Louise of Dawson, Georgia, daughter-in-law Glenda Darley of Pine Mountain, Georgia, grandsons Jeff Darley and wife Maria of Martinez, Georgia, Andy Darley and wife Darby of Greenville, South Carolina, David Darley and wife Patty of Hokes Bluff, Alabama, granddaughter Cindy Darley of Thomasville, Georgia, three great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William Crawford Darley, Sr., sons William "Bill" Darley, Jr., and Jackson Mills Darley, parents James Franklin and Mittie Harrell Mills, eight sisters and four brothers. There will be no formal visitation. Funeral services will be conducted graveside on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Horace Keen and Dr. Pete Sharber will officiate the services. iIntermentwill take place at Pelham City Cemetery. Robert L. Busbee, Sr.

Passed Away on May 5, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia

Robert L. Busbee, Sr., 76, of Stone Mountain, GA died on May 5, 2011 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. Graveside services will be held at Pelham City cemetery on May 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Steven Wright officiating. Pallbearers will be Allen Carroll, Donald Carroll, Paul Wright, Randy Mitchell, Matt Davis, and Chris Patterson.

Mr. Busbee was born on December 23, 1934 in Atlanta to the late Ira and Naomi Busbee. He was a retired plastics manufacturer, a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hobbs.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam Busbee of Stone Mountain; his sons, Robbie Busbee and wife, Patty, of Loganville, Ricky Busbee and wife, Tamie, of Peachtree City, and Roger Busbee of Stone Mountain; his granddaughters, Robin and Rachel Busbee of Loganville; his brother, Ira Busbee and wife, Martha, of Auburn; his sister, Marlene Taubert and husband, Karl, of Murryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Pryor Connell, Sr.

Mr. William Pryor Connell, Sr., 90, of 375 Palmer Street, Pelham, Georgia passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at his residence. Born on March 29, 1921 in Grady County, Georgia to the late William Norman and Pearl Coker Connell, he was married to the former Ruth Clark.

Mr. Connell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pelham, as well as a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Pelham Rotary Club, the Pelham Masonic Lodge #312, and the Smith-Spence American Legion Post #144. He was a retired manager and director of Hand Trading Company.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home in Pelham, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Rev. Carl Stokes will officiate the services, assisted by Ronnie Morrell. Pallbearers will be Roland Clark, David Clark, Henry Clark, Jacob Clark, Lee Palmer, H. B. Moore, Les Pollock and Larry Adams. iIntermentwill follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Mr. Connell is survived by his wife of 69 years Ruth Clark Connell of Pelham, Georgia, sons William Connell, Jr. of McRae, Georgia, Winston Connell of Pelham, Georgia, daughter Joyce Connell Kemp of Dublin, Georgia, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Norman and Pearl Coker Connell.

Connie Ruth Whitehead Singletary

Born in Eufaula, Alabama on October 30, 1949
Departed on May 8, 2011 in Albany, Georgia

Connie Ruth Whitehead Singletary, 61, of 17168 Highland Avenue, Arlington, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. Born on October 30, 1949 in Eufaula, Alabama to the late Foy and Lillian Roberts Whitehead, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

No formal visitation will be held. Memorial services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home in Pelham, Georgia. Rev. David Pickering will officiate the services.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Foy and Lillian Roberts Whitehead, brother Jimmy Whitehead and sister Vicky Nobles.

Born on February 20, 1922 in Meigs, Georgia to the late William and Rebecca Ann Driggers Wilson, she was married to the late Loys Pearl Bass. She was a member of the Meigs Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughters Linda S. Gore of Sylvester, Georgia, Deloris E. Curles and husband W. P. of Sylvester, Georgia, Dorothy A. Libby and husband Ray of Putney, Georgia, Faye Seal of Meigs, Georgia, Debra Godwin and husband Eddie of Pelham, Georgia, daughter-in-law Brenda Bass of Newville, Alabama, sixteen grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Loys P. Bass, parents William and Rebecca Ann Driggers, daughter Sandra B. Taylor and son Thomas Kenneth Bass, and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Jordan Bass. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Jerry Lancaster and Rev. Nathan Fowler will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Timothy Sealy, Steve Norton, Michael Edenfield, Mike Dalton, Jason Godwin and Bill Butler. iIntermentwill take place in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
