John B. Hayes

John B. Hayes, age 79, of Alma died early Saturday morning, September 25, 2004 in Cedars Medical Center in Miami. after an extended illness.
He was a native of Thomas, County and a son of the late John Nesbitt Hayes and Clara Eldridge. John was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Hayes, a brother, Jimmy Hayes and a sister, Peggy Maxwell.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Hayes of Phoenix, AZ., Donnie Hayes and wife Laura of Williston, FL. and Jimmy Hayes and wife Tammy of St. George; three daughters, Clara Ring and husband Larry of Alma; Peggy Rivera and husband Mike of Miami and Patsy BuShea and husband Gary of Alma; two sisters, Doris Singhal and Beth Allen both of Quitman. Also twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Carver officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Billy Ring, Shelby Armstrong, Gary BuShea, William Hayes, Adam Hayes and John Hayes. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Angie Uldine Benton

Angie Uldine Benton, age 72, of St. Simons Island, Georgia passed away late Saturday evening, September 25, 2004, in the Southeast Georgia Regional Hospital in Brunswick after an extended illness.
She was a native of Pierce County, but had lived in Bacon County most of her life. Uldine was the daughter of the late Keller W. Lee and Nevada Sweat Lee. She was preceded in death by a brother, Linwood Lee. She was also a member of Alma First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Wanzette (H.W.) Benton of St. Simons Island; one son, Bruce Benton and wife Jana Marie of Alma; one brother, Rev. Lowell C. Lee and wife Pasty of Alma; a sister-in-law, Jennie Lee of Alma; two grandchildren, Misty Benton Garcia and husband Adam of Brunswick and Jessica Benton of Alma and one great grandson, Ethan Boatright of Alma.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Lowell Lee and Rev. Mark Barth officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Zach Taylor, Steve Collins, Wally Sapp, Mike Lee, Peter Marshall Lee, Donnie Hughes, Steve Camp and Hugh Sears. All those in attendance were be considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Frank Doniva Teston

Frank Doniva Teston, age 78, of Mershon passed away suddenly Friday night, September 24, 2004.
He was a native of Pierce County and a son of the late George Teston and Julia Carter Teston. Doniva was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Wanda Teston, an infant son, George Teston, a daughter, Debra Joyce Teston, brother, Johnny Peacock and a sister, Jewell Aspinwall.
Survivors include a son, Pete Teston of Mershon; three daughters, Marilyn Mims and husband Rusty of Nicholls, Judy Thomas and husband Justin of Alma and Donna Lazo of Cordele. Also nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Riley Gill officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Carters Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeremy Thomas, Danny and Pete Spell, Ricky Lazo, Thomas Richey and Rusty Mims. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bobbie Jean Carter

Bobbie Jean Carter, age 73, of Alma passed away early Friday morning, September 24, 2004 at her residence after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County and a daughter of the late Wesley Talmadge Carter and Annie Lee Hyers Carter and preceded in death a brother, Eugene T. (Junior) Carter.
Bobbie was retired after many years with Satilla R. E. M. C. She was a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Darthalyn C. Hughes and husband Loran, Janice Carter all of Alma and Jacquelyn C. Waters of Martinez; one sister-in-law, Faye Carter of Alma. Also several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and great nephews survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hughes, Rev. Joseph Lee, Rev. Byran Gill and Rev. Edmund Thrift officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeffery Carter, Keith Waters, Terry Waters, Brian Dixon, Rev. Steve Hughes, Bill Jordan, Wesley Carter and Thomas L. Carter, III. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

E.Z. Melton

E.Z. Melton, age 79 of Blackshear, passed away Thursday night, September 16, 2004, at his residence after an extended illness.
A native of Bacon County but he had lived in Blackshear for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Timothy Melton and Mary Ellen Thomas Melton and a son, E.Z. “Eddie” Melton, Jr. He was retired from Spatola Shoe Factory in Blackshear where he had 35 years of service. He was a longtime active member of Blackshear Church of God and the Men’s Bible Class
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred S. Melton of Blackshear; five sons, James Melton (wife, Jan) of Waycross, Dennis Melton, Sr. (wife, Oveida) of Blackshear, Billy Ray Melton (wife, Sue) of Blackshear, Jerry Melton of Waycross and Thomas Melton (wife, Donna) of Blackshear; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 19 from the Blackshear Church of God. iIntermentfollowed in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men’s Bible Class.
Smith Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of the arrangements.

Michael David Mullis

Michael David “Mike” Mullis, age 34, passed away suddenly Sunday morning, June 27, 2004 at his residence in Millwood.
He was a native of Ocala, Florida but had lived most of his life in Millwood. Mike was a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Putney Medical Center Hospital in Albany.
Mike graduated from Ware County High School in 1987. He was also a member of Millwood Baptist Church in Millwood. He. served in the United States Army.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leo Mullis of Waycross and grandparents, Woodrow and Hazel Cannon Vickers of Pearson.
He is survived by a son, David Tyler Mullis of Tifton; parents, Lamar and Kay Vickers Mullis of Millwood; one brother, Todd Mullis (wife, Danae Ennis) of Douglas; three nephews, Chandler, Spencer and Parker Mullis and grandmother, Thelma Mullis Sirmans of Waycross. Survivors also include several uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services were held on July 1 at Millwood Baptist Church with Rev. J.D. Herndon officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Millwood Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Todd Mullis, Ashley Vickers, Derek Vickers, Gene Davis, Randall Bennett and Robert Morgan. Military rites were conducted by members of the United States Army of Fort Stewart.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald Ivey, Sr.

Gerald Ivey, Sr., age 65, of Alma passed away Thursday night, September 9, 2004 at Chandler Hospital in Savannah after a lengthy illness.
He was a native of Bacon County. Gerald was a son of the late Melvin Lamar Ivey and Winnie Lee Napier Ivey.
Mr. Ivey was a retired electrician. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Jesup and a member of Westside Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Britt Ivey of Alma; one son, Burt Ivey and wife Martha of Alma; two daughters, Susan Harris and husband Mike of Nicholson, GA and Janet Lynn Ivey of New Orleans, LA, two sisters, Jane Ivey and Jeanette Arnold, both of Alma and four brothers, Lamar Ivey, Jr. and Jack Ivey, both of Jesup, Johnny and Dewayne Ivey, both of Alma. Four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, September 12 at Westside Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Jr. Hayes and Rev. John Thomas officiating. iIntermentwill followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Donnie Jack Taylor, Benny Douglas, Billy Taylor, Chris Anderson, Joey Mullis and John Medders. Honorary escorts were Dr. Perry Streat, Dale Morris, Monroe Lee, Brad Mobley, Bill Spivey and all others in attendance.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jackie Mims

Jackie Mims, age 51, of Alma passed away late Sunday night, September 12, 2004 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Jeff Davis County but had lived in Bacon County since 1973. Jackie was the daughter of the late Maxine Bullard Vaughn. She was employed by Fuel South and was previously employed with the Bacon County Primary School as a paraprofessional.
Survivors include her father, Nathaniel (Buck) Vaughn of Hazlehurst; husband, Jerry E. Mims of Alma, one daughter, Tina Marie Mims of Waycross; and one brother, Alan Vaughn of Brunswick. Also survived by special friends, Greg, Jenny and David Bullard and a host of friends. One sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Waylon and Jackie Cribb of Alma.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. R. B. Gaskins and Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Mims Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Pat Tanner, George Yearty, Marvin (Bubba) Simmons, Brad Deen, Jeff Deen and Jack Tanner. Special escorts were Dr. Benjamin Piperno and Walter Peacock. All those in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Jerry T. McDonald

Jerry T. McDonald, age 54, of Milton, Florida passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004.
He was a native of Bacon County and had been living in Milton the past three years. He was an airplane mechanic with Southern Company Services, Incorporated and a member of River View Baptist Church in Trussville, Alabama.
Survivors include his parents, Thurman and Verlene Rigdon McDonald of Alma; his wife, Peggy Croft McDonald of Milton, Florida; two daughters; Kimberly Warner and husband Eric of Vestavia Hills, Alabama and Jennifer Essick and husband Waid of Woodstock, Georgia; one brother, Danny McDonald and wife Dawn of Hope Mills, North Carolina; one sister, LaGay Thomas and husband Dewayne of Alma and three grandchildren, Kelly and Taylor King of Woodstock, Georgia and Matthew Defnall of Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, September 11 at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Ray officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to the Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church cemetery Fund or to Douglas Chapel Baptist Church.
Active pallbearers were George Yearty, Charles McCrea, Donnie Rigdon, Ben Lott, Steve Rigdon, George Lawton Johnson and Steve Croft. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
