Elsie McLean, age 65, of Alma; died, Sunday night, October 3, 2004 at her residence after extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County and a daughter of the late Roscoe Rigdon and Teresa Smith Rigdon. Elsie was a school teacher at Bacon County for thirty five years, served as School
Superintendent, a member of the Georgia Association of Educators and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Melissa Parker and husband Greg, Mary Brozoway, all of Alma and Mona McLean of New Orleans; one sister, Johnnie Kight and husband Henry of Alma; three grandchildren, Meagan Crosby and husband Clint, Kelli and Dusty Cothern and Matthew Parker, all of Alma and two nieces, Jamie Johnson and Cindy Lee and family .
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Pet Hayes, Rev. Roger Taylor and Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were David Johnson, William Lee, Wallace Boatright, Henry Kight, R.T. Johnson and Richard Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers were Health Department Home Care, School System Employee’s present and retired, Carla Taylor, Laurie Beverly, Dr. Singh and Dr. Baranwal and staffs.

Caleb Cody Pilz
Caleb Cody Pilz, infant son of Ryan and Mandi Cody Pilz of Registar, Georgia, passed away September 21, 2004 at Chandler Hospital in Savannah.
Caleb was preceded in death by his grandfather, Steve Cody, great-grandparents, Dave, Herb and Betty Cody and Bud and Nora Stewart.
Caleb was survived by his parents, Ryan and Mandi Cody Pilz of Registar; his grandmother, Mary Ann Varnedore; his Uncle Dillion Cody and Mandy Moore of Alma; great-grandparents, Billy and Willene Varnedore and Joy Pilz of Statesboro and Shafter and Essie Mae Varnedore, Vernell Nesmith of Statesboro. His paternal aunt and uncle, Chris and Marie Pilz of Effingham County; great uncle and aunt, Bud and Wanda Deen of Alma; Ricky Cody of Hilton Head; Kim and Kim Cody Atlanta; Brian, Sandy and Scott Deen of Westgreen and Michael Deen of Alma.
Graveside services were held on Friday, September 24 at Bulloch Memorial Gardens in Statesboro.
Jefferson Warren (J.W.) Carter
Jefferson Warren (J.W.) Carter, age 67, of Alma passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2004 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon, son of the late Oren (Son) Lee Carter and Frances Taylor Carter and was preceded in death by two sisters, Alif and Lurene Hyers.
J.W. served in the U. S Army and was a member of Southside Church of God.
Survivors include his wife of thirty eight years, Mary Ann Pardee Carter of Alma; one son, Phillip and wife Sue, of Nicholls; two brothers, Roy Carter and wife Diane, Burtis Carter and wife Eunice, all of Alma; one sister, Martha Ann Carter of Alma and two grandchildren, Mark Dewayne Carter and Kenny Lee Carter, both of Nicholls. Also several nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Southside Church of God with Rev. Mark Carver and Rev. Floyd Musgrove officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were James Smart, Quitman Dyal, B.J. Harrelson, Joel Durden, Ronnie Spivey and Dexter (Boy) Kirkland. All southside members and ministers in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Milton Douglas
Milton Douglas, age 87, of Alma, passed away early Saturday morning, October 2, 2004 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County and a son of the late Jack Douglas and Gordie Stewart Douglas. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Douglas; five brothers, Ira, Felton, Herman, Burnis and Clarence Douglas; two sisters, Mildred Moats and Agnes Williamson. Milton was a retired farmer and a member of Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Velera Rigdon Douglas of Alma; one son, Tommie Douglas and wife Kathy of Macon and three daughters, Jan Thomas and husband Jesse, Joan McCarty and husband David and Judy Douglas all of Alma. Also eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Brown, Rev. Wayne Miracle and Rev. Ernest McCarty officiating. The interment followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Donnie and Steve Rigdon, George Lawton Johnson, Vann Douglas, Billy Shores, Wally Williamson and Danny McDonald. Honorary escorts were Bacon County and Altamaha Home Health Care, Dr. Clay Carter and Staff, Bacon County Hospital Staff and the Adult Sunday School Class.

Willie Mae Lee
Willie Mae Lee, age 80, of Alma passed away early Wednesday morning, September 29, 2004 at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Bacon County and a daughter of the late Leander William Douglas and Bossie Linder Douglas. Willie is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Harvey Lee, Sr. a son, Albert Lee, Jr., two brothers, William Darrell Douglas and Wendell Douglas and two sisters, Mildred Abercrombie and Emma Lou Byrd.
Willie was a nurse at the Bacon Co. Hospital and Twin Oaks for many years. She was a member of Alma Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Herman Lee and Thurman Lee, both Jacksonville, N.C.; four daughters, Satira Rigdon and Rebecca Varnadore both of Alma; Susan Cummins of Texas and Helen Malvin of Missouri and one brother, James (P.G.) Farell Douglas of Lebanon. A special niece, Faynell Humphreys of Texas. Also sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Tenth Street Church of God with Rev. Hulet Smith and Rev. Steve Pittman officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

James (Tater) Q. Altman
James (Tater) Q. Altman, age 78, of Alma passed away early Sunday morning, December 5, 2004 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Curtis W. Altman Sr. and Hulda Carter Altman and was preceded in death by a brother, Titus Altman and two sisters, Louise Riggins and Doris Davis.
Survivors include two sons, James H. Altman of Waycross and Leslie C. Altman of Augusta; one step-son, Ernie Amos of Abbeville, AL; two daughters, Ann Leggett of Alma and Beth Altman of Abbeville, AL; one step-daughter, Tammy Amos of Abbeville, AL; three brothers, Curtis Altman, Jr., and Ernest Altman, both of Alma and Quitman Altman of Brunswick and one sister, Sally Smith of Fernandina Beach, FL. Heather Altman granddaughter and five other grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at New Vision Church. Rev. Pet Hayes and Rev. Allen Swain officiated. iIntermentfollowed in New Vision Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Randy and Stevie Altman, Jose Garcia, Ronnie and Ricky Altman and Gary Altman. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Altman and all others in attendance.

Jessie Mae Carter
Jessie Mae Carter, age 90, of Alma passed away early Monday morning, December 6, 2004 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Pierce County but, had lived most of her life in Bacon County. Jessie was the daughter of the late Peyton L. Wade and Mamie Sweat Wade. She was the wife of the late Ernest Grady Carter and was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin, Clayton and J. D. Wade and a sister, Luna White. Jessie was also a member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Curtis Carter and wife Liz of Alma; two brothers, A.C. Wade and Harold Wade, both of Alma; two sisters, Leola Hiers and Arlene Good, both of Alma and three grandchildren, James C. Carter, Jr., Travis Scott Carter and Terri Louise Dorman, all of Jacksonville, FL. Also six great- grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Yarborough officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mozell Holland Taylor Hutcheson
Mozell Holland Taylor Hutchenson, age 88, of Alma; passed away Saturday evening, December 4, 2004 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Steven Richard Holland and Nora Jean Johnson Holland, wife of the late Emory Taylor and Oliver Washington Hutchenson and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rittie Virginia Taylor; two sisters, Floy Deen and Hazel Peacock and two brothers, A.B. Holland and Joel Holland. Mozell was a member of the Tenth Street Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Don Edward Taylor and wife Louise of Savannah and William Walter Taylor and wife Eleanor of Brookings, S. D.; three daughters, Billie Helen Wilson and husband Ronald of Lake City, Florida, Wanda Faye Peacock and husband Kenneth and Linda Diane Taylor and husband Steve, all of Alma and one brother, Howard Holland of Alma. Also, ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Tenth Street Church of God. The Rev. Steve Pittman and Rev. Vic Peacock officiated. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jerry, Jack, Larry and Roger Holland, Freddie and Wayne Peacock, Mac Griffin and David Taylor. Honorary escort was The Dorcus Barber Sunday School Class.

Vivian Walker Harris
Vivian Walker Harris, age 80 of Thomaston, Georgia passed away November 25, 2004 at Riverside Nursing Center in Thomaston.
She was daughter of the late George Weyland Walker and the late Frances Lotia Gilbert Walker.
Mrs. Harris was a native of Upson County and a former resident of Atlanta and DeKalb County. She was a 1941 graduate of R.E. Lee Institute. Mrs. Walker was a retired financial officer from the Center for Disease Control. She was also a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was survived by a son, Gary William Harris of Woodstock; a sister, Juanita Walker Junkins of Griffen; brothers, W. Ray Walker of Alma and G. Ernest Walker of Thomaston and a grandson, Gary William Harris, II of Atlanta.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 28 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Drew Stephens officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Shiloh Church Cemetery.

Audrey M. Janosik
Audrey M. Janosik, age 80, of 12th Street Alma, passed away Wednesday, November 17 at her daughter’s residence on St. Simmons Island.
She was a native of Coffee County but had lived most of her life in Alma. The past two years she had been living with her daughter on St. Simmons.
Audrey was daughter of the late Willie Grey Meeks and Clara Seymour Meeks and was wife of the late Thomas (Tommy) Janosik. She had worked at the Brunswick Ship Yard during WW II and was a member of the Alma First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Susie McDaniel of Brunswick and Leesa Jo Janosik of St. Simmons; one brother, William (Sonny) Meeks and wife Clara of Albany; one sister; Mary Jo Holton of Alma; one grandchild, Shanan McDaniel of Brunswick; a niece, Rosemary Holton of St. Simmons and a nephew, Chris Holton of Alma.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Pet Hayes officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Mikel A. Jones
Mikel A. Jones, age 49, of Mt. Pleasant and Brunswick, formerly of Alma was fatally wounded in a hunting accident Friday afternoon, November 12, 2004.
He was preceded in death by his father M. G. Jones. Mike had been employed by Georgia Pacific for 25 years. He was a member of Yellow Bluff Adventure Society, Big Buck Hunting Club. He was a member of Aiken Memorial Methodist Church. Mike was an avid hunter and outdoor enthusiast.
Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathy A. Jones; two daughters, Cheri Jones Henderson and Michelle Jones, of Mt. Pleasant; a son-in-law, Linton Henderson, of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Gabriel Jones, Chandler Henderson, Gunnar Henderson, Carley Henderson and Jordan Henderson, all of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers Tom (Kathy) Jones of Brunswick; Dick (Judy) Jones and Harry (Harriett) Jones, all of St. Simons Island; a sister, Jeri (Bill) Barker of Brunswick and his mother Valdese Jones of Brunswick. He was preceded in death by his father M. G. Jones.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 15 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with graveside burial services followed with Rev. David Yarborough and Rev. Ralph Bailey officiating.
Family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Xavier School Scholarship Fund, In Memory of Mikel A. Jones, 1121 Union Street, Brunswick, Georgia 31520.
Nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers; Ben Jones, Dylan Jones, Cuyler Cribbs, Tom Evans, Mike Bentley and Mark Bragg.
Mike was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. He embraced life to the fullest by spending quality time with his loving family and friends who cherished him. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
