Grady H. Quinn
Grady H. Quinn, age 80, of 12th St. Alma, died early Saturday morning, November 13, 2004 at Satilla Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
He was a native of Hazlehurst but had lived in Alma since 1950. He was son of the late Manning Quinn and Meddie McDaniel Quinn and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Quinn.
Grady was a retired rural mail carrier and was a veteran of WW II while serving in the U. S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Tanner Quinn of Alma, one son, Steve Quinn and wife Margie of Alma; one sister; Lois Phillips of Tifton and three grandchildren, Kevin Quinn, Jason Quinn and Jackie Ramsdell, all of Alma. Also five great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews survive.
Graveside services were held Monday afternoon, November 15 at Campground Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Pet Hayes and Rev. James Boyd officiating.

Gary Strickland
Gary Strickland, age 48, of Brunswick passed away early Saturday morning, November 13, 2004 in the Southeast Ga. Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
He was a native of Duval County, Florida. but, had lived in Brunswick since 1978. Gary was the son of the late Barnie Sloan Strickland, Jr.. He was a member of Normandy Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida and served in the U. S. Army.
Survivors include his mother; Drusilla Perry Aldridge of Douglasville; one daughter, Melissa Strickland of Brunswick; two brothers, Barry S. Strickland of Lady Lake, FL and Kevin Aldridge of Tobyhannah, PA and one sister, Carol Strickland of Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, November 16 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Dewitt Foster officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were employees of S&T Electric of Brunswick.
Honorary pallbearers were Andy Taylor and Jerry Plott.

LaCarl Howell
LaCarl Howell, age 56, passed away suddenly October 12, 2004 at his residence in Ocala, Florida.
He was a native of Bacon County and had lived several years in South Carolina before moving to Ocala in 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chloris V. Howell and Lorene Carter Howell.
Mr. Howell was employed as a tree surgeon in Ocala. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Charles V. Howell (wife, Shirley) of Greer, South Carolina and Wayne Howell (wife, Nancy) of Ocala, Florida, a sister, Bobby Ann Howell of Waycross and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lutricel Taylor
Lutricel Taylor, age 72, of Alma passed away early Friday morning, November 5, 2004 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Oswell Taylor and Gladys Tanner Taylor. She was also a member of the Southside Church of God.
Lutricel was preceded in death by her husband, Estell Taylor a son, David Taylor, a daughter, Reba Joyce, sister, Laverne Carter and a grandchild, Casey Crosby.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Anthony Taylor and Benny Estell Taylor, both of Alma, one daughter, Pat Crosby and husband Frank of Mershon, six brothers, Marlow Taylor of Hazlehurst, Gene Taylor and Johnny Taylor, both of Nicholls, Quillion Taylor, Billy Taylor and Ray Taylor, all of Alma and one sister, Faye Schoppee of Douglas. Also one grandchild and three great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Southside Church of God with Rev. Mark Carver and Rev. Walter Shuman officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Francis (F.D.) David Boatright
Francis (F.D) David Boatright, age 74, of Alma died early Sunday morning, November 7, 2004 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Ellis Boatright and Ida Williams Boatright.
F. D. was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Junior, Perdie and Donald E. Boatright and a sister, Laverne Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Dennie) Boatright of Alma, three sons, Ricky Boatright of Alma, John Waters of Orlando, Florida and Ricki Perteet of Tennessee, three daughters, Kathy Tyre of Jesup, Sherry Walker of Darien and Tina Alicea of Jacksonville, Florida and Celia Sanders of Athens, two brothers, Winifred Boatright and Bobby Boatright, both of Alma and three grandchildren, Sonny, Stacy and Jessica. Also a special friend, L.N. Johnson of Alma.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Barth officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Wesley Chapel Church cemetery on 203.

Todd Martin
Todd Martin age 41, of Alma passed away Thursday night, January 27, 2005 at the Jeff Davis County Hospital after a short illness.
He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Joe (Buddy) Martin.
Survivors include his mother, Janice Williams Howell of Baxley; one brother, Keith Martin of Hazlehurst; three half brothers, Michael Meeks of Baxley, Danny Woods of Hazlehurst and James Woods of Warner Robins; two half sisters, Dianne Lewis of St. Marys, Pam Dobson of Uvalda and two aunts, Anglee Little of Alma and Rose Davis of Pearson. Also several nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 30, 2005 from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Jr. Hayes and Rev. David Miller officiating.

The family asked that donations be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

Jasper Feldon Tyre
Jasper Feldon Tyre, 86, of Blackshear passed away Friday evening, January 28, 2005, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County but had lived most of his life in Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion C. Tyre and Retta Hyers Tyre and by a son, Hal Tyre. Jasper formerly owned and operated the Southland Oil Corp. Service Station in Blackshear for many years. After his retirement, he worked many years for Pierce County at the Pierce County Transfer Station.
He attended Damascus Primitive Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the McDonald’s Coffee Club in Blackshear.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Eva Mae Bryant Tyre of Blackshear; a son, Glennis Tyre (wife Vicki) and a daughter Feldeen Walker, all of Blackshear; four grandchildren, Raymond Walker (wife Abby) of Richmond Hill, Melissa Smith (husband Blake) of Blackshear, Stacie Jorishie (husband Chris) of Davidson, NC and Kristi Bennett (husband Dan) of Blackshear; eight great-grandsons, Caleb Walker of Blackshear, Stetson Smith of Blackshear, Chase Jorishie of Davidson, NC, Daniel Bennett of Blackshear, Spencer Smith of Blackshear, Payton Walker of Richmond Hill, Matthew and Luke Bennett, both of Blackshear; brother, Kennon Tyre of Mershon; two sisters, Laverne T. Boatright of Mershon and Jean Clyatt of Augusta, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 31, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Blackshear. iIntermentfollowed in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Pierce County Employees and members of the McDonalds Coffee Club.

Morris Harrison Chaffin, Jr.
Morris Harrison Chaffin, Jr. age 46, of Alma passed away Monday morning, January 31, 2005 from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
He was a native of Bacon County and a member of Douglas Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Morris Harrison Chaffin, Sr. and Jean Tanner Chaffin of Alma; one son, Morris Harrison Chaffin, III of Alma; one daughter, Christy Jean Lewis of Alma, one brother, Larry Chaffin Tanner of Nicholls and one grandchild, Jason Ridge Lewis of Alma.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, February 2, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Morgan and Rev. R. B. Gaskin officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Meeks cemetery in Nicholls.

Jerry Franklin Tanner
Jerry Franklin Tanner age 35, of Blackshear passed away Sunday evening, January 30, 2005, at his residence after an extended illness.
A native of Bacon County, he had lived there most of his life before moving to Blackshear in 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Vasco Carroll Tanner.
He was employed as a foreman for Sumter Utilities of Sumter, SC. He attended First Community Church in Alma and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include a daughter, Ashley Brooke Nipper of Alma; a son, Austin Jon Tanner of Savannah; his mother and step-father, Shirley and Andy Clough of Blackshear; his grandparents Russell and Louise Tanner of Alma; three brothers Jamie C. Tanner (wife Cindy) of Alma, John A. Tanner (wife Roxanne) of Blackshear, and Matthew A. Clough of Blackshear; a sister, Joni M. Tanner of Blackshear; three step-brothers Andrew L. Clough III of Savannah, Archie R. Clough (wife Mysti) and Chris H. Clough (wife Susan), all of Blackshear; a step-sister, Renee S. Choates (husband Jeremy), Dublin and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 2, 2005 from the First Baptist Church in Blackshear.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Pinelawn cemetery in Alma. .
