Wilma Lee Garner Courson
Wilma Lee Garner Courson, 73, of the Bickley Community passed away Sunday morning, January 9, 2005 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County but had resided most of her life in Ware County. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Rilla Davis Garner and was preceded in death by two brothers, Ward Garner and Howard Garner. She was an active member of the Bickley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Dewitt Courson of the Bickley Community; her children, Joyce Hickox (husband Willie) of Waycross, Sue Carpenter of Augusta, Glynn Courson, Mitchell Courson, Karen Nichols (husband David Eric), Brian Courson (wife Sherrie), all of the Bickley Community, Denise Carden (husband Ty) of Blackshear; three bothers, Dewey Garner of Alma, Lloyd Garner of Portsmouth, VA, Hubert Garner of Auburndale, FL; 15 grandchildren, Rodney Cothern, Gina Anderson (husband Scott), Brad Hickox, Brett Hickox, Alison Carpenter, Elizabeth Carpenter, Vicky Howard (husband Gentry), Crystal Detorre (husband Joey), Daniel Nichols, Amber Boatright, T. J. Carden, Lauren Carden, Preston Courson, Adam Courson, Amy Courson; 5 great-grandchildren, Courtney Anderson, Erica Anderson, Brock Anderson, Kelsey Lloyd, Tabitha Cothern and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Bickley United Methodist Church. iIntermentfollowed in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Bickley U.M.C. Senior Adult Sunday School Class was asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.
Kenneth Medders
Kenneth Medders, age 69, of Alma died Wednesday afternoon, January 5, 2005 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late James Barton Medders and Carrie Lee Curl Medders. Kenny was preceded in death by two sons, Travis and Lawton Medders; three brothers, Walter, Charles (Bug) and Wayne Medders and one sister, Lucille Herndon.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Anna Medders of Alma; five sons, Kenneth Dale Medders and Mikel L. Medders both of Nicholls, James Henry Medders of Broxton, Roy Keith Medders and Richard L. Medders, both of Alma; two brothers, Billy Joe Medders and Don Medders both of Hazlehurst and four sisters, Leccelle Mercer and Rebecca Hart both of Alma, Cloette Johnson of Waynesville and Louise Herrington of Baxley. Also nine grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday January 7, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. James Medders, Rev. R. B. Gaskins and Rev. Kenneth Cox officiating.

Active pallbearers were Joe Medders, Henry Medders, Roy Medders, Richard Medders, Mike Medders and Brent Medders. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Dyal, Bacon County Commissioners, Road Dept and Sheriff’s Dept.

Dollie Hutto
Dollie Hutto, age 81, of Alma died Wednesday afternoon, January 5, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital.
She was a native of Appling County, but had lived most of her life in Bacon County. Dollie was daughter of the late Riley Burton Crapps and Rebecca Nail Crapps. She was preceded in death by her husband J. D. Hutto and a sister Mary Louise McGahee. Dollie also attended Elizabeth Chapel Church.
Survivors include three sons, Dale Hutto, Randy Burton Hutto both of Alma and Michael Hutto of Baxley and one daughter, Carol Ann Harrington of Alma. Also five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Elizabeth Chapel Church with Rev. Gordon Dukes, Rev. Ronnie Howell and Rev. Barry Teutsch officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Johnny Johnson, Stanley Johnson, Charles Johnson, Keith Johnson, Kelvin Johnson and James Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Marlow and Carolyn Taylor, Charlie Taylor, Beth Strickland, Lamar and Willa Drew Black, Dale Morris, Vivian Suttlemyre, Bobbie Hutto, Sonny and Kay Taylor, Cornelia Ann Johnson, Carolyn Dixon, John and Joyce DeLoach, Cecil and Nellie Nail, Mike Suttlemyre and all those in attendance.

Freddie Lee Taylor
Freddie Lee Taylor, age 77, of Alma died, at his residence Tuesday January 4, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Taylor, son of the late Early Taylor and Lennie Buckins Taylor, was born December 13, 1927.
He was employed with Taylor’s Saw Shop that later became Parker’s Sales and Service. He was known for his expertise in small engine repair. Mr. Taylor was a member of Wesley Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Magdalene Williams, Wanda Faye Taylor and Myrtle Keller; one sister-in-law Elvie Taylor and two brothers-in-law Ernie Williams and Billy Keller.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Clara B. Whaley Taylor of Alma, a son and daughrter-in-law, Jerome and Sondra Taylor of LaGrange; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Marie and Martin Simmons of Alma; a grandson Derek J. Taylor of Atlanta; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Leigh and David Mallis of Roswell; a great-granddaughter, Sage Davis Taylor of Vidalia and three brothers, J. C. Taylor, Sr., Early Eugene Taylor and sister-in-law, Carlene Taylor of Alma and Valine Taylor and sister-in-law, Janet Taylor of Falls Church, Virginia. Several nieces and nephews survive and a special little girl, Rachel Brooks.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, January 6, 2005 at Wesley Chapel (WolfPit) Church with Rev. Junior Hayes and Rev. T. F. Yawn officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Wolf Pit Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Johnny Johnson, Billy Shores, Junior Whitley, Danny Turner, Donald Cothern and Buddy Deen. Honorary pallbearers were the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class, members of Wesley Chapel and all others in attendance.

William Richard Hopwood
William Richard Hopwood, age 76, of Alma died January 1, 2005 in Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
Mr. Hopwood was a native of West Virginia but had lived in Alma for the past several years. He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Hopwood and his mother, Opal Hopwood.
Survivors include wife, Barbara Hopwood of Alma; one son, Joseph Hopwood of Baxley; one daughter, Margaret Henderson of Alma and one brother, Joseph Hopwood of Quanico, MD. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, January 4, 2005 in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery.

Juanita Edenfield Hutcheson
Juanita Edenfield Hutcheson, age 84, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Alma. She was a long time resident of Alma Bacon County, GA.
Juanita was the daughter of the late John Edenfield, Sr. and Ruby Farrell Edenfield and was preceded in death by her brother, John L. Edenfield, Jr. and a daughter, Sandra Faye Holland.
She worked with Bacon County Community Services and was a member of New Vision Church Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of sixty four years, Dolye Hutcheson of Alma; one son, Darrel Hutcheson and wife Virginia of Rincon; one son-in-law, Bill Holland of Savannah and five grandchildren, Craig and Cecilia Hutcheson of Waycross, Derek and LeighAnn Hutcheson of Eastman, Shae and Chuck Smith of Ricon, Jennifer and Bryan Gardner of Savannah and Ashlie and David Neal of Tampa, FL. Also twelve great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were be held Saturday afternoon, January 8, 2005 at New Vision Church with Rev. Pet Hayes and Rev. J.M. Rigdon officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Meeks Cemetery.

Terrell Lee Youmans, Sr.
Terrell Lee Youmans, Sr., age 52 of Waycross died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Waycross to the late Johnny L. Youmans, Jr. and Margie Beasley Youmans. He had lived in Waycross for all of his life. He was a retired electrician with Kammerer Electric. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Terrell Lee Youmans, Jr. of Waycross; a daughter, Holly Milligan of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren; two brothers, Ricky Youmans of Waycross and John C. Youmans and wife, Carol of Waycross; two nephews, Donovan Youmans of Waycross, Mark Youmans and wife, Christa of Waycross; a niece, Brandy Youmans of Waycross; a special friend, Mandi Boatright of Waycross and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 3, 2005 at Second Baptist Church. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.

Janet Beverly Tipton
Janet Beverly Tipton, age 64, of Alma died Wednesday afternoon, January 5, 2005 in the Bacon County Hospital after a long illness.
She was a native of Massillio, Ohio, but had lived in this area for the past twenty years. Janet was the daughter of the late Hiram L. Heacox and Helen Sullivan Heacox and preceded in death by a brother, George R. Heacox.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Wilbanks of West Monroe, LA; five brothers, James E. Heacox, Robert P. Heacox, Ronald A. Heacox, Jay V. Heacox and William McKay; three sisters, Margaret Gower, Belores Brown and Barbara Middaugh and two grandchildren, Derick Wilbanks and Charlotte Wilbanks. Also special friends for fifteen years Glenda Deen and family.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 10, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Rogers and Rev. Mark Barth officiating.

Nettie Mae Wilcox
Nettie Mae Wilcox, age 92, of Nicholls, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at the Appling County Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native off Jeff Davis County, but had lived in Nicholls most of her life. She was daughter of the late Marion Cothern and Mae Quinn Cothern and was also preceded in death by her husband, Hoke S. Wilcox; a son, Robert Wilcox and several brothers and sisters. She was a member of Mims Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Hoke Leroy Wilcox, Sr. and wife Joyce of Lake City, Florida; three daughters, Betty Lou Coleman and husband Travis of Griffin, June Marie Craft and husband Milton of Pensacola, Florida and Shirley Mae Aki and husband Sam of Seattle, Washington; a daughter-in-law, Joann Wilcox of Brandon, Florida and one sister, Maxine Stokes of Webster, Florida. Also, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning, January 1, 2005 at Mims Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Coleman, Jr. and a eulogy by Eddie Lance.
Active pallbearers were Milton, Benjamin, Ronald and Andrew Craft, David and Richard Coleman, Hoke Leroy Wilcox, Jr. and Paul Lance. All those in attendance were considered as honorary escorts.

Bill Hanna, Jr.
Bill Hanna, Jr., age 38, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005.
He was the son of the late Coleman Hanna, Jr. and Emily Williams.
Mr. Hanna attended Bacon County public schools. He was employed with D.L. Lee and Son in Alma.
Survivors include a loving wife, Mary L. Hanna of Douglas; a son, Bill L. Hanna of Douglas; a daughter, Martina C. Hanna of Douglas; his mother, Emily Williams of Douglas; one sister, Emma (James) Grant of Douglas; three brothers, Edward (Linda) Williams of Alma, Willie H. (Sabrina) Hanna of Pembroke and Joshua (Linda) Williams of Alma; mother-in-law, Glennie Morgan of Auburn, Alabama, father-in-law, Andrew Macon of Anniston, Alabama, three sister-in-laws, Annice (Ike) Callaway of Lokcopoka, Alabama, Betty Macon and Dianne Morgan, both of Auburn, Alabama; five brother-in-laws, David Morgan, Stanley J. Morgan and Jessie O. Morgan, all of Auburn Alabama, Tony (Rosa) Macon of Anniston, Alabama and Micheal (Vickie) Morgan of Columbus and a grandmother, Louise Pressley of Douglas. Eleven aunts, five uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Glenda Darby officiating. Solo was sung by Sebron Knox and the Eulogy was given by Rev. Jackie Welch. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jackie Reynolds, Tracey O’Neal, James Whatts, Troy Moore, Henry McKinnon and Earl Sparkman. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Franklin, Lonzo Bennett, Hayward Andrews, Eric Nelson and Shawn Cooks. Flower bearers were friends of the family.
