Eliza Frances Hurt Amerson
Services for Eliza Frances Hurt Amerson of McRae were held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 11 at Scotland Baptist Church with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens.
Amerson, 76, died Saturday, June 9, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Ruby Anderson Hurt and the widow of Alvin “Fish” Amerson.
A native of Candler County, she was a member of Scotland Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Jack (Cindy) Amerson of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Janice A. (Robert) Wigley of Hazlehurst and Elaine A. (Eddie) Ashley of McRae; brothers, Bart Hurt of North Carolina and Joe Hurt of North Augusta, S.C.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Amerson, Lynn (Quentin) McArthur, Robyn (Ryan) Williams, Sandy B. ( Paul Craft) Mathis, Jamey Alvin Mathis, Susan (Noe) Salazar, Sherry Ashley and Alicia Dukes; great-grandchildren, Madison McArthur, Marlee McArthur, Nate Williams, Owen Williams, Drew Mathis and Jeremy Mathis; five step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

D'Quillian Harris Jr.
Services for D'Quillian Harris Jr. of McRae were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at McRae United Methodist Church with interment in the family lot at Pitts Cemetery, Pitts, Ga.
The Rev. David Blalock, the Rev. Bobby Dixon and the Rev. Gordon B. Dukes Jr. officiated.
Harris, 87, died Thursday, June 7, 2007. He was the son of the late D Quillian Harris Sr. and Esther Johnson Harris and was married to Eunice Calhoun Harris.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., and he was a graduate of Pitts High School, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps before serving in the United States Coast Guard. He moved to McRae in 1946 and served as Telfair County Agricultural Extension Agent until 1954 when he accepted a marketing position with Coker’s Pedigreed Seed Co. in Hartsville, S.C. where he gained promotion as regional sales manager and agronomist of the Southeastern, U.S. He was past director and past president of Georgia Seedman’s Association, and was awarded lifetime honorable membership. He served as executive director of the Telfair County Chamber of Commerce from 1989-1994 and was named Telfair County Citizen of the Year in 1994. He was a member of McRae United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and taught Sunday School and was a member of the McRae Lions Club and was a mason.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, Dr. D Quillian (Duke) Harris, III (Jennifer) of Moultrie, Calhoun (Theresa) Harris of Jacksonville, Ga. and Dr. W. Lester (Renee) Harris of St. Mary’s; and one daughter, Dorothy (John) Hightower of Roswell; five granddaughters and two grandsons.

Carolyn Moore Selph
Services for Carolyn Moore Selph of Milan were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Milan Baptist Church with interment in the Siloam Cemetery.
Selph, 78, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007. She was the daughter of the late R.D. (Bob) and Lillie Fincher Moore and was the widow of Joe H. Selph.
A native of Dodge County, she was a member of Milan Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Marie Conner Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne (Diane) Selph of Eastman, Don (Beverly) Selph of Vidalia, and Randall (Debbie) Selph of Milan; daughter, Doris S. Collins of Milan; brothers and sisters, Corine M. Brown of Ellabell, Elizabeth M. Jones of Fellsmere, Fla., Rossie M. Mullis of Chauncey, Ollie B. Moore of Cedar Grove and Robert D. Moore of Umatilla, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Russell and Janetta Selph, Roy and Sandy Selph, Luther Selph, Lois Towns, Opel and Roy Grimes, all of Milan and Wyolene Selph of Thomaston.

Carolyn Delores Adams
Services for Carolyn Delores Adams of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Mike Smith officiated.
Adams, 67, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Ada Dukes Pate of Fitzgerald and the widow of Ernest Joe Adams of McRae.
She lived in Telfair County most of her life and was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Ernie Adams of McRae; daughter, Sue Sheffield of Helena; brother, Bobby (Donna) Pate of Hartwell and five grandchildren.

Eva Watson Bloodworth
Services for Eva Watson Bloodworth of Rhine were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Rhine with interment in the church cemetery.
Bloodworth, 80, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Loretta Langley Watson and the widow of Raymond Morgan Bloodworth.
A native of Meigs, she resided most of her life in the China Hill Community and was a retired insurance representative of Woodmen of the World and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Ann B. (Joe) Williams of Jacksonville, Ga. and Gail B. (Bob) Head of Bonaire; sister, Vivian Dopson of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive.

Leroy Durham
Services for Leroy Durham of Milan were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in Friendship Church Cemetery in Milan.
Durham, 88, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007. He was the son of James Waymond and Sarah Iola Butler Durham and was married to Juanita Hulett Durham.
A native of Linden, Texas and former resident of Hot Springs Ark., he was retired from the United States Army and attended United Pentecostal Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Patricia (Patsy) Green Benton Strickland
A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Patricia (Patsy) Green Benton Strickland in St. Augustine, Fla.
Strickland, 61, of Mt. Vernon died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at McRae Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Wilbur Harold and Lynette Fowler Green. She was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Green Thompson.
A graduate of Montgomery County High School in 1963, she spent many years in Germany, Panama, Brunswick, Wheeler County and Mount Vernon. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Victor Raymond (Chrystal) Benton of Macon; granddaughters, Brandy Benton of Lewis, Ind. and Breanna Benton of Macon; sisters, Judith (Rance) Green Benton and Debbie (Marty) Sharpe Dixon of Wheeler County, Karen Green Brown of Macon and Jean Green Bills of New Jersey; brother, Will Green of Savannah; aunts, Carolyn Fowler Wheitzman of Tenn. and Brunelle Fowler Register of Spartanburg, S.C.; nieces, Diana Stewart of S.C., Kim Pinzon of Woodstock, Renae Evans of Wheeler County and Cynthia Burney of Newman; nephews, Robbie Rodgers of Montgomery County and Holmes Clements of Atlanta and several cousins.

Becky Spires Walker
Services for Becky Lou Spires Walker of McRae were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at McRae United Methodist Church with interment in the Telfair Memorial Gardens.
Walker, 82, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 following a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Joel Ross and Exie Smith Spires and was the widow of Lewis Milton Walker.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, she was a sales representative for Avon for more than 40 years and was a member of the McRae United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Sue Ellen (Richard) Waldrep and Nita Jones, both of McRae; sisters, Christine (Emory) Seay and Celestine (Grover) Smith, both of McRae and Vivian (J.W.) Cooper of Macon; brother, Russell Spires of Savannah; grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Waldrep of Helena, Stephanie (Lawrence) Villasenor of Canton, Megan Jones of Mt. Berry, and Lauren Jones of McRae; and great-grandchildren, Adam Waldrep and Ethan Waldrep, both of Helena, and Ian Villasenor and Campbell Villasenor, both of Canton.

Effie Elizabeth Lowie
Services for Effie Elizabeth Lowie of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Helena City Cemetery.
The Rev. Kary Poole officiated.
Lowie, 88, died Thursday, July 26, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie Jessie and Mattie Statham Simmons of Abbeville and was the widow of William Odell Lowie.
She had lived in Telfair County for many years, was a member of Conway Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her four daughters, Joyce L. Miller of DeBary, Fla., Patricia Johns of Lumber City, Brenda Garmon of Tampa, Fla., and Pauline Johnson of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, William Lowie of Orland, Fla., James Lowie of Houston, Texas, and John Lowie of Helena; three sisters, Virginia Ruthland of Panama City, Fla., Shirley Vaughn of Orlando, Fla., and Ruby Lois Sandborn of Tampa, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren.

Dr. Charles 'Ric' Moseley
Services for Dr. Charles “Ric” Moseley of Eastman were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14 in The New Life Church of God in Cochran with interment at 2 p.m. Sunday July 15 in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens in Statesboro.
The Rev. David Holton and the Rev. Ryan Carnes officiated.
Moseley, 41, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Dodge County Hospital. He was the son of Carolyn Moseley and Charles Seborn Moseley of Statesboro and was married to Victoria Moseley.
He was a native of Statesboro and lived in Cochran before moving to Eastman. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and a 1994 Mercer School of Medicine graduate and was a physician at the Telfair Regional Hospital. He enjoyed being with his children, hunting, fishing, four wheeling and dirt bikes and attended New Life Church of God.
In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include his children, Luke and Jordan Moseley of Cochran; stepchildren, Ashley and Andrew of Eastman; brother, Bryan Moseley of Metter; grandmother, Willie Lee Moseley of Statesboro and several aunts and uncles.

Dr. Neal Tharp
A memorial service for Dr. Neal Tharp of Rainbow City, Ala. will be announced at a later date.
Tharp, 65, died Sunday, July 1, 2007. He was the son of the late Onie Neal Tharp and the late Evelyn Cook Tharp and was married to Candace Tharp.
Dr. Tharp held a Ph.D. from Georgia Tech and was a retired educator from Gasden State Community College in Gasden Ala. and had held various positions at the college, last as chairman of the Physics Department and assisted to the dean.
He joined the college in 1991 and retired in 2007 at the end of the school year. He had worked as a senior scientist at Georgia Tech in biomedial research research and private enterprise, as well as a consultant.
Both his parents served as superintendants of education in Telfair County.
Dr. Tharp cared deeply for his colleagues in the Science Department who mentored him when he arrived at Gasden State and supported him during his illness. Many students had corresponded with him about their success in physics.
He loved the sea and was licensed as a sea captain.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Neal Jr. (Rachel) of Houston, Texas and Cameron Tharp of Gasden, Ala.; daughters, Elizabeth (Paul Johnston) Tharp of Carrollton and Rebekah (Christopher) Hammond of Powder Springs; sisters, Lynn (Darrell West) Tharp of McRae and Dr. Carole (Stanley) Kaczorowski of Savannah and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cremation services were provided by Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Wren Columbus Cannon
Services for Wren Columbus Cannon of Milan were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 in the chapel of Sims Funeral Home with interment in Satilla Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Edgar Musgrove and the Rev. Ralph Horne officiated.
Cannon, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008 at home. He was the son of the late Goode and Gatsie Butts Cannon and was married to Beverly Roberson Cannon.
He was born July 16, 1928, was a native of Coffee County and attended Milan Church of God.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Linda (Beamon) Nettles of Cordele, Donnie (Ralph) Beaulieu of Douglas and Barbara (George) Mock of Blackshear; step-children, Jimmie (Tammy) Davis, Robin (John) Loden of Milan and Trini (Larry) Stevenson of Rentz.
Active pallbearers were Lamar Lott, Ray Lee, Raymond Cato, Larry Lott, Perry Swanson and Preston Thornton.
Regina Coffee sang “Roses Will Bloom Again,” Mike Smith sang “Go Rest High on that Mountain” with guitar and Eva Brown sang “Amazing Grace.”
