Sudie Karr
Sudie Karr, age 85, of Alma, formerly of Altantic Beach, FL passed away Wednesday morning, May 4, 2005 at her residence after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late James Lee Hutto and Mae Crapps Hutto. Sudie was preceded in death by her husband, Bryon B. Karr, Sr.; one brother, Hollis Hutto and a sister, Sadie Gray.
Survivors include one nephew, Jack Hutto of Alma and four nieces, Betty Lee and Linda Rowland of Alma, Gail Watkins of Palm Coast, FL and Glenda Radtke of Pierson, FL.
Graveside services were held Thursday afternoon, May 5, 2005 at Pinelawn cemetery with Rev. Junior Hayes officiating.

Howard Lee Cooper
Howard Lee Cooper, age 71, of Nicholls passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Coffee Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Cooper, a native of Floyd County, Georgia was born April 20, 1934. He was the son of the late Grady Henry and Maudie Irene McBurnam Cooper. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mollie Marie Carter and Emma Elizabeth Benefield.
Survivors include brothers, W.L. Cooper (Virginia) Cooper and John Rufus Cooper of Broxton; sister, Bonnie Mae Merritt (Rev. James Merritt) of Broxton and a special friend, Betty Kersey of Nicholls. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services and burial were held Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the Central Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. James Merritt officiating.
Active pallbearers were William Cooper, James Merritt, Jr., Jackie Tipton, Tim Meeks, Tom Meeks and Darryl Spikes.

Thomas William (Billy) Courson
Thomas William (Billy) Courson, age 74, of Jacksonville; passed away early Saturday morning, May 7, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center of Jacksonville after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, but had lived in Jacksonville since 1956. Billy was son of the late George W. Courson and Delma McClellan Courson and was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Courson and a sister, Sarah Lou Courson. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict while serving in the U. S. Air Force. Billy was a member of the V. F. W. and American Legion and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rogerlyne Rogers Courson of Jacksonville; four sons; Johnny Courson and wife Phyllis, Paul and wife Sandi, Stephen and wife Janice, all of Jacksonville and Roger and wife Chris of St. Augustine; two brothers, George (G.W.) Courson and Fred Courson of Jacksonville; a sister, Ruth Batz of Jacksonville and five grandchildren, Rebecca, Erin, Marshall, Elise and Andrew, all of Jacksonville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. James Ussery officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Patrick and Michael Courson, Dale Hand, Jim Maddox, Dane, Johnny and Richard Ussery. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Jody Jarrard
Jody Jarrard, age 32, of Alma died suddenly Thursday evening, April 28, 2005 due to injury sustained from a motorcycle accident.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of late William (W.L.) Lester Jarrard and was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Jacob Jarrard. Jody was a 1990 graduate of Bacon County High School, a graduate of Okefenokee Technical College, a member of Westside Congregational Methodist Church, teacher of the Teen Sunday School Class and a member of the Clown Ministry. He was also employed with G.A.T.X. Rail of Waycross.
Survivors include his mother, Crissie Taylor Jarrard of Alma; his wife, Amy Alicia Redding Jarrard of Alma; one son, Jacob Jarrard of Alma; one daughter, Jessye Raye Jarrard of Alma; two brothers, Sammy Jarrard and wife Monnie, Mark Gritzke and wife Rita, all of Alma and three sisters, Sandra Bennett and husband David of Waycross, Dana Hutto and husband Andy, Julie Tillman and husband Marty, all of Alma. Several nieces, nephews, one great niece and nephew also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Westside Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Junior Hayes officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Level Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Keith Simmons, Timmy Peacock, R.H. Dixon, Dooley Harris, Tony E. Lee and Ray Thrift. Honorary pallbearers were the Bacon County High School Class of 1990, Teen Sunday School Class and G.A.T.X. Boys.

M.C. Holton
M.C. Holton, age 68, of Alma passed away Tuesday morning, April 26, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the Clifford Lee Holton and Madie Taylor Holton and preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Holton, two sisters, Juanita Waters and Oveda Rewis. M.C. was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and a retired logger.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Rewis Holton of Alma; two sons, Larry Holton and wife Brenda, Jody Holton and wife Michelle, all of Alma; three daughters, Carolyn Clements and husband Pee Wee, Janice Simmons, all of Alma and Wendy Holton of Park View, Washington and one sister, Othedias (Tootise) Gurley of Alma. Also nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Herman Moore, Rev. Troy Turner and Rev. Mark Barth officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pinelawn Cemetery.

Henry Wade ‘Sam’ Orvin
Henry Wade “Sam” Orvin, age 70, passed away at his residence Thursday, April 21, 2005.
He was born December 24, 1934 in Appling County and had resided here all of his life. He was self-employed as a carpenter. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Huey “Buster” Ray Orvin, Franklin Orvin and Cecil Orvin. He was the son of the late Alexis Orvin and the late Ella Mae Burke Orvin.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jean Orvin of Baxley, two daughters and sons-in-law, Lanita and Greg Hand of Alma and Joella and Allen Stalvey of Baxley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Jean Orvin of Alma and Roger and Karen Orvin of Baxley; five sisters, Willie Ree Orvin Altman of Alma, Faye Beck of Hazlehurst, Geneva Simmons of Baxley, Eleanor Vickery of Brandon, FL and Deloris Carter of Swannee, GA and one brother, Robert Bob Orvin of Savannah. Five grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one adopted step grandchild and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Red Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Ross, Rev. Durwood Perry and Rev. Robert Black officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Red Oak Church cemetery with his nephew, Rev. Steve Altman officiating.
Active pallbearers were Dale Lynch, Greg Black, David Black, Curtis W. Taylor, Eddie Black, Dewayne Black, Merrell Miles and Lamar Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Adult Sunday School Class of Red Oak Baptist Church, The Deacons of Red Oak Baptist Church, Bob Burkett, Employees of Hunter Johnson, Kenneth Stone, Roy Waters and all friends attending the service.

Mildred Oliver Taylor
Mildred Oliver Taylor, age 78 of Alma and Douglas, went to be with The Lord on Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia after a brief illness.
Ms. Taylor, a native of Calhoun County, Florida was born on November 04, 1926, daughter of the late Omar Clarence and Mary Lou Kenimer Oliver. She was a graduate of Asbury College and the University of Georgia. She was a retired educator, and she taught in the Bacon County and Coffee County School System and South Georgia College. She was the former wife of the late Russell Taylor. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Zelotes Oliver and a grandson, Caleb Taylor.
Survivors include sons, Stephen (wife, Karen) Taylor of Salem, IL, Neill (Lynn) Taylor; grandchildren, Bryan Taylor, Lara Sullens, James Taylor, Scott Taylor, Alyssa Taylor and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2005 at the Douglas City cemetery with Rev. Glenn Taylor officiating.

Henrietta Coleman Foskey
Henrietta Coleman Foskey, 86, of Waycross, formerly of Blackshear, passed away Monday afternoon, April 25, 2005, at her residence, after an extended illness.
A native of Emmanuel County, she had lived most of her life in Pierce County before moving to Waycross a short time ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Columbus Foskey; her parents, Henry Coleman and Ammie Allen Coleman; a son, Darrell Foskey; a daughter, Linda Barnes; a son-in-law, Paul Dell; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Foskey and a granddaughter, Christy Dixon.
She worked several years as a seamstress in local factories in Blackshear and Alma. She was a member of Mershon Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors include four sons, Herbert Foskey (wife Betty), Bonifay, FL, Edwin Foskey (wife Margie), Jacksonville, FL, Sheriff Richard Foskey (wife Gina), Alma, Wayne Foskey (fiance Joan Hendrix), Patterson, FL; five daughters, Sarah Nell Dell, Waycross, Joyce Woodcock (husband Charles), Keni, AK, Nancy Mock, Waycross, Frances Dixon (husband Tony), Defuniak Springs, FL, Ann Yarborough (husband Jimmy), Waycross; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28, from the Mershon Baptist Church.

T. Rowland
T. Rowland, age 97, of Alma passed away Monday morning, April 18, 2005 at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home after an extended illness.
He was a native of Emanuel Co. but had lived in Bacon County the past sixty two years. T was the son of the late Nathan Rowland and Sidney Hutchenson Rowland and preceded in death by his wife, Sudie Nunn Rowland and a son Howard Rowland. He was of the Primitive Baptist Faith and a retired farmer.
Survivors include two sons, Leon Rowland and wife Betty Jean, Carl Rowland and wife Linda, all of Alma; one sister, Reva McPhaden of Brainbridge; and one daughter-in-law, Dollie Rowland of Alma and five grandchildren, Freddy and Lester Rowland and Wanda Allen, all of Alma, Michele Theus of Milledgeville and Marty Edwards of Callahan, FL. Eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services were held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Lord and Rev. Richard Johnson officiating.
Gloria Jean Mercer
Gloria Jean Mercer, age 62, of Alma passed away suddenly Sunday, July 24, 2005 at her residence.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Almond Poole and Coretta Stewart and preceded in death by her husband, Arvin Mercer, brother, Carlos Poole and a sister, Rita McNeil.
Survivors include two sons, Denny Oliver of Jasper and Bennie White of Homerville; two daughters, Tammy Bryant of Alma and Robin Mercer Character of Waycross; one brother, William Poole of Douglas and one sister, Linda Harman of Lilburn. Also two grandchildren survive.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at Douglas Chapel cemetery with Rev. Mark Barth officiating.
