Talmadge Earl T.E. ‘Sam’ Pinson
Mr. Talmadge Earl T. E. “Sam” Pinson, age 36, of Douglas Georgia passed away on Friday, June 24, 2005, as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
Mr. Pinson, a native of Jefferson Parrish, Louisiana was born April 30, 1969, son of the late Everett Anderson Pinson and Edna Grace Greer Pinson Cox. He was a Coffee County 911 Center Dispatcher and had worked in surrounding 911 Centers.

J. Pinson, Brett Meeks, Coty Hollis, Cory Pinson, Nieces, Cindy Pinson, Stephanie Meeks & Katie Hollis, Several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 27, 2005, at Sims Funeral Home Chapel in Douglas Georgia with Rev. Walter James officiating. Special taped selections of: “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “Old Rugged Cross” were provided. Pianist Daveen Smith played the prelude and postlude music.
Burial followed in the Moore cemetery in Ware County, Georgia.
Active pallbearers were Chris Rudd, Andre Brinson, Mark Cothern, Chris Elrod, Terrell Sallet, Randy Harkleroad, Bernard Cook and Brian Burgamy. Mary Anna Medders
Mary Anna Medders, age 69, of Alma passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Atkinson County but had lived in Bacon County since 1938. Mary was daughter of the late Thomas Henry Corbitt and Forrest Lee Cason Corbitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Medders, two sons, Lawton and Travis Medders and three brothers, Richard Benny Corbitt, Cereal Thomas Corbitt and Otis Corbitt. She was also a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Kenneth Dale Medders, Mikel L. Medders (wife, Jennie), all of Nicholls, James Henry Medders (wife, Wanda), all of Alma; one brother, Lloyd Phillip Corbitt of Brunswick; one sister, Anna Marie Ganas of Waycross and a half sister, Margaret Cadle of Calhoun. Fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 1, 2005 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. R.B. Gaskins and Rev. Kenneth Cox officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Demetris ‘Pete’ Crosby
Demetris “Pete” Crosby, 78, of Brunswick, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2005 at Hospice of the Golden Isles.
A native of Alma, Georgia, Mr. Crosby lived in Brunswick since 1949. He was employed by Seaboard Construction for 8 years, prior to becoming an engineer for the Department of Transportation where he worked from 1967 until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Crosby attended Pine Ridge Baptist Church and was a member of Ocean Lodge 214 F&AM, Iron Workers Local 597 of Jacksonville, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2588, and had served with the United States Army Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Crosby of Brunswick; a son, Berry Crosby of Brunswick; two sisters, Idell Boatright of Alma, Irene Turner of Byron, two grandsons, Ashley Crosby and Adam Crosby, and a great-granddaughter, Abbigale Crosby. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ed Hurst officiating.
Active pallbearers were Ronnie Carver, Berry Thompson, Merle Stevens, Bob Funderburk, Jackie Cooper and Billy McQueen. Honorary pallbearers were the Afternoon Card Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles.

Bobbie Jean Ballew
Bobbie Jean Ballew of Stockbridge, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at the Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough after a hard battle with cancer. She was a native of LaGrange and the daughter of Ruby Caswell of Franklin and Lloyd Waldrep of Franklin.
Survivors include her husband John L. Ballew of Stockbridge; two sons, Tim Smith and wife Lorie of Dallas, Georgia, and Tom Ballew of Clearwater, Florida; five daughters, DeeAnna Bickford and husband Kenneth of Callahan, Florida, Linda Cason of Alma, Cindy Taylor and husband Keith of Alma, Kathy Huber of California, and Cindy Ballew of Forest Park; and one sister, Marion Fenton of Flowery Branch.
Fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Home in Monroe. Active pallbearers were: Mark Ballew, Christopher Friend, Charles Ballew, Albert Sellers, Michael Senter and Daniel Griffin.

Jeanette Ivey Arnold
Jeanette Arnold, age 59, of Alma died suddenly Saturday, July 2, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.
She was a native of Bryan Co., Georgia but had lived in Alma most of her life. Jeanette was daughter of the late Lamar Ivey and Winnie Napier Ivey and was preceded in death by a brother Gerald Ivey. She was a member of Westside Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include a fiancé, Glenn Collins of Nicholls; three sons, Michael Mullis, David Mullis and Joey Mullis all of Alma; a daughter, Melanie Wines of Alma; four brothers, Dewayne Ivey of Nicholls, Lamar Ivey, Jr and Jack Ivey both of Jesup and Johnny Ivey of Alma; a sister, Jane Ivey of Alma; and ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 5, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Carver officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mima Ruth Taylor
Mima Ruth Taylor, age 84, of Alma died early Sunday, July 3, 2005 in the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Appling County, but had lived many years in Jacksonville, Florida and moved to Alma in 1992. Mima was daughter of the late Joseph Johnson and Ruth Harden Johnson and preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Taylor.
Survivors include two brothers; Dave Johnson of Vidalia, and Manning Johnson of Augusta, One sister, Josie Johnson of Tallahassee, Florida. One nephew, Brady Lewis of Alma.
Two nieces, Virginia Hutcheson of Savannah and Betty Cranford of Baxley.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Elishia Purvis and Rev. Marty Anderson officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.

Naomi B. Smith
Naomi B. Smith, age 78, of Gainesville, FL, passed away Monday, October 3, 2005, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.
A native of Alma, she had also lived in Douglas before moving to Gainesville 53 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Northwest Baptist Church. She enjoyed baking and quilting.
Survivors include her husband, Elton C. Smith, Gainesville; a daughter, Lynda Hanssen of Hawthorne, FL; sons, Ronald S. Smith and Mitchell J. Smith, both of Gainesville; sisters, Vernelle Galloway of Sierra Vista, AZ, Martha Boatright of Blackshear and Eva Mae McCullough of Dade City; brothers, Foster Boatright of Blackshear and Quincy Boatright and Gary Boatright, both of Callahan, FL; Glenn Boatright of Middleburg, Mitchell Boatright Jr. of Atlanta and Floyd Boatright of Jacksonville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

George James Rhoads
George James Rhoads, age 86, of Radford, VA passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was a native of New Haven, Conn., son of the late George Lucian Rhoads and Margaret Vollmer Rhoads and preceded in death by two sisters, Martha M. Reed and Mary E. Erwin. George served in the U.S Navy during WWII and Korean War and was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford, VA.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Meeker Rhoads of Radford, VA; one daughter, Dr. Gail Stone of Radford, VA; one son, James Riley (Sandy) Rhoads of Radford, VA.; one sister, Ruth Mollahan of West VA and two brothers, Rev. John L. Rhoads of Kingston, TN and James W. Rhoads of Middleburg, FL. Also two grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Ersell Alderman and Rev. John Rhoads officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Wesley Chapel cemetery with full Military Honors.

Rev. Tulane D. Mooneyham
Rev. Tulane D. Mooneyham, age 88, loving husband of Lucille Mooneyham, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2005 at his residence.
Mooneyham was born in Chickasaw County, Mississippi to Walter Scott and Mary Adeline Sullivan Mooneyham on August 30, 1917. He graduated from Bible Training School in Sevierville, Tennessee and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. He also studied at Burton Theological Seminary. He served as pastor in Oklahoma, North and South Dakota, Georgia, and Zimbabwe. He was a missionary overseer in Angola, Nigeria, and Chile.
He was president of Berea Bible Seminary in South Africa. He visited and ministered in almost one hundred countries worldwide. Additional family members include daughters Shirley Wooldridge and husband the Rev. Ted Wooldridge, from Jasper, Georgia, Col. Beverley Best and husband Charles, from Buda, Texas, Glenda Mooneyham from Augusta, Georgia; and Kathleen Cook from Aiken, South Carolina. He was also a former pastor at Alma Church of God.
He is also survived by his sister, Marie Aland, from Chula Vista, California; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lavaun Kimbrough and Olivia Berting, and brothers, Wayne Mooneyham, Joe Mooneyham, and Dr. Stanley Mooneyham.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. at His Community Church, 3358 Peach Orchard Rd. with the Rev. Ken Young officiating. Dr. Daniel Black, Dr. Don Walker, Dr. Lewis Stover, and Rev. Ted Wooldridge participated in the service. iIntermentfollow at Westover Memorial Park.

Mary Darlene Smith Kirkland, age 46, of Nicholls Georgia passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at home after a brief illness.
Mrs. Kirkland, a native of Coffee County, Georgia was born August 24, 1959, Daughter of the late Pat, Jr. and Mary Olive Wooten Smith. She was a homemaker. Brothers, Charlie Smith, Alvin Smith & Sister, Lavaughn Jones preceded her in death.
Survivors include husband, David Kirkland; sons, Shane Cumbass and Josh Kirkland of Douglas; daughter, Sherry Lepeak of Jacksonville FL; sisters, Alene (Carl) Whitely, Nicholls and Sally (D. J.) Turner of Douglas; brother, Randy (Gail) Smith of Columbus; three grandchildren and four step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2005, at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas Georgia with Rev. Scott Smith and Rev. Allen Peacock officiating.
