Lynnett Wood Wilcox
Services for Mrs. Lynnett Wood Wilcox, 69, of Hazlehurst, who passed away October 15, 2005 at her residence, were held on October 17 at Southside Baptist Church. Rev. Bryan Wilcox, Rev. James Wilcox, Rev. Tyrone Hutchinson and Rev. Edward Graham officiated with interment held in Philadelphia Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Wilcox was a native of Mt. Vernon but had lived most of her life in Jeff Davis County. She was the daughter of the late Leonard A. and Birdie Ray Wood. She was a homemaker, former clerk at the Jeff Davis County Tax Commissioners office and a substitute teacher. She was a member of the Colonel Daniel Appling Daughters of the American Revolution in Baxley and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Wilcox and a sister, Wilma Jean Newell.
Survivors include husband of 53 years, Theo Wilcox of Hazlehurst; sons, Michael (Donna) Wilcox of Hazlehurst, and the Rev. Bryan Wilcox of Fort Medea, Fla.; sisters, Joan W. Cauley of Alma, Martha Jane (Leonard) Dykes and Ray Carol (Clyde) McCall, both of Hazlehurst; brother, Leonard A. (Angel Lee) Wood of Rex; grandsons, Michael Shawn (Stacy) Wilcox, U.S. Navy Virginia and Jamie Allen Wilcox of St. Mary’s; great-grandchildren, Seda Lyric Wilcox and Sequoia Rose Wilcox; several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were Shawn Wilcox, Jamie Wilcox, Jeffrey Cauley, Mark Cauley, Gary McCall, Stanley McCall, Christopher Dykes and Leonard A. Wood III.
Honorary pallbearers were friends attending the service.
Music was rendered by David Simmons and Jimmy Wilcox.

Robert Lawrence Swain
Robert Lawrence Swain, age 47, of Waycross passed away Monday morning, October 10, 2005 at the Jesup Health Care after an extended illness.
He was a native of Fernandina Beach, FL. but he lived most of his life in Bacon County. Robert was the son of the late Estell Emmit Swain and Lucille Swain Cothern and preceded in death by his step- father, Edward Hampton Cothern. Robert was raised at the Tenth Street Church of God and was presently attending Kettlecreek Methodist Church in Waycross.
Survivors include two sisters, Frances Dee Altman of Waycross and Margret Swain of Alma; six brothers, Tracy Swain, Virgil Estell Swain, J.W. Swain, Rex Allen Swain, Randy Edward Cothern, all of Alma, and Leonard Edward Swain of Kissimmee, Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 12, 1005 at Tenth Street Church of God with Rev. Troy Turner, Rev. Larry Gunter and Rev. Hulet Smith officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Oakland cemetery in Waycross.
Active pallbearers were Ron Williams, Randy Johnson, David Moore, Tom Holton, Theo Clark and Wayne Williams. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Cora Lee Roberson
Cora Lee Roberson Pierce, age 92, of Waycross Georgia passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2005, at Baptist Village in Waycross Georgia.
Mrs. Pierce, a native of Pierce County, Georgia was born April 07, 1913. Daughter of the late Sonny Melton and Arabell Aspinwall Roberson. She is the widow of the late Elmer Haywood Pierce. She was a homemaker and her church membership was at Nicholls Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Donna (Stanton) Meeks, Waycross, Marjorie (Jack) Robertson, Green Cove Springs FL; brothers, Russell Roberson and Lenton Roberson, Offerman, sisters, Elsie Denison, Screven, Bertie Davis, Jesup, Wiladean Ball, Waycross, grandchildren, Becky Sutton, Villa Rica, Derrick Meeks, Waycross, Beth Robertson, Tampa FL, and great-grandchildren, Caroline Sutton and Conner Sutton, Villa Rica.
Funeral Services were held Monday, September 26, 2005, at the Nicholls Baptist Church in Nicholls Georgia with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. Tyler Walker, Pianist provided soft music for the prelude, interlude and postlude. Burial followed in the Meeks cemetery near Nicholls Georgia.
Active pallbearers were Dwayne Page, Fred Anderson, J.V. Lee, Wilbert Anderson, Larry Page, Herman Adams, Denny Johnson, Hilton Smith and Kenneth Cannon.

Blanche I. Safley
Blanche I. Safley, age 84, passed away Monday, September 26, 2005.
Mrs. Safley was born in Bacon County and was the widow of the late Robert L. Safley. She was a member of Abilene Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Jeanne Baucom Sunday School Class. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of several clubs over the last 25 years.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Judy Safley of Evans; a daughter, Willene Kupitz of Evans; two brothers, Ernest and Edward McCarty of Alma; five sisters, Alberta Herrin of Odum, Ole Mae Steedley of North Augusta, SC, Edith Rix of Rom, Dessie Osbon of Aiken, SC and Virginia Boatright of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Craig Kupitz and Gabriele Flanigan and seven great-grandchildren, Heather, Katelynn and Corey Kupitz and Channing, Logan, Ashton and Raegin Flanigan.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Abilene Baptist Church with Dr. William Harrell and Rev. Barry Daniel officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were family and honorary pallbearers were members of the Jeanne Baucom Sunday School Class.

Melissa Garner
Melissa Garner, age 29, of Alma passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2005 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Tampa, Florida but, had lived in Bacon County for the past 18 years.
Survivors include her parents, Dewey Garner and Gaynell Thompson Garner of Mershon; two brothers, Mark and Edward Garner, both of Mershon; one sister, Susan Williams and husband Travis of Mershon and two half brothers, Doug Garner and wife Mary of Tampa, Florida and Dewey Ashworth and wife Shirley of Rome, GA.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Carver officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Roxie Mae Cemetery. Active pallbearers were William Kitchen, Chad and Chuck Thompson, Doug Garner, Darren Douglas and Billy Allbritton.

Reed Thompson
Reed Kenneth Thompson, age 74, husband of Margaret Louise Drody Thompson of Pinopolis, South Carolina passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina after a prolonged fight against prostate cancer.
Graveside services were held at Summerville cemetery on Friday, September 30, 2005.

David Gurley
David Gurley, age 45, of Alma, passed away suddenly Sunday, September 25 from injuries sustained in a two vehicle accident.
He was a native of Bacon County, a well known plumber and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Junior and Othedias Holton Gurley of Alma; his wife, Beverly Thomas Gurley of Alma; two daughters, Alicia and Kayla Gurley, both of Alma; a sister, Peggy Carter of Alma; one grandson, Christian Gurley of Alma and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 3 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Hayes, Rev. Billy Mac Dyal, Rev. Edmund Thrift and Rev. Mark Barth officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Jolly Evelee Cox
Jolly Evelee Cox, age 69, of Douglas passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Coffee Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Cox, a native of Marion County Mississippi, was born December 23, 1935, son of the late Archie and Myrtal Ruby Louge Cox. He is the widower of the late, Edna P. Cox. He was a sanitation worker with the city government.
Survivors include sons, Jolly Cox, Jr. Kokomo MS and Ricky Pinson, Nicholls; daughters, Becky Hollis, Douglas, Glenda Meeks, Nicholls and Lynn Martin, Beaufort SC; sisters, Rose Hale and Minnie Roberson, Jasper TX and Mickie Powell; brother, Donnie Cox, Washington, LA and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by, Wife, Edna P. Cox, Son, Sam Pinson, Brother, Red Cox, Sister, Polly Byrd.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 02, 2005 at 2 p.m at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Stead officiating. Special taped selections of “That Lucky Old Sun” and “Wayfaring Stranger” by Johnny Cash were provided. Burial followed in the Moore Family cemetery in Ware County.

Jessie Bratcher
Jessie Bratcher, age 62, of Alma passed away Monday, September 19, 2005 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County. Daughter of the late George Melvin Taylor and Odessa Haggard Taylor.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Arnold Bratcher; a son, David Arnold Bratcher and a brother, Aubrey Taylor.
Survivors include her mother, Odessa Haggard Taylor; two daughters, Wendy Lloyd and husband Austin of Nicholls and Annette Lewis and husband Brookie; one brother, George Taylor and wife Ruby of Charlotte, NC and one sister, Margie Shelton.
Also five grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 22, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Denny Cothern officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Cody and Austin Llyod, Mike and David Taylor, Gordon and Everette Haggard and Kevin Lloyd. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Floyd Herbert Bratcher
Elder Floyd Herbert Bratcher, 56, of Blackshear passed away suddenly Monday, September 19, 2005, from injuries he sustained from an accident on Knight Avenue in Waycross.
A native of Bacon County, he was reared in Ware County but had lived in Pierce County for the last fifteen years. He was a light equipment operator for the City of Waycross and was a former employee of Farr’s Furniture and also the State of Georgia. He was an ordained minister and evangelist and was a member of Smyrna Fellowship Church.
Survivors are his wife, Edie Thrift Bratcher of Blackshear; a daughter, Kerri Parr of Blackshear; a son and daughter-in-law, John David and Jessica Horton, stationed in Guam with the US Air Force; his parents, Hollis and Elizabeth Knowles Bratcher of Blackshear; a brother and sister-n-law, J. B. and Alice Bratcher of Waycross; a nephew, Jonathan Bratcher; a niece, Kayla Bratcher Roe and several other relatives.
Funeral services for Elder Bratcher were held Friday, September 23, 2005, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.
