Goldie Boatright

Goldie Boatright, age 82, of Alma passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2005 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Ware County but had lived most of her life in Bacon County. Goldie was daughter of the late John Leon Hickox and Mamie Altman Hickox, also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse J. Boatright; three sons, J.E., Russell and Gary Boatright; a brother, Billy Hickox; a sister, Rosie May Allen, six step sons, Delman, Edsel, Junior, W.F., Roy T. Boatright, Sr. and Larry Carter. She was a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught Sunday School and was a member in the choir for many years. She was always very active in the Carter Town Community.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and Joey Boatright, both of Cadwell; three daughters, June Robertson of Athens, Sue Leger of Ft. Myers, Florida and Kaye Boatright; one step son, Darrell Boatright; two step daughters, Vera Lee and Betty Woods of Ft. Myers, Florida; two brothers, Johnny Hickcox of Waycross and Cecil Courson of Blackshear and three sisters, Thelma Sweat of Jacksonville, Florida, Mary Lovell of Jesup and Dollie Gray of Waycross. Also 34 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 14 great, great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 23, 2005 at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Pet Hayes and Rev. Brian Gill officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Wesley Chapel cemetery on Hwy. 203.
Active pallbearers were Keith and Jerry Boatright, Darrell Boatright Jr., Roy T. Boatright, Jr., Jimmy Brown, Tony Lee, Jr., and Tim Carter.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert D’Wayne Banks

Robert D’Wayne Banks, age 33, of Alma passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at his residence after a short illness.
He was a native of Chatham Co. and son of the late Ernest Carroll Banks. Robert is preceded in death by his grandfather, A.B. Taylor, Jr. and a sister, Robbie Lynn Banks.
Survivors include his mother, Elaine Taylor of Alma; Grandmother, Mrs. (A.B.) Jimmie Taylor of Alma; two brothers, William (Pele) Eugene Parks and John and wife, Bridget Banks of Dallas, Texas and three sisters, Katherine Parks Simmons of Beaufort, South Carolina, Carolyn Sue Banks Dewey of Collinsville, Texas and Sherry Carole Banks of Texarkana, Texas. Also several nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 23, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Nickell officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Larry Barber, Ricky Giles, Alexander Hofer, Josh Tatum, Bradley Fenner and Matt Thomas. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Danny Brewer

Danny Brewer, age 43, of Alma passed away at his residence Thursday, September 22, 2005 after a short illness.
He was a native of Jeff Davis County, but had live in Bacon County since 1990. Danny was son of the late Ivy Brewer, Sr. and preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Ann Rentz. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel Crosby Brewer of Hazlehurst; his wife, Barbara Stone Brewer of Alma; three brothers, Ivy (Bubba) Brewer, Paul Brewer, both of Hazlehurst and Durrell Brewer of Comer and six sisters, Sharon Bridges of Alma, Brenda Brown, Susie Taylor, Debra McNeal and Patsy White, all of Hazlehurst and Peggy Music of Waycross.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 24, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Daniel, Rev. David Miller and Rev. David Griffin officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jonathan Mills, Chase Brown, Patrick White, Anthony McNeal, Stacey Brewer and Cliff Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Operation Dept. of Plant Hatch, Dr. Perry Streat, Carla Taylor, Laura Beverly, Ray and Sheila Taylor, Linda Meeks, Macy McKenzie, Milliken & Co., Fred Kopp, Susan Davis, In Home Respiratory Care, Bacon County EMT’s and Bacon County Hospital staff.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lillie Mae Holton

Lillie Mae Holton, 69, of Midway passed away Monday, September 19, 2005 at her residence after a long illness with family by her side.
Mrs. Holton was a native of Bacon County but had lived in Liberty County since 1961 having moved here from Jackson, Georgia. She was the owner and operator of Buddy’s Grocery in Midway and was a homemaker. Mrs. Holton was a member of the Midway United Methodist Church.
Survivors include husband of 53 years, Buddy Holton; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Lynn Holton, Richard and Tracy Holton, Larry and Cindy Holton and Harold and Susan Holton, all of Midway and one brother, Roy Meeks. Survivors also include 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 22, 2205 at the Midway United Methodist Church with the Rev.’s John Walker and Ronnie Register officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Richard Holton, Jr., Robert Holton, Joshua Clowers, Joe Holton, Pete Vasquez and Joseph Mock.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Franklin Nipper

Franklin Nipper, age 74, of Broxton passed away Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Coffee Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Frank Nipper and Dorothy Mae Harris and preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Nipper.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Nipper of Broxton; one daughter, Linda Gail Haney and husband Robert of Irving, TX; two step children, Ricky Peacock of Douglas and Sandra Smith of Broxton; three brothers, James Nipper and wife Judy of Alma, Bobby Nipper and wife Lisa of Blackshear and Ronnie Nipper and wife Sherry of Baxley and six sisters, Illa Jean Taylor, Betty Hood, Nell Morrison and husband Don, Shirley Chancey, Patsy Ruis and husband J. Frank, all of Alma and Ann Bazemore of Hillard, FL. Also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 25, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Pastor George Moxley officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Friendship Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mark Nipper, Tony Nipper, Jeff Taylor, Tommy Taylor, Fred Smith and Chris Cravey. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Willene Sellers

Willene Sellers, age 64, of Alma passed away Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Candler County Hospital in Metter after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Joseph Simon Nettles and Mima Ann Mercer. Willene was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Pee Wee Sellers, two sons, Jerry Curtis Sellers and Robert Curtis Sellers, a brother, James Nettles, a sister, Mildred Taylor and several nieces and nephews. She attended New Lacy Church of God and had worked for Bennett’s Nursery for many years.
Survivors include four sons, Lamar Judo (Elsie) Sellers, Johnny (Pat) Sellers, Tommy Joe (Peggy) Sellers and Donnie (Vicky) Sellers, all of Alma; one daughter, Sandy (Daniel) Edwards of Alma; four brothers, J.C. (Rhonda) Nettles of St. George, Jack (Barbara) Nettles of Alma, Jerry (Angie) Nettles of Douglas and Warnie (Judy) Nettles of Blackshear and one sister, Merline (Thomas) Davis of Cummings, GA. Eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 25, 2005 at New Lacy Church of God with Rev. R.B. Gaskins officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Tommy Joe Sellers, Donnie Sellers, Chris Nettles, Joshua Nettles, Doug Nettles, Mark Nettles, Joey Nettles and Donnie Connor. Honorary pallbearers were Stevie Taylor, Jana and Danny Douglas, Ches Bennett, Vivian Williams, Ruby White and Jeannie Lee Bulter.

Annie Lee Whitley

Annie Lee Whitley, age 87, of Nicholls, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2005 at her residence after an extended illness.
She was native of Coffee County but had lived in Bacon County most of her life. Annie was the daughter of the late Sid Anderson and Minnie Wright Anderson and preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Carolyn Gilliard.
Survivors include her husband, William Whitley of Alma; three sons, William (Doris Nell) Whitley, Jr., Sidney (Wanda) Whitley and Wayne Whitley, all of Alma and one sister, Minnie Lewis of Alma. Twelve grandchildren and twenty five great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 27, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Harper officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Harrell Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Coffee County.
Active pallbearers were Ricky, Clay and Jason Gilliard, Clint and Sid Whitley, Shon and Brant Whitley. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Jewel Yawn Thomas

Jewell Yawn Thomas, age 74, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 at her home in Jesup after an extended illness.
She was a Bacon County native, former resident of Alma and had lived in Wayne County most of her life. She was a former employee of the Pine Forest Country Club and a member of the Faith Chapel Congregation Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Thomas.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and David Williams of Jesup, Kitty and Billy Starling of Jesup; two sisters, Willene Fincher of Hazlehurst and Jennell Barlow of Blackshear; two brothers and sisters-in-law, W.C. and Valdese Yawn of Hazlehurst and Rev. T.F. and Ellen Yawn of Alma; four grandchildren, Jeffery David Williams, Denise W. Crews, Tammy S. Thornton and Andrew W. Williams; six great-grandchildren, Victoria Williams, Abigail Williams, Jeffrey David Williams, Jacob M. Thornton, Jordan Chase Thornton and William “Will” Crews and three step great-grandchildren, Pebbles C. Bargeron, Dana Crews and Alicia Crews. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 27, 2005 from the chapel of Gordon Harrison Funeral Home with the Rev. James Carter and Rev. Robby Yawn officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Stacy Thornton, Andrew Williams, Vernon Crews, Grady W. “Buddy” Smith, Michael Murray, Darrell Thomas, Jacob Thornton, Chase Thornton and Blake Yawn.

Margurite Boatright

Margurite Boatright, age 90, of Alma, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, raised in the Coffee Community and daughter of the late Samuel Padgett and Mollie Boatright Padgett. Margurite was preceded in death by her husband, Quitman Boatright and four sisters, Pauline Drose, Malissa Gasi, Lillian Carter and Lois Miles. She graduated from Alma High School in 1932 and graduated from GA. Normal Business College in Douglas, GA. on June 25, 1934. She worked at the ASCS Office and County Commissioners Office in Alma for approximately 25 years.
She also worked for the Board of Registrars for 20 years and was appointed County Registrar of Vital Records for eight years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alma and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She served as a Pink Lady at the Bacon County Hospital for 10 years.
Survivors include a son, Danny (Judy) Boatright of Alma; three daughters, Jeanine (Del) Lamb of Savannah, Joan (G.C.) Herrington of Hazlehurst and Pamela (James) Baldwin of Alma; one sister, Johnnie Boatright of Blackshear and a brother S.J. Padgett of Daytona, Florida.
Survivors also include seven grandchildren, Donna (Edward) Tucker, Timothy (Beth) Lamb, Mitch (Sheila) Herrington, Rena (Russell) Beasley, Brandy (Randy) Smith, Danny “Bo” Boatright and Jamie (Jonathan) Waters; fifteen great-grandchildren, Shaun Thurmon, Jennifer Witherington, John and Lindsay Tucker, Meghan Fields, Jessalyn and Chloee Lamb, Erin, Shelby and Shey Herrington, Caleb and Grayson Beasley, Destiny, J.R. and Mark Smith and one great, great-grandchild, Emily Ann Thurmon.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Johnson and Rev. Shelton Rowell officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Daniel (Bo) Boatright, Mitch Herrington, Timothy Lamb, Billy Chancey, Stan Gasi, Sammy Carter, Buddy Miles and Melvin Waters. Cherea Diane Moore

Cherea Diane Moore, age 27, of Baxley, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 25, 2005 along with her beloved and cherished Yorkshire Terrier, Myles.
Cherea loved collecting old glass bottles and Indian Arrow heads, and rocks digging them up from around old abandoned homes, rivers and creeks in middle and south Georgia. Cherea was a lover of life and anyone who met her instantly fell in love with her witty comments, and her beautiful smile.
Cherea leaves behind her loving mother, Glorias Ann Williams Johnson and special friend Donnie Altman of Alma; father, John Earl (Carolyn) Moore of Baxley; paternal grandmother, Mary Kelley Baxley; brothers, Robert Earl Moore of Jacksonville, FL and John Tyler Moore of Baxley and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 28, 2005 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Carter officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Miles Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Eddie Crowe, Peter Marshall Lee, Rusty Altman, Ben Kay, David Collins and Doug Whitley. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
