Pearlie Swindle
Pearlie Swindle, age 86, Radio Station Road in Alma, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006 at her residence after a short illness.
She was a native of Coffee County and had lived in Alma since 1947. Pearlie was daughter of the late Edward D. Taylor and Nancy Nettles Taylor and wife of the late James Alvin Swindle. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. and Richard Taylor.
She was owner and operator of Pineview Florist for many years and a charter member of The Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy (Juanita) Swindle of Byron; two daughters, Vonice (Bobby) Stewart of Alma and Sherry (Ralph) Aycock of Baxley; a brother, Trenton Taylor of Orange Park, Florida and three sisters, Alma Chaney and Addie Crews, both of Blackshear and Valree Miller of Savannah. Also 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 2, 2006 at The Church of the Nazarene, 20th Street, with Rev. Mark Barth officiating and a personal eulogy by grandson Barry Swindle.

Active pallbearers were grandsons, Barry, Bart and Steve Swindle, Rocky Franz, Aaron Robles, Wayne Varnadore, Keith, Kevin and Ken Wade. Honorary pallbearers were Reba Deen, Norma Taylor, Mary Gray, Doretha Taylor, Barbara Spires, Eloise Aldridge, Beckie Potts and Verlene Burkett. Also, Ladies of the Nazarene Church were considered as honorary escorts.

Carolyn Daniel
Carolyn Daniel, age 51, of Cumming, Georgia passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Coffee County, but had lived in Cumming, Georgia for the past 31 years. She is preceded in death by her Mother, Lucille Tanner Johnson. Carolyn was secretary for 20 years at Johnson Paving Company before retiring.
Survivors include her father, Carroll Johnson of Alma; husband, Larry Daniel of Cumming; one daughter, Melissa Daniel of Cumming and two sisters, Jackie Pickering of Dawsonville, Georgia and Jan Tinsley of Hazlehurst.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Lee officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Archie Boatright, Jamie Boatright, Leslie Cothern, Ervin Johnson, Howard Johnson and Deano Mosley. All those in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Wendell Devon Braddy
Wendell Devon Braddy, age 81, of Douglas Georgia passed away on Friday, March 31, 2006 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas Georgia.
Mr. Braddy, a native of Montgomery County, Georgia was born March 19, 1925, Son of the late Estus Devon and Lelia Beatty Braddy. His Church Membership was at Douglas First Baptist Church. He was owner/operator of Braddy Auto Parts for 32 years. He was a member of the Shriners and a 32nd Degree Mason, served as Grand Master, Eastern Star two terms, Taught RA’s for two Years at First Baptist and a member of the Coffee Squares for many years. He enjoyed witnessing to small children and all who would listen. Son, Myron Devon Braddy preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife of 61 years, Helen Allmond Braddy of Douglas; daughter Barbara Ann Braddy (J.T.) Taylor of Alma; son, Daniel George Braddy of Douglas, daughter-in-law, Beth Braddy Smith of Douglas and grandchildren, Teresa Hart, Crystal Kirkland, Amanda Coffee, Saranan Grantham, Celeste Braddy, Danlyn Roberts, James Taylor, Jr., Mickey Braddy and Brad Taylor. Sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Douglas First Baptist Church with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Services also included Larry Lewis, soloist sang “The Anchor Holds” and the congregation sang “Amazing Grace” and Susie Kirkland provided soft music for the prelude and postlude. Burial followed in the Braddy Family cemetery in Montgomery County, Georgia.
Active pallbearers were Kevin Kirkland, Justin Hart, Lee Grantham, Chris Coffee, Mickey Braddy and Brad Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Williams Sunday School class.

Dorothy M. Gill
Dorothy M. Gill, age 76, of Nicholls passed away Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Tift Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Gainesville, Florida but had lived in Nicholls since 1967. Dorothy was daughter of the late Herman Morgan and Irene Congleton Morgan.
Survivors include her husband, Gene A. Gill of Nicholls; four sons, Gary Gill and wife, Edith of Olive Branch, MS, Richard Henry of Columbus, Glen Gill and wife, Donna of Nicholls and Michael Gill and wife, Tina of Nicholls; one daughter, Donna Bonner and husband, Jimmy of Williston, FL; two brothers, Billy Morgan of Lakeland, FL and Tommy Morgan of Cape Canaveral, FL and two sisters, JoAnn Cawthon of Gainesville, FL and Mary Lee Howey of Lake City, FL. Fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
Graveside services were held Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Hall cemetery with Rev. Fred Morgan officiating.
Active pallbearers were Johnny Johnson, Wesley and Jimmy Gilliard, Cordie Rigby, Wade and Roger Streat. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Annie Merle Smith
Annie Merle Smith, age 90, of Alma passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Emory Minor and Nora Garder Minor and preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gantt Smith, a brother, Hubert Minor, two sisters, Dora Haynes and Margie Harrison. Merle was owner and operator of Smith Foodland for many years and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Sidney Smith and wife, Sandra of Mershon; a daughter, Paula Smith and husband, Gary of Homosassa, Florida; three grandchildren, Nancy Malphurs of Dallas, Texas, Meg Harter of Allendale, South Carolina and Gregory Smith of Petersburg, New Jersey and five great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday March 26, 2006 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Taylor and Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

James M. Cole
James M. Cole, age 67, of Nicholls passed away suddenly at his residence Friday, March 24, 2006.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Bill Cole and Willie Mae Tanner Cole and preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Cole. James was a retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 29 years and a member of the Evangelistic Association.
Survivors include his wife, Latrelle Rowell Cole of Nicholls and children, James Richie Cole and wife, Sandra of Nicholls and Pamela Gay Heaton and husband, Ken of Haymarket, Virginia; one brother, Edwin (Buddy) Cole of Nicholls and one sister, Rosie McRorie of Brunswick.
Three grandchildren Hilary Cole of Douglas, Colby and Miranda Batten of Haymarket, Virginia and a step granddaughter, Candace Spivey of Nicholls.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 28, 2006 from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Dwayne Tanner and Lowell Lee officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Roberts Cemetery.

Karen Gruber
Karen Gruber, age 48, of Baxley passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006 at her residence.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County. She was a 1976 graduate of Appling County High School. She was employed by Hazlehurst Mills for over 28 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Randall Gruber and Mavis Pearce Gruber.
Survivors include three sisters, Jaqueta Maddox of Dublin, Jaunita Parkerson of Plant City, Florida and Charlene Carter of Baxley and six brothers, Willard Gruber, Jerry Gruber, Roderick Gruber and David Gruber, all of Baxley, Clyde Gruber of Alma and Charles “Ronnie” Gruber of Hazlehurst. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

David C. Steedley
David C. Steedley, age 81, of Sweetwater Road, North Augusta, South Carolina, passed away Monday, March 27, 2006.
Mr. Steedley was a native of Alma, Georgia, having made North Augusta his home for the past 58 years. He was a member of the Sweetwater Baptist Church, Church cemetery Committee, Briggs Sunday School Class and the Joy Choir. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Mr. Steedley received two Purple Hears and was a Charter Member of the Mendel Rivers Post #44 Disabled American Veterans. He was retired from the E.I. DuPont Company at the Savannah River Plant, a member of the North Augusta Country Club and a former member of the North Augusta Optismist Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae McCarty Steedley; a son and daughter-in-law, David Monte Steedley and Twyla Tuten of North Augusta; a daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Randy Cannon of North Augusta; three grandchildren, Karen Roberts, Shannon Nicole Herman and Twyla Wofford and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Aubrey L. Steedley of Albany, Georgia and Amos W. Steedley of North Augusta and a sister, Argent Corbett of Ray City, Georgia.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from Sweetwater Baptist Church with Dr. Paul W. Noe officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Sweetwater cemetery with Military Honors.

Ida Ruis, age 84, of Alma passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 in the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late John Ruis and Lizzie Cain Ruis and preceded in death by a brother, James Ward Ruis and a sister, Carolina Holland. Ida was of the baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Minnie Lee Landrum of Alma and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 18, 2006 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Turner and Rev. Lowell Lee officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Old Pine Grove cemetery.

Tommy Clay ‘Bo’ Hayes
Tommy Clay “Bo” Hayes, age 48, of Nicholls passed away suddenly at his residence Sunday, March 19, 2006.
He was a native of Bacon County. Bo was preceded in death by his mother, Nadine Rigdon Hayes. He was a truck driver owner and operator leased to Jeffery Anderson Trucking. Bo also attended Mims Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father, Emmitt Hayes of Nicholls; one daughter, Danielle Batten of Nicholls; two brothers, Randy Hayes and wife, Londie of Nicholls and Andy Hayes of Nicholls; two sisters, Julie Lavender and husband, Tim of Nicholls and Jill Baskin and husband Levi of Nicholls; a nephew, Andrew Hayes and two nieces Tiffany Hayes and Kimmie Lavender, all of Nicholls.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 21, 2006 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Fred James, Rev. Bill Murray and Rev. R.B. Gaskins officiating.
