Robert C. Saunders
Robert C. Saunders, age 63, of Palatka, Florida passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine following a brief illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Putnam County, he worked as a technician with Florida Pest Control for the past six years. He previously owned and operated Busters Wholesale Produce from 1961-2000.
Robert was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Palatka, where he had been active in the Trinity United Methodist Men. He had also been a member of the Azalea City Kiwanis Club, the Putnam County Shrine Club, The York Rite Body, the Morocco Shrine Temple in Jacksonville, Palatka Masonic Lodge #34 F&AM, as well as, the DeMolay years ago. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Robert had also bee a member of the Honey Hill Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Shirley S. Saunders of Palatka; two daughters, Kim (Britt) Waldron of Fruit Cove and Dana Saunders of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Mary (Floyd) Johnson of Palatka; granddaughter, Brittny Waldron of Fruit Cove and a grandson, Bradley Waldron.
Services were held Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Gene Maddox officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill cemetery.

Darren Douglas, Jr.
Darren Douglas, Jr. age 18, of Baxley passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a native of Utah but had lived most of his life in Baxley.
Survivors include his father, James Darren Douglas, Sr. of Baxley; mother, Kimberly Albritton of Baxley; stepfather, Danny Shipes of Baxley; fiancé, Korrin Martinez of Baxley; son, Landon Douglas of Baxley; two sisters, Crystal and Jessica Douglas, both of Baxley; paternal grandparents, James Douglas and Wylene Kelly; maternal grandparents, Wiley and Sharon Albritton of Baxley and maternal great-grandfather, Dewey Garner, Sr. of Mershon.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Park officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Roxie Mae Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Danny Shipes, Glenn and David Lassiter, Wiley and Billy Albritton and Tommy Garner. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Donnie LaVan Streat, Jr.
Donnie LaVan Streat, Jr., age 27, was found Thursday (March 9, 2006) in the northern part of Ware County.
He was a native of Ware County, but lived most of his life in Nicholls, GA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Black and P.L. Streat.
He was employed as a machinist with CSX Railroad. He attended Bickley United Methodist Church and as a child he attended Nicholls Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Van and Carrie Streat of Nicholls, Kevis and Wanda Bennett of Douglas; three sisters, Robin Streat Carrin (husband Michael) of Blackshear, Kelly Streat Lastinger (husband Seab) of Douglas, Hannah Streat of Nicholls; a brother, Garrett Streat of Nicholls; fiancée, Kelli Deen of Nicholls and two grandmothers, Louise Black of St. Mary’s, and Grace Streat of Nicholls.
A graveside service was held Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 3 p.m. at Meeks cemetery in Nicholls.
June Wylette Taylor
June Wylette Taylor, age 70, passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 at her residence.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Ruben Lacey and Ivos Leggett Lacey and was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. Taylor, Jr., a brother, W.A. Lacey, two sisters, Peggy Lynch and Mary Jo Leggon.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Gordon and husband Leonard of Conyers, Georgia; one sister, Loretta Pollard of Winter Haven, Florida; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Chapel Church cemetery with Rev. Lowell Lee officiating.

Gwendolyn Darnell Welch
Gwendolyn Darnell Welch, age 65, of Alma passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County, daughter of the late Frank Smith and Cleo Crosby Smith and preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Jarrard and a sister, Joy Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Flippo and husband, Jeff of North Carolina and Helena DeLacy of Texas; one brother, Butch Smith of Mershon and a sister, Patsy Smith Roberts of St. Simons Island, Georgia. Three grandchildren also survive.
Graveside service was held Friday, March 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Wesley Chapel cemetery with Rev. R.B. Gaskins officiating.

Lemuel ‘Chili’ Joiner
Lemuel “Chili” Joiner, age 78, of Perry, Georgia passed away at Serenity Gate on Sunday, March 5, 2006.
Mr. Joiner, born in Mitchell County and the son of James Lee and Mary Moye Thomas, had lived in Perry since 2004. He attended Grace Church and was a charter member of College Place United Methodist Church in Brunswick. Mr. Joiner was a retired Chemical Engineer with Hercules Powder Company in Brunswick and was President of the Chemical Worker's Union. As a US Navy WW11 Veteran, he was an amateur boxer. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lamar Joiner, Kenneth Joiner, and Rickey Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Itaska W. Joiner of Perry; three daughters, 1SG Sandra Belesia Joiner of Anniston, Alabama, Debra Joiner Willis (Jerry) of Perry, and Tonya Joiner Ducey (Fred) of Columbia, South Carolina; brother, Wayne Thomas of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Richard Howard Moore, Michelle Reynolds, and Matthew Ducey; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Anne Moore and Sydney Hunter Raines; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home with Rev. Ed McMinn officiating.

Ella M. Taylor Crawford
Ella M. Taylor Crawford, age 84, of Hazlehurst passed away Thursday, March 09, 2006 in the Jeff Davis hospital.
Mrs. Crawford was a native of Pierce County. She was the daughter of the late Jack Taylor and Sara Ellis Taylor and the wife of the late Hugh D. Crawford. Mrs. Crawford was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Virginia Metz of Alma; Francis Collins of Uvalda, Sylvia Crawford, Shirley Hayward and Karon Swanger of Hazlehurst and Joann Ramilo of San Diego, California; sons, Bobby Crawford of Baxley, Robert Crawford of Lumber City, Ronald Crawford of Brunswick and David Crawford of Hazlehurst; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Clara Taylor of Grantville, South Carolina and Ruth Lee of Alma and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Miles Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Wiggins officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Hazlehurst Memorial cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Donald Dixon, Russell Merritt, Joshua Hayward, Jacob Hayward, Leon Crawford, Carroll Summerall, Jr. and Richard Lord. Everyone in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers.

Lois Eudelle (Mom) Barnes Owens
Loise Eudelle (Mom) Barnes Owens, age 72 passed away on March 4, 2006.
Mrs. Barnes was born on July 13, 1934 in Alma Bacon County Georgia to the late Author Barnes and Lassie Monroe Barnes. She attended the public schools of Bacon County and received her GED in 1971 in Waycross, Georgia Vocational School. She met and married
in the late Aaron Owens and to this union two children were born.
Sis Owens was a lifelong member of First African Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the Senior Choir until her health began to fail. She was employed with Atlantic Home Health until her illness.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Owens, her mother, Lassie Barnes; her father, Author Barnes; two brothers, Bardy Barnes and Darrell Barnes and one sister, Norma Jean Brinson.
Survivors include a son, James Kenneth Owens; a daughter, Joyce Elaine Owens Grady, both of Alma; two stepsons, Aaron Owens Swinson of Tulsa Oklahoma and James Preston of Alma; one stepdaughter, Valarie Preston of Douglas; two grandsons, Latodric Sebastion (Charlene) Grady of Jacksonville, Florida and Antonio Pedro (Jamie) Owens of Waycross; three granddaughters, Kwanza Owens (Ryan) Reynolds and Victoria Owens Deen of Alma and Lacy Owens of Waycross; one stepgrandson, Charles Swinson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Latavius, Latodric, Aaron, Latodric, Jr. and Manquise Grady, all of Jacksonville, Florida, Emanuel and Tyron Deen, Kaitlyn and India Reynolds, all of Alma; four sisters, Bernice Miley, Runez (Fred) Bradley of Alma, Elvira Peyton of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Vertie Mae Lenard of Miami, Florida; one brother, Benny Barnes of Tocma Park, Maryland, a very special niece, Linda Sue O’Neal and a special nephew, Markeish Wilkinson, both of Alma; four sisters-in-law, Nora Barnes of Winsburg, South Carolina, Ruby Faye Barnes of Douglas, Blanche (J.C.) Mallory of Waycross and Ruthie Mae (Burnette) McGee of Jacksonville, Florida and three brothers-in-law, Paul (Carrie Pearl) Owens, Leroy Owens and Lenoard Owens, all of Brunswick. A host of nieces, nephews and other relative and friends survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First African Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Stephon Deen officiating.
Active pallbearers were Quasis Barnes, Travis Brinson, Stacey Barnes, Markeish Wilkinson, Pastor Keith Brinson, Rusty Stewart, Sammy McMorris and Rodney Batton. Honorary pallbearers were Hugh Larry Boatright, Gregory Hugh Boatright and Deacons of First African Baptist Church.

Katherine Taylor
Katherine Taylor, age 89, of Alma passed away Monday, February 27, 2006 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Dodge County but had lived most of her life in Bacon County. Katherine was daughter of the late Walter Spivey and Lillie Clark Spivey and preceded in death by her husbands, Charlton Meeks and Alfred Lee Taylor, Sr., a daughter, Norene Sellers, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, James and Alvin Meeks, both of Alma; two daughters, Merle Stokes of Alma and Florence Rigby of Nicholls; four stepchildren, Junior Taylor of West Green, Georgia, Geraldine Smith of Nicholls, Lorine Bookout of Douglas and Irene Taylor of Miami, Florida; one brother, Bill Spivey of Alma; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Also several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Lee and Rev. Richard Lewis officiating.

Roy Eugene Lawson
Roy Eugene Lawson, age 43, of Nicholls passed away Saturday, March 04, 2006 at Wesley Woods Hospice Care in Atlanta, Georgia after an extended illness.
He was a native of Dade County, Florida, and son of the late Judith Lee LoFrisco and Roy L. Lawson and preceded in death by his grandparents Everett Eugene Russell and Irene Varnedore Russell.He was a member of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his step-father Weems (Worm) Simmons of Nicholls; one brother, Michael Boyer of Florida and one Aunt Linda Joseph of Newnan, Georgia.
iIntermentafter cremation will be held at Forest Grove Cemetery.
