Ella Yvonne Nelson Hardy
Ella Yvonne Nelson Hardy, 57, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at her residence in Alma following a short illness.
She was a native of Coffee but resided most of her life in Alma. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Nelson and Ella Mae White Nelson. She was an employee of the Nutrition Food Service Program at Bacon County Primary School. She was a member of New Grant Chapel in Waycross, Usher of the Church, the Pastor’s Aide President and the Ladies On A Mission.
The survivors include her husband, William Hardy, of Alma; a daughter, Carla D. Hardy, of Alma; four sisters, Josephine Collins, of Blackshear, Clara Harris, of Mershon, June Nelson and Cynthia Nelson, both of Alma; two brothers, Benny Nelson, of Pelham, Carl Nelson, of Harrisburg, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2006 at New Grant Chapel. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Music Funeral Home Thursday night, May 25, 2006 from 5-8 p.m.

Floyd Jimmie Crews
Floyd Jimmie Crews, age 61, of Alma passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at his residence.
He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Floyd Crews and Thelma Thomas Crews Taylor.
Jimmie was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert and L.G. Crews, James Albert Taylor, Jeff Taylor and Buddy Taylor and one sister, Helon Doby. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include five daughters, Felmer Jean Campbell, Lynn Morris and Camilla Furches, all of Morganton, NC, Beverly Conner of Lake Lure, NC and Renea Dalrymple of Summerville, GA; one brother, Wayne Taylor of Baxley and four sisters, Linda Pritchett of Alma, Irene Sutton of Clewiston, FL, Dora Turner and Joyce Hayes, both of Fairview Heights, IL.
Fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive.
Graveside services with Military Honors were held Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Rose Hill cemetery with Rev. Calvin Lewis officiating.

Charles Devin Streat
Charles Devin Streat, age 26 of Jacksonville, Florida passed away May 7, 2006 in a boating accident.
Mr. Streat was born May 26, 1979 in Jacksonville, Florida to Charles Clifton Streat and the former Debbie Meeks.
In addition to his parents, survivors include wife of four years Stacey Streat; sister, Cameron (Scott) Morrow; grandparents, Bill (Jean) Meeks and Odessa Street and numerous family and friends.
Funeral services were held on May 11, 2006 at West Jacksonville Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Kelly officiating. The interment followed at 4 p.m. at Meeks cemetery in Nicholls, Georgia.
Pallbearers were Merritt Meeks, Bill Meeks, Wendell Streat, Brian Streat, Chris Poole and Adam Crews.
Arrangements entrusted to Prestwood Funeral Home in Baldwin, Florida and Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the local arrangements.
Jerry Ronald Edmonds
Jerry Ronald Edmonds, age 61, of Waycross passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Hospice LaGrange after an extended illness.
He was a native of Cabell County, West Virginia and son of the late Benton Edmonds. Jerry began his railroad career in West Virginia and moved to Waycross in 1988 where he retired from CSX Railroad in July 2005. He served as Vice President of Union at Railroad International Association of Machinist, Local Lodge 625 Trustee- AFL-CIU, Councilman on Democratic Party and a member of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his mother, Mildred Evelyn Perry Edmonds Wall; one son, Mike Edmonds and wife Beth of LaGrange; One daughter, Christal Uldridge and husband Rob of Nashville, Tennessee; one sister, Brenda and husband Bob; three grandchildren, Skyler and Savannah Edmonds of LaGrange and Taren Uldridge of Nashville, Tennessee and many loving nieces and nephews. He was also survived by a large loving family in West VA.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 7, 2006 from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Allgood and Rev. Donny Young officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Hazel Carter
Hazel Carter, age 88, of Alma passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was a native of Appling County, but had lived in Bacon County since 1935. Hazel was daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Crosby and Hattie Cleo Lynch Crosby.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alton Carter four brothers, A.J., Bobby, Bill and Walton Crosby, three sisters, Christine White, Maggie Crosby and Oveda LaBell.
Survivors include one brother, J.L. Crosby of Tampa, Florida and two very special nephews, Jerry and David Crosby of Alma.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 6, 2006 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Lewis and Rev. Jimmy Boatright officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Satilla Baptist Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Darren Lee, Scott and Matthew Hennesy, Christopher Crosby, Trent Scott and Scotty Scott. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Joe Lee Holmes, Sr.
Joe Lee Holmes, Sr. of Alma, passed away April 28, 2006.
Mr. Holmes was born on February 13, 1966 to Mrs. Eloise Brinson and the late Freddie Lee Holmes, Jr. He was the grandson of Thelma Adams. He attended Bacon County High School. Joe was employed by Jerry’s Trucking Company in Alma and Banks Construction in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Darlene Holmes of Orangeburg, South Carolina; two sons, Joe Lee Holmes, Jr. and Demetrius Johnson, both of Orangeburg, South Carolina; two daughters, Tammy Holmes of Orangeburg, South Carolina and Layoda Harrison of Alma; one grandson, Martinous O’neal of Alma; four sisters, Jeannette Holmes, Annette (Lewis) Alston and Veronica Holmes of Alma and Saronda (Jimmy) Nobles of Baxley; two brothers, Leron Brinson and Freddie Lee Holmes of Alma; nine nephews, three nieces, seven aunts, one special friend, Mary Jane Prezzy of Orangeburg, South Carolina and a host of cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Evangelistic Church with Rev. Stephon Deen presiding, Pastor Norris Williams, Sr. with the invocation; scriptures read by Rev. carl Marion and Rev. Stephon Deen; Sister Louise Keitt sang a solo; expressions were made by Sister Mary Jane Prezzy and the Eulogy was read by Elder L.J. Jordan. iIntermentfollowed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Lavada Holbrook Taylor
Lavada Holbrook Taylor, age 85, of Alma passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was a native of Sumrall, MS, but had lived in Bacon County since 1973. Lavada was daughter of the late Luther Pittman and Ina Taylor Pittman and preceded in death by her husband Samuel Thomas (S.T.) Holbrook, three brothers and two sisters. Lavada was a member of Douglas Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Nobles and husband Jimmy of Alma; four grandchildren, Suzanne Sweat, Tim Nobles and wife Lisa, Connie Johnson and husband Greg and Lara Hayes and husband Joe, all of Alma; 10 great-grandchildren and special friends, Emmett and Stephanie Trowell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2, 2006 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Ray and Rev. Odis Beal officiating.

Minnie Lee Landrum
Minnie Lee Landrum, age 84, of Alma passed away Friday, April 28, 2006 in the Bacon County Hospital after an short illness.
She was a native of Camden County, daughter of the Frank Smith and Ella Smith. Minnie was preceded in death by her husbands, James Ward Ruis and Eddie Landrum; a brother, Everett Smith; six sisters, Lizzie Roberson, Della Varnedore, Jessie Mae Stewart, Cora Crowder, Magdalena Davis, Ocie Lee McQuaig; a son-in-law, Neil Wilbanks and a great-grandchild, Holly Rochelle Lee.
She was a member of the New Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, J. Frank Ruis and wife Pasty of Alma; five daughters, Lucille Wilbanks, Laverne Dyal and husband Edgar, Mary Frances Meeks and husband Alvin, Dollie Lee and husband Donnie, Pauline Bagley and husband Bobby, all of Alma and one sister, Myrtle Dyal of Alma.
Nineteen grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and seven great, great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 30, 2006 at New Union Baptist Church with Rev. Marvin Smith, Rev. Lowell Lee, Rev. Skip Wells and Rev. Jimmy Thrift officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Old Pine Grove.

Troy Johnson
Troy Johnson, age 75, of Alma passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late William Harvey Johnson and Minnie Buckins Johnson. Troy was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Rigdon Johnson, daughter, Jackie Douglas, granddaughter, Nicole Stone, four brothers and four sisters. He was a member of Wesley Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church and retired farmer.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Stone and husband Terrell of Nicholls; one brother, Pete Johnson of Nicholls; a sister, Mary Lee Prestwood of Haines City, Florida; three grandchildren, JoElla Dixon and Tracy Stone, both of Nicholls and Stephanie Wade of Alma and one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Wade of Alma.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Wesley Chapel Church with Rev. T.F. Yawn, Rev. Jr. Hayes, Rev. J.M. Rigdon and Rev. Danny Turner officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Wolf Pit Cemetery.

Betty M. Futch
Betty M. Futch, age 62, of Douglas passed away Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Coffee Regional Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Coffee County, daughter of the Leo Gilliard and Mildred Rowell Gilliard. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Futch, a daughter, Joy Anita Thomas and a brother, Edward Gilliard. She was a member of Dry Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Alton Thomas of Douglas, Dale Thomas and wife Amanda of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Scott Thomas of Rincon, Georgia and one daughter, Robin Bacon and husband Brad of Rincon, Georgia. Fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Dry Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Futch and Rev. Howard Holt officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Hall Cemetery.
