Edith Beatrice Jordan Cole Gray
Edith Beatrice Jordan Cole Gray, age 87, of Nicholls passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Twin Oaks Nursing after an
extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County and daughter of the late Stephen Randall Jordan and Edith Eugenia Carter Jordan. Edith was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Leon Cole and son, Jimmy Cole.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Gray, Sr. of Nicholls and two sons, Johnny L. Cole of Jacksonville, Florida and Royce Cole and wife Tony of San Antonia, of Texas. Daughter-in-law, Nina Bryant and husband Terry of Alma. Five grandchildren, Jamey Cole of Savannah, Amy Smith and husband Alton of Alma. Tammy Horton and husband Jeffrey of Statesboro, Gregory and Jonathan Cole both of San Antonia, TX. Three great-grandchildren, Jackson Hall, Cole Smith and Olivia Horton.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 9, 2006 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Rentz and Rev. L.G. Aldridge officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Roberts Cemetery.
Nephews served as active pallbearers. Twin Oaks Nursing Home and all those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Angel Chavez Grady
Master Angel Chavez Grady the son of Elida B. Chavez and Lamourie N. Grady passed away on June 2, 2006 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Antero Loredo.
He is survived by his mother Elida B. Chavez of Alma; his father, Lamourie N. Grady of Alma; a brother, Ramon, Gonzalez of Alma. Paternal grandparents: Rhonda Grady of Nicholls and Ronald Barfields of Atlanta; step-grandfather, Rodney Woodbury of Nicholls; maternal grandparents: Columbia Hernandez of Houston, Texas and step-grandfather Miguel Hernandez of Houston, Texas.
Graveside funeral service for Master Angel Chavez Grady was held Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the Nicholls City cemetery in Nicholls, Georgia with Rev. Rouche officiating with interment in Nicholls City cemetery in Nicholls, Georgia.

James Tristan Carter
James Tristan Carter, seven month old son of Michael and Misty King Carter of Patterson passed away suddenly, Sunday, June 4, 2006 in Blackshear.
He was born in Wayne County but lived in Patterson.
He is survived by his parents Michael and Misty Carter of Patterson; four brothers, Tyler Carter of Brunswick, Levi, Troy, and Eli Carter, all of Patterson; his grandparents, Edward and Teressa King of Patterson, Cathy King and Garland Turner of Blackshear, Bobby and Lisa Nipper of Blackshear and Jamie Carter of Denton; great-grandparents, Albert and Audrey Spell of Alma and Marguerette Thompson of Blackshear and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Offerman Church of God. Burial will be in the Enon Cemetery.

Minnie Mae Sue Clay Mathews
Minnie May Sue Clay Mathews passed away June 5, 2006.
Minnie Mae Sue Clay Mathews was the youngest child of Thomas and Tillie Clay, both deceased, born March 16, 1940 at Holden, West Virginia. She graduated from Logan High School in Logan, West Virginia in 1958. She is the wife of Herman Lee Mathews, a wonderful husband, friend and father. She has four children; two daughters, Denise Mathews and Melissa Ann Mathews Lamb and two sons, David Lee Mathews and Dustin Jenkins Mathews; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild that is expected in October; four sisters, Izetta Broughton, Vivian Summerall, Maltie Sharp (now deceased), and Regina Kelly; two brothers, Henry Clay and James Clay and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Clay.
Her final words to her family that is left behind is to live right in the sight of God, if you aren’t right with God, then today would be a good time to be saved. She is at peace with her God. She was a loving wife, friend, mother, grandmother and to be a great-grandmother, sister, sister in Christ and neighbor. She was loved and admired by her family and friends.
The family will miss her, but they look forward to meeting her in Heaven.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Yarborough officiating. Burial will be Friday, June 9, 2006 in the afternoon in Tampa, Florida.
Collie Hill, Jr.
Collie Hill, Jr., age 65, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Friday, June 2, 2006 at the Donalsonville Hospital.
Mr. Hill was born in Decatur County on December 21, 1940 to the late Collie, Sr., and Evelyn Gause Hill. He lived in Donalsonville all his life, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Donalsonville. He was active in Bethany Baptist Church in Brinson, GA where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Worked with the Eagle Scouts and was Scout Master for 10 years or more with Troup 509. An active with activities in the Class of 1958. He was employed by Duncan Electric Company for 38 years where he served as project manager for 30 years. As well a member of the National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He served as President of the Georgia Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Saundra Sawyer Hill; two daughters, Fan Hill Matthews and her husband Glen of Bainbridge, GA; Deon Hill Tucker and her husband Jim of Alma, GA; two sons Eddie Hill and his wife Melba of Donalsonville, GA and Randy Hill of Bainbridge, GA;
three grandchildren Ashley, Garrett and Austin Matthews and two brothers, Kenneth Hill and his wife Joan of Rome, GA and Johnny Hill and his wife Faye of Donalsonville, GA. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Edwena Hill Peterson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Bethany Baptist Church in Brinson, GA with Dr. Ron McCaskill, Rev. Zack Worsham and Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating, iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.

Latrecia (Tessy) Carter
Latrecia (Tessy) Carter Davis, age 34, of Hazlehurst passed away suddenly at her residence on July 3, 2006.
She was a native of Bacon County, but had lived in Nicholls for many years before moving to Jeff Davis County where she lived for the past eleven years. Tessy was a member of Elim Holiness Church.
Survivors include her parents, Roger Carter and Sue C. Carter of Nicholls, her husband, Jerrell Davis of Hazlehurst; one son, Joseph B. Davis of Hazlehurst; three stepsons, Justin, Jonathan and Caleb Davis. all of Hazlehurst; one stepdaughter, Tabatha Davis Carter of Macon; two brothers, Tracy Carter and wife Beth of Alma and Ricky D. Carter of Nicholls and special nieces and nephews, Joshua and Becky Carter and Courtney and Kayla Whitley.
Special friend, JoAnn Streat of Hazlehurst and several other nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 8, 2006 from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Faulkner, Rev. Denny Music and Rev. James Johnson officiating.

Vina Gwen Edwards
Vina Gwen Edwards, age 65 of Alma passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross after an extended illness. She was a wonderful, devoted, loving wife and mother. Vina was daughter of the late Leo Eldridge Garrett and Dorthy Newcomb Moser and was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Makayla Elizabeth Beverley and a very special loved one, Henry Silcox.
She was a member of New Hope Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Gaines Edwards; two sons, David Edwards and wife Sonya of Nicholls and Daniel Edwards and wife Sandy; a daughter, Debra Beverley and husband Bill of Waycross; a very special loved one, Florence Silcox of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; four sisters, Nettie Kenline of Indiana, Verla Shelton of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Rosemary Sweat of Waycross and Vivian Smith of Hammon, OK and six grandchildren, Amber, Dalton, Kyle and Kimberly Edwards, Will and Leanna Beverley.

Harold Stewart
Harold Stewart, age 72, of Alma, passed away, early Wednesday morning, August 9, 2006 peacefully in his sleep at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Julian H. Stewart and Eula Butler Stewart. Harold was an executive with Richards and Associates and retired with them after 39 years of employment. He was a deacon and member of Dry Creek Baptist Church in Nicholls and had served in the U. S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Velma Boatright Stewart of Alma. Three sons; Joseph Stewart of Douglas, 2nd Lt. Chris Stewart and wife Shannon of Alma and Jeffrey Stewart of Alma. A brother, Johnny Stewart of Dixie Union. Two sisters; Maudine McIntyre of Alma and Monie Taylor of Savannah. Two grandchildren Katie and Alec Stewart both of Alma.
Funeral services were held Friday August 11, 2006 from Dry Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Gilliard and Rev. Jimmy Futch officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Stewart Cemetery

Pamela Gail Patterson
Pamela Gail Patterson, age 55, of Alma, passed away early Sunday morning, August 13, 2006 in the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County. Pam is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Medders Boatright and a brother, Walt Medders. She was a member of New Vision Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include her father, Winford (Wint) Boatright, her husband; Harry D. Patterson, one son; Will Patterson and wife Nicole, two brothers; Benny Boatright and wife Sandi and Dennis Boatright and wife Dora all of Alma, three sisters; Beth Taylor and husband Gary and Clara Towns and husband Kenneth all of Alma, and Michelle Orvin and husband Marty of Millen, two granddaughters; Faithy and Farrah Patterson of Alma. Also several nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday August 15, 2006 at New Vision Church with Rev. Pet Hayes, Rev. Vic Peacock, Dr. David Vaughn and Rev. R. B. Gaskins officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pinelawn Cemetery.

Evelyn Cranford Whidby
Evelyn Cranford Whidby, age 90, of Baxley passed Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Appling Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Whidby was born November 23, 1915 in Dodge County, but resided in Bacon County until moving to Baxley in 1978. She was a seamstress and member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Whidby; her parents, B.C. Cranford, Sr. and Eunice Taylor Cranford and her sister Velda Lewis.
Survivors include step daughter, Juanita Hinson of Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters Willie Mae McCall and Eloise Cranford both of Baxley; one brother B.C. Cranford, Jr. of Baxley. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, 2006 from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Glynn Cranford and Rev. Jay Meadows officiating. iIntermentwill follow ed in Miles Family Cemetery.
Active pallbearers included all friends in attendance.
