Alma Kimball Watson
STATESBORO -- Mrs. Alma Kimball Watson, age 86, of 408 Salters Mill Road, Americus, died early Saturday morning, April 17, 2004, at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro. Funeral services will be held from the graveside at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 19, at Oak Grove cemetery in Americus. The Reverend Mark Carter will officiate. Visitation will be held from 7 - 9 p.m. today, Sunday, April 18 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville.
Mrs. Watson was born July 5, 1917, in Emanuel County, the daughter of Rollin and Flora Kimball. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn T. Watson.
Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Helen and Bobby Miller of Ellaville, Genelle Adams of Statesboro and Joan Laird of West Point; and five grandchildren, Sheila Mancil of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Kim Pounds of Cairo, Robert Miller of Lake Blackshear, Chris Adams of Savannah and Brian Adams of Americus. Eight great-grandchildren also survive.

AMERICUS -- Graveside services for Mr. Arthur Lee Adams of 115 Rainbow Terrace, Americus, who passed on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, in the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, from the Andersonville National Cemetery. The Rev. Leon Pace will officiate and burial will follow immediately afterward. A wake is scheduled from 6 - 7 p.m. on Monday, April 19, from the Chapel of Barnum Funeral Home.
Mr. Arthur Lee Adams was born in Schley County on Oct. 1, 1939, to the parentage of the late Mr. Felton Adams and the late Mrs. Leomie Minter Adams.
Arthur, known as "Mr. Mutt" to family and friends, leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 38 years, Ms. Mary Louise Adams; a daughter, Ms. Deborah E. Turner; a step-son, Mr. Henry W. Williams; two sisters, Ms. Bobbie Jean Adams and Ms. Juanita Sampson; four grandchildren, Jamisha, Chanel, Alicia and Brian; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Kanova, Quelvious and Zaniyah; his mother-in-law, Ms. Gladys Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Gloria Burton Wishard
AMERICUS -- Mrs. Gloria Burton Wishard died Thursday afternoon April 15, 2004, at Magnolia Manor Retirement Center, 1001 S. Lee Street, Americus. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, from the Graveside at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Rodney Stamey officiated.
A visitation was held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday evening, April 16, at Aldridge Funeral Services. Mrs. Wishard was born the daughter of the late George Tillman Burton and Ethel Mae Acker Burton on Oct. 12, 1928, in Sumter County. Mrs. Wishard was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church, a homemaker and an avid golfer.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Sally Rochefert of Kennesaw and Bonnie Machek and her husband Jack of Lakeland, Fla.; sister, Barbara Thomas on Smithville; one brother and sister-in-law, George Burton Jr. and his wife Martha of Albany; five grandchildren also survive, Elizabeth, Ivey, Seth, John Paul and Brian. Also surviving is a nephew, Burton Thomas and a niece, Julie Pantone. Mrs. Wishard was preceded in death by her husband, Burr Thomas Wishard in 1990.

Fred Rodolph Usry Sr.
AMERICUS -- Mr. Fred R. Usry Sr., age 80, died Wednesday night, April 7, 2004 at Sumter Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Cheek Memorial Baptist Church with burial to follow in County Line Baptist Church cemetery in Macon County.
Officiating will be the Rev. Houston Berry and the Rev. Tommy McConnell. Active pallbearers will be deacons of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church, Stan Folsom, Jim Wilson, Bobby Hester, John Southwell, Donald Ritch, Pete Ellis, Heywood Jerkins, Marty VanHorn and Bobby Kirk. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
A native of Schley County, Mr. Usry was born Dec. 15, 1923, a son of the late Joshua Franklin Usry and Alma Willis Usry. He was the retired owner of Usry's Paint and Body Shop, and a member of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, April 9, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. At other times friends may call at the family residence, 412 Peggy Anne Drive. Memorial contributions may be made to Cheek Memorial Baptist Church, 1505 Macon Road, Americus, GA 31709.
Survivors include six daughters and five sons-in-law, Sheila and Melvin Jones of Ideal, Sharon Lee Gallops of St. Marks, Fla., Selene and Jerry Sellers of Brunswick, Sonja and Robert Montgomery of Smithville, Lisa and Buddy Law, Leah and Buster Watson, all of Americus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred Jr. and Barbara Usry of Americus and Brad and Debbie Usry of Albany. Three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barbara Tatum of Macon, Joan and Sonny Coker of Gray, Elizabeth and Rainey Reid of Moultrie; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Franklin and Gladys Usry of Americus, Douglas and Geraldine Usry of Ellaville, Willie and Myrtis Usry of Americus, Britt and Cindy Usry of Ariton, Ala. and Jimmy and Judy Usry of Hampton, Va. Twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. His wife, Gholye Usry preceded him in death April 4, 1997. A brother, Millard Usry, also preceded him in death.

Zelle Ross Askew Rowland
COLUMBUS -- Zelle Ross Askew Rowland, 88, of Columbus, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Columbus Hospice House.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Parkhill cemetery in Columbus with the Rev. Steve King officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rowland was born on Nov. 16, 1915 in Americus, the daughter of the late James H. Ross Sr. and Ozella Roberts Ross.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Wallace Askew, her second husband, Raymond M. Rowland, her parents, her sister, Eleanor Ross Littlefield, her brothers, James and Bivins (Bit) Ross, her nephew, John Littlefield, and niece, Martha Jim Norton.
She was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College and Auburn University. She began teaching school at age 18 in Folkston. She went on to teach school at Furlow Grammar School in Americus. In 1953, she moved to Columbus and taught at Rosehill Elementary School for two years.
She moved to Gentian Elementary School when it opened in 1956 and taught third grade at Gentian for many years. She left Gentian to be a reading specialist at the Reading Center. She was selected by Dr. Braxton Nail to be one of the first psychometrists in the newly organized testing program in the Muscogee County School District. She served in this position until her retirement in 1977.
She was a charter member of the M.E.A. Federal Credit Union in 1961. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, the Muscogee Retired Teachers Association, and the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Gentian Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Linda Askew of Columbus; a daughter and son-in-law; Nancy and Joe Davenport of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Loree Rowland of Kennesaw; granddaughters and their spouses, LeAnn Askew LaFollette and Tommy E. LaFollette III of Columbus; Karen Davenport Gilstrap and Tommy Gilstrap of Ft. Worth, Texas; Brook Rowland Erwin and Chris Erwin of Acworth; and Bobbie Joe Gillam and Marcus Gillam of Decatur; a grandson, Michael Davenport of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Madison LaFollette, Maria Gilstrap, Gretchen, Alan and Evan Erwin, and Mya, Markia and Marcus Gillam Jr.; sister-in-law, Mattie Will McLeod; niece, Bess Spear; nephews, James Ross (Jim) Littlefield of Americus and Joseph Littlefield of Titusville, Fla.

AMERICUS -- Grayce H. "Money" Plummer, 90, of Magnolia Manor, Americus died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 12, at Kimbrell-Stern with interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Robert J. Beckum will officiate.
A native of Monroeville, Ala., Mrs. Plummer had lived in Albany before moving to Americus. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Albany and was also a charter member and Sunday School teacher of Murray Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. and Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany.
She was also a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Albany. She retired as office manager from Drs. Fountain and Rawls. She was a Red Cross Gray Lady, a member of the Albany Women's Club, the Albany Garden Club and the Optimist Club. She was a member of the Doublegate Country Club and the Women's Golf Association at Doublegate.
Survivors include her husband, George B. Plummer of Americus; two daughters, Linda P. Mansfield, and her husband, Tommy of Hendersonville, Tenn., Cindi P. Weatherly and her husband, Neal Jr. of Watkinsville; two sons, Gene Plummer and his wife Patricia of Macon, Phillip Plummer and his wife Emily of Albany; a brother, Sidney Henderson of Sacramento, Calif., 17 grandchildren, Mark Plummer, Sheryl Trent, Susan Mason, Richard and Wesley Weekley, Chuck Mansfield, Gina Mansfield, Melissa Culross, Jeremy Mansfield, Phillip "Flip" Plummer Jr., Allyson Marchant, David Plummer, Jenifer Brown, Clint Cross, Chip Cross, Adrienne Sheffield, Aimee Adler; 25 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Carolyn M. Prince, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Henderson and a sister, Nora Shaw. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Plummer, 432 Audubon Drive and will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 on Thursday at Kimbrell-Stern.

SMITHS STATION, Ala. -- Helen Grigsby, 79, of Smiths Station, Ala. died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, in Evergreen Memory Gardens with the Reverend Steve Croft officiating, according to Stiffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Grigsby was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Americus, daughter of the late Calvin Bridges and Annie Mae Smith Bridges. She was a retired nurse with St. Francis Hospital and was a member of the Education Associates.
Survivors include her daughter, Easter (Charles) Altman of Columbus; a son, Wayne (Ruby) Franklin of Columbus; five grandsons; six great-grandsons; a brother, George Bridges of North Carolina; and a sister, Betty Mieinger of Baltimore, Md.

AUGUSTA -- Funeral services for Mrs. Corena Lembrick Edmonds of 147 Ginger Drive, Americus who passed on Friday, March 12, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the United Holiness Headquarters.
Bishop Wayne Babb will officiate and burial will follow in the Staley Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing of the body one hour prior to services at the church.
Mrs. Corena Lembrick Edmonds was on Jan. 29, 1944, born in Sumter County to the parentage of the late Mr. Arthur Lembrick and the late Mrs. Berdia Mae Hall Lembrick.
She leaves to mourn her passing, one son, Mr. Dallas Edmonds; five grandchildren; three sisters, Ms. Ozie (Florrel) Paschal, Ms. Pearline Lembrick and Ms. Berdia Winn; three brothers, Mr. Arthur Lembrick Jr. and friend Betty, Mr. John Lembrick and Mr. Carlton Lembrick; one step-sister, Ms. Susie Lee Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Johnson of Lonnie Lane, Americus who passed on Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Sumter Regional Hospital, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. The Rev. H.C. Wilson will officiate and burial will follow in the Eastview cemetery. There will be a viewing of the body one hour prior to services at the church.
Ms. Diane E. Johnson was bornon May 7, 1960, in Sumter County to the parentage of the late Mr. Ernest Josey and Mrs. Rosa Seay Johnson, who survives.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by several cousins, including Mr. James Brown, Ms. Catherine Volley and Ms. Willie Mae Davis and a host of other relatives, friends and her Mount Olive Church family.

Cecil Dodson
TAMPA, Fla. -- Mr. Cecil Dodson, 98, died in Tampa, Fla., on Monday morning, March 15, 2004. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Plains Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Lebanon Cemetery. The Rev. Don Wilson officiate.
Mr. Dodson, a native of Plains, was born April 13, 1905, a son of the late Armstead Dodson and Maude Elizabeth Wells Dodson. He was a member of the North Rome Baptist Church in Tampa, and was a retired mortgage broker.
Survivors include a brother and two sisters-in-law, Joel and Mary Dodson and Anita Dodson, all of Plains. His wife Jessie preceded him in death 1982.

Marion Wall James
AMERICUS -- Mrs. Marion Wall James, 71, of 319 Pecan Drive, died late Sunday night, March 14, 2004, at Sumter Regional Hospital. Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Lee Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Nelson and the Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. James, a native of Plains, was born Feb. 21, 1933, a daughter of the late Marion Caskey Wall and Ermine Stevens Wall. She was a member of the Lee Street United Methodist Church. As a young lady, she worked as a cosmetologist and was the owner of Marion's Beauty Shop until the early '70s.
Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Lee Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 922, Americus GA 31709, the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ann Harris, 1801 Rose Ave., Americus GA 31709, or to any memorial fund of the giver's choice.
