Maybell Gunn Ward
Services for Maybell Gunn Ward of McRae and Lumber City were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30 at Lumber City Baptist Church with interment in the Riverside Cemetery.
Ward, 96, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Flora J. McLeod and was the widow of William Luther Ward. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Donna Haymons.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, she was the last surviving of 10 children. She was a member of Lumber City Baptist Church and was retired from Purina Mills.
Survivors include her daughters, Willene (Fred) Haymons of McRae and Lutrell (Eugene) Durrence of Glennville; grandchildren, Bob (Lynn) Haymons, Kyle Durrence and Pam Durrence; great-grandchildren, Rob Haymons, Kandice (Brad) Purvis, Tiffany Taylor, Jessica Durrence, Kaleb Durrence and Alex Durrence; and great-great-grandchildren, Kaydee Purvis and Emilee Purvis.

Dorothy Mae Wilcox
Services for Dorothy Mae Wilcox of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31 at St. Joseph Church of God in Christ of McRae with interment in Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. Joseph McLeod Sr. and Dr. Leonard Gibbs officiated.
Wilcox, 84, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at Lower Oconee Community Hospital in Glenwood. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Sr. and Leola Litman and was the widow of Walter Wilcox.
Born Sept. 21, 1923 in Wheeler County, she retired as a housekeeper and retail clerk, but continued to serve people as a Candy Striper for Telfair Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her son, Andre’ (Gloria) Wilcox of Brunswick; caring and devoted sister, Mildred Adams of McRae; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rev. Cora Mae Clark
Services for the Rev. Cora Mae Clark of Alamo were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24 at Horne Mission CME Church in Lumber City with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. William Horne Jr. officiated.
Clark, 99, died Monday, May 19, 2008 in the Lower Oconee Community Hospital in Glenwood. She was the daughter of the late Joshua and Maggie McLain and was the widow of Willie B. Clark. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Willie Joe Kirby and a son, Leon Clark.
She was born March 16, 1909 in Telfair County.
Survivors include her son, Earl Jerome (Gail) Clark of Philadelphia, Penn.; four daughters, Ruby Nell (Billy) Horne of Alamo, Idella (John) Harris of Hot Springs, Ariz., Lucy Jean (Bennie) Tillmon and Wanda Faye (Willie) Tillman, both of Alamo; one brother-in-law, Rev. Elijah (Thelma) Clark of Alamo; one sister-in-law, Nellie Lampkin of Jacksonville, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; and a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ennis Lamar Coleman
Services for Ennis Lamar Coleman of Glenwood were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at the Stewart Funeral Service Glenwood Chapel with interment in the Glenwood City Cemetery.
The Rev. W.R. Connell officiated.
Coleman, 84, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Wheeler County Hospital after a long illness. He was married to Rita Coleman of Glenwood.
He was a native of Wheeler County living most of his life in the Glenwood area. He was an electrician and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Lamar “Bubba” Coleman; daughter, Gail (Ron) Jones of Glenwood; sister, Buena (Jack) Lowery of McRae; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Clarance Drake
Services for Clarance Drake of Toombs County were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24 at Lighthouse Tabernacle Holiness Church in McRae with interment in the Helena Cemetery.

Drake, 68, died Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Meadows Regional Hospital in Vidalia. He was the son of the late Tommy Drake Sr. and Florence Drake.
Born Dec. 8, 1939 in Halsell, Ala., he was a mechanic until 2000.
Survivors include his sons, Clem (Annie) Drake of Eastman and Clarance Drake Jr. of Tifton; two stepsons, Bishop J.B. (Carrie) Carr of Chauncey and Charles Meminger Jr. of Macon; five daughters, Ann Powell of Milan, Betty Mims and Shirley Crayton, both of Baxley, Lawanda Drake of Dublin and Samantha Clay of Helena; three sisters, Daisy Gale of Bronx, N.Y., Mattie Flowers of Rockville Centre, N.Y. and Betty Thompson of Lisman, Ala.; two brothers, Eugene (Johnnie Mae) Drake of Halsell, Ala. and Tommy Drake Jr. of Mobile, Ala.; one son-in-law, Jesse Steve Crayton of Baxley; several grand and great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Murl Patrick
Services for Murl Patrick of Milan were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 22 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Rebecca Church Cemetery.
The Elder Spencer Fussell and the Rev. John Norris officiate.
Patrick, 75, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008. He was the son of the late Genie and Ella Nan Hulett Patrick of Telfair County and was married to Irene Patrick. He was preceded in death by a brother, Valda Patrick and one granddaughter, Annie Marie Patrick.
He was a lifelong resident of Telfair County except for the time he served in the United States Air Force, and was a farmer.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his two sons, Billy Patrick and Larry (Ann) Patrick; daughter, Elaine (Joe) Lutwinski, all of Milan; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Patrick and W.L. Patrick, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one sister, Lutrell Stovall of Milan.
Pallbearers were Porky Patrick, Derrick Bridges, Eric Lutwinski, Lee Patrick, Brian Strom and Rhett Knight.

Shaun Laver Brown Jr.
Graveside services for Shaun Laver Brown Jr. of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at Pine Acres Cemetery in McRae.
Brown, three-months, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 at Childrens Healthcare of Egleston Hospital in Atlanta. Born July 17, 2008, he was the son of Michelle McLean and Shaun Brown Sr. of McRae.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brothers, Jerome and Jeremiah Montgomery; sister, Joniyah McLean; grandparents, Linda McLean and John McLean, Sarah Tillman (Mark Tillman) and Sidney Bates, and Mary Brown (James Hollis); great-grandparents, Lenora Brown and the late Bobby Brown; Pauline Lemon and Earnestine Bates; special god-parents, Hope and Frank King; special relatives, Shantelle Mosby, Venis Mathews and Lavan Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Henry Lee Jack Carpenter
Services for Henry Lee Jack Carpenter of Nashville, Ga. were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at Rebecca Baptist Church in Milan with interment in the church cemetery.
Carpenter, 62, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the son of Lunette Hilliard Carpenter and the late Rev. Henry D. Carpenter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Ronald Carpenter and brother-in-law, Randy Sharpe.
Born in Milan, he was a graduate of Ware County High School, and from there, attended the Biblical program at Mercer University. Carpenter served in the United Stated Air Force, and had made his home in Nashville for many years. He worked as a refrigerator engineer with Harvey’s grocery stores. He was a member of Rebecca Baptist Church in Milan.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his daughter, Sherrie Courson and her husband Brian, of Bickley; sisters, Betty Jean Carpenter, Josie Carpenter McQuaig and husband Marlon, and Joyce Carpenter Sharpe, all of Waycross; three grandchildren, Preston Courson, Adam Courson and Amy Courson, all of Bickley; special nieces, Hilliary McQuaig, Elizabeth Dinkins, Charlotte Thomas, Madison and Joey Dinkins; and nephews Joshua Sharpe, Jonathan Sharpe, Daniel Thomas wife Debbie and David Thomas; and numerous other relatives.

James Clark
Services for James Clark of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in McRae with interment in Pine Acres Cemetery.

Clark, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Born Jan. 19, 1932 he was the son of Jannie Clark and the late Sam Clark. He was preceded in death by daughter, Peggy Sailem Dasher and two grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, survivors include daughters, Sheryl Clark of McRae and Sarah Frances (Larry) Conaway of Lumber City; sons, James (Cora) Clark Jr. of Douglas, Keith (Melonie) Clark of Lithonia and Anthony Clark of McRae; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a devoted and caring friend, Beulah (James) Clark Dollar of McRae; sisters, Betty Clark of McRae and Carolyn Kates of Atlanta; brother, Tommie L. Clark of McRae; aunts, Mattie B. Reese of McRae and Rebecca Thomas of Chester, Pa.; aunt-in-law, Teressa Clark of Jacksonville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tony Grant
Services for Tony Grant of Alamo were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at StarLight Baptist Church of Glenwood with interment in the church cemetery.

Grant, 46, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 in Wheeler County. Born July 17, 1962, he was the son of Ollie Grant and the late Willie Mae Bess Mackey Grant.
He was an employee of Robin Masonry.
In addition to his father, survivors include his loving grandmother, Willie Mae Grant of Glenwood; two brothers and five sisters; three brothers-in-law, Billy Bess of Savannah, Johnny (Maggie) Mackey of Alamo, Jacqueline (Douglas) Anderson of Meridian, Miss., Bettie Cohen of McRae, Ameda (William) Walls of Sandy Springs, Polly (Jeffery) Mackey of Fort Valley and Phyllis Powell of Alamo; a host of nephews and nieces that he claimed as his own; Willie Frank Mackey Jr., Kim Roberts, Phillip Kenney, Christopher Mackey, Shane Mackey, Tracey Robinson, Clifford Barnes, Erica James, William, Kenya and Fred Watson, Tyler Anderson, Michael Powell, Chassity, Ashley and Brittany Johnson and Brandon Walls; five uncles and four aunts; a hot of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends and a devoted brother-in-law, Charles Kenny; special friends, Jennifer Edwards and Melissa Ferguson.
