Mozelle Singletary Roach

BLAKELY — Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Mozelle Singletary Roach, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. today from graveside at Vickers cemetery in Gadsden County, Fla. with Chaplain Chuck Sayer officiating. She died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at the Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely.

Mrs. Roach was born on Oct. 15, 1917, in Webster County to the parentage of the late Joseph and Annie Mae Braswell Singletary. She is the widow of the late Curtis Leroy Roach who preceded her in death on June 22, 1995. Mrs. Roach, formerly of Whigham, was residing in Blakely and she was a homemaker. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Clark Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Joseph Carney Jr.

ALBANY — Clarence Joseph (Dick) Carney Jr., 62, of 227 Peeds Pond Rd., Montezuma, died Feb. 10, 2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial in Albany. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Roberta City Cemetery. The Rev. Randy Gregg will officiate.

A native of Fort Valley, Mr. Carney grew up in Fort Valley and Roberta and graduated from Fort Valley High School in 1961. He had lived in Montezuma since 1965 and had been the parts manager for Southwestern Chevrolet for the past 26 years. Mr. Carney was a member of the First Baptist Church of Montezuma.

Survivors include: two sons, Joseph Carney and Terry Carney and his wife, LeAnna, all of Montezuma; a daughter and her husband, Paige and Will Sells of Albany; a sister and her husband, Hope and Larry Deraney of Jackson; three grandchildren, Haley Sells, Lexi Ruth Sells and Katelyn Carney; three nieces, Brianna Deraney, Lauren Deraney, Morgan Deraney and a nephew, Alex Deraney.

The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma. The family is at the residence of Terry and LeAnna Carney, 639 Peeds Pond Rd., Montezuma.

Elinor Wilson Hathaway

AMERICUS — Elinor Wilson Hathaway, 84, of 213 Fairway Circle, Americus, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at Sumter Regional Hospital. A private family memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Aubrey Alsobrook will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. following the private family service. They also invite friends to visit at their home on Fairway Circle.

Mrs. Hathaway, a native of Rochester, Mich., was born Oct. 14, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Robert Hugh Wilson and the late Mary Haney Wilson. She was a graduate of Michigan State University and a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She was an honorary member of the Junior Service League and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Hathaway is survived by: her husband, Kenneth Allen Hathaway of Americus; a brother, Bob Wilson of Greenville, N.C.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Kaye Tye and Billy of Americus, Patsy Hathaway of Conifer, Co. and Cynthia Aycock of Winter Park, Fla.; her seven grandchildren, Brian Tye of Rome, Melanie Tye Lipscomb of Atlanta, Erik Lee of Camilla, Greg Lee of Charlotte, Zachary Aycock of Winter Park, Fla., Alex Landau and Maya Landau both of Conifer, Col. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hathaway was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Wilson and Allen Ray Wilson.

Aldridge Funeral Service, 612 Reese Park, is in charge of these arrangements.

Milton Fletcher Little

PERRY — Milton Fletcher Little, age 79, of 231 Taylor St., Americus, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at Serenity Gate in Perry. A graveside memorial at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating.

Mr. Little, a native of Rhine, was born Oct. 18, 1926, son of the late David A. Little and Sally Fletcher Little. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Asian and Pacific Theater and the Philippine Liberation. He also earned a W.W.II Victory Medal.

Mr. Little is survived by: his wife, Dorothy Little of Americus; a daughter, Linda Spivey of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Little and wife Kim of Lula; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Al Deriso and Linda of Ellaville, Richard Deriso of Americus, Larry Deriso and Marcella also of Americus. Also surviving is 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Aldridge Funeral Service, 612 Reese Park, is in charge of these arrangements.

Jessie James Owens

RANSONVILLE, NY - Graveside services for Mr. Jessie James Owens of 3509 Ransonville Rd., Ransonville, NY, who passed in that city on March 17, 2006 will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, from the Eastview cemetery. The Rev. Larry B. Sims will officiate and burial will follow afterward.

Mr. Jessie James Owens was born in Americus on Sept. 14, 1939 to the parentage of the late Mr. Posey Owens and the late Mrs. Mattie Lou Williams Owens.

He leaves to mourn his passing: a brother, Mr. James Owens; seven nephews, Mr. Alton Owens and Mr. Donnell Owens, Mr. James Owens Jr. and Mr. Roger Owens, Mr. Darrell Owens, Mr. Otis Owens and Mr. Rodney Owens; cousins, Mr. Walter Williams and Ms. Clara Harris and other relatives and friends also survive.

Barnum Funeral Home will be in charge of these arrangements.

Martha Estelle Dillard Bridges

ELLAVILLE - Mrs. Martha Estelle Dillard Bridges, 85, of 623 Bridges Store Rd., Ellaville, died early Monday morning, April 10, 2006, at The Medical Center in Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Concord United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Ellaville cemetery. The Rev. Graton Helms and the Rev. Brooks Partain will officiate.

Mrs. Bridges was born July 22, 1920, in Marion County and was the daughter of Joseph Emmett Dillard and Nettie Eunice Bryan Dillard. She was a homemaker and had lived in Schley County all of her married life. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was an active member of Concord United Methodist Church and a very active participant of the Ellaville-Schley County Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. J.R. Bridges, in 1994.

Survivors include: two daughters and two sons-in-law, Elaine and Aaron Phillips of Ellaville, Patricia and David Snipes of Midland; a sister, Jeanne Dillard Yarbrough of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Harold and Geraldine Dillard, Vernon and Jacquelyn Dillard, Marry Dillard and Helen Barwick all of Ellaville; four grandchildren, Kenneth Phillips, Keith Phillips, Kevin and LaRae Snipes, Alan and Michele Snipes.

Survivors include: five great-grandchildren, Kayla Phillips, Maddie Snipes, Brody Snipes, Jake Snipes and Luke Snipes. In addition to Mrs. Bridges' husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers-in-law, Mamie and Johnnie Grant of Pensacola, Fla., Thelma Tidd Ivey and Carl Ivey of Tifton, Mavis and Kermit Green of Ellaville and Russell Yarbrough of Jacksonville and one brother, Marcus Dillard of Ellaville.

Pallbearers will include Kenneth Phillips, Keith Phillips, Kevin Snipes, Alan Snipes, Randy Yelverton and David Streetman. Honorary pallbearers will include Eugene Usry, Bobby Usry, Jimmy Wells, Art Daniel, Bill Jackson, Spencer Morse, Shane Tondee, Marc Ellis and the Ellaville-Schley County Senior Citizens Center.

Visitation will be held 6 - 8 p.m. tonight at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 22, Ellaville, GA 31806 or to the Ellaville-Schley County Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 144, Ellaville, GA 31806.

Fannie Mae Kiesewetter

ANDERSONVILLE - Mrs. Fannie Mae Kiesewetter, age 89, of Yucaipa, California died Thursday, April 13, 2006 at her residence after a long illness. Mrs. Kiesewetter was born March 12, 1917, the oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Allen Clay Fletcher, Sr. of Schley County. Her first husband, Earl Holloway of Schley County preceded her in death in 1941. Her second husband, Eugene Patrick Kiesewetter of California, preceded her in death in 2004. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Andersonville National cemetery with Dr. Bob Whitmire officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charlie Gibbs Sunday School Class Benevolence Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, 221 S. Lee Street, Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include two

sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Harold Holloway of Americus, Greg and Nancy Kiesewetter of California; one daughter and son-in-law, Erma and Warren Devore of California; seven grandchildren, Jason Holloway of Americus, Lynn Land of Statham, Michele Reddick of Marietta, Donna, Eric and Allen Devore and Paula Brister of California. Numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive. She is also survived by two sisters, Callie Satterfield and Quennelle Wynn, both of Americus.

Dock M. Cox

AMERICUS - Mr. Dock M. Cox, age 80, of 928 Oglethorpe Ave., died late Wednesday evening March 29, 2006 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2006, at First Christian Church, 118 Taylor St., with the Rev. Frank Kirkland, the Rev. David Andrews, Dr. David Kitchens and the Rev. Margaret Blevins officiating.

Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times, the family residence, 928 Oglethorpe Ave. Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Elrod, Mike Stanley, Easton Kinnebrew, Gordon Duff, Bubba Davis and Troy Gay. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Thomas McLeod, Bob Davis, Frank Joiner, Don Smith, Paul Preskett, Dr. Tom Eaves, Bucky Rozmarynoski, Rene Robledo and James Miles.

Mr. Cox was a lifetime resident of Americus and Sumter County and was born Feb. 11, 1926, the son of the late Charlie Crisp Cox and Hettie Agnes Fullbright Cox.

He was owner and operator of Dock's Saw Shop since 1978 and a member of the First Christian Church since 1936. He has served as deacon and trustee on the official board since 1971.

Mr. Cox was a Pvt. First Class in the United States Army during World War II. He served two years, and 20 months of that time on foreign soil, (Europe) .

He was attached to Co. M 222 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division and was one of the first 18-year-olds drafted from Sumter County in 1944.

Mr. Cox was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action near Neuburg, France on Jan. 4, 1945.

He left a mortar position about 250 yards behind enemy line, after an intense artillery and mortar concentration had cut the communication wires and the enemy groups had succeeded in infiltrating under cover of the fire.

Pvt. Cox went on the mission of establishing contact with troops on the main line of resistance, leaving a mortar position about 250 yards behind the line, he made his way forward and succeeded in contacting the units on the front line, there re-establishing communication within the battalion. He later under heavy fire delivered a message that the area would be held at all cost. Through his disregard for his own safety and devotion to duty, Pvt. Cox was responsible for maintaining invaluable contact during a major enemy attack. On April 29, 1945, Mr. Cox, with the 42nd Rainbow Division M Co. 222, liberated Dachau and witnessed first hand the horrors of the prisoners that were gassed and their bodies were stacked like cord wood across the road.

Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Lanelle Hogg Cox of Americus and has been married to her for 57 years and eight months; two daughters and sons-in-law: Terri Elrod and Steve of Bainbridge and Tammy Stanley and Mike of Perry. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Stephanie Elrod Kinnebrew and her husband Easton Kinnebrew, Sam Elrod, Therese Stanley, Veronica Stanley and Michael Stanley; two great-grand dogs: Millie Elrod Kinnebrew and Earnie Millard Kinnebrew.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 118 Taylor St., Americus, GA 31709.

Mary Helen Watson

AMERICUS - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Helen Watson of 301 Horton Drive, Americus, who passed on Monday, April 17, 2006, in the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 21, from the Triedstone Baptist Church. The Rev. Leon Pace will officiate and burial will follow in the Staley Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing of the body one hour prior to services at the church.

Mrs. Mary Helen Watson was born April 8, 1937, in Schley County to the parentage of the late Mr. Harrison Myers and the late Mrs. Inez Black Myers.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Mr. Elbert Hightower; three daughters, Mrs. Flora (Jimmy) Solomon, Mrs. Mary (Johnny) Wilder and Ms. Lucy Moss; two brothers, Mr. James Chambliss and Mr. Arthur Clark; four sisters, Ms. Ora (Otis) Williams, Ms. Delois Cooper, Ms. Mary Lois Clark and Ms. Evelyn Floyd; grandchildren, Sharon (Derek), Terri and fiance' Ferlisa, Sherri, LaWanda (Dexter), Wanda, Henry Jr. and Jimmy Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Thomas Simpson

AMERICUS - Mr. Thomas Simpson died Friday, April 14, 2006, in Americus. Thomas was born in Chicago on May 13, 1922, son of Alexander and Cecil Thomas Simpson. Thomas was married to Darlene H. Simpson, who preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2005. Both were members of the First United Methodist Church, S. Lee Street, in Americus.

Thomas graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago and attended Southern Illinois University and Northwestern University. He served with valor during World War II in Marine Torpedo Squadron 131 and attained the rank of captain, receiving his discharge in 1945. Thomas was a sales representative for the David Rothschild Co., Columbus, and vice president of sales at Peak Textiles, Americus.

Thomas will be buried next to his wife in Oakwood Cemetery, Higgins Lake, Mich., where services will be held this summer. Thomas is survived by two sons, Robert Murray Simpson of Americus and Keith Alexander Simpson of Limon, Colorado; three daughters and their husbands, Suzanne and Thomas Bulat of Santa Clarita, Calif., Donna and Tim Ferguson of Alpharetta and Kathy and J.C. Daniel of Macon and grandchildren, Aimee Tavormina of Sappora, Japan, Betsy and Emily Bulat of Atlanta, Tori, Bekah and Ches Daniel of Macon and Amber Ferguson of Alpharetta.

Christine W. Troxell

CORDELE - Funeral services for Christine Williamson Troxell of Cordele will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2006 at Cordele First United Methodist Church. iIntermentwill follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Troxell died at her residence Wednesday, April 12, 2006.

She was born Friday, June 30, 1933 in Sumter County and was the daughter of the late Christie Durham Williamson and Sara Stroup Williamson and the widow of James Hubert Troxell.

A special education teacher (RET), she had been employed by the Crisp County School System for 34 years.

Mrs. Troxell served for many years on the Special Olympics committee and had been named Georgia Teacher Of The Year.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association in the Americus District. She was a member of Cordele First United Methodist Church and had served as a Sunday School teacher and pianist.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Aras and Randy Bridges of Cordele, three sons and their wives, Jimmie! and Kelly Troxell of Warwick, David and Peggy Troxell of Laurinburg, NC and Kenny Troxell of Cordele; seven grandchildren, Kristi Bridges, Brandon Bridges, Michael Troxell, Taylor Troxell, Miles Troxell, Logan Troxell and Valerie Morrison; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Troxell of Perry; a brother, Rev. Cephas Durham Williamson and his wife, Elaine of Ft. Wayne, IN; and three nieces. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, April 16, 2006 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

They request that memorials may be made to the Music Department of Cordele First United Methodist Church - 302 East 12th Avenue - Cordele, GA - 31015 or to the Phoebe Foundation For The Willson Hospice House Project - 410 5th Avenue - Albany, GA 31701.
