Wallace H. Laramore
AMERICUS — Mr. Wallace H. Laramore, 82, of Leslie died Thursday morning, Feb. 2, 2006, at Sumter Regional Hospital. A native of Lee County, Mr. Laramore was born July 12, 1923, a son of the late Wade Laramore and Vera Wallace Laramore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Pace Laramore May 18, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 5 at Leslie Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Poplin officiating. Burial followed in Leslie City Cemetery.

Mr. Laramore is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John Wade and Susan Laramore of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jimmy Hightower of Americus; one brother, Loomis “Sonny” Deavours of Duluth; four sisters, Joan Cordell of Americus, June Worsham of Thomaston, Mary Owens of Charlotte, N.C., and Joy Touchton of Winter Haven, Fla. Seven grandchildren, David Hightower, Dennis Hightower, Lara Hightower, Jim Hightower, Peter Laramore, Andy Laramore and Tim Laramore and three great-grandchildren, Garrison Hotchkiss, Abbie Hotchkiss and Mallory Hotchkiss and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Clenton Mae Cain Calloway
AMERICUS — Funeral services for Mrs. Clenton Mae Cain Calloway of 240 Brookdale Drive, Americus, who passed on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 in the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center, will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, from the Zion Hope Baptist Church. Elder Alfred Robinson will officiate and burial will follow in the Staley Memorial Gardens. The remains will lie at the church one hour prior to the services.
Mrs. Clenton Mae Cain Calloway was born in Sumter County on Feb. 17, 1926, to the parentage of the late Mr. Henry Cain and the late Mrs. Mary Molly Hoston Cain.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Mr. Willie James Calloway Jr. and Mr. Johnny Calloway; five daughters, Mrs. Mae (James) Alexander, Ms. Mary Williams, Mrs. Emma (Elder Alfred) Robinson, Ms. Stacie White and Ms. Tracie Myers; 15 devoted grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

George Walter Harris Jr.
BARTOW, Fla. — Mr. George Walter Harris Jr., age 71, of Bartow, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida.
Born in Tampa, Fla., Mr. Harris grew up in Americus, Georgia and was CEO & Chairman of the Board of Citrus & Chemical Bank of Polk County. A graduate of Georgia Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial management in 1956, Mr. Harris was Student Council President and a member of the SAE Fraternity. He graduated from Louisiana State University School of Banking. Mr. Harris served as a U.S. Naval Officer in Key West from 1956 to 1958.
George W. Harris Jr. was devoted to his wife, Harriett, and dedicated to his children, Katherine, Walt and Fran. To his brother, he was a best friend. To his bank, he was an inspirational leader. To his friends, he was always loyal and encouraging. To his community, he was a servant.
He was known for his kindness and generosity. His joy was contagious and his humility was authentic. His energy was unending, as was his love for all athletics, especially tennis. From his corporate charitable giving to the scores of anonymous individuals in need, George W. Harris Jr. gave from his heart.
George W. Harris Jr. was recipient of the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame Award, the First state-wide recipient of the Community Bankers of Florida 'Emblem' Award, the Polk County Opportunity Council “Humanitarian of the Year Award, ” the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce ‘2003 George Jenkins Award, ” the Bartow Lions Club “Outstanding Citizen of the Year, ” the Bartow Rotary Club “Outstanding Citizen Medal of Merit, ” the Polk County Public Schools “Lifetime Achievement Award, ” the Women's Resource Center “Corporate Leadership for Women Award.” He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bartow.
Mr. Harris served on the Board of Trustees for the Florida Chamber Foundation and the University of Tampa. He was the past President & Director of the Florida Bankers Association; the past Florida State Chairman of the Conference of State Banks Supervisors. Mr. Harris was Chairman of the Polk County Industrial Development Authority; the Board of Governors of the Polk Museum of Art; the past Chairmen of the Central Florida Development Council; the Chairman & Board of Trustees of the Polk Community College; the Board of Directors for the following organizations: Lakeland Economic Development Council; Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland and the Community Foundation of Greater Winter Haven. He was a member of the past Board of Trustees and the past Board of Directors for the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce; past Member of the American Bankers Association Council; and a member of the Society of International Business Fellows.
He is survived by his wife, Harriett G. Harris of Bartow; son, George W. "Walt" Harris III of Aspen, Colo.; daughters, U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris & husband Anders Ebbeson of Sarasota, Fla.; Fran Harris King and husband Wes of Franklin, Tenn.; Brother, William S. "Bill" Harris and wife Ann of Americus; grandchildren - Harrison, Mitch and Walt King of Franklin, Tenn.; McCall Kauss of Aspen and Louise Ebbeson of Miami. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive. John H. Harvey
TEMPLE, Penn. — John H. Harvey, 48, Temple, died of natural causes Jan. 13 at 12:44 a.m., in the emergency room of Reading Hospital.
Born in Americus, he was a son of Fannie L. Harvey, Americus, and the late John H. Moore.
He had been employed for 30 years by Zip-net, Inc., Reading, where he was plant manager.
Harvey, who resided with Tina (Sheetz) Nye, is also survived by two daughters, Kieshia C. Martin and Dyneisha D. Harvey, both of Reading.
Other survivors include three brothers: Clarence, Killeen, Texas; LeRoy, Zebulon; and John E., Americus; and five sisters, Denise (Harvey) Danner and Glory Harvey, both of Killeen; Carolyn Harvey and Elizabeth Melton, both of Americus; and Allie Harvey, Reading.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, at Henninger Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.

Gary Milton West
PARROTT — Gary Milton West, 62, of Parrott, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2005, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., today, at L.B. Smith Funeral Chapel in Richland. The Rev. Wallace Willis and the Rev. Kenneth Lee West will officiate.
Born Dec. 2, 1943 in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Lettie Downer West and the late Wesley Milton West.
West was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He attended Terrell County schools and was a graduate of Florida State University, where he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. At Florida State University, he received his B.S. in finance. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Heyward West.
He is survived by his wife, Delia Almon West of Parrott; his children, Miriam Blake West of Parrott, Mary Bonnie West of Parrott, Daniel Grady Almon of Preston, Dave Vincent Almon of Dawson, Joseph Milton West of Dawson and Brooks West Hart of Americus; three grandchildren; one brother, the Rev. Kenneth Lee West of Pelham.

Mrs. Emma Louise Clark Cullen was born in Sumter County on May 6, 1924 to the parentage of the late Mr. Henry Clark and Mrs. Estell Davis Clark. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. She was married
to the late Mr. Charlie Cullen.

Mr. Joseph Snead will reunite with his parents, Mr. Roosevelt Snead and Mrs. Viola Redding Snead and his son. He was born in Sumter County.

COLUMBUS — Ruth Rigsby Harbuck, age 77, of Ellaville died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Oakland Church of God with the Rev. A.R. Curlee and the Rev. Clifford Braxton officiating. Burial followed in the Oakland Church of God Cemetery.
Mrs. Harbuck was born July 28, 1928 in Chattahoochee County, the daughter of John William and Adeline Gallops Underwood. She has lived in Ellaville for the past 18 years, moving from Marion County. She was a member of Oakland Church of God and had worked at Simplex Nail Company.
Survivors include her husband, Monroe Calvin Harbuck of Ellaville; sons, Ricky Rigsby of Mauk, Leon Rigsby of Ellaville and Terry Rigsby of Lumpkin; daughters, Sue Barrett of Buena Vista and Brenda Sanford of Ellaville; brother, Bobby Underwood of Americus; sisters, Eunice Studdard, Mary Lou Daniels, Jean Smith and Dottie Stringfellow, all of Americus; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

AMERICUS — Mrs. Bernice W. Walthall, age 92, of 114 Sullivan Drive, Americus, died late Thursday evening, Jan. 19, 2006, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, from the graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Tommy McConnell officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the residence of Jim and Sharon Brown, 203 Sherwood Drive, Americus.
Mrs. Walthall was born the daughter of the late Augustus Rupert Wellons Sr. and Sadie Crouse Wellons on Sept. 19, 1913 in Bibb County, Macon. She was a Homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Macon.
Mrs. Walthall is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Zoe W. Duke and Morton of Americus and Lynda W. Hall of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Marie Wellons of Macon. Also surviving is five grandchildren, Terri D. Joiner and husband Jeff of Americus; Sharon D. Brown and husband Jim also of Americus; R. Scott Hall and Kimberly H. James and husband Wade, all of Birmingham, Ala. and James R. Hall Jr. and wife Debbie of Destin, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren, Madison Nicole Brown; Sydney Marie Joiner and Nikki Joiner all of Americus; Devin Wade James, Taylor Lynn James and Rachel S. Hall, all of Birmingham, Ala. and Holley Ray Hall of Destin, Fla. Mrs. Walthall was preceded in death by her late husband Walter Fields Walthall on Oct. 19, 1981, and also by three sisters and a brother.

A native of Miller County, Mrs. West grew up in Colquitt and lived in Albany and Worth County before moving to Cobb. She was a homemaker, member of Lakeview Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

West Jr. of Cobb, a son and his wife, Steve and Vickie West of Hiram, three daughters and their husbands, Sherrie and Dewayne Watkins of Sylvester, Lisa and Randy Roberts of Leesburg and Rebecca and Milton Hathcock of Osceola, Wis., two brothers and their wives, Alvin and Elise Gordon and Lamar and Freddie Gordon, all of Colquitt, two sisters, Robbie Kirksey of Colquitt and Lille Stanton of Auburndale, Fla. and 12 grandchildren.

Henry Bess
SMITHVILLE — Funeral services for Mr. Henry Bess of Smithville, GA will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 2:00P.M. at the Green Grove Baptist Church in Smithville, GA with Rev. Hosie Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mr. Henry Bess, Sr. the sixth child of Ms. Anna Bess was born in Lee County, Georgia on December 20, 1919. He was married
to Mrs. Odessa Sutton and to this union was born six children. Mr. Bess was a faithful member of the Green Grove Baptist Church, where he served until his health failed. “Big Daddy” as he was affectionately called was a caring and giving man who would help others in need. He died peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at the Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, Georgia.
He leaves a legacy of love in his four adoring daughters, Mrs. Earnestine (Otto) Bennett, Ms. Doris Bess, Mrs. Brenda Flakalade, and his loving care giver, Mrs. Rosie Mae (Douglas) Cutts; one son, Micheal Bess; one daughter-in-law Mrs. Gussie Mae Bess and a loving and devoted friend Ms. Ruby Thornton; 24 grandchildren, forty-six great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren. Several other relatives and friends also survive.
