KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Memorial services for Frederick Alan Stewart of 23 E. 34th St., Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Americus, who passed on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, in that city will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, from the Friendship Baptist Church. The Rev. Melvin McCluster will officiate and burial will follow in the Eastview cemetery.
Mr. Frederick Alan Stewart was born in Sumter County on May 31, 1968, to the parentage of the late Mrs. Helen Williams Stewart and Mr. Joseph Stewart who survives.
In addition to his father, he leaves to mourn his passing, three brothers, the Rev. Bennie (Shageria) Williams, the Rev. Robert (Sharon) Williams and Mr. Spencer Jackson; three sisters, Ms. Nicole Stewart, Ms. Penny Jackson and Mrs. Carolyn (Myron) Burch; two aunts, Ms. Hattie Bell (Otis) Mathis and Ms. Betty Alsbrooks; two uncles, Mr. Neal Gray and Mr. Nelson Gray and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Arthur Vance Turner
PLAINS — Mr. Arthur Vance Turner, 90, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006. Mr. Turner was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Polk County, a son of the late Arthur Vance Turner Sr. and Mamie Popham Turner. He was a farmer and longtime member of Plains Baptist Church.

ALBANY — Funeral services for Ms. Mary Etta Barner of 224 Barnum Drive, Americus, who passed on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 in the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, from the Big Bethel Baptist Church. Pastor Calvin Rollins will officiate and burial will follow in the Eastview Cemetery. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.
Ms. Mary Etta Barner was born in Sumter County on Nov. 11, 1959 to the parentage of the late Mr. Harry Green and Mrs. Helen Wright Barner, who survives.

RENSSAELAER, N.Y. — Funeral services for Mr. Eston Marion Moses of Rensselaer, N.Y., formerly of Americus, who passed in that city on Oct. 3, 2006, will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, from the Garland Brothers Funeral Home in Albany, N.Y., with burial to follow in that city.
Mr. Eston Marion Moses was born in Americus on Jan. 12, 1946 to the parentage of the late Mr. Emmett Moses and the late Mrs. Razzie Lee Moses.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 32 years, Mrs. Almeta “Sallie” Moses; one daughter, Ms. Gwendolyn Bruce; two sisters, Ms. Ruth H. Cannon and Mrs. Virginia (Clarence) Smith; two brothers, Mr. Curtis Moses and Mr. Jimmy Jones; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Willie Leroy Walton, Sr
Americus — Willie Leroy Walton, Sr., 55, 235 Barnum Dr., Americus, GA, passed Monday, Oct. 2. Graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6 at the Staley Memorial Cemetery, Corner of Mayo and Southerfield Rd., Americus, GA with full military honors. Rev. Larry Sims and Minister Christopher Walton will officiate. Wake services will be conducted today at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc.
Mr. Walton was born in Sumter County, Georgia Sept. 1, 1951 to Sarah Yates Walton and Willie Walton, Sr. Four siblings preceded him in death: Vernon Brown, Ronald Eugene Brown, Anita Louise Walton Davis and Columbus Brown, Jr. He was a 1971 graduate of Americus High School. He enlisted into the U. S. Army in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1973. In 1993, he retired from the U. S. Army National Guard with twenty dedicated years of service. During his tenure in the U. S. Army and U. S. National Guard, he received many awards, badges, commendations, ribbons and honors.
He was employed with I.M.C., Inc. (division of American Steel Cooperation) and retired after 30 years of services as a Maintenance Supervisor. During these years, Mr. Walton served as president of the Union and retired with honors in the year 2000. He was a member of the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church an a member and commander of American Legion Post #558.
Survivors include a beloved wife of 16 years, Patricia Prince Walton; Children: Christopher Dant' Walton (Tachelle), Willie Leroy Walton, Jr., Kenyatta LaKeisha Thomas, Whitley Latrice Walton and Kelly Tyner; parents, Willie and Sarah Yates Walton; 4 grandchildren; sister, Johnnie Mae Vaughn (Robert Lee); father-in-law / mother-in-law, Oscar and Bernice Prince; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James Lewis Ward
MONTEZUMA — Mr. James Lewis Ward, 86, died on Saturday evening, Sept. 30, 2006, in the Flint River Community Hospital in Macon County. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Oak Grove cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Price and the Rev. Scott Brenton officiating.
Born April 25, 1920, in Schley County, Mr. Ward was a son of the late Thomas Edgar Ward and Edna Bell O’Hern Ward. He was a good husband and a good father and was a member of the Christian Heritage Worship Center in Macon County. A former employee of Redman and logger in the timber industry, he was retired from Shiver Lumber Company.
The family received friends at Hancock Funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2. At other times, friends may call at his residence, 103 West Walnut St., Apartment A-1, Montezuma.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maggie Claire Turner Ward of Montezuma; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sara and Bobby Tondee of Ellaville, and Dorothy Powell of Montezuma; stepsons and their wives, Rusty and Robin Hardee of Outer Banks, N.C., Oscar and Jan Hardee and David Hardee, all of Auburn, Ala., Kenny and Kathy Hardee of Montezuma, and Art Hardee of New York City; stepdaughters and their husbands, Etta and Randy Bryant of Oglethorpe, Vera Taylor of Americus, Terri Fountain of Byromville, and Mary Lou Hall of Pineview; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A daughter, Bessie Ward, and a grandson, Charles Earl Fountain, preceded him in death.

Genie Holman Adams
LESLIE — Mrs. Genie Holman Adams, 94, of 395 Head Road, died at her residence early Tuesday morning, Oct. 3. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Leslie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Giglio and the Rev. Charles Puryear officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Americus. Serving as pallbearers are Tom Holman, Lee Holman, Tommy Holman, Dan Card, Charles Exum and Larry Tucker.
The family will receive friends at Aldridge Funeral Services, from 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 4, and at other times the family residence, 395 Head Road, Leslie.
Mrs. Adams, a native and lifetime resident of Sumter County, was born the daughter of the late Tom L. Holman and Mary Johnson Holman on Jan. 30, 1912. She was a very caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the oldest living member of the Leslie United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Adams is survived by two daughters and a son; Joye Mills and son-in-law Bud of Leslie; Eugenia “Gina” Adams of Athens; and W.H. “Bubber” Adams and daughter-in-law Sylvia of Hawkinsville. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great, great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her loving husband William Headley Adams Jr; two sisters, Vesta Peterman and Vera Cheek; four brothers, Roy Holman, Willis Holman, Virgil “Buddy” Holman and Dick Holman. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Amy Lynn Large.

AMERICUS — Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Dorothy Carter of 715 Hawkins St., who passed on Saturday, Sept. 30, in Sumter Regional Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, from Bethesda Baptist Church. Mrs. Dorothy Carter was born in Sumter County Feb. 8, 1920, to the parentage of the late Mr. James Carter and the late Mrs. Gussie Shootes Carter.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband of 65 years, the Rev. Irvin Carter; two sons, Mr. James Carter and Minister David (Shana) Carter; four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy (Alvin) Branch, Ms. Gwendolyn Hicks, Ms. Cheryl Bonnor and husband, Jerome Thomas and Ms. Melba Williams; one sister, Ms. Josephine Simpson; eight grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

PLAINSFIELD, N.J. — Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Mae Angry-Davis of 23 Cedar Court, Plainsfield, N.J., formerly of Plains, who passed on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 in that city, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 from the Lebanon Baptist Church. Elder J.L. Raven Jr. will officiate and burial will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery.
Mrs. Ida Mae Angry-Davis was born in Plains, on June 16, 1939 to Mrs. Lula Crecie Angry and the late Mr. Benjamin Smith.
In addition to her mother, she leaves to rejoice her home going four children, Mrs. Cassandra Davis, Mr. Earlton (Bernadette) Davis, Ms. Ida Tyson and Mr. Frank (Rita) Davis; five grandchildren, seven siblings, Mr. Johnny Cottle, Ms. Commie R. Mrs. Mary Belle Woods Cliatt was born in Sumter County on Oct. 5, 1917 to the late Jessie Lee Woods Sr. and the late Mary Mathis Woods. At an early age she joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Plains, GA. She later moved to Tampa, FL. where she joined the St. John Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by a mother-in-law, Mrs Mattie Lee Hale of Atlanta, GA. three brothers and one sister. Mrs Cliatt departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Sumter Regional Hospital, Americus, GA.

CENTERVILLE — Georgia McGhee Smith Ross, 90, of Centerville died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. iIntermentwill be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove cemetery on Reese St., Americus. The Rev. Sydney Odum will officiate and Georgia’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Ross was born on Dec. 16, 1915 in Petros, Tenn., the daughter of Ben and Rachel (Luke) McGhee. She later married
James Clayton Smith Sr. in Dayton, Tenn. He preceded her in death, as well as, her second husband, Allen Ross.
She is survived by her son, James Clayton Smith Jr. (Cathy) of Big Canoe; two daughters, Catherine Bowers (Dave), Brenda Hodes (Dave) of Centerville; grandsons, Tim Goolsby, Michael Goolsby, Greg Goolsby, Eddie Bowers and Todd Tyler, nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Daisy M. Young of Warner Robins and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ross was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Phillips and Jessie Byrd and brothers, Carl McGhee and Ben McGhee. She was a nurse in Americus at Sumter Regional Hospital but it was her family that she loved so much and was so devoted to. Her second love was for flowers and plants.

David Eugene Morrow Sr.
MACON — David Eugene “Gene” Morrow Sr., 92, died on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Ingleside United Methodist Church with the Rev. John McGowan and the Rev. Richard Lanning officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to Ingleside United Methodist Church, 3187 Ridge Ave., Macon, GA. 31204.
Mr. Morrow was the son of the late Fred A. and Rosa Louise Robinson Morrow. Mr. Morrow was born in Rockdale County and had been a resident of Macon since 1926. Mr. Morrow was a United States Army veteran of World War II and had worked for the Seaboard Coast Railroad (now CSX) for 45 years. During retirement years, he enjoyed golfing and traveling. Mr. Morrow was a member of Ingleside United Methodist Church and the James L. Brake Sunday School Class.
He was a member of Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and Al Sihah Shrine Temple. Mr. Morrow played baseball with the Macon Lumberjacks, Payne City and T.L. Ivey Grocery teams in the 1940s. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Peeler Morrow.
Mr. Morrow is survived by his children, Barbara M. Lovett of Atlanta, Marilyn M. Herndon and David E. Morrow Jr. both of Macon, L. Jeannine Morrow and Teresa D. Morrow, both of Atlanta and Miriam M. Smith (Danny) of Macon; grandchildren, Tracie E. Morrow of Weaver, Ala., Elizabeth Jane Smith and Catherine Anne Smith both of Macon, James H. Lovett and Keith M. Lovett both of Roswell, Jenny L. Lovett of Alpharetta, Vicki L. Sowell and Michael Leger both of Macon.
Great-grandchildren includes, Bailey Joy Thrash of Weaver, Ala., Jesse Sowell, Sidney Sowell and Sarah Sowell all of Macon and Joshua Lovett of Roswell; great, great-grandchild, Marilyn Elizabeth Sowell and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Harrington House at Carlyle Place for providing care to their father for the past four years. The family also thank additional caregivers, Alma Hart, Sheree Martin Bowers and Lucille Holston.
