ALBANY — Mrs. Betty Jean McLendon, age 74, of Andersonville, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 25, 2007 at Palmyra Medical Center in Albany. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in the chapel of Watson-Mathews Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Mark Kinservik and the Rev. Mark Poole officiating.
Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. McLendon was born on Jan. 5, 1933 in Tift County to the late Bernie McLain Barry and Mary Estelle Gay Barry. She was a homemaker, member of County Line Methodist Church in Schley County, and attended the Hope Circle at the church. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was preceded in death by two brothers, J.D. Barry and Lewis Edward Barry, one granddaughter, Carrie Michael Poole.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Loyce McLendon of Andersonville; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Mark Poole of Oglethorpe; son, Gary McLendon of Andersonville; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Joyce Barry of Americus; Bobby and Patricia Barry of Americus; Billy and Betty Barry of Americus; Jerry and Lynn Barry of Perry and Benny and Connie Barry of Americus; two sisters-in-law, Janice Barry of Americus and Eva McLendon Barry of Andersonville; two grandchildren, Brittney Poole of Oglethorpe and Nigel (Lezlie) Poole of Americus.

Augusta Howard Warren
AMERICUS — Augusta Howard Warren of Americus, passed away Jan. 25, 2007, at her residence. Mrs. Warren was born April 4, 1919, in Lexington, Ga. She was the daughter of the late William King Howard and the late Martha Smith Howard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Duncan Warren.
Mrs. Warren graduated from the University of Georgia, class of 1940, where she was in the Chi Omega Sorority. Mrs. Warren moved to Americus in 1952. In Americus, she was an active member of the Americus-Sumter County Historical Society, a patron of the Rylander Theatre, active in the Junior Service League and a member of the Americus Country Club. Mrs. Warren was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include step daughters, Vernon Haley Warren of Plains, Kathy Warren Cowell of Lithia Springs and Marie Warren Bennett of Gainesville; second cousins, Straiton Hard III and Virginia Hard Teague both of Decatur; third cousin, Andrew Straiton Hard, a student at the University of Chicago. There are many surviving very close friends, especially A’ine Conneely of Americus and Ilse Weishempt of Munich, Germany.
A graveside service will conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, officiated by Father Reginald Gunn at Oak Grove Cemetery. Hancock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alisha (Lisa) Davis Turk
AMERICUS — Mrs. Alisha (Lisa) Davis Turk, age 43, passed away very early Wednesday morning, Jan. 24, 2007, in St. Francis Medical Center in Columbus. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, in the First Baptist Church of Americus with the Rev. Daniel Peavy and the Rev. Bob Whitmire officiating. iIntermentwill follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Beulah Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Terrell County.
Born Aug. 10, 1963, in Crisp County, Mrs. Turk was a daughter of W.E. “Billy” Davis and Doris Davis White, both of whom survive.

SNELLVILLE — Funeral services for Mrs. Glenda King Winstead, who passed on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at her home will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, from the United Holiness Headquarters. Bishop-Elect Arthur Fulton will offiicate and burial will follow in Staley Memorial Gardens. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.
Mrs. Glenda King Winstead was born in Sumter County Dec. 1, 1967, to the parentage of the late Mr. Eddie James King and Mrs. Mae Ola Tullis Louis, who survives.
In addition to her mother and step-father, Mrs. Mae Ola (Charles) Louis, she is survived by her husband, Mr. Alvin Winstead; two sons, Mr. Shaddrick J. King and Mr. John S. King; three step-children, Ms. Shaqutta Winstead, Mr. Christopher Winstead and Mr. Gabrielle Lasiter; one brother, Mr. Charlie Tullis; four sisters, Mrs. Lora (William) Wells, Mrs. Vera (Chris) Butler, Ms. Bernice Tullis and Ms. Linda F. King; two grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends also survive.

Teresa Riley Woodford
ANDERSONVILLE — Mrs. Teresa Riley Woodford, 51, of 418 Pennington Rd., Andersonville, died at her residence Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2007. The remains have been cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Woodford was born Jan. 3, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York, Kings County, the daughter of the late Andrew Gatusco and Marie Hassler Gatusco, she was a homemaker and was of the Christian Science faith.
Mrs. Woodford is survived by her husband, Reggie Woodford of Andersonville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brandy Elkins and Daniel of Atlanta, Brittiany Newsome and Calvin of Leslie and Brook Woodford of Andersonville; three sisters, Gigi, Peggy and Susan of New Jersey. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Celani Elkins and Amoria Sine and a number of nieces and nephews.

Erma Diane Gaines Brown
AMERICUS — Mrs. Erma Diane Gaines Brown, 66, South Hampton St., Americus, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007 at Sumter Regional Hospital.
Graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 at New Zion Baptist Church cemetery in Cobb.
Wake service will be conducted from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler St. in Oglethorpe.
Mrs. Brown was born Nov. 1, 1940 to the late O. C. Gaines and Ozzie Mae Girven Gaines in Sumter County. Two sisters preceded her in death, Mary B. Seawright and Adele Paul. At an early age, she joined New Zion Baptist Church.
She was married
to Frank Brown, Jr. and to this union nine children were born. After 23 dedicated years of service, she retired from MHMR Breezeway (a divison of GA States Human Resources) as an Instructor I.
Survivors are:
A loving husband, Frank Brown, Jr.; nine loving and devoted children: Patricia Ann Brown, Calvin Leon Brown, Bernadette Bell (Henry), Glenn Eli Brown, Anthony Wayne Brown, Chris Allen Brown (Charlotta), Ray Anthony Brown, Miranda Ann Thomas (Cedrick) and Jeffery Milan Brown; nine grandchildren; three siblings: Margie C. Brown, Ozzie Dean Carter (William) and Mamie Chealey; sister-in-law / brother-in-law, Mary Alice Ware (Donald); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the Consumers & Staff at Breezeway, her extended family.

Survivors include a daughter and a son-in-law, Jan and Art Whittington of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Julian Stinson Jr. and Annie of White Water, Wis.; a step-daughter, Patsy Spears of Milledgeville; a sister, Myrtle Morris of Apple Valley, Calif.; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Thelma Usry of Americus, Bobby and Lee Usry of Richland, Gladys and Julian Hudson of Florida; grandchildren, Johnny L. and Kathy Nolan of Montezuma, Chandra and Mike Wiesner of Sylvester, Lee and April Stinson of Winchester, Tenn., Ashley Stinson, and Jay Stinson, both of White Water, Wis.; a very special friend, L.W. AMERICUS — Mrs. Mary Louise Windham, formerly of 1701 Allmon Drive, Americus, passed away very early Sunday morning, Jan. 21, 2007, in Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home. iIntermentwill follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Houston Berry will officiate.
Born Feb. 18, 1921, in Phenix City, Ala., Mrs. Windham was a daughter of the late Tolbert McKenzie and Lorene Harralson McKenzie. She was married
to the Rev. W.B. Windham with whom she celebrated their 70th anniversary on Jan. 2, 2007.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Hancock Funeral Home. At other times, friends may call at the Edgar Player residence, 684 Shiloh Road, Americus.
Mrs. Windham, a long-time member of Brooklyn Heights Baptist Church, was a willing helper to her husband in his ministry in the church. She enjoyed being the storekeeper in the store at Brooklyn Heights school, and being available to give guidance to her daughters.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Windham Rodgers of Sylvester, Sandra Windham Wilson and Steve of Grassy Key, Fla., Carolyn Windham Neal of Alapaha, and Beverly Windham Phan of Woodstock; a brother and sister-in-law, Melton and Doris McKenzie of Columbus; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lizetta Tipton
AMERICUS — Mrs. Lizetta (Zet) Tipton of 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Sumter Regional Hospital.
A native of Rome, Ga., Mrs. Tipton was born Dec. 10, 1918, a daughter of Eva Terrell Horton and Roland George Horton. She was the widow of two husbands of 25 years each, Joseph Hale and Earl Tipton. She had one son, Dale Horton Hale, who preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Tipton was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Elizabeth Smith Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart. She was a retired beautician.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Reed Crumbliss officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today at the South Georgia Technical College Presidential Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the building fund at Bethel Baptist Church, 846 Lane Store Rd., Americus, GA 31709. Mrs. Tipton is survived by a sister, Ann H. Reeves of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Avalee A. Horton of Rome; three grandchildren, Kathy Hale of Orlando, Kim Hale of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Rex (Stephanie) Hale of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Trent Musick of Orlando, Kaylie Weston and Brandon Hale of Colorado Springs, Colo.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Charles (Kay) Reeves of St. Simons, Jerry (Joann) Brittingham of Atlanta, Dan (Pam) Reeves of Atlanta and Roy Don (Barbara) Reeves of Greenville, SC and a large number of great and great, great nieces and nephews all of whom loved her very much.

Lee Wisham
PORT ST. JOE, Fla. — Mr. Lee Wisham, age 86, died Monday afternoon, Jan. 8, 2007, at Bay Saint Joseph Care Center in Port Saint Joe, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2007, from the graveside at Oak Grove cemetery with the Rev. William Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday evening, Jan. 11, 2007 at Aldridge Funeral Services.
Mr. Wisham was born March 23, 1920 in Macon County, the son of the late Stockey Green Wisham and Ada Lou Layfield Wisham. He was a retired automobile mechanic and was owner and operator of Wisham Motor Company located on U.S. Highway 19 South in Americus for many years. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Church and a former member of the Americus Moose Club. Mr. Wisham was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Wisham is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Lee Stembridge and W.A. of Mexico Beach, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, William Lee Wisham and Kitty of Americus and a sister, Lucille Williams of Oglethorpe; one sister-in-law, Lucille Wisham of Americus; and special friend, Lillian Dawkins of Montezuma. Also surviving are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Wisham was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Dent Wisham. Curtis Franklin
AMERICUS — Funeral services for Veteran Curtis Franklin of 705 Beale St., Americus, who passed on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 in the Sumter Regional Hosptial, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, from the Lebanon Baptist Church. Elder Larry Franklin will officiate, and burial will follow in the Andersonville National Cemetery. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.
Veteran Curtis Franklin was born in Randolph County on July 31, 1929, to the parentage of the late Mr. Floyd Franklin and Mrs. Della Howard Franklin, who survives. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Anti-Aircraft Division. After he completed his service, he went to school on the GI Bill and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Albany State College. Over the years, he taught at Perry, Northeast and Westside Elementary schools. During court-ordered integration, he served as the principal of Reese Park. He also taught at Central Jr. High School and Staley High School where he became Assistant Principal. He was a member of the American Legion Post #558 where he had served twice as commander, and the GWF Phillips Lodge #691. He served as senior vice-commander of the Third District American Legion.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to mourn his passing three sons, Mr. Kent (Regina) Franklin, Mr. Schley Franklin and Mr. Brian (Karyl) Franklin; six brothers, Mr. Ulysses (Rose) Franklin, Mr. Berlin (Ethel) Franklin, Mr. Joe H. (Miriam) Franklin, Elder Larry (Peggy) Franklin, Mr. Jackie (Rose) Franklin and Mr. Sammie (Diane) Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy (Gordon) Crosby and Ms. Betty Goins; seven grandchildren; one aunt, Ms. Retha Golden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.
