Grace Holbrook
AMERICUS — Mrs. Grace Holbrook, 96, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. She has been cremated, and memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in the Martha McDonald Moore Memorial Chapel at Magnolia Manor with the Rev. Brooks Partain officiating.
Born Aug. 25, 1910, in Mason, Mich., Mrs. Holbrook was a daughter of the late Dr. Joseph Scott Hawley and Mabel Louise Malcolm Hawley. She was the widow of the late Howard Herbert Holbrook.
Mrs. Holbrook retired after many years of clerical and stenographic service to the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. In Americus, she was member of the First United Church, and was a gifted musician. She contributed the organ that was used for many years, until about four months ago, in the chapel of the Manor, and served as the organist for many services through the years.
Memorial contributions may be made to the League of the Good Samaritan, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus GA 31709.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frederick D. (Frances Morgan) Gant Jr. of Kennesaw; a granddaughter, Nancy Thomas of Kennesaw; three grandsons, Frederick D. Gant III and Kenneth M. Gant, both of Marietta, and Timothy M. Gant of Canton; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew. One son, Frederick D. Gant Jr., preceded her in death.

Margaret Blackwell White
MONTICELLO— Margaret Blackwell White, age 89, of Monticello, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Retreat Nursing Home in Monticello.
Margaret White was born in Fulton County to the late Dillard Oliver Blackwell and Grace Marie Copeland Blackwell. She was married
in 1940 to the late John Harold White, Sr. in Atlanta. Margaret was a former member of the Gordon Street Baptist Church in Atlanta and the First Baptist Church in Cartersville. Margaret and her late husband moved to Americus and became an active member for over 40 years in the First Baptist Church in Americus.
After receiving her degree in Early Childhood, Margaret taught kindergarten in the local elementary school for ten years and served on the local school board after retiring from teaching. She worked tirelessly helping her late husband with their retail establishments in Americus.
She is survived by her sons, Stanley Oliver White of Cumming, John Harold White, Jr. of Acworth and Paul David White of Monticello; grandchildren, Hal White, Jeff White, Emily White, Jordan White, Mike Dennis, Shawn Dennis and Stephanie Green; great grandsons, Samuel White, John Dennis, Jack Dennis, and Grant Dennis; and sister, Grace Lowery of Chamblee.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2007, at Westview Cemetery, Inc., in Atlanta. The Rev. Phillip Dennis officiating.

Ruth Eberhardt Brown
AMERICUS — Ruth Corinne Eberhardt Brown, 104, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 12, 2007, at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. today in Oak Grove cemetery with the Rev. Ellison Whitt officiating.
Born April 14, 1903, in Indianapolis, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Ernest G. Eberhardt and Laura D. Aldag Eberhardt. Her husband, Walter Starr Brown, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brown, a former officer worker for the federal government, had been a residence of Americus since 1983, coming here from Kissimmee, Fla., where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephew, Dorothy and Pastor Myron Philippi of St. Petersburg, Fla., David H. and Lorna Orner of Eustis, Fla., Jay Orner of Indianapolis, James. R. Gardner of Eustis, Fla., James and Gloria Orner of Minneola, Fla., Fred and Cecelia Mertz of Indianapolis, Ruth Newnan of Evanston, Ill. and Sarah and John Sparks of Boulder, Co. Several great nieces and great nephews, including her personal representative, Charles L. Philippi of Buckhead, also survive.

Leon Foster
AMERICUS — Funeral services for Mr. Leon Foster, affectionately called “Blue, ” of 138 Arlington Drive, Americus, who passed on Thursday, June 7, 2007. at his home, will be held at 1 p.m., today, June 13, 2007, at Antioch Baptist Church. The Rev. Jesse Watts will officiate and burial will follow in the Staley Memorial Gardens. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.
Mr. Leon Foster was born on July 23, 1959, in Sumter County to the parentage of the late Mr. John Washington and the late Mrs. Julia Mae Foster.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Tansie S. Foster; a son, Mr. Deon Lanier; a daughter, Ms. Tomeka Foster; a step-son, Mr. Christopher Sims of Douglas; one brother, Mr. Larry Foster; two sisters, Ms. Laura Foster and Mrs. Jennifer (Clarence) Tullis; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ilois Shelton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

AMERICUS — Mr. Doug Roseth, 52, 848 Upper River Road, passed away at his residence on Sunday morning, June 10, 2007. Lucy Laura Whittington Wright
ALBANY — Mrs. Lucy Wright, age 84, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Born Aug. 2, 1922, a native of Worth County, Mrs. Wright was the daughter of the late William Franklin Whittington and Lizzie Hortman Whittington.
She lived in Blue Ridge, until she moved to Americus in 1977. She was employed at Manhattan Shirt Factory and retired from the Sumter County School System where she worked in the Food Service Department. She was the last survivor of 13 children. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, today, June 15, 2007 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Troy Fripp officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Randall Satterfield, Bill Dudley, Ty Turner, Marty Wright, Kevin Lance and Richard Daves. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the residence of June and Roland Satterfield, 108 Middle River Road, Americus.

Fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Robert E. Donnelly
ATLANTA — Robert E. “Bob” Donnelly, 83, a longtime resident of Atlanta, died Friday, June 29, 2007.
Mr. Donnelly retired from the Georgia Power Company after 38 years of service.
Surviving are his children, Diane Reichert, Tony Donnelly, Mike Donnelly, Angie Murphy; stepdaughter, Cathy Thierry; grandchildren, Chris Donnelly and Jon Donnelly; and sister, Betty Bell.

ELLAVILLE — Mr. Chad Thomas Masters, 30, of 610 Barwick Road, Ellaville, died early Wednesday morning, June 27, 2007. Funeral services will be held from the graveside at Oak Grove cemetery at 4 p.m., today, Sunday, July 1 with the Rev. Houston Berry officiating. The family will received friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday evening, June 30 and at other times the residence of Ike and Sheila Masters 526 Sharon Drive, Americus.
Mr. Masters was born Dec. 22, 1976 in Sumter County, the son of Issac “Ike” Thomas Masters Jr. and Sheila Jackson Masters. He worked for the maintenance department at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.
Mr. Masters is survived by his mother and father and his wife Elizabeth Ann Bivins Masters of Ellaville; two sons Joshua Ryan and Chandler Blake Masters also of Ellaville; a sister and brother-in-law; Alicia Griffith and Tracey of Newnan; his grandmothers; Willie Maude Jackson and Sara Masters both of Americus. Also surviving is his mother-in-law; Pat Bivins of Ellaville and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins and two nephews; Bryce and Jayce Griffith. Mr. Masters was preceded in death by grandfathers; Roy Jackson and Issac Masters Sr. and father-in-law; Frank Bivins.

SMITHVILLE — Funeral services for the late Deacon Emmett Green of Smithville, who passed on Thursday, June 28, 2007 in the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 3 from the Jerusalem Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. W. G. Bass will officiate and the burial will follow in the Israel Cemetery. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.
Josephine Easterlin
ALBANY — Miss Josephine Easterlin, 89, of 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, died late Friday evening, June 8, 2007, at Palmyra Medical Center in Albany. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, at First United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Charles R. Puryear III and the Rev. Jim McIlrath officiating with burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers are Bill Easterlin, Abbot Easterlin, Bill Harris Jr., Lee Harris, David Harris, Walt Harris and Jimmy Williams. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Miss Easterlin was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Sumter County, the daughter of the late William Oscar Easterlin and Bertha Rose Johnson Easterlin. She attended Furlow Grammar School; graduated from Americus High School in 1935 and from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville in 1939. She also attended Georgia Southwestern Junior College in Americus for two years.
She taught school for three years before returning home upon the death of her mother in May 1948, to become secretary for her father’s farming operation and, from that time on, she cared for her father until his death at age 100. She was a member of the DAR Council of Safety chapter in Americus, UDC Americus Chapter #140 and the Andersonville Guild.
For many years, she served as hostess at the welcome center in Andersonville and gave a gracious welcome to all who visited. She was honor by the Guild upon her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the Easterling Family Genealogical Society. In 1986 they honored her with a Lifetime Membership Award for her extensive research on the Easterling family lineage. Miss. Easterlin was an active member of First United Methodist Church for eight years, joining May 8, 1927, and was a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.
Ms. Easterlin is survived by nephews, William F. Easterlin and wife Lillian of Louisville, William S. Harris and wife Ann of Americus. She was preceded in death by two other nephews, Robert Humber Easterlin and George Walter Harris Jr., whose wives Marjorie Easterlin and Harriet Harris survive. She is also survived by many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lozia C. Nichols
PERRY — Mrs. Lozia C. Nichols, 86, of 106 Merlin St., Warner Robins, died Saturday morning, June 9, 2007, at Serenity Gate Hospice Home, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, from the graveside at Oak Grove cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Gossett officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Nichols, a native of Macon County, was born Oct. 2, 1920, the daughter of the late William Cromer and Camella Cromer. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mae Kennedy and Ernest of Warner Robins; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Ethel Davis, Lois Vanzant and Hazel Harp, all of Americus and Clemmie Burgess and husband Fred of Warner Robins; brother, William Cromer of Griffin. Also surviving are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Nichols and a daughter, Gertrude Barnard.

Eddie Clarence Bridges
COLUMBUS — Funeral services for Eddie Clarence Bridges of 356 Hwy. 280 West, Americus, who passed on Monday, June 11, 2007, in the St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, from the Lebanon Baptist Church. The Rev. Hosie Waters will officiate and burial will follow in the Lebanon cemetery. There remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.
Mr. Eddie Clarence Bridges was born in Webster County on Oct. 22, 1951, to the parentage of the late Mr. R.B. Bridges and the late Mrs. Mary Lou Foster Bridges.
He leaves to mourn his passing, four brothers, Mr. James Bridges, Mr. Nathaniel Bridges, Mr. Jack Bridges and Mr. Timothy (Melinda) Bridges; six sisters, Mrs. Patricia (James) Bridges, Mrs. Mary Ann (Ray) Moses, Ms. Evelyn Bridges, Ms. Martha Ann Bridges, Ms. Jacqueline Bridges and Ms. Ealer Rose Bridges and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Agnes Louis Raines Walker
AMERICUS — Mrs. Agnes Louise Raines Walker, age 45, 1304 North Mayo St., Americus, passed Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 16 at Friendship Baptist Church, Cotton Ave., Americus. iIntermentwill follow in Lebanon Cemetery, Grangerville Community, Ideal. After the committal, there will be a fellowship dinner served at Travelers Home Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Agnes was born Jan. 21, 1962 in Macon County to Willie Faye Duncan Raines and the late Freddy Lee Raines. Two siblings preceded her in death, Robert Nathan Raines and Emma Jo Cook. She was a member of Travelers Home Baptist Church. She was a 1980 graduate of Macon County High School in Montezuma. In 1984, she graduated from South Georgia Technical College with a degree as a License Practitioner Nurse. In 1993, she acquired her degree from Georgia Southwestern University as a Registered Nurse. On June 11, 1993, she received the Outstanding Clinical Performance Award from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. After 20dedicated years of service, she retired from Sumter Regional Hospital with many awards and recognitions.
Survivors Are: a Hubsand, James Evans Walker Sr., Americus; children, Jameah Sharney Walker and James Evans Walker Jr., both of Americus; ; mother, Willie Faye Raines, Ideal; Siblings: Rosa Mae Jones (John Thomas) of Roberta, Annie Joe Phillips of Americus, Ilene Raines and Elouise Raines both of Ideal; father-in-law / mother-in-law, James and Rena Walker of Americus and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
