GLORIA WARREN JOHNSON
Mrs. Gloria Annette Warren Johnson,, age 62, of Golden Ridge Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Johnson was born on May 1, 1944 in Poughkeepie, NY, The daughter of the late Louis Warren and the late Eileen Lucas Warren. She was a member of AARP. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Orlando First Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Johnson are her loving husband, Glenn Warren of Blairsville, one brother, Frank Antenucci of WA, one sister, Virginia Butler of NY., Aunt, Gloria Dorn of Blue Ridge, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Johnson’s memory.

WILLIAM "DEACON BILL" DIEHL
Deacon William P. "Bill’ Diehl, age 72, of Hiawasse, GA, formerly of Springfield, OH, passed to his eternal reward at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Diehl was born on June 18, 1934 in Springfield, OH, the son of the late Carl Diehl and the late Roberta Patchell Diehl. He was preceded in death by his parents and also by his sisters Phoebe Green and Carolyn Rinker. Deacon Bill was a member and officer of the Plumbers Union 519 and late representative of DCSMEC the Dade County School Board Maintenance Employee’s Committee. Deacon Bill was ordained to the Deaconate in Miami in 1992 and served in Stylus Parish in Miami for four years before retiring to Hiawassee, GA in 1996. However his retirement days were short lived, he resumed his deaconate duties at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Blairsville, GA, almost immediately after arriving in Hiawassee. He and his wife Marie dedicated their lives to helping others, whether they were parishioners or members of the community, all were treated equally.
He visited the sick in their homes, in hospitals, in nursing homes to offer them Holy Communion and comfort during their illness. At St. Francis he taught RCIA and brought many converts into the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of Council 11746 from 2000 to 2002. He was a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order and during his life has been dedicated to the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, where he made several Pilgrimages for prayer and meditation. He served in the US Navy as medical corpsman during the Korean War. Although he was no longer a Floridian he was still a very faithful Miami Hurricanes football fan.
Surviving Deacon Bill are his loving wife of forty years, Marie of Hiawassee, son Robert (Sue), daughter Kelly (Charles) Frasure, granddaughter, Kasey, many nieces and nephews, that loved him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 at 1:00 pm from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville with Father Richard Wise officiating. The North Ga. Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Funeral services will also be held in Miami on Thursday at 10:00 am from the St. Louis Catholic Church with interment following in the Woodlawn North cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church building fund in Blairsville, GA, 2839 Young Harris Hwy. 30512 in memory of Deacon Bill Diehl. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7-9 pm.

GENEVIEVE DIMARTINO
Mrs. Genevieve Dimartino, age 99, of Wild Hog Creek Terrace, Suches, GA, formerly of Miami, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Dimartino was born on Oct. 25, 1906 in Italy, the daughter of the late Nichola Dimartino and the late Maria Graneri Dimartino. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy and Tessie Dimartino, also by four brothers, Joseph, Ralph, Louie and Jimmy Dimartino. Mrs. Dimartino was a member of Pine Top Baptist church.
Surviving Mrs. Dimartino are nephews, Nick and Paula Dimartino of Blairsville, Stephen and Diane Dimartino of PA, David Dimartino of NJ, Joseph Dimartino of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, one niece, Evelyn Vallario of NJ, several great nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 1:00 pm from the Pine Top Baptist church with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Joseph Dimartino, Mark Dimartino, Michael Dorman, Tony Brown, Bill Ragland and Gian Rossi Espagnet. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are accepted, or in lieu of, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee, GA.

HERBERT HOOVER ARNOLD
Mr. Herbert Hoover Arnold, age 76, of Pat Colwell Rd., Blairsville, formerly of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Arnold was born on Feb. 25, 1929 in Gwinnett County, the son of the late Will Arnold and the late Eula Griswell Arnold. He had retired from General Motors with over thirty years of service. He was an active member of the Union County Lions club, A member of the American Legion Post #16 of Cleveland, GA, A member of the VFW of Hiawassee and a member of the Lake Improvement Assc. Herbert was an expert fisherman and hunter. He was an avid gardener. Herbert was a loving and devoted husband and father. Mr. Arnold was a member of the House of Prayer church.
Surviving Mr. Arnold are his loving wife of fifty-five years, Mary Blair Arnold of Blairsville, son, Michael Arnold of Lula, two Brothers and sisters-in-laws, Edwin & Edna Arnold of Jefferson, Harry & Edna Arnold of Lawrenceville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at 11:00 am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton, Carl Buser, Ken Castle and Gilmer Vandiver officiating. Special music will be presented by Cheri Parker. Graveside services and interment will follow at 4:00 pm from the E. ShadowLawn cemetery in Lawrenceville with Rev. Charles Dispain officiating. The following gentleman will served as pallbearers, Waymon and Donnis Tullis, Billy Dupree, Billie Haney, Tim Little and Bill Parker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Union County Lions Club and Members of the American Legion.

ANTOINETTE RUSK
Mrs. Antoinette Rusk, age 63, of Pat Colwell Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Rusk was born on March 15, 1942 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of the late Glenn Brookins and the late Alma Gurnack Brookins. Mrs. Rusk, along with her husband, Jack have been living in Blairsville for the past twenty-five years, moving here from Florida. Mrs. Rusk attended the House of Prayer Church.
Surviving Mrs. Rusk are her loving husband, Jack Rusk of Blairsville, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Floyd and Martha Rusk of Buford, GA, Robert and Debbie Rusk of Blairsville, Steven Rusk of Blairsville, one daughter, Dorothy Rusk of Blairsville, three brothers and one sister-in-law, Bubsey and Carol Brookins of Miami, FL, Michael Brookins of Florida, Robert Brookins of FL, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

CARL WINFORD QUEEN
Mr. Carl Winford Queen, age 71, of Jimmy Nicholson Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Queen was born on Sept. 1, 1934 in Union County, The son of the late Tom Bell Queen and the late Nora Elizabeth Reece Queen. He retired from Lockheed in Marietta with over thirty-eight years of service. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM in Marietta. Carl loved to play music and played the bass fiddle. He was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Mr. Queen was a member of Shady Grove Methodist church.
Surviving Mr. Queen are his loving wife of forty-nine years, Shirley Entrekin Queen of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Katrice and Tim Brewster of Woodstock, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gregory and Linda Queen of Marietta, Gerald Queen of Dallas, GA, Steve and Teresa Queen of Blairsville, one sister, Fran Kirkland of Blairsville, two brothers and sisters-in-law, B. J. and Carmella Queen of Blairsville, Durwood and Katherine Queen of Woodstock, six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bob Bone officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, B. J. Queen, Gregory Queen, Steve Queen, Tim Greer, Cliff Reisig and Tim Brewster. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Methodist church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9 pm.

SHIRLEY H. HENSEL
Mrs. Shirley H. Hensel, age 72, of Gumlog Rd., Young Harris, passed away on Monday, Aug. 8, 2005 in the North East Ga. Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Hensel was born on March 20, 1933 in Athens, OH, the daughter of the late Samuel Henderson and the late Erma Thompson Henderson. She had made her home in Towns County after, moving here from Tampa, FL. Before her retirement she was employed with the Towns County School system. Mrs. Hensel was of the Methodist Faith.
Surviving Mrs. Hensel are her loving husband of twenty three years, Edward Hensel of Yong Harris, one daughter, Chris Brooks of Young Harris, Six Step children, Edward and Kay Hensel of Gainesville, FL, Douglas Hensel and Christopher Hensel both of IL, Helena Medgebow of Tampa, FL, Regina and Craig Carlton, Blane Hensel all of Tampa, one sister, Betty Butts of Athens, OH, one brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Marriam Henderson of Athens, OH, six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will follow at a later date and will be announced.

LAWRENCE "DIP" HOUK
Mr. Lawrence “Dip” Houk, age 67, of Pardeeville, WI, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005 in Blairsville, GA, while on vacation following a sudden illness. Mr. Houk was born on Nov. 16, 1938 in Dousman, WI, the son of the late Edward Houk and the late Katherine Farber Houk. He retired from the Unimin Corporation in 2001. Mr. Houk was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church. Dip was a High School Umpire for twenty-five years, He also Umpired softball for twenty-five years. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and most of all, his second home in Boulder Junction, WI, where he and Marilyn enjoyed fishing, golfing and on an occasional run to the casino. He enjoyed his woodworking at home. Dip did so enjoy his Tuesday afternoon golf at Saddle Ridge with all of the great, new friends which he met there. Dip will be sadly missed by all who knew him. ”We love you, Dip” Marilyn and Kids.
Surviving Dip are his loving wife of forty-seven years, Marilyn Howe Houk of Pardeeville, WI, four sons and two daughters-in-law, Dale and his fiancée Cynthia (Crockett) Houk of Young Harris, Dean Houk of Oxford, NC, Douglas Houk of Portage, WI, Daniel and Sherri Houk of Pardeeville, WI, one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Charles Curtis of Pardeeville, two sisters and one brother survive, Also a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Sue Howe of AK, seven grandchildren, Amy, Bethany, Paul, Mitchell, Garrett and Spence Houk and Eric Curtis, one great grandchild, Ethen Smith, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005 at 10:00 am from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pardeeville, WI, with Father John Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow in the Pardeeville cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the Smith Funeral Home in Pardeeville on Monday evening from 4-8 pm.

SARAH MONA MATTHEWSON
Mrs. Sarah Mona Matthewson, age 78, of Cherokee Forest, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Matthewson was born on March 8, 1927 in Bethlehem, PA, The daughter of the late Idris John Watkins and the late Sarah Elizabeth Randall Watkins. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Wesley Matthewson. She had made her home in Blairsville for the past twenty-four years moving here from Miramar, FL. Mrs. Matthewson was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving Mrs. Matthewson are two daughters and one son-in-law, Sally Gregory of Blairsville, Julie and Doug Green of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Mary Matthewson of Cleveland, GA, one brother, David Watkins of Florida, one sister, Peggy Clark of Ruidoso Down, NM., Five Grandchildren, Christian, Sarah, Kaitlyn, Hannah and Jacob, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at 4:00 pm from the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Blairsville Mountain Shelter Humane Society in Mrs. Matthewson's memory.
