Mrs. Frankie Mae Fortenberry, age 87 of Owltown Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Fortenberry was born on Nov. 2, 1918 in Union County, The daughter of the late William Frank Summerour and the late Florence Edna Gillespie Summerour. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Gibson Cook in 2006.Mrs.Fortenberry was a member of the Coosa United Methodist church.
Surviving Mrs. Fortenberry are her loving husband of twenty years, Vernon Fortenberry of Blairsville, one daughter, Susan Elaine Alexander of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ira Eugene Gibson of Shelby, NC., Jerry Martin and Teresa Gibson of Hendersonville, TN., four step sons and daughters-in-law, J. W. and Janice Fortenberry of Blairsville, Mitchell and Betty Jo Fortenberry of Adairsville, GA, Jimmy and Ann Fortenberry of of Rome, GA, Randy and Sharon Fortenberry of Blairsville, three sisters and one brother in law, Sue Summerour, Shirley Brackett, Katherine and Norman Bachelor all of Blairsville, eleven grandchildren, Waylon and Holly Gibson, Dawn and Larry Cook, Pam Madden, Veda, Janice, and Roberta Weaver, Destinee, Heather and Shane Gibson, fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at 2:00pm from the Coosa Methodist Church with the Rev. Katie Strals and Rev. Earl Bishop officiating. Special music will be presented by Bo Hinson. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Tim Levi, Kevin Edwards, Jim Duncan, .Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-9pm.

PARKER REED HAMBELTON SR.
Mr. Parker Reed Hambelton Sr., age 82 of Baberry Ln. Blairsville formerly of Ft. Pierce, FL. passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Hambelton was born on Sept. 11, 1923 in Ft.Pierce, FL, the son of the late Leslie Hambelton and the late Jesse Parker Hambelton. He was retired from the US Marine Corps and served in the WWII, The Korean War and The Vietnam War. Mr. Hambelton was of the Presbyterian Faith.
Surviving Mr. Hambelton are his wife of fifty eight years, Dorothy Sullivan Hambelton of Hilton Head, SC., Two sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Charlie Hambelton of Ft. Pierce, FL, Reed Hambelton of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jim Lindsey of Ft. Pierce, Candy and Darren Gordon of Hilton Head, SC., one brother, Denny Hambelton of FL, eight Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

LEO CHASTAIN
Mr. Leo Chastain, age 51 of Goldmine Rd. Young Harris passed away on Monday, October 10, 2005 in Union County. Mr. Chastain was born on Feb. 2, 1954 in Hayesville, NC., The son of the late James Thomas Chastain and the late Vernia Garrett Chastain. At the time of his death he was employed with the Fannin County Road Department. He had lived in Union County for the past thirty one years. Mr. Chastain was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Chastain are his loving wife of thirty one years, Rita Chastain of Young Harris, one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Shayla Chastain of Blairsville, Three sisters and brother in laws, Emma and Roy Free of Warne, NC., Iona and Carl Campbell of Lincolntin, NC., Blanche and Thomas Teems of Henry County, VA., four Brothers and three sisters-in-law, His twin brother Leon and Geneva Chastain, Wallace and Shirley Chastain, Billy and Rita Chastain, and Clifford Chastain all of Hayesville, One Grandchild, Shelby Chastain, Two Step Grandchildren, Ashley Johnson and Trevor Gordon, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005 at 11:00 am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Thomas Teems officiating. Special music will be presented by members of Bethel Baptist Church. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Daniel McGaha, Ricky Brown, Chris Chastain, Timothy Chastain, Jason Chastain and Roy Free Jr. Interment will follow in the Henderson Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm.

WILLIAM CARLOS HENDERSON
Mr. William Carlos Henderson, age 47 of James Henderson Rd. Young Harris passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Henderson was born on Feb. 16, 1958 in Hiawassee, GA, The son of Jim and Alice Henderson. He had lived all of his life in Union County.Mr. Henderson was a member of Many Forks Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Henderson are his parents, James and Alice Henderson of the home, three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Doug and Brenda Henderson of Blairsville, Darrell and Mary Henderson of Brasstown, NC., and Sammy Henderson of Young Harris, two Nephews, Eric Henderson of Young Harris and Dustin Henderson of Blairsville, two Nieces, Vanessa and Haley Henderson of Brasstown, NC., one great Niece, Angyll Henderson of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. R. L. Martin officiating. Special music will be a selection of Carlos’s favorite hymns. The Remains will be scattered at a later date. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9 pm.

HAZEL MARCUM GARRETT
Mrs. Hazel Marcum Garrett, age 77 of Coker Hill Drive Hayesville, formerly of New Port, MI. passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005 in the Murphy Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Garrett was born on March 5, 1928 in Garrett, KY., The daughter of the late Ranson Marcum and the late Loustela Ward Marcum. She had retired from the Riverside Hospital in Trenton, MI. with over twenty one years of service. Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Monroe Full Gospel Church.
Surviving Mrs. Garrett are her loving husband of twenty five years, John Herbert Garrett of Hayesville, Four Step children, Donna Mae Sirls of Canton, NC., Nancy Hyle, Shirley Blanton and Mary Ann Manis all of Sylvia, NC., Steve and Patricia Connely of New Port, MI., two sisters, Grace Heath of Columbus, OH., Janice Willard of River Rouge, MI., two brothers, Junior Marcum of Whiteburg, KY., Willard Marcum of Oxford, MI., two grandchildren, Ben Blanton and Jennifer McMahan, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 17, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Dyer and Rev. Lloyd Ledford officiating. Special music will be presented by Lewis and Olene Dyer. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, David Womble, Caroll Weaver, Harold West, Jack Brown, Alvin Dyer and Ned Gooch. Interment will follow in the Woody-Wilkins cemetery in Suches, GA.

RAYMOND BRANCE MURPHY
Mr. Raymond (Better known as Brance) Murphy, age 73 of Murphy Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Murphy was born on Oct. 15, 1933 in Cherokee, NC., the son of the late Luther Murphy and the late Hattie Roberts Murphy. He was a veteran of the US Army with a rank as Master Sgt. He was a member of Young Cane Lodge # 597 F&AM. Brance loved Blue Grass music and enjoyed playing the guitar. His favorite hobbies were fishing and going out to eat. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Sharon Murphy in 1958.Mr. Murphy was a member of Jones Creek Church of God.
Surviving Mr. Murphy are his loving wife, Mary Queen Murphy of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Susan Murphy of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and David Hughes of Blairsville, two step sons, William and Jerry Cook of Blairsville, two step daughters, Sandra Seabolt and Sheila Beavers both of Blairsville, brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Doris Murphy of Blairsville, sister and brother in law, Edna and Elbert Towe of Smyrna, GA, four grandchildren, Christy Jones, Tommy Murphy Jr., Tonya Woodard, and Koby Hughes, one great-grandchild, Kaelyn Jones, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 4:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Terrell Jones, Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music will be presented by Hwy 76 and Angie Burrell. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Koby Hughes, Christopher Woodard, Darren Jones, Shane Murphy, Tommy Murphy Jr. and Gary Beavers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Charles and Bud Murphy, Gollie Easter, Ben Burrell and Jerry Cook. Interment will follow in the Queen Cemetery with the North GA. Honor Guard conducting Military Honors and the Young Cane Lodge # 597 Conducting Masonic Rites.

Mrs. Lois Chaney Leftwich, age 68 of Sharp Top Circle formerly of Newnan, GA, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Leftwich was born on Dec. 8, 1938 in Roanoke, VA., the daughter of the late Lacy Edmond Chaney and the late Easter May Likins Chaney. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Leftwich was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Leftwich are her loving husband of forty seven years, Gerald Leftwich of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Greg Leftwich of Sharpsburg, VA., Gary and Rebecca Leftwich of Carrollton, GA, three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Edmond and Ann Chaney of S. Boston, VA., Herman and Margie Chaney of Roanoke, VA., Harold Chaney of Bedford, VA., three sisters and two brother in laws, Lettie Perez of Edenburg, VA., Doris and Homer Simmons of Moneta, VA., Sarah and Chuck Hill of Vinton, VA., three grandchildren, Emory, Savannah and Asher, many other relatives and friends also survive.

BEN STEIN
Mr. Ben Stein, age 90 of Kiutuestia Creek Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Stein was born on April 25, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY., the son of the late Max Stein and the late Lena Raff Stein. He retired from A-1 Fire fighting Equipment in Phoenix, AZ. after several years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Guren Stein and also by a sister, Florence Holtz. Mr. Stein was of the Jewish faith.
Surviving Mr. Stein are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Earl Conlon of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Sol and Rosanna Stein of CA., many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Blairsville Mountain Shelter in Mr. Stein’s memory.

PHYLLIS JEAN PANDER
Mrs. Phyllis Jean Pander, age 60 of Nottley Trace Blairsville formerly of Ellwood City, PA. passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007 after fighting a long hard battle, She received her reward from her Lord. Mrs. Pander was born on Nov. 18, 1946 in Ellwood City, PA., the daughter of the late Charles Walter Simmons and the late Esther Schramm. She was a Registered Nurse for over thirty years, and was currently employed at Union General and Fannin Regional Hospitals. She was a very loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed .Mrs. Pander was a member of the Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Surviving Mrs. Pander are her loving husband of forty years, Thomas Pander Sr. of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Susie Pander of Englewood, FL, Tom and Beaverly Pander of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Mike Presnar of Ellwood City, PA., two sisters and one brother in law, Margaret Cron of Unionville, PA., Nancy and Dave Dishler of Rochester, PA., two brothers Robert Simmons of Levitown, PA., Richard Simmons of Ellwood City, PA., eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. K. Travis Adams officiating. Funeral services will also be held on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Marshall Funeral Home in Ellwood City, PA., with visitation being held on Wednesday evening from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Wurtemburg Cemetery.
