JERRY SWAYNE PLOTT

Mr. Jerry Swayne Plott, age 67 of Doc Jones Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 in the Murphy Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Plott was born on May 11, 1938 in Union County, The son of the late Edward Hubert Plott and the late Bennie Hutson Plott. He was a native of Union County. Mr. Plott was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Plott are one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Coot Martin of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Becky Plott of Loganville, GA, one brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Delphia Plott of Blairsville, five Grandchildren, Cullen and Nevin Robertson, Haley, Hannah and Hadrian Plott many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at 1:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with Phillip Meeks officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that donations may be made to the American Lung Association in Mr. Plott’s memory.

MAZEL BERNICE HUNT

Mrs. Mazel Bernice Hunt, age 73 of the Old Blue Ridge hwy Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 following an extended illness. Mrs. Hunt was born on June 13, 1932 in Towns County, GA, The daughter of the late Frank Gribble and the late Dollie Cruise Gribble. She had worked at Georgia Boot for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Hunt and a brother Hoyt Gribble. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. Mrs. Hunt was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Hunt are one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Michelle Rich of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Smith of Loganville, GA, two sisters, Mozella Crouch of Ocala, FL, Monette Rhodes of SC., two Grandchildren, Kerry Jayne Rich and Brian Plumley, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earl Pickelsimer and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Butt, Mike Brown, David Miller, Brian Plumley, Ted Lunsford and Bill Smith. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery.

JAIMESON DREW SNOW

Jaimeson Drew Snow, age 17 of Pleasant hill Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 in Lumpkin County following injuries received in an automobile accident. Jaimeson was born on Jan. 31, 1988 in Union County, The son of John William Snow Jr. and Janene Henson Snow. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School system. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Jimmy Henson and Fumiko Snow. Jaimeson attended the First Baptist church.

Surviving Jaimeson are his parents, John William Snow Jr. of Blairsville, Janene Henson Gray of Loganville, GA, three brothers, John William Snow III, Kyle Snow and Caleb Snow all of Blairsville, Grandparents, Joyce Henson of Blairsville, John William Snow Sr. of Blairsville, Great-Grandparents, Reba and William Newsome, Uncles and Aunts, Jason and Amy Henson, Jared and Helen Henson, Jennifer Howard, Pat and Denise Snow and Henry Snow, Cousins, Jordyn Howard, Misty, Brandy, Brooke, Ashley, Daniel and Dylan Snow, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at 4:00 pm from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Lodge and Rev. Chris Miller officiating. Special music will be presented by Terry Hooper. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Trey Gunter, Matt Forrester, Justin Jones, Lee Goodman, Evan Albright and Shane McDonald. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery.

BEVERLY MAE WOLKOM

Mrs. Beverly Mae Wolkom, age 78 of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Wolkom was born on April 10, 1927 in Alpena, NJ., the daughter of the late Jonathan Thomson and the late Ida Burt Thomson. She had been employed as a Book Keeper and retired in 1988.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis Wood and also by her second husband, Jim Wolkom. Mrs. Wolkom was a member of the Coosa United Methodist church.

Surviving Mrs. Wolkom are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharin and George Perricone of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Helen Thomson of Florida, one sister, Ida Roberts of Michigan, two grandchildren, Tracy Perricone of Blairsville, George and wife Karen Perricone of Blairsville, one Great-Grandchild, Noah Perricone of Blairsville, Nephew and God Son, Anthony Cosentino and family of Ocean Port, NJ., several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 at 10:00 am from the Coosa Methodist Church with the Rev. Katie Strals officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, George Perricone, George Perricone Jr., Bradley O’Brien, and Cane Hayes. Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in West Long Branch, NJ. at a later date.

HENRY LEANDER HOWARD

Mr. Henry Leander Howard, age 86 of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville, formerly of Merkel, TX., passed away on Friday, January 20, 2006 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Howard was born on Aug. 18, 1919 in Montgomery, AR., The son of the late Samuel J. Howard and the late Lillie Standridge Howard. He retired as a Purchasing Manager with the Rural Electric co-op in Merkel, TX. He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Nadine Clack Howard in 2001.Mr. Howard was a member of the First Baptist church of Merkel.

Surviving Mr. Howard are one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jerry Brooks of Murphy, NC., one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Larry and Mary Howard of San Angelo, TX., four Grandchildren, Lisa Brooks of Tampa, FL, Lance Brooks of Big Coppitt, FL, Robin Howard of Austin, TX., Melody and Steve Verm of San Antonio, TX., one Great-Grandchild, Taran Verm, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 at 2:00 pm from the First Baptist church of Merkel, TX., with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosehill cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel on Monday evening from 7:30-9pm.

John (Jack) Joseph Byrnes

John J. "Jack" Byrnes, age 71, of J. V. Ledford Road, Young Harris, GA, went home to his Lord on July 23, 2007. He passed away peacefully in his home after a long illness.

Mr. Byrnes was born in Jamaica, NY, on September 22, 1935 to Henry Patrick and Cecilia Loretta (Gordon) Byrnes. He moved to the Young Harris area in 1999 after residing in many places during his career.

Mr. Byrnes was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He then began his career with the FAA engaged in air traffic control. He volunteered for tours in Vietnam, Thailand and Iran, helping those countries to upgrade their air traffic control services. He more recently worked as FAA liason to the Joint Special Operations Command, helping to coordinate special forces missions worldwide. He retired after more than forty years of Federal service.

Mr. Byrnes was preceded in death by son Todd, age 22, brother Patrick and sister Arline. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Janet "Jan, " son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Carmen O'Byrne and grandchildren Brittany and Ethan O'Byrne of City Island NY, son and daughter-in-law Jason and Christina Byrnes of Newnan, GA, and sister (in-law) Joan DeCamp of Daytona Beach, FL.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 27, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with Chaplin Bob Woodstock officiating.Music was presented by Joshua Craig performing with Bagpipes.Interment followed in the Laurel Hills Cemetery with the North Ga.Honor Guard conducting military honors.

LINNIE LEONA KILLIAN

Mrs. Linnie Leona Killian, age 76 of Honeysuckle Ln. Blairsville went home to be with Jesus on Friday, July 27, 2007 from an extended illness. Leona was born on March 12, 1931 to the late Henry Warren and the late Katherine Sparks Warren. She was also preceded in death by her wonderful husband John William (Bill) Killian of forty five years and one infant son, Joey Killian. She built her life around her family and church. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and was very active in directing and singing in the choir.

Surviving Mrs. Killian are her sons and daughters in laws, John Raymond and Donna Kay Killian, Royce Lee and Barbara Jean Killian all of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Helen and Zane Richard Marsh of Oakwood, GA, two living sisters, Ana Lee Rogers of Fannin County, Odith Ballew of the Union County Nursing Home, six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, 10 great step grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 2:30pm from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Beavers and Rev. Chad Underwood officiating. Special music will be presented by the Kelley Trio. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Joey Marsh, Corey Marsh, Darren Hughes, Blake Melton, J. E. Corn and Cecil Warren. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

W. HORACE SMITH

Mr. W. Horace Smith, age 79 of 12 Point Rd. Blairsville formerly of Rootsville, GA, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Smith was born on Oct. 9, 1927 in Bibb County, AL., the son of the late Hugh Smith and the late Nora Levens Smith. He was a retired Policeman and had served with the City of Denver for over eighteen years. He was a veteran of the US Marines of WWII. One of his favorite hobbies was his garden and also loved to travel. Horace never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Smith in 1995.Mr. Smith was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Smith are his loving wife of thirty nine years, Barbara Allen Smith of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Gil Slegl of Barnesville, GA, Monica and Louis Brindisi of Grand Junction, CO., one son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Amy Smith of Aurora, CO., one brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Ramona Smith of Albany, GA, eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 10:00am from the Providence United Methodist Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Gibson officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Providence U. M. C. Cemetery fund in Mr. Smith’s memory.
