Mr. Ray A. Lindsey, 61, of Ocilla died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Lindsey was born August 23, 1941 in Irwin county, son of the late Ada Bell Allen Lindsey and Archie Monroe Lindsey.
Mr. Lindsey lived in the community since 1966, moving from Tallahassee, FL. He was the Owner/Operator of Lindsey Auto Parts in Ocilla and Tallahassee, FL. He was a former resident of Jacksonville, FL, a former member of the Tallahassee Elks Lodge and a former employee of Yocam Diamond Battery Co. in Tallahassee. As a hobby, Mr. Lindsey raised horses, goats, ducks, emus and other exotic animals. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Carol N. Lindsey of Ocilla; son, Greg Lindsey of Juliette; daughter, LaWanda L. Green of Ocilla; step-sons, Billy Adams, of Anchorage, Alaska, Jim Adams of Gypsum, CO, David Adams of Tallahassee, FL; step-daughters, Darlene Coxwell of Havana, FL, Carol Hofmann and Jodi Adams, both of Tallahassee, FL; brothers, Wayne Lindsey of Tallahassee, FL and Troy Lindsey of Farmington Hills, MI; sisters, Wylene Kirkland and Elise Story, both of Jacksonville, FL and Mary Lou Skelton of Hilliard, FL; and ten grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Lax Holiness Church in Irwin County with Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers were Marcus Denney, John Wilson, Darryl Ross, Bill Rutherford, Michael Rutherford and Allen Green.
Interment was held at Lax Cemetery in Irwin County.

Sonny Lynn Walker
Mr. Sonny Lynn Walker of Ocilla died Sunday, May 18, 2003 in Tifton. He was 22.
Mr. Walker was born June 7, 1980 in Charleston, SC, son of Talmage Emilio Walker of Ocilla and the late Debora Ann Morancy Walker.
Mr. Walker had lived in the community since 1997 coming from Fitzgerald. He was a 1999 graduate of Irwin County High School. He attended First Baptist Church in Tifton and was an Overnight Lead Associate for Wal-Mart in Tifton.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Talmage and Kelly Walker of Ocilla; sister and brother-in-law, Wendi and Robert Felice of Guam; step-sister, Allison M. Fenton of Casper, WY brothers, Tracy Walker and Mark Walker, both of Ocilla; fiancee, Brandi Leann Miles of Tifton; paternal grandparents, Lorenzal and Alice Harper of Wray, maternal grandmother, Nancy E. Morancy of Fitzgerald; step-grandfather, Matthew D. Fenton of Casper, WY and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla on Thursday, May 22 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Tracy Clements officiating.
Interment will be at Henderson Chapel Cemetery in Irwin County.

C. Vinson Walters II
Mr. C. Vinson Walters II, 42, of Ocilla died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at his residence.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 at the Ocilla Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of W. Emory Walters at Forest Estates in Ocilla Tuesday evening.
Mr. Walters was born May 26, 1960 in Macon to Ann T. Smith and W. Emory Walters. Mr. Walters was an attorney with Walters and Pujadas in Ocilla. He was a 1978 graduate of Irwin County High School, a 1987 graduate of Abraham Baldwin College, 1989 graduate of the University of Georgia and a 1992 graduate of the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. Mr. Walters was a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and the Tifton Circuit Bar Association. He was co-founder of the Georgia Handicapped Sportsman Association.
Mr. Walters was a devoted son and is survived by his father, W. Emory Walters of Ocilla and loving mother, Anne T. Smith of Tifton. Many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive him.

Minnie L. Roberts
Mrs. Minnie L. Roberts of Ocilla died Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Osceola Nursing Home, Ocilla. She was 97.
Mrs. Roberts was born October 21, 1905 in Elbert County, daughter of the late Blanche Gunter Wheelis and R. B. Wheelis.
Mrs. Roberts had lived in the community most of her life. She was a seamstress for Crouch’s Cleaners. She was a member of Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rafe Roberts as well as four sons, Amon Roberts, Ralph Roberts, Harmon Roberts and Barney Roberts.
Survivors include sons, W. B. Roberts and Hugh Roberts, both of Ocilla and Troy Roberts of Fitzgerald; daughter, Margie Horne of Perry; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Irwin County on Monday, May 19 at 11 a.m., with Elder Charles Tyson officiating.
Interment was held at Old Valley Grove Cemetery.

Ben Dixon
Mr. Ben Dixon of Ocilla died Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at Irwin County Hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Dixon was born August 26, 1930 in Irwin County, son of the late Maude (Young) Dixon and Jake Dixon.
Mr. Dixon lived in the community all of his life. He was a retired trackman machine operator with CSX Railroad and a former employee of White Pest Control and a farmer. Mr. Dixon was a member of the Maintenance of Way Union and a member of Holt Baptist Church, Irwin County.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie J. Dorminy Dixon of Ocilla; daughter, Rhonda Gail Dixon of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Benjamin Corey Dixon and Kristen Lynn Dixon; brother, Jimmy Dixon of Ocilla; sisters, Ethel Turner of Fitzgerald and Jane Dixon of Crown Point, IN.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald on Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m., with Rev. David Biggers officiating.
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Cleon Lott, Bruce Eidson, Jerry Thomas, Johnny Dixon, Mike Dixon and Jim Denmark.
Honorary pallbearers were Mary Ruth Foster and Jerry Rathburn.

David Brown
Mr. David Brown of Fitzgerald died Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Dorminy Medical Center. He was 54.
Mr. Brown was born May 27, 1948 in Fitzgerald, son of the late Annie Dell Ingram Brown and Otis Shelton Brown.
Mr. Brown had lived in the community and in Rome most of his life. He was a former delivery man for Kimball’s Dairy and manager of an automobile dealership in Atlanta. He was a carpenter and a member of the Moose Lodge #2122. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his companion, Elizabeth Graham of Rome; daughter, Tonya Grimsley of Ocilla; brothers, Wayne Brown of Ocilla; Gene Brown, Johnny Brown, Ronald Brown, Sr., Bill Brown, J. C. Brown and Mack Brown, all of Fitzgerald and Jerry Brown of California; sisters, Glenda Cravey and Janie Grantham, both of Fitzgerald; Barbara Hagedorn of Gadsden, AL; Dora Ann McCrimmon of Ty Ty and two grandchildren.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home on Monday, May 19 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Greg Carroll officiating.
Interment was private.

James Reavis “Root” Tucker
James Reavis “Root” Tucker, 64, of Manchester, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta.
Services were held at Macedonia Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 14 at 2 p.m., with Rev. John Simmons officiating, assisted by Rev. Andy Hammack and Rev. Donnie Morgan.
Burial with Masonic honors followed in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were The Tant’s Cafe Breakfast Club, Csx Railroad Coworkers and members of Stephens Lodge #586 F&AM.
Mr. Tucker was born May 6, 1939 in Berrien County, a son of Eddie E. Tucker and Mary Jane Seymour Tucker. He retired in October 2001 as a conductor for Csx Railroad. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and Stephens Masonic Lodge #586 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Morgan Tucker of Manchester; two sons, James Reavis “Jimmy” Tucker, Jr. of Fitzgerald and Eddie (and Paula) Tucker of Alapaha; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dana T. Willis (and Todd) of Woodstock, Karen Ireland (and Todd) of Tifton; two stepsons, Tim and Tony Duke of Manchester; a step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Tina Mahaffey (and Jimmy) of Zebulon; a brother, Joe Tucker of Alapaha; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice LaFred Lott.

Jackie Tucker Smith
Mrs. Jackie Tucker Smith of Hazelhurst died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Sunbridge Care & Rehab in Hazelhurst. She was 76.
Mrs. Smith was born November 14, 1926 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Gussie (McMillan) Tucker and Virgil Robert Tucker.
Mrs. Smith was a former resident of Irwin County and Douglas where she was a former employee of Tyson Processing Plant and Kaminsky & Sons in Fitzgerald.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith.
Survivors include sons, Jimmy Manning of Franklin, TN; Billy Manning of Tampa, FL; Jessie Manning of Champagne, IL; Larry Manning of Ocilla; Gary Denmark of Atlanta; Steve Manning of Roswell; Terry Walker of Milan and Bobby Manning of Gray; daughters, Betty Jo Padgett of Jacksonville and Linda Manning of California and several grandchildren.
Gravesde services were held at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald on Wednesday, May 14 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bobby Stone officiating.

Cora Ruby R. Paulk
Mrs. Cora Ruby R. Paulk of Ocilla died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Osceola Nursing Home, Ocilla. She was 91.
Mrs. Paulk was born July 27, 1911 in Turner County, daughter of the late Nettie Pearl (Renew) Ross and James Daniel Ross, Sr.
Mrs. Paulk lived in the community most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Henderson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County.
She was preceded in death by husband, Warren Waldo Paulk, Sr., four sisters and seven brothers.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Herschel L., Sr. and Gail Paulk of Guyton and Warren W., Jr. and Ellen Paulk of Ocilla; grandchildren and spouses, Gena and Greg Tyler of Hoschton, Kimberly and Thomas Healey of Acworth, Herschel and Terri Paulk of Guyton, Libba and Bret McKinney of Ankeny, IA and Londa and Kevin Alderink of Zeeland, MI; brother, Dr. Albert Ross of Snellville; sister, Pearl Padgett of Irwin County and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Henderson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church on Friday, May 9 at 11 a.m., with Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Eulogy was given by Herschel Paulk, Jr.
Music was provided by pianist, Betty McIntyre who also led the congregation in singing.
Pallbearers were Charles Ross, Jimmy Ross, Harold Langdale, Harry Harrington, Jr., Kenneth Ross, Gerald Ross.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Paulk, Jimmy Edgar, Bill Sumner, Seymore Harper, Stanley Tomberlin, Reggie Gibbs, Danny Paulk, Virgil Spicer and Heritage Care staff and residents.

Elsie Harper Griffin
Mrs. Elsie Harper Griffin of Fitzgerald died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald. She was 79.
Mrs. Griffin was born August 28, 1923 in Irwin County, daughter of the late John J. Harper and Louvinia Ring Harper.
A homemaker, Mrs. Griffin had lived in the community since 1955 from Ocilla. She served as a minister’s wife and help mate to Bro. Griffin and they served churches all over south Georgia including Wray, Riverside, Jowers Chapel, Eastside, Salem and Calvary Holiness Churches.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Thurman M. Griffin of Fitzgerald; two sons and daughters-in-law, T. Darold and Linda Griffin of Ocilla and Steve and Linda Griffin of Fitzgerald; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Harper of Ocilla and one sister, Christine H. Wiley of Irwinville.
Services were held at Ocilla Church of God on Monday, May 12 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Edsel Young and Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating.
Pallbearers were Raburn Harper, Lamonte Griffin, James Wiley, Gerald Faulkner, Robert Harper and Wallace Peacock.
Music was provided by Kenny Croft, Wendy Dowd and The Cady Sisters.
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery.
Larry F. Bateman
Mr. Larry F. Bateman of Alpharetta died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at his residence. He was 55.
Mr. Bateman was born January 2, 1948 in Bibb County, son of Ouida (Myrick) Bateman of Macon and the late Huff Bateman.
Mr. Bateman lived in Atlanta for more than 30 years where he attended Georgia State University. He worked for Colony Bank in Atlanta. Mr. Bateman was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served at the Pentagon.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Disney of Alpharetta; his mother, Ouida Bateman of Macon; brother, Ronald Bateman of Forest Park; grandson, Michael Disney of Alpharetta; sister, Patricia Murray of Macon; companion, Mark Wetzel of Alpharetta.
Services were held at Chapel of Roswell Funeral Home in Roswell on Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m., with Elder Charles Tyson officiating.
Interment was held in Old Valley Grove Cemetery in Irwin County at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Jackie Smith
Mrs. Jackie Smith of Hazelhurst died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Sun Bridge Care and Rehab in Hazelhurst. She was 76.
Mrs. Smith was born November 14, 1926 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Virgil Robert Tucker and Gussie McMillan Tucker.
Mrs. Smith was a former resident of Douglas and Ocilla. She was a former employee of the processing plant in Douglas.
Mary Jo Lokey
Mrs. Mary Jo Lokey of Lenox died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was 54.
Mrs. Lokey was born June 28, 1948 in Irwin County.
A fulltime mother and grandmother, she lived most of her life in Lenox.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Scott Scarborough and her husband, Thomas Mallie Lokey.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Jody and Zinda Lokey of Ocilla and Samuel Lokey of Ashburn; daughter, Anna Lokey of Cairo; grandchildren, Gage Lokey, Coty Patrick and Teddie Patrick; three sisters, Myra Lee Brooks of Summer; Lenora Luke of Lake City, FL and Peggy Robinson of Sparks.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Ike Jefferson and Rev. Johnny Moore officiating.
Interment will be in Brushy Creek Church Cemetery in Irwin County.
