Carole Clark Mason
Carole Clark Mason of Fitzgerald died Friday, July 18, 2003 at her residence. She was 61.
Mrs. Mason was born January 19, 1942 in Vidalia, daughter of the late Marie Stanley Clark and Sid Clark.
Mrs. Mason lived in the community since 1974 from Jesup. She grew up in Lyons where she was a 1960 honor graduate of Lyons High School and senior class president. She graduated from Georgia Southern College with a degree in sociology, teaching at Moultrie High School, Screven County High School and Northside High School in Warner Robins. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Fitzgerald. Mrs. Mason was a former member of the Fitzgerald Jaycetts. She was co-owner of Mason’s Home Furnishings and Decorating.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Susie Mason and Andy Mason; grandchildren, Dylan and Logan Mason, all of Fitzgerald; brother, William N. “Billy” Clark, Sr of Lyons.
Services were held at Central United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 20 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Steve Waldorf officiating.
Music was provided by pianist, Becky Anderson; organist, Brian Morris; saxaphonist, Cal Miller and soloist, Karla Foster.
Pallbearers were Wesley Griffin, Lance Luke, Tony Youngblood, Tony Moncus, Dale Wilson, Corey Gibbs.
Honorary pallbearers were former and present employees of Mason’s Home Furnishings.
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Blue-Gray Community Hospice, Fitzgerald or Central UMC PreSchool in Fitzgerald.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Fredrick T. “Freddie” Jacobs, II
Mr. Fredrick T. “Freddie” Jacobs, II of Fitzgerald died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at his residence. He was 58.
Mr. Jacobs was born September 17, 1944 in Irwin County, son of the late Mary Etta (Gunn) Jacobs and George Marshall Jacobs.
Mr. Jacobs lived in the community most of his life. He was a former technician at Opalika Mfg., Fitzgerald Mills, Modern Fibers and Shaw Industries. Mr. Jacobs was an avid fisherman, coin collector and model car collector.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Dianne Jacobs of Fitzgerald; sons, Fredrick T. “Tony” Jacobs III of Mesa, AZ, Patrick Jacobs of Fitzgerald; daughter, Mary Diann Rogers of Rebecca; brothers, Wallace Keeny of Panama City, FL, W. F. “Billy” Jacobs of Fitzgerald; sister, Tilma K. Portivent of Fitzgerald and five grandchidlren.
Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a.m
Paulk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert “Bob” McDuffie
Mr. Robert T McDuffie, 83, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Dublin V.A. Hospital. Graveside services were held Sunday, July 20, 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald.
Mr. McDuffie was a native of Wilcox County and the son of the late Charles and Carrie McDuffie. He was retired from Robins AFB as a Civil Service employee. Mr. McDuffie was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his son, Larry Wolfe of Fitzgerald; sisters, Katherine Wilkes of Ocilla; Martha Ellen Kilpatrick of Fitzgerald; Teresa Bloom of Miami, FL and Nell Taylor of Denver, CO; a number of nephews and nieces and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
Heritage Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Douglas Coleman
Mrs. Gladys Douglas Coleman, 97, of Ocilla died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Palemon Gaskin Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Services were held Tuesday, July 8 at the Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Eulogy was given by Mrs. Coleman’s son, Judge Dubignion Douglas. Music was provided by pianist Pam Pusey and soloist Susan Douglas.
Mrs. Coleman’s grandsons ? Steve, Alan, Mike, David, Bobby and Tommy Douglas ? served as pallbearers.
Interment was held in Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Coffee County.
Mrs. Coleman was born April 5, 1906 in Irwin County to the late Elonzo Tucker and Mary Paulk Tucker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Henry Douglas and her second husband, Charlie H. Coleman. Mrs. Coleman was a retired lunchroom supervisor at Irwin County High School.
A former resident of Macon, where she was a member of Corinth Primitive Baptist Church, Mrs. Coleman was a member and former Bible Study teacher at Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church. Her greatest legacy was her encouragement for students to complete their education.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karleen D. DeVane.
Survivors include three sons, Judge Dubignion Douglas of Dublin, Raymond W. Douglas of Macon and Thomas Wendall Douglas of Madison, MS; 12 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ida T. Miner of Tifton; several nieces and nephews.

Ira “Dan” Daniels
Mr. Ira “Dan” Daniels of Winston Salem, NC died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in Winston Salem.
Graveside services were held Saturday, July 5 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County with Rev. John S. Gibbs Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers were Philip Daniels, Charles Flanders, Charles M. Purvis, Hal Parrish, Glenn Tucker and Jimmy Purvis.
Music was provided by a duet of Betty Metts and Charles Purvis.
Mr. Daniels was born in Irwin County to the late Thomas and Mattie Arnold Daniels. He retired as vice president of Freightliner Trucks. He was a member of the New Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Winston Salem. He was a former resident of Charlotte, NC. He was an avid sports fan and golfer. He played basketball for the Ocilla High School.
Survivors include his wife, Aileen B. Daniels, Winston Salem, NC; three brothers, Charles Daniels and Leon Daniels, both of Birmingham, AL and H. M. Daniels of Fitzgerald; three sisters, Lorena D. Bryant, Leona D. Tucker and Inez D. Wheeler, all of Ocilla.

Becky Walker Foster
Mrs. Becky Walker Foster, 97, of Fitzgerald, died Saturday morning, July 5, 2003 at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Services were held Monday, July 7 at 10 a.m. at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. John K. Mobley and Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating.
Interment was held in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Barry Foster, Danny Foster, Dadwin Singletary, Dickie Singletary, Greg Myers, Glen Foster, Doug Pope, Mike Foster, Bobby R. Dixon, Herschel Gutherie and Gyn Collier.
Music was provided by pianist, Sandy Woods and the duet of Larry Latham and George Martin, singing and on guitars.
Mrs. Foster was born June 18, 1906 in Irwin County to the late Archie Walker and Emma Dixon Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester E. Foster. Mrs. Foster was a homemaker, a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and the Home Demonstration Club. Survivors include four sons, Herman E. Foster of Fitzgerald, Douglas Foster of Irwinville, Archie Foster and Gledyon Foster, both of Fitzgerald; two daughters, Marcella F. Singletary of Kennesaw and Reba F. Day of Sylvester; three sisters, Agnes Davis and Elsie Taylor, both of Fitzgerald and Ida Hogan of Irwinville; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Annie Gordon Brooklin
Annie Gordon Brooklin (Annie B) of Ocilla died Sunday, June 22, 2003.
She was born in Irwin County on June 11, 1936 to the late Sammie Lee and Beatrice Gordon. At an early age she joined Mathis Chapel Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Bethlehem Baptist Church. There she served faithfully until her health failed.
Annie B. was employed with the Luke family for many years until she was no longer able to work.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Wiliam Gordon and one sister, Orine Livingston.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Brooklin of Ocilla; two sons, Artice Lee Eady of Conyers and Willie Howard (Marian) Devorce’ of Douglas; three grandsons she raised, Corey Eady, Artice Demond Eady and Dexter Eady, all of Conyers; two granddaughters, Shelia Hayes and Wykesius Devorce’ of Douglas; two great-grandchildren, Corey D. Eady and Kyler Clark, both of Ocilla; three sisters-in-law, Lizzie Gordon of Ocilla, Clara Lester and Louise Brooklin of Alapaha; two goddaughters, Janelles Goolsby and Joyce Goolsby and a host of other family members and friends.
Annie B. will be greatly missed. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was always there when anyone in the family needed someone to talk to.
Services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Ocilla on Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m, with Rev. Willie Mobley officiating.
Music was provided by the choir; soloist, Bro. Melvin McCutchen and duet, Bro. Elliot Monroe and Bro. Melvin McCutchen.
Active pallbearers were Deacon James Milton Marshall, Deacon Randy Shelley, Deacon Willie McClain, Brother Elliot Monroe, Brother Melvin McCutchen and Brother Aubrey Paschal.
Honorary pallbearers were Willie Howard Devorce’, Artice Lee Eady, Corey Eady, A. Demond Eady, Dexter Eady and Lil’ Corey Eady.
Interment was held at Ocilla Cemetery.
Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Larry J. Gill
Mr. Larry J. Gill of Ocilla died Thursday, June 26, 2003 at his residence. He was 59.
Mr. Gill was born June 28, 1943 in Tifton, son of the late Annie Louise (Arthur) Gill and Jones Taft Gill.
Mr. Gill attended Abraham Baldwin College, Albany Tech, obtaining an Fcc First Class Radiotelephone License with Ship Radar Endorsement and attended Darton College.
Mr. Gill lived in the community all of his life. He was a 1961 graduate of Irwin County High School. Mr. Gill was a farmer and a former adjuster for Rain & Hail Crop Insurance. He was a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple & Scottish Rite in Albany and the Ocilla Lodge F & AM #134. Mr. Gill was a member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church. He also was a former employee of Western Union in Macon and Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company in Tifton, formerly owned and operated a radio and T.V. repair shop and was a former staff engineer for Walb-TV in Albany.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gill of Ocilla; son, Taft Gill of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Shannon Dixon of Quitman; grandchildren, Ashley McMillan, Amanda McMillan, Krystal Dixon and Kris Dixon, all of Quitman.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla on Sunday, June 29 at 4 p.m., with Brother Joe Sims officiating. Music was provided by organist, Jean Dent.
Pallbearers were Billy Paulk, Curtis Hunter, Gene Chambers, Shane Howell, Danny Howell and Gene Hunter.
Interment was held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Anna M. Johnson
Mrs. Anna M. Johnson of Fitzgerald died Monday, June 23, 2003 at her residence. She was 59.
Mrs. Johnson was born October 13, 1943 in Decatur County, daughter of the late Eunice Lea (Skipper) McCarty and Wallace Lee McCarty.
Mrs. Johnson lived in the community for the past 15 years from Bainbridge. She was a homemaker and attended Fitzgerald Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Doc Johnson of Fitzgerald; son, Robert J. “Bobby” Avant of Ocilla; daughter, Belinda Bennett Justice of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Michael Franklin Logue and Brittany Bennett, both of Fitzgerald; Robbie Avant, Josh Avant and Sierra Ely, all of Ocilla and sister, Peggy Eidson of Bainbridge.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald on Wednesday, June 25 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Ricky Eidson and Rev. Allen Arowood officiating.
Pallbearers were Bobby Avant, Robbie Avant, Michael Logue, Doctor Johnson, Wallace Justice and Anthony Ely.
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

H. V. Yarbrough
Mr. H. V. Yarbrough of Lands Crossing community died Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Tift Regional Medical Center. He was 87.
Mr. Yarbrough was born April 17, 1916 in Irwin County, son of the late Flora Ellen Sweat Yarbrough and Aaron Van Buren Yarbrough.
Mr. Yarbrough had lived in the community all of his life. He was a drag line operator with Csx Railroad and a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of the Way. Mr. Yarbrough was also a farmer and member of Young’s Chapel Methodist Church in Ben Hill County.
Mr. Yarbrough was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Yarbrough.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy A. Yarbrough of Lands Crossing Community of Irwin County; sons, Donald A. Yarbrough of Atlanta, Ernest L. Yarbrough, Julian M. Yarbrough, Oliver L. Bryan and Barry V. Yarbrough, all of Fitzgerald; daughters, Dianne Y. Kelley of Hogansville, Kay Y. Stubbs and Margaret Y. Jones, both of Fitzgerald; brother, George W. Yarbrough of Baconton; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Abba Baptist Church in Ben Hill County on Monday, June 30 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Howard Kitchens and Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers were railroad men, active and retired.
Interment was held at Ebenezer Cemetery in Irwin County.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Melissa C. Hudson
Melissa C. Hudson, 73, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2003. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday in the Chapel of Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla with burial in the Ocilla City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hudson was born in Turner County to the late Archie B. and Maggie Garrett Clements. Before moving to Warner Robins, Mrs. Hudson had lived in Irwin County most of her life and attended Ocilla Church of God. While living in Warner Robins, she attended the Friendship Baptist Church. She was married to Henry Hudson for the past 53 years.
Survivors other than her husband are son, A. Danny (Kendra) Hudson of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Melissa Maxwell of Port St. Joe, FL; Garrison Hudson of Leesburg and Marley Hudson of Warner Robins; great-grandson, Gavin Maxwell of Port St. Joe, FL; brothers, Charlie Clements of Ocilla and Emory Clements of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Mildred West of Sherman, TX and a number of nieces and nephews.
Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, Warner Robins and Paulk Funeral Home of Ocilla were in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle Davis Purvis
Mrs. Myrtle Davis Purvis, 84, died June 24, 2003, following a lengthy illness. A celebration of her life was held at the Chapel of Bowen Donaldson Funeral Home on Thursday, June 26 at 11 a.m. Burial followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Reverend Terrell Roberts and Elder W. Lee Chambers officiated.
Mrs. Purvis was born October 10, 1918 in Berrien County and spent all her adult life in Tifton. She was a member of the Tifton Primitive Baptist Church. She was dedicated to making her home a warm and loving place for her family and friends always greeting everyone with a beautiful smile.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Curtis R. Purvis; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Elaine Purvis; daughter, Elayne Cook, all of Tifton; three granddaughters, Marilyn Purvis Ring, wife of Jarrod Ring, of Tifton; Joannah Cook of Atlanta and Brandy Cook Shepard, wife of Thaxton Shepard of Jacksonville, NC; two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Lovin and Nancy Davis and all of her siblings, Leonie Davis and Willie B. Davis of Alapaha, Annie Sirmans Harris and Grace Pearson of Tifton and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Powell Purvis.
Pallbearers were Glen Johnson, Dick Hart, Joey Doles, Jerrod Ring, Charles Purvis, Deryck Perkins, Bobby Benson and Ewart Connor.
Honorary pallbearers were the Ladies Circle of the Tifton Primitive Baptist Church.
Charitable donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Purvis to the Tifton Primitive Baptist Church.
