Nikola C. Hall
Mrs. Nikola Chavyce McClain Hall of Ocilla died Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. She was 24.
Mrs. Hall was born to Jacqueline L. Wynn and Willie F. McClain on November 13, 1978 in Fitzgerald.
She attended Irwin County High School.
Mrs. Hall was an avid member of Antioch Baptist Church in Fitzgerald where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the group “Anointed Voices”.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Cornelius Hall on December 6, 1999 in Ocilla where they made their home.
Nikola loved children and because of that she began a daycare which she operated until her health would not allow.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Cornelius; her grandfather, John Willie Dean; grandmother, Annie Mae Paschal; grandfather, Tom Paschal and great-grandmother, Essie Dean.
Survivors include her husband, Cornelius Hall; her mother, Jacqueline (Derek) Wynn of Ocilla; her father, Willie F. (Gloria) McClain of Ocilla; two sisters, Tausha C. McClain and Dia C. McClain, both of Ocilla; paternal great-grandmother, Sally McClain of Ocilla; maternal grandparents, John L. and Rudean Cook of Ocilla; mother-in-law, Ethel Grace Hall; special sister, Yalonda McElhaney; best friend, Jessica Wynn; four sisters-in-law, Latisha (Adrien) Tucker, Salina (Michael) Ross, Valerie (Mac) Tucker and Daphine (Willie) Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Midway Baptist Church in Holt on Saturday, September 13 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Reginald Bellamy officiating.
Music was provided by Antioch Baptist Church choir and soloist, Shawn.
Active pallbearers were Uncles Terry L. Cook, John L. Cook, Jr., Eddie L. Sanchious, Ricky Telfair, John McClain and Curtis Terry.
Honorary pallbearers were Dale Tucker, Adrien Tucker, Willie Jackson, Darnell Buchanan, Trevin Simmons and Michael Ross.
Interment was held at Ocilla Cemetery.

John Willie “Bill” Harper
Mr. John Willie “Bill” Harper of Irwin County died Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Irwin County Hospital. He was 94.
Mr. Harper was born April 5, 1909 in Irwin County, son of the late Louvinia Ring Harper and John J. Harper.
Mr. Harper had lived in the community all of his life. He was a retired farmer and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Estelle McDaniel Harper.
Survivors include his sons, Rayburn Harper, Earl Harper and Dennis Harper, all of Ocilla; daughter, Marilla Harper of Ocilla; sister, Christine H. Wiley of Irwinville; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County on Tuesday, September 16 at 11 a.m., with Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating.
Music was provided by pianist, Patsy Spradling and the church choir.
Pallbearers were Robert Harper, Darold Griffin, Gerald Faulkner, Lee Jones, Jr., Mack Chaney and James Wiley.
Interment was held at Bethlehem Cemetery.

James M. Vaughn
Mr. James M. Vaughn of Fitzgerald died Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Dorminy Medical Center. He was 79.
Mr. Vaughn was born May 30, 1924 in Osierfield community, son of the late Mamie McDaniel Vaughn and Troy Moses Vaughn.
Mr. Vaughn had lived in Irwin and Ben Hill Counties most all of his life. He was a farmer, an employee of Harper Motor Lines and was retired from Delco-Remy Battery Plant. He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in the Central European Theater. Mr. Vaughn was a member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen V. Hammond and granddaughter, Jennifer Shaw, both of Neptune Beach, FL; brother, Troy M. Vaughn, Jr. of Fitzgerald; sisters, Kathryn Bowman and Mildred Hobby, both of Fitzgerald; Lucille Brooks and Annie Franezek, both of Jacksonville, FL.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald on Tuesday, September 16 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert McDearmid and Rev. Steve Waldorf officiating.
Music was provided by organist Marty Smith and soloist Karla Foster.
Pallbearers were Ralph Sumner, Russell Watson, James Peacock, Ross Nash, Lyman Brewer and Rev. Farise Taylor.
Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery.

Bobbie Joe Fuller
Ms. Bobbie Joe Fuller of Jacksonville, FL, died Monday, September 1, 2003 at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, Jacksonville, FL. She was 55.
Ms. Fuller was born April 23, 1948 in Alapaha, daughter of the late Sam Fuller, Sr and Mrs. Bessie Cola Jenkins Fuller.
At an early age she joined Little Flock Baptist Church in Irwin County.
Ms. Fuller was educated in the school system of Nashville where she graduated from Nashville High School.
In the mid 1970s she moved to Miami, FL and resided there until 1978 when she decided to join her sister, Nevada at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center and then made Jacksonville, FL her home. She remained employed at Saint Vincent’s for 25 years. She was a member of Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church and served the church as a member of District #6.
Survivors include her devoted friend, James A. Dewitt; three sisters, Nevada Harris of Jacksonville, FL; Pearlie M. Boyd of Louisville, KY; Jo Ann Fuller of Alapaha; two brothers, Earnest (Beverly) Fuller of Douglas; Jackie (Diane) Fuller of Alapaha; five aunts, Beulah Smith of Detroit, MI; Ludell Hall of Miami, FL; Sarah Bonds of Mansfield, OH; Mary Young of Ocilla; Flora Nell Gaskins of Ocilla; two uncles, Frank (Jessie) Jenkins of Cleveland, OH, Slater Rolle of Miami, FL; sister-in-law, Lena Fuller of Alapaha; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Services were held at Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, September 6 at 9 a.m., with Rev. Herb Anderson officiating.
Music was provided by the choir and soloist, Jonathan Fuller.

Anna Bell Allen
Mrs. Anna Bell Allen of Ocilla died Saturday, September 6, 2003. She was 86.
Mrs. Allen was born March 17, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA , daughter of the late Wright Allen and Anna Bell Allen
Mrs. Allen spent most of her adult life in Camden, NJ and was employed as an assistant in a prostho dental laboratory. She was an active and conscientious member of the local unit of the Salvation Army.
After moving to Ocilla, she regularly attended the Sunday School and worship services of the Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church and many activities and services at the Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Irwin County Chapter of the Naacp, Ocilla Civic Club and regularly subscribed to a membership with the Abraham Baldwin Arts Connection. She attended the daily Senior Citizens program at the Neighborhood Center which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Survivors include her daughter, Annette Allen Poley; a sister, Rosa Mintz and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services were held at Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church in Ocilla on Saturday, September 13 at 3 p.m., with Rev. James Curtis officiating.
Music was provided by the choir and soloist, Thelma Harris.

Henry Lester Cumby, Jr.
Mr. Henry Lester Cumby, Jr., 85, of Ocilla died Monday, September 1, 2003 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Services were held Wednesday, September 3 at 1 p.m. at the Ocilla United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Osborn officiating. Interment was held in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton.
Pallbearers were Michael McIntyre, Jason Cumby, Josh Woodard, Jacob Massee, Luke Massee, Hall Harden, Eric Heidemann.
Music was provided by organist, Jean Dent; pianist, Becky Anderson and soloist, Mark Massee.
Mr. Cumby was born May 9, 1918, son of the late Henry Lester Cumby, Sr. and Lillian Butler Cumby. He was retired manager of Cohen Department Store and retired owner/operator of Cumby Sign Shop. Mr. Cumby was a member of Ocilla United Methodist Church, the Men’s Bible Sunday School class, the Methodist Men’s Club and a former Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy A. Cumby of Ocilla; four children and spouses, Linda and Buddy Harden of Atlanta, Gary and Jessie Cumby of Valdosta, Jimmy and Angie Cumby of Valdosta, Sherry and Mark Massee of Fitzgerald; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

William R. Ethridge
Mr. William R. Ethridge, 73, of Irwinville died Sunday, September 7, 2003 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 9, at 2 p.m. at the Waterloo Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Braswell officiating.
Mr. Ethridge was born October 3, 1929, son of the late Delmar D. Ethridge and Ruby Beatrice Dobbins Ethridge. He was a retired insurance sales representative with National Life & Accident Company, a farmer, a former employee of Gordon Foods, Cordele Cigar & Candy Company and Cordele Casual Wear. Mr. Ethridge was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War Era. A former resident of Cordele and Albany, Mr. Ethridge was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Anzer Lowery Ethridge of Irwinville; two sons and their wives, Bill and Nathalee Ethridge of Cordele and John and Anna Ethridge of Fitzgerald; two daughters, Sandra and the Rev. Eddie Braswell of Byromville and Debora A. Ethridge of Irwinville; nine grandchildren, Jennifer and John Hislop III of Pembroke Pines, FL; Jana and Shannon Wilkerson of Cordele; David and Stevie Ethridge of Arabi; Edward Braswell, Jr. of Macon; Shea and Randall Dominey and Alazhia Wade of Cordele; Jessica Ethridge and Rene’ Alligood of Fitzgerald; two great-grandsons, Keegan and Rohne Hislop of Pembroke Pines, FL; three sisters and their husbands, Mildred and Curtis Edwards of Tifton, Geraldine and Roy Brooks of Chula and Sara and Jerry Turner of Enigma. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A brother, Clarence Ethridge and a sister, Thelma Ethridge, preceded Mr. Ethridge in death.

Mary Clide Josey Fowler
Mrs. Mary Clide Josey Fowler of Irwinville died Sunday, September 7, 2003 at her residence. She was 75.
Mrs. Fowler was born June 22, 1928 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Marie (Waller) Josey and Willie Clyde Josey.
Mrs. Fowler lived in the community most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Pinetta Baptist Church. Mrs. Fowler was an avid quilter and a member of the Irwinville Sewing Club, sewing pillows for cancer patients.
She was preceded in death by husband, Eugene Fowler and brother, Edward Josey.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Tim Fowler of Irwinville and Jeff and Marlene Fowler of Fitzgerald; grandsons and spouse, Travis Fowler and Adam and Laura Fowler, all of Fitzgerald; brother, Willie Clyde Josey, Jr. of Irwinville and two grandchildren.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald on Tuesday, September 9 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ronny Griner officiating.
Interment was held at Irwinville Cemetery.

Arzell Glover
Mr. Arzell Glover of Jacksonville, FL died Thursday, August 28, 2003. He was 64.
Mr. Glover was born January 18, 1939, the son of Mrs. Lady B. Glover and the late Mack Glover in Irwin County. He attended Ocilla High and Industrial Public School.
He was employed with Dixie Darling Bakery for several years in Jacksonville, Fl. He was joined in wedlock to Florine Smith Glover for 42 years. To this union four children were born.
Brother Glover accepted Christ at an early age in Irwin County.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Angelica Denise Glover.
Survivors include his wife, Florine Smith Glover and his mother, Mrs. Lady B. Glover; three sons, Randy Lamar Edwards of Chicago, IL; Ricky Roger (Bernice) Glover, Ray Arzell (Sarena) Glover and a daughter, Angela Marie Glover, all of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Eddie Lee (Rosa) Glover, Charles Glover, Carl Glover, all of Ocilla; one sister, Maxine G. Fice of Ocilla; grandchildren, DeAngelo “Duke” Antoine Glover, Adrian Javon Glover, Ricky Curtis Glover, Gabrielle Glover; an aunt, Iona Murrell; uncles, Emory (Lily) Moreland, Roosevelt (Doretha) Moreland and Nathaniel Moreland; special cousins, Christine Johnson and Willie Frank Moreland and a special niece, Patricia (Sugar Mamma) Eunice and a host of other relatives and friends.

Andrew Edwards
Mr. Andrew (Nate) Edwards of Newark, NJ died Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the University of Medicine Hospital in Newark, NJ. He was 61.
Mr. Edwards was born in Irwin County, Lax, on January 31, 1942, son of the late Walter and Dora Chatman Edwards.
His religious affiliation was Missionary Baptist. He was a member of New Bethel Church in Lax.
Andrew attended Irwin County schools and Ocilla High and Industrial School. He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Williams and Wanda Edwards; two brothers, James Edwards and Larnell Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Tina Edwards; two daughters, Michelle Edwards and Chasetity E. Mills (Terry) of Newark, NJ; two sons, Andrew Edwards, Jr. of Newark, NJ and Hassa’n Rowe Edwards (Stephanie) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two sisters, Doretha Edwards and Altha M. Wilcox of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Alphonza Edwards (Louvenia) of Chicago, IL and Gregory Edwards (Verna) of Atlanta; one brother-in-law, Thomas Williams of Ocilla; four grandchildren, Sasha Rowe, Derrick Rowe, Jerrell Rowe and Chakiyyah Mills of Newark, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services were held at True Life Restoration Christian Center, Inc. in Ocilla on Saturday, September 6 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Michael Edwards officiating.
Music was provided by the congregation and soloist, Thelma Harris.
