Delmar Handley
Rev. Delmar Handley, 70, of Rochelle died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Services were held at First Baptist Church of Rochelle on Thursday, September 2 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jay Moore, Rev. Jim Wiley and Rev. Brad Sanders officiating. Interment was held in Frank Cemetery, Irwin County.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jimmy Carter, Jason Carter, Ricky Handley, Jr., Andy McCrimmon, Matthew McCrimmon, Justin McCrimmon, Jamie Handley and Brian Handley. Music was provided by pianist, Rhonda Henderson; soloist, Susan Hobbs; duet, Rhonda Henderson and Cynthia Holt; guitarist, Greg Hobbs and violinist, Audrey Cason.
Rev. Handley was born October 3, 1933 in Irwin County, son of the late George Leonard and Effie Tucker Handley. He lived in Rochelle for the past 16 years. Rev. Handley was a member and Associate Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church of Rochelle.
Formerly a heavy equipment operator, Rev. Handley had been a minister of the Gospel since 1965. Together, Rev. Handley and his wife served many churches including Hacklebarney in Blackshear, Deenwood in Waycross, Stokesville in Axon, Brookfield in Tift County, Pleasant Hill in Rebecca, Tabernacle in Rochelle, Callie Garbutt in Fitzgerald, Terrell in Worth County and Macedonia in Telfair County.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Handley of Rochelle; children, Debbie H. Pollard of Puyallup, WA; Rick Handley, Kay H. Cruz, Sharon H. McCrimmon and Mike Handley, all of Fitzgerald; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jerell Morgan of Ocilla and Shelby Ritch of Dublin.

Elizabeth ‘K. B.’ Meddler
Mrs. Elizabeth “K. B.” Meddler died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Osceola Nursing Home, Ocilla. Mrs. Meddler was educated in Irwin County schools. She was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Ocilla. She married Jesse Meddler in 1966. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Laster, and a brother, Albert Laster, Sr.
Survivors include her sisters, Lillian (Joe) Young, Kissimmee, FL; Betty Laster, Miami, FL; Annie Laster, Shirley Foster, Mary Will Laster and Mary Alicia Ellis, Ocilla, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; also special friends, Catherine Williams, Vandella Florence, Annie Lee White and Catherine Shaw.
Services were held at New Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday, November 27, 2 p.m., with Rev. Steven McGauley officiating. Music: soloist, Rev. Steven McGauley.
Pallbearers were Horace Laster, Ernest Laster, David Laster, Dwight Daniels, Rico Foster and Torros Ellis.
Lloyd Wright
Mr. Lloyd Wright, 75, of Ocilla died Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla on Monday, November 29, 3 p.m. with Rev. David Biggers and Elder Otis McGee officiating. Music: pianist, Jinny Paulk and soloist, Valerie Veal Horton.
Pallbearers were June Wright, Jason Johnson, Kyle Veal, Chad Culpepper, Tony Hayes, Robert Wright, Joey Wright, Marty Wright. Interment followed in Ocilla Cemetery.
Mr. Wright was born October 16, 1929 in Carroll County, son of the late George Benjamin “Bud” Wright and Josie Ella Smith Wright. He was a retired farmer and former owner and operator of Wright Meat Market in Ocilla. Mr. Wright was a former member of the Irwin County Young Farmers Association and was awarded the Soil Conservationist of the Year in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmy Sue Wright, Ocilla; three children, Charles Wright, Lamar Wright and Susan W. Veal, Ocilla; six grandchildren; two brothers, Elbert Wright and Joe Wright, Ocilla; two sisters, Betty Hayes, Ocilla and Martha Nell Griffin, Nashville. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Henry Woodrum
Mr. Henry Woodrum, 81, of Ocilla died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Services were held at Holt Baptist Church, Irwin County on Sunday, November 28, 2 p.m., with Rev. David Biggers and Rev. J. A. Clements officiating. Music by pianist, Donna Biggers; soloist, Lorie Cothran and poem read by Lorie Cothran. Pallbearers were David Woodrum, Mike Barrentine, Gordon Tapp, Bruce Watson, Randall Luther, Gary Simmons. Honorary: Masons, Gene Arnold. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Woodrum was born November 22, 1923 in Turner County, son of the late Lonnie M. and Mary Arnold Woodrum. He was a retired carpenter, a member of Holt Baptist Church and a Mason. Mr. Woodrum served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Wright, Cordele and Renee Taylor, Fitzgerald; eight grandchildren, Hugh Taylor, Wesley Taylor, Jamie, Julie, Katelyn, Lindsey, Hershel and Candy Tapp; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Zack, Josh and Jake Taylor; special friend, Kay Tapp, Ocilla; three sisters, Laura Hampton and Mabel White, Macon and Estelle Barrentine, Bonaire; one brother, Milton Woodrum, Jr., Eatonton; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Melton Woodrum.
Willis Edward Wynn
Mr. Willis Edward “Tic” Wynn of Fitzgerald died Monday, November 22, 2004.
Mr. Wynn was born December 10, 1959 in Irwin County, son of Lois Wynn and William Thomas
He graduated from Irwin County High School. He was employed as a farmer, industrial worker and later became King’s Bar-B-Que supervisor.
Survivors include his devoted love, Brenda King of Fitzgerald; mother, Lois Wynn; father, Wiliam Thomas; grandmother, Maryetta Thomas, Ocilla; three children, Terra, Willis, Jr. and Kayla Wynn, Fitzgerald; three grandchildren, Kiara, Shanterria and Nekia Wynn, Fitzgerald; brothers and sister, Ronald, Donald, Michael Wynn and Latrecia (Tony) Jones, Ocilla; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held at Midway Baptist Church, Holt on Sunday, November 28 at 3 p.m., with Rev. Ronald Dixon officiating. Music by Dewayne Vickers, Corey Wynn, Karen King and Michelle Jackson.
Pallbearers were Gerald Wynn, Chester Anderson, Jr., Ronald Wynn, Jr., Jonathan Whitman, Jr., Clay Alexander, Jr., Latonik Wynn. Honorary: Ray Wynn, Tony Johnson, Donald Wynn, Jerry Wynn, Ronald Wynn, Michael Wynn, Wade Wynn,Tony Jones.
Interment was held in Ocilla Cemetery.
Hazel Collier Dorminy
Mrs. Hazel Collier Dorminy, 96, of North Little Rock, AR died Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Baptist Memorial Medical Center, North Little Rock, AR.
Services were held at Eureka Primitive Baptist Church, Irwin County on Monday, November 29 at 10 a.m., with Elder Jamey Tucker officiating. Music: congregational singing led by Jack Laminack. Pallbearers were Jack Laminack, Joseph Fletcher, David Harrell, G.M. Tucker, fred Tucker, Milliner Tucker. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Dorminy was born January 3, 1908 in Richmond, VA, daughter of the late Willie and Mammie Smith Collier. She lived in Arkansas since 1989, was a member of Eureka Primitive Baptist Church and attended Second Baptist Church, Little Rock. Mrs. Dorminy was a former resident of Miami, FL, where she worked for the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service as an interpreter.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Howard B. (Betty) Watkins, Jr., North Little Rock; five grandhcildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Dorminy, and a daughter, Esther Bauml.
Louise Chaney
Mrs. Louise Chaney of Mystic died Wednesday, November 10, 2004. She was 65.
She was born August 2, 1939. She and her twin brother were children of H. P. Maddox (Thomas) and the late Mandy Maddox. They spent their early life with maternal grandparents in Colquitt, due the loss of their mother while infants.
Louise was a member of New Testament Outreach Deliverance Church, the church her brother pastors.
On October 10, 1966 she married Herman J. Mortimer, and they later adopted a daughter, Angel P. Mortimer, and a son, Herman J. Mortimer, Jr. In 1997 her husband of over 30 years passed away and she married Rev. Luther Chaney. Although she had only two natural children, over the years she has been blessed with numerous spiritual children, who also called her mother.
Over the course of her life, Louise pursued many careers. In the past she has worked as a cosmetologist, a medical assistant, a day care provider and a Certified Nurses Assistant, but her first love was cooking. During her life she would open three restaurants, one of which is L and L Country Kitchen in Ocilla.
Survivors include her father, H. P. Thomas of Oakland, CA and step-mother, Marie Thomas of Tifton; husband, Luther Chaney; two children, Angel P. Mortimer and Herman J. Mortimer, Jr. (Patricia), all of Mystic; ten step-children; two brothers, Eugene Maddox (Crystal) of Rochelle and Howard Paul Thomas (Maxine) of Houston, TX; four sisters, Gloria Redwine of Miami, FL, Joyce Lee, Joann Smith and Geneva Thomas, all of Oakland, CA; four grandchildren; Dishon, Joshua, Anthony and Ashley, all of Mystic; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held at New Testament Holiness Church in Queensland on Thursday, November 18 at noon, with Rev. Eugene Maddox officiating. Music was provided by Bro. Lewis Brown, Sis. Kimberly Brown and Sis. Gloria Brown. Friends of the family served as pallbearers. Interment was held in the church cemetery.

Lula Whiddon Pate
Mrs. Lula Whiddon Pate, 85, of Ocilla passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Irwin County Hospital following an extended illness. Services were held at Harmony Baptist Church in Turner County on Friday, November 19 at 2 p.m. Interment was held in the church cemetery.
A lifetime resident of Turner County, Mrs. Pate resided at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home in Ocilla for the past three years. She was the daughter of Preston DeMonte and Lillie Reece Willis Whiddon. The widow of Albert Felton Pate, she was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church where all of her life she was actively involved in many church activities. Mrs. Pate was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lurece P. and Billy Kelley of Jacksonville, FL; sons and daughters-in-law, L. A. “Sonny” and LaVerne Pate of Irwinville; W. F. “Dub” and Sandra Pate of Ashburn and Glenn and Phyllis Pate of Fitzgerald; a brother, Ben F. Whiddon of Ashburn; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Kelley.

E. Kyle Fuller
Mr. E. Kyle, 88, of Nashville, died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Archbold Medical Center, Thomasville.
He was born in Irwin County April 15, 1916, son of the late Drew Cleveland Fuller and Louise Parsons Fuller.
Mr. Fuller was the former mayor of the city of Nashville and was associated for many years with Fuller Lumber Industries. He was a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lucile Long Fuller of Nashville; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kyle and Joey King of Enigma; two sons and daughters-in-law, E. Kyle and Dorothy Fuller, Jr. of Fitzgerald and the Rev. Kenny Drew and Carol Fuller of Hiawassee; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Lovein Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday, November 16 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Rick Williams, Rev. Pete Jones and Rev. Dwight Bishop officiating.
Music was provided by B. J. and Teresa Holliday who sang “Amazing Grace”.
Pallbearers were Tom Hall, Sonny Griner, Ronald McCranie, Craig King, Lauren Fuller and Drew Fuller.
Raymon V. Burns
Mr. Raymon V. Burns, 83, of Charlotte, NC, died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at his residence. He was born June 30, 1921 in Ocilla and was the son of the late Bessie and Henry Burns. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Arline Burns.
Mr. Burns is survived by his daughter, Barbara Burns; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Linda Burns; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Sid Campbell, all of Charlotte; grandchildren, Darek Burns and his wife Tammy, Keith Burns, Mark Burns, Alan Campbell, Heather Campbell; great granddaughter, Christina Burns; sister and brother-in-law, Zelda and Maurice Henderson of Ocilla; sister, Allowee Aiken of Macon and sister and brother-in-law, Allene and Shirley Griffin of Macon.
Ray and Arline married in Miami, FL and made homes in Childersburg, AL; Louisville, KY; Norcross and for the last 31 years in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Burns’ career included the construction and maintenance of facilities and equipment in the southeast for Sinclair and BP Oil Companies and co-owner of Southeastern Lightweight Concrete Co. He was also a U. S. Navy veteran having served during World War II in the Pacific.
Ray loved and cherished his family and was always concerned about their well-being and happiness. Pictures of his family and family activities crowd tabletops throughout his home. His fond memories of growing up in Ocilla, along with the love and devotion of his three sisters were evident to anyone who knew him and were a source of great comfort during his time of declining health.
A memorial service was held at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel on Monday, October 18 at 4 p.m.
The family thanks Hospice at Charlotte and the doctors whose help allowed them to care for Mr. Burns at home.
Liza Mae Pace Ellison
Mrs. Liza Mae Pace Ellison of Ocilla died Friday, November 12, 2004. She was 69.
Mrs. Ellison was born November 19, 1934 to Mathis and Edna Pace.
She received her education from the Telfair County School system. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
She was employed at Irwin Manufacturing and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ellison was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Ellison; three sisters, Bessie Moss, Carrie Lou Carter and Addie Clements; three brothers, James Pace, Eddie Lee Pace and William Henry Pace and one sister-in-law, Ramie Pace.
Survivors include children, Louvern Bullock (Horace), Charlie Doberson, Jr. (Kathleen), all of Fitzgerald; Otha Lee Doberson (Eloise) of Douglas; Seabie L. Paulk (Iris James) of Wray; James Steve Ellison (Diane) of Fitzgerald, Esther M. Battle (Sammie), George Davis, special friend, Emmanuel Ellison (Jennell), Jethro Ellison (Lavaria), all of Ocilla, Woodrow F. Ellison (Andrecia) of Fitzgerald and Elijah Ellison (Linda) of Sylvester; a special daughter, Irma J. Ellison of Fitzgerald; two brothers, Owen Pace of Broxton and Elvin Pace (Margaret) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a special sister-in-law, Willie Mae Pace of Fruitland Park, FL; brothers-in-law, Charlie James Ellison of Mount Dora, FL, John Ellison, Daisy Gordon of Kingston and Lee Ethel Ellison of Valdosta; 27 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a special friend, James Fletcher, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
Services were held at Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church of Ocilla on Saturday, November 20 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Willie C. Mobley officiating.
Music was provided by the St. John Baptist Church choir; soloists, Deacon Aldene Tyson, Mr. Tommy Marlin and Bro. D. L. Williams.
Active pallbearers were Terry Ashley, Horace Bullock, Jr., William Paulk, Keith Clements, Monroe Bullock and Eddie Pace, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were grandsons and sons.
Interment was in Clement’s Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Willie H. Morgan
Mrs. Willie H. Morgan, 96, of the Lands Crossing community of Irwin County died Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Irwin County Hospital.
Services were held at Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwin County on Sunday, November 21 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Wayne McCrimmon and Rev. Ed Reeves officiating. Interment followed in the Big Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mark Sutton, W. T. Sutton, Billy Parrish, Billy Griffin, Bobby Mulkey, Richard Williamson. Honorary pallbeareers were Dennis Brantley, Brett Jacobs, Jason Brantley, Rusty Seaver, Bennie Jacobs, Charles Williams, Jeff Harrison, Chris Paulk, Frank Cason and Marcus Paulk.
Music was provided by organist, Ann Martin; pianist, Faith Williamson and soloists, Mike Martin and Judy Griffin.
Mrs. Morgan was born December 20, 1907 in Dekalb County, AL, daughter of the late John C. and Isabelle Lowery Hartline. She had lived in the community for the past 30 years, moving here from the Tampa, FL area after the death of her husband, Thomas Leonard Morgan. While living in the Tampa area she worked at Del Monte Company and Herman’s Sausage Company. After moving to Irwin County, she was a seamstress for Hybernia’s Ladies Specialty Shops, doing alterations for all four shops in Ocilla, Fitzgerald, Douglas and Tifton. Mrs. Morgan was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Elouise M. Dimsdale of Lands Crossing community of Irwin County and Thelma M. Peavy of Acworth; five grandchildren, Ted Dimsdale of Jacksonville, FL; Marcia D. Paulk of Ocilla; Jo Ellen P. Jacobs of Social Circle; Beverly P. Williams of Cumming and Chuck Peavy of Acworth; 10 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Morgan was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melba D. Johnson; three brothers and two sisters.

Norman A. Johns
Mr. Norman A. Johns, 61, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, November 20, 2004 at his residence.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, November 22 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Emory Champion and Rev. Ralph Summerlin officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Wilcox County.
Pallbearers were David Varnedore, Bobby Cotterman, Michael Johns, Bobby Fulford, Willie Joe Johns, Jamie Johns. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Hutchinson and Jamie Lunsford.
Mr. Johns was born August 14, 1943, in Coffee County, son of the late William Vilas Johns and Blanchie Mae McSwain Johns. He was a retired farmer and employee of Carter’s Fried Chicken. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Fitzgerald.
Survivors include four brothers, Willie V. Johns and Howard L. Johns, both of Fitzgerald, Harley Craven Johns of Irwin County, James Frank Johns of Thomasville; three sisters, Geneva Fulford and Rosetta Johns, both of Fitzgerald, Jimmy Lee Burkett of Douglas and many nieces and nephews.

Doctor T. Johnson, Jr.
Mr. Doctor T. Johnson, Jr., 79 of Fitzgerald died Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the home of his daughter in Jonesboro.
Services will be held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, November 24 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Steve Hood and Rev. Greg Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Frank Cemetery in Irwin County.
Mr. Johnson was born April 27, 1925 in Brunswick, son of the late Doctor Theodore Johnson, Sr. and Gladys Estelle Youmans Johnson. A United States Navy veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean conflict, he was a retired Weights and Measurements Enforcement officer for the Department of Transportation. Mr. Johnson was a former security officer at Dorminy Medical Center. He lived in the community since 1972 from St. Augustine, FL and was a former resident of Portland, OR.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn W. Johnson of Fitzgerald; eight children, Doctor T. Johnson III of Fitzgerald; Elizabeth J. Alexander of Jonesboro; Debbie R. Johnson of Portland, OR; James Ray of Tifton; Delores K. Steward of Tacoma, WA; Frank Ray of Fitzgerald; Janet Johnson of St. Augustine, FL; Tina Roberts of Fitzgerald; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. One daughter, granddaughter and brother preceded him in death.
