Deborah Ann Ellis Ramsey
Ms. Deborah Ann Ellis Ramsey of Ocilla died Monday, January 24, 2005. She was 50.
Ms. Ramsey was born July 3, 1954. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Irwin County High School. Ms. Ramsey was employed at Gold Kist until her health failed. She was united in holy matrimony to Wendell Ramsey. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Ellis, Sr.
Survivors include her mother, Hattie Ellis Of Ocilla; a devoted friend, Dwight Anderson of Ocilla; three daughters, Regina Ann Washington (Edgar) of Atlanta, Lasandra Jean Ramsey (Winlon Herring) of Ocilla and Kimberly Westbrook (Dewayne) of Fitzgerald; one sister, Betty Darden (Carl) of Ocilla; two brothers, Rufus Howard Ellis, Jr. of Miami, FL and Randolph Ellis (Annie Kate) of Ocilla; grandchildren, Diedra, Justin, Tevahan, Asia, Jermani, Khristian, Cameron and Jasmine; cousins, aunts, uncle and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church, Ocilla on Saturday, January 29 at 2 p.m., with Rev. James Curtis officiating.
Music was provided by the choir and soloists, Evelyn Anderson and Hattie Deese.
Pallbearers were Winlon Herring, Tony Wynn, Willie Lee Campbell, Henry Dixon, Leon Hall, Jerome Jackson, Milton Anderson and Ronald Wynn.
Interment was held in Ocilla Cemetery.
Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jackie D. Paulk
Mrs. Jackie D. Paulk, 71, of Alapaha (Irwin County) died Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at her residence.
Services were held at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church, Irwin County, on Thursday, January 27 at 2 p.m., with Elder Marvin Paulk and Elder Paul Thomas officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Purvis, Bobby Norris, Clint Paulk, Dave Harper, Jr., Marcus Paulk and T. C. Norris.
Music was provided by Marvin Paulk, Jan Anderson, Paulk Singers and Margie Browning.
Mrs. Paulk was born March 17, 1933 in Berrien County, daughter of the late Clayton C. and Edna Mixon Daniel. A farmer and homemaker, Mrs. Paulk lived in Berrien County and Irwin County most of her life and was a former resident of Ambrose. She was a member and played the piano for over 50 years at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County. Mrs. Paulk also sang with the M. J. Paulk Family Singers.
Survivors include her husband, M. J. Paulk of Alapaha in Irwin County; two sons and daughters-in-law, Elder Marvin and Brenda Paulk of Garden City and Billy and Gina Paulk of Ocilla; five grandchildren, Markus Paulk, Melinda Purvis, Channing Paulk, Clint Paulk and Clay Paulk; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara D. Harper of Alapaha and Jurelle D. Norris of Valdosta.
Memorials may be made to Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Woody Woods, 362 Magnolia Rd., Ocilla, GA 31774.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Donald H. ‘Pop’ Busbin
Mr. Donald H. “Pop” Busbin, 76, of Irwin County died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at his residence.
Services were held at Riverbend Baptist Church, Irwin County, on Monday, January 31 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Jim Britt officiating.
Pallbearers were Buck Leslie, Phillip Jordan, Bruce Hampton, Joey Hampton, Felton Woods, Tony Woods and Lamar Stone.
Music was provided by pianist, Dale Purvis.
Mr. Busbin was born April 23, 1928 in Irwin County, son of the late Henry Herring and Tyus Etta “Mama B” Veal Busbin. He had lived in Irwin County most of his life. Mr. Busbin was a farmer and a house painter. A member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Irwin County, Mr. Busbin had served in the Georgia Army National Guard.
Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Goulden of Ashburn and Judi and Jim Britt of Mountain City; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randall and Jo Busbin and Andy Busbin, all of Ocilla; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Busbin and Franklin Busbin, both of the Waterloo community, Irwin County; five sisters, Clara Jordan of Tampa, FL; Bernice Duckworth and Jewell Robinson, both of Warner Robins and Norma Baker and Jackie Hampton, both of the Waterloo community, Irwin County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Wisner Busbin, three brothers and five sisters.

Charles Adam Schofill
Mr. Charles Adam Schofill, 56, of Fitzgerald died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at his residence.
Graveside services were held at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Fitzgerald on Tuesday, February 1 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bobby Stone officiating.
Mr. Schofill was born June 8, 1948 in Cordele, son of the late W. A. and Alma Thompson Schofill. A self-emloyed carpenter and mechanic, he lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Schofill was an avid fisherman and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Amber Schofill of Fitzgerald; two brothers, William T. “Bo” Schofill of Dawson and Virgil L. Schofill of Cordele; five sisters, Laura Mashburn and Linda Drawdy, both of Albany, Patricia White of Hogansville, Faye Chitwood and Shirley Dill, both of Ocilla; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Schofill and a sister, Frances Genelle Clark.

Hubert L. Murray
Mr. Hubert L. Murray, 85, of Lakeland, FL, died Monday, December 20, 2004 at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, FL.
Memorial services were held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Monday, January 31, 2005 at 7 p.m., with Rev. Steve O’Neal and Rev. Reggie Scarborough officiating.
Mr. Murray was born April 16, 1919 in Rebecca, son of the late Clarence Hobson and Minnie Lou Evans Murray. He retired from Leonard Brothers Transfer Company in Miami, FL. Mr. Murray served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Greusel Murray of Lakeland, FL; three brothers, Walter H. Murray of Cordele; Albert Cleo Murray of Lexington, NC and William C “Bill” Murray of Fitzgerald; five sisters, Ola Register, Frances Crozier and Barbara Billingsley, all of Fitzgerald; Minnie Ruth Coker of Dade City, FL and Carolyn Wilson of Lakeland, FL. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Wadel Murray; sisters, Ruby Murray, Thelma Wade and Gloria Strickland.

Nellie Mabel West
Nellie Mabel West, 95, of Sevierville, TN, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Sevier County Health Care Center.
Graveside services were held at Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald on Saturday, January 29 at 11 a.m.
Mrs. West was born June 15, 1909 in Tomah, WI, daughter of the late Sherman and Lydia Underhill Parker and was the widow of Edward B. West. She was a former resident of Fitzgerald and Ocilla. Mrs. West was a former employee of Freeman Shoe Company and Beloit Memorial Hospital, both in Beloit, WI. She was a member of the Salvation Army and a former member of the Church of the Nazarene in Fitzgerald.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Bill Anderson and daughter, Major Julia Edmonds, all of Sevierville, TN; grandchildren and spouses, Sharon and Craig Willis, Major James and Amy Edmonds, Christina and Jeffery Osborn, Captain John Edmonds and Edward and Libby Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 806 W. Main St., Sevierville, TN 37862.

Billy Donald ‘Don’ Woodrum
Mr. Billy Donald “Don” Woodrum, 56, of Ocilla died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the Irwin County Hospital.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 26 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County, with Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating.
Mr. Woodrum was born January 29, 1948 in Irwin County, where he lived all of his life and was a former employee of Farmers Quality Peanut and D & F Grain Company. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Lillie T. Woodrum of Ocilla; two sisters, Nelle Rowe of Albany and Dianne Atkinson of Hampton; nieces and nephews, Greg Rowe of Albany, Captain Ryan Rowe of Valparaiso, FL; Marc Atkinson of Fayetteville; Marcia West of Hampton; Sally Rhodes of Lawrenceville and Huey Rhodes of Bluffton, SC; special friend, Alice Smith of Cropwell, AL. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Woodrum and a sister, Lillian Rhodes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to donor’s favorite charity.

Floyd C. Powell
Mr. Floyd C. Powell, 90, of Irwin County died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Graveside services were held Sunday, January 23 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald, with Rev. John K. Mobley officiating.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Rowe, David Deberry, Gerald Satterfield, Galan Tribble, Christopher Tribble and Larry Heath.
Mr. Powell was born February 5, 1914 in Irwin County, son of the late A. M. and Nancy Gibbs Powell. He had lived in Irwin County all of his life. He was a farmer and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Mr. Powell served two terms as an Irwin County Commissioner from 1980-1988.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Powell; two sons, Allen Powell and Mike Powell, both of Fitzgerald; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie McEwen of Fitzgerald and one brother, Jesse Powell of Tyrone.

Jackie Daniel Paulk
Jackie Daniel Paulk, 71, of Alapaha died Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 27 at 2 p.m. at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Paulk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Whitaker Tankersley
Mrs. Carolyn Whitaker Tankersley, 73, of Ocilla died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Services were held at Ocilla Baptist Church on Monday, January 17 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating. Interment followed in the Ocilla Cemetery.
Music was provided by Sujette Giddens, Gina Lawhon, Lisha Woods, Stephanie Morrow, Freda Richardson and Amy Worthington.
Pallbearers were Drew Tankersley, Kurt Willis, Rob Willis, Wyndall Walters, Jim Townsend, Al Dorminy, Waldo Hitt and Brent Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers were the Martha Sunday School class and the Sewing Club.
Mrs. Tankersley was born April 9, 1931 in Laurens County, daughter of the late James Lee Whitaker and Janie Ard White Whitaker. She graduated from Dudley High School in 1947 and was the Valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Tankersley attended GSCW and Middle Georgia College and graduated from Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro.
She was a former elementary school teacher in Ben Hill and Irwin Counties. Mrs. Tankersley began the Tankersley Kindergarten where she privately taught for a number of years. She was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church where she taught the Martha Sunday School class and was a member of the WMU. She was a member of the Sewing Club.
Her greatest joy in life was meeting the needs of her family and serving her Lord. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Tankersley is survived by her husband of 51 years, Cleon C Tankersley of Ocilla; son, Robert Clifford “Cliff” Tankersley and his wife, Nanci, of Ocilla; daughter, Jane Tankersley Willis and her husband, Glen, of Tifton; five grandchildren, Clifford Drew Tankersley, Erin Elizabeth Tankersley, Christopher Kurt Willis, Anna Carolyn Willis and Robert Glen Willis; brother, James White Whitaker of Dublin; two sisters, Mary Whitaker Townsend of Dublin and Janet Whitaker King of Port St. Joe, FL; sister-in-law, Betty Joyce Walters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them to Ocilla Baptist Church, the Ocilla Cemetery Trust Fund or the Martha Sunday School class.

Raymond Troupe
Mr. Raymond Troupe, 54, of Ocilla died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at his residence.
Services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Irwin County on Saturday, January 15 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Andy Day and Rev. Robbie Hulett officiating. Poem by Amanda Wilkes. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joshua White, Keith Harper, Mitchell Bostick, Billy Ring, James Troupe and John Evans.
Mr. Troupe was born March 11, 1950 in Atkinson County, son of Elzie Mancil Troupe and the late Edward Troupe. He lived in Irwin County most of his life. Mr. Troupe was a graduate of East Central Technical College. He was a brick mason and carpenter, having worked for Music & Worth Inc. in Live Oak, FL. Mr. Troupe was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Willacoochee. He was an avid woodworker and loved to build furniture.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya and Buck Veazey of Leesville, LA and Amanda and Stanley Wilkes of Lyons; seven grandchildren; mother, Elzie Troupe of Pearson; five brothers, Grover Troupe of Pearson, David Troupe of South Carolina, Wendell Troupe of Douglas, Larry and Donnie Troupe, both of Berrien County; two sisters, Jewell Fender and Joann Harper, both of Pearson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy and Terry Troupe.

Gennieve Chaney Dukes
Mrs. Gennieve Chaney Dukes, 78, of Ocilla died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Services were held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla on Saturday, January 15 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Marston Tucker officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald.
Pallbearers were Marcus Tucker, Phillip Chaney, Daniel Chaney, Danny Chaney, Herman Chaney and Raliegh Chaney.
Mrs. Dukes was born September 4, 1926 in Irwin County, daughter of the late George Mose and Nellie Jones Chaney. She was a homemaker and lived in Irwin County and Ben Hill County all of her life. Mrs. Dukes was a member of Lax Community Church and a former member of Westside Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Dan G. and Susie Chaney of Ocilla and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester H. Dukes; five sisters and two brothers.

Thelma O. Holloway
Mrs. Thelma O. Holloway, 83, of Irwin County died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Services were held at Nelson Funeral Home, Fayette, AL on Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Melba Sue Holloway officiating. Interment followed in Boone Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, AL.
Mrs. Holloway was born August 9, 1921 in Walker County, AL, daughter of the late Noah and Etta Meadows Haley. She was a farm wife and lived in Irwin County since 1977 from Berrien County. Mrs. Holloway was a member of Friendship Holiness Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Survivors include her children, Margie Roberson of Summerville, SC; Sandra Leslie of Irwin County; Homer Holloway and Randy Holloway, both of Cook County and Linda Simmons of Lowndes County; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Tootsie Berry of Orange Springs, FL; Ruth Davis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Lois Pugh of Jasper, AL; one brother, Allen Haley of Orange Springs, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Lee Holloway; three children, Henry Lee Holloway, Violet Marie Guthrie and Doris Baldree, two brothers and two sisters.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

J. Vernon Tucker
Mr. J. Vernon Tucker, 84, of Irwinville died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia from injuries received in a farming accident.
Services for Mr. Tucker were held Saturday, January 15 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Tucker was the son of the late Elder Joe William and Bessie Lillian Beard Tucker. He was born in Irwin County and was a long-time resident of Atlanta before moving back to Irwin County in 1985. A member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Turner County, he was a retired building superintendent.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Baker Tucker of Irwinville; his children, Wayne Tucker of Slaughter, LA and Natacha T. Stephens of Lilburn; his sisters, Joycie Fowler of McDonough and Minnie C. Willingham of Albany; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Perry Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
