David Toy Shepherd, 67 died June 27, 2007 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville Georgia, after a long illness. He was born in Kentucky on Sept. 19, 1939 and lived in Monroe for the last 30 years. He was preceded in death by his life long friend Gayle Price; two sisters and a brother.

George I. Malcom
George I. Malcom, 91 of Monroe died July 23, 2007. A native and life long resident of Walton County, he was a son of the late Lovette and Allene Rooks Malcom. He was a retired employee of the Coca Cola Bottling Co. and was a charter member of Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held July 25, 2007 in Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Rev. George Rogers officiated and interment was in Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were Larry Brown, Mike Chestnut, Brian Adcock, Billy Conner, Toby Coker and Wayne Wages.

Harriette Baccus
Harriette Baccus, age 85 of Conyers, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007. She is survived by sons; Brian Lee Baccus, Ellijay, Hal Baccus, Conyers, Donald J. Baccus, Covington; sisters, Elizabeth McDowell Walker, Destin, FL, Jean McDonald, Monroe; grandchild, Paige Elizabeth Hegert, Ellijay; great granddaughter, Stella Hegert, Ellijay. Mrs. Baccus was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe, worked for the Centers for Disease Control for over 22 years and was a member or the Monroe Garden Club and other cultural and civic groups. Funeral services were held, Friday, July 27, 2007 at the First Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Glen Money officiating; interment was at Resthaven Cemetery in Monroe. Helen Reading, 82 of Monroe died on July 19, 2007. She was born on Aug. 22, 1924 in Tipton, OK to the late Loie Tarpley Farber and the late Dave Farber. She was preceded in death by her daughter: the late Jonell Reading Carder. Surviving are: husband: James William Reading, Monroe; sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmy and Deborah Reading, Duluth and Chuck and Kit Reading, Bakersfield, CA; daughter and sons-in-law: Anita and Blake Pettus, Monroe and Troy Carder, Snellville; sisters: Neva Chandler, Pixley, CA, Wanda Miller, Santa Clarita, CA, and Norma Day, Hawthorne, NV. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 23 at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Frye officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery.

Nan Braswell, 63 of Monroe died on July 15, 2007. She was born on August 4, 1943 in Walton County to the late Floria Crockett Cochran and the late Benjamin Masters Cochran. She was preceded in death by her husband: the late Gene Braswell; daughter: the late Chris Brooks: sister: the late Pearl Cochran. Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law: David and Mandy Braswell; daughter and son-in-law: Alana and Tony Batchelor, Monroe; sisters: Lois Carter, Monroe, Wynette Stevens, Good Hope, Jayne Crane, Oxford and Elizabeth Langford, Daleville, AL; eight grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 2p.m. on Tuesday, July 17 at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. David Braswell and the Rev. Tony Batchelor officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

Albert L. Thompson, Jr. of Covington, died July 20, 2007 at the age of 55. Mr. Thompson worked a a carpenter, was a gun collector, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. A loving and devoted husband, father and Paw-Paw, he was preceded in death by his father: Albert Lamar Thompson, Sr. and two sisters: Evelyn Thompson and Mary Allgood.

Gordon Livingston McCully
Gordon Livingston McCully, 70, of Monroe passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007. Gordon was born in Hartford, Connecticut on Sept. 4, 1936, son of Albert Beal McCully and Ruth Misel McCully. Surviving are his wife: Thelma A. McCully; daughters: Pamela McCully Lesch, Sheila A. Saginar, and Jennifer E. Miller; as well as sons-in-law: Dr. James Lesch and Dr. Keith Miller. He has seven grandchildren: Jordan Lesch, Culley Lesch, Olivia Lesch, Alaina Saginar, Connor Miller, Kalli Miller, and Kole Miller. Mr. McCully was the captain of the Fort Lauderdale High School Flying L's tennis team, He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the University of Florida, as well as the captain of the Gators' tennis team. He honorably served our nation in the United States Army and was a true animal lover.

He was predeceased by a daughter: Tia Davis.

A native of Gwinnett County, she was a licensed practical nurse having worked for Park Place Nursing and Rehab in Monroe and Russell Nursing Home in Winder. Funeral services were held October 5, 2007 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home, Monroe. The Rev. Luther Britt officiated and interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Winder, GA.

Harriett G. Jones, 69 of Monroe died Sept. 27, 2007. A native of College Park, GA. She was a daughter of the late Harold W. Gunn and Cora Lee Lundsford Gunn. She moved to Monroe in 1992 from Ft. Myers, FL. and was a registered nurse having graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Sept. 29, 2007 in the Monroe First Baptist Church. Dr. Glen H. Money officiated and interment was in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery.

Infant Kaitlin Nash entered into eternal rest on September 26, 2007. Kaitlin Arey Nash, daughter of Spencer Andrew Nash and Caroline McGarity Nash of Charleston, SC. Funeral services were held in J. Henry Stuhr West Ashley Chapel on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at Eleven o’clock. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Kaitlin was born in Charleston, SC. Sept. 26, 2006, the daughter of Spencer Andrew Nash and Caroline McGarity Nash.

Thelma Jo Clegg,
Thelma Jo Clegg, 74, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospice House. A Native of Monroe, GA, she was the daughter of the late Dewey J. and Jeanette Peebles Clegg. She was also preceded in death by her nephew, David H. Gilbert. Thelma was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and retired as a teacher from Roosevelt High School after 25 years of service.

Fred Whatley
Fred Whatley, 39, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at his residence. Born in Newton County he was the son of Patricia Whatley Thomas and step father Timmy Thomas, and the son of late Stewart Swan Whatley. Fred was a member of Ross Chapel Baptist Church where he was a deacon, trustee and Sunday School Teacher of the Teenage Class. He was a supervisor for Pike Electric where he had worked for 20 years. Survivors in add to his mother include his wife of 16 years, Kerri Whatley, daughters: Kelsey and Kaylee Whatley; brothers: Stewart Swan Whatley, Robert Ozane Whatley, Jeff Whatley; sister: Ellyn Cannington and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret Kidd Taylor
Margaret Kidd Taylor, 83 died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007. She was born in Athens, Ga on July 20, 1924 to the late Claude and Maude Kidd. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Sept 28 in Maplewood Cemetery. She lived in Wilson since her marriage in 1946. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active member of Westview Christian Church until her illness prevented her from attending. Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband of 61 years, Gray Taylor; two sons: Ed Taylor and wife, Judy of Rocky Mount and Don Taylor of the home; sister-in-law: Nancy Kidd, Monroe and special friend Tippy Windstead.

Jeffrey Bruce Adams
Jeffrey Bruce Adams, 46 died on Aug. 11, 2007. He was born on Oct. 14, 1960 to the late Larry J. Adams and Gloria Briscoe. He graduated from Avondale Estates High School in 1977. He entered the Marine Corp on Dec. 12, 1977 and was discharged on Dec. 4, 1981. While in the Marine Corp, he advanced from Lance Corporal to Sergeant. He also attended Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC where he studied Criminal Law. He then moved to Monroe and managed the Monroe Motor Inn. Jeff then moved to New York, where he worked at Cumming Engine Co. While in New York, he received his New York Realty License. He moved to Denver, CO where he lobbied for people with Mental Health Problems. He lobbied with alot of heart for the care of people with Mental Health Problems because he was a mental health patient himself. Upon moving back to Georgia he held numerous jobs and moved frequently because of his declining mental health. At the end of his life he lived as a street person. Jeff died on Aug. 11, 2007 under a tree off of Cleveland Ave. in Atlanta.

Surviving are: husband: Ray Hall, Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Janice and Douglas Kurasaka, Snellville; sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Charlie Hall, Monroe, Rick and Renea Hall, Monroe, Darryl C. Hall, Watkinsville; sister: Effie Prather, Monroe; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Known for his Southern Rock hard driving songs, he was an inspiration and continues to be so, for Veteran and newcomers alike. Also Surviving are eight great grandchildren and beloved friend, Joyce Garmon of Decatur.

Kevin Bagley, 34 of Loganville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007. Memorial Services were held at 8pm Friday, Sept 21 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Dr. Ken Ray officiated. Mr. Bagley graduated from Shiloh High in 1991, manager of the boys and girls Basketball, Varsity Football and Junior Varsity Baseball. He participated in the Special Olympics for more than 21 years, active as a Acolyte and in the Children’s Church at Loganville First United Methodist Church. He worked for Creative Enterprises in Gwinnett and Unlimited Services in Walton.

Mark V. Bollnak, 77 of Loganville died November 24, 2007. An Iowa native, he was a retired plumber and had resided in Georgia most of his life. A member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Union # 72, he had served in the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held November 28, 2007 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. Father Daniel Toof was the officiant and interment was in Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder, GA. He is survived by sisters: Mary and William Dickman of New Windsor, NY; Catherine and Jimmy Wood of Nashville, TN; Gail and Flory Leo and Beatrice Dickman both of Des Moines, Iowa; brother: Dale and Gennie Bollnak of Searcy, AR; stepson: Danny Yearwood of Winder; special friend: Frances Mooney of Monroe; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters: Delores Lansing and Clementine Bollnak.

Morrtitt A. Adcock, 74 of Monroe died November 24, 2007. A native and life long resident of Walton County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lilie Mae Knight Adcock. She was the widow of Otis W. Adcock who died in 1994. She was formerly employed by Phillips and Briscoe Drug and Carmichael Drugs and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Funeral services were held November 26, 2007 in Harmony Baptist Church. The Rev. Brant Callaway officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.
