Mr. Bennie Douglas, 59, of Fitzgerald died Monday, March 7, 2005 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Leroy Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Douglas was born August 16, 1945 in Ben Hill County, son of the late Sylvester S. and Ruby Smith Douglas. A 1965 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, Mr. Douglas had lived there all of his life. He was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills, Irwin Manufacturing and H. R. Kaminsky and Sons. He attended the Fitzgerald Church of God.
Survivors include three sisters, Nell D. Johnson, Alva Jean Douglas and Betty Jo Costa, all of Fitzgerald; two nephews, one niece, one great-niece and several aunts and uncles.

Ruby Jones Walters
Mrs. Ruby Jones Walters, 90, of Ocilla died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Palmyra Nursing Home, Albany.
Services were held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla on Friday, February 25 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating. Interment was held at Lilly Cemetery in Lilly at 4 p.m.
Mrs. Walters was born May 12, 1914 in Columbus, daughter of the late James T. and Lovie Talbot Jones. She lived in the community since 1948 and was a former resident of Texas and Brunswick. Mrs. Walters was a homemaker, a former beautician in Vienna and a former saleslady at Hybernia’s in Ocilla. She was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Gus (Beth) Walters, III of Albany, Tori Walters of Asheville, NC and Kristine (Mark) Parsons of Atlanta; six great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Ima Jean Walters of Ashburn and Bunny Coombs of Macon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Walters, Sr. and two sons, Gus Walters, Jr. and James T. “Bubba” Walters.

Clarence William Bryant
Mr. Clarence William Bryant died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Cofee Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Bryant was born in Worth County, Sylvester, on June 6, 1931, son of the late Ulysee and Lula Mae Tyson Bryant. Mr. Bryant was a loving husband, father, and friend to all that knew him. Two brothers and seven sisters and one grandson preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carrie Bell Bryant and 11 children Rosa Mae Woodard, Clarence (Alinda) Ewing, Willie Edward (Judith) Bryant, Annette (Ray) Haynes, Jeanette (Wilson) Johnson, Patricia (Samuel) Ward, John (JoAnn) Bryant, Daryl (Bonita) Bryant, Jacqueline (Stacy) Lewis, Gregory (Willa Mae) Bryant and Lakechia Bryant; two brothers, James (Melvina) Bryant and Columbus (Ernestine) Bryant; five sisters, Lula Mae (Major) Davis, Ruth Gamble, Louvinia White, Carrie (Theodus) Sneed and Catherine (John) Bormus; brothers-in-law, Weyman Rosier, Lonnie B. Burgess, James Charlie (Thelma) Gamble, Samuel (Beverly) Gamble, and Jay (Mary) Gamble. Three sisters-in-law, Ida Lee Paulk, Odessa Merritt and Willie Mae (James) Cherry; a devoted grandson, Artez Bryant and devoted aunt, Essie Lee Martin; 24 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 26 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Wray with Pastor Herbert Coney officiating. Interment followed at the Ocilla City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Clinton Brockington, Dewayne Vickers, Willie Hicks, Lamar Manley, Albert Thomas, Larry Douglas, Kevin Smith and Tommy Pitts.
Honorary Pallbearers were Com. Frank Jackson, Roosevelt Jackson, Alfred Edwards, E. J. Wells, Roy Armour, Albert Reese, Roosevelt Moses and John Johnson.

Gerald E. Williams
Mr. Gerald E. Williams, 76, of Fitzgerald died Monday, February 21, 2005 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Wednesday, February 23 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Randell Daniell officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Johnny Mobley, Luther Covington, Scott Williams, Scott Griffin, Steve Williams, Tim Woods and Michael Williams.

Mr. Williams was born August 8, 1928 in St. Petersburg, FL, son of the late Clarence T. and Hattie Jinks Williams. A retired farmer, he lived in the community most of his life and for 18 years was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Williams was an avid golfer, a former member of the Board of Directors for Farm Bureau, Soil Conservaiton and Water Management and Irwin EMC. He has been Young Farmer of the Year, Ben Hill County Farmer of the Year and Soil and Water Conservationist of the Year. Mr. Williams was a member and served on the Administrative Board of Pine Level United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Meadows Williams of Fitzgerald; daughter, Mary W. Carne of Conyers; son-in-law, Gene Carne of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Caree C. Thomas and Chad Carne, both of Lawrenceville; great-grandchildren, Brady Williams Thomas and Carter White Thomas, both of Lawrenceville; two brothers, Royce C. Williams of Fitzgerald and Earl C. Williams of Conyers; one sister, Sylvia J. Woods of Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, C. T. Williams, Jr.

Martha Grimsley Spencer
Mrs. Martha Grimsley Spencer, 78, of Blakely died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Early Memorial Hospital in Blakely.
Mrs. Spencer was born October 23, 1926 in Clay County, daughter of the late Joseph Franklin Grimsley and Gertrude Thompson Grimsley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Elwood Spencer and five brothers, Bill, J.B., Emmitt, Julian and James Grimsley.
A retired grocery store owner and Southern Bell operator, she lived most of her adult life in Tift County. She was a member of Eldorado Baptist Church, Eldorado.
Survivors include two brothers, Joseph Edward (Chuck) Griimsley and wife, Melba of Headland, AL and Pat Grimisley of Ocilla; two sisters, Mary Frances Swords of Blakely and Mildred Harper of Tifton; many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, February 26 at 2 p.m. at Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, Blakely, with Rev. George Atherholt and Rev. Jessie Grimsley officiating.
Pallbearers were Jeff Harper, Stephen Grimsley, Joe Grimsley, Bo Grimsley, Davey Jones and Marion Whiddon.
Interment was held in the Blakely Cemetery.

Aileen B. Daniels
Mrs. Aileen B. Daniels of Winston Salem, NC died Friday, February 25, 2005 at her residence.
Graveside services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Irwin County on Tuesday, March 1 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mark Swain officiating.
Mrs. Daniels was born in New York, NY, daughter of the late Gilbert and Ethline Bogle. She grew up in New York City and was a former resident of Michigan and Charlotte, NC. A homemaker, Mrs. Daniels loved to travel and was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Winston Salem, NC.
Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Lorena D. Bryant, Leona D. Tucker and Inez D. Wheeler, all of Ocilla; three brothers-in-law, Charles Daniels and Leon Daniels, both of Birmingham, AL and H. M. Daniels of Fitzgerald; caregiver, Merrilyn Harrison and friend, Ann Warren, both of Winston Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ira Daniels.

Edna R. Barfield
Mrs. Edna R. Barfield, 94, of Ocilla died Monday, February 14, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.
Graveside services were held at Riverbend Baptist Church Cemetery, Irwin County on Thursday, February 17 at 11 a.m.
Mrs. Barfield was born March 3, 1910 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Richard and Lucy Henderson Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joe B. Barfield. Mrs. Barfield lived most of her life in Irwin County and was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church. Mrs. Barfield was also an avid flower gardener.
Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn (Loron) Stripling of Jackson, SC; son, Larry (Voncile) Barfield of Ocilla; grandchildren, Michael Stripling, Craig (Kimberly) Stripling, Gary Barfield, Amy Manning, Lori Carter; great-grandchildren, Amy Frey, Richard Stripling, Melissa Wood, Zachary Burch, Zane Stripling; seven great-great-grandchildren.

Charles R. Hawkins
Mr. Charles R. Hawkins, 68, of Irwinville died Sunday, February 20, 2005 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Wednesday, February 23 at 11 a.m., with Charles Bryan officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Wilcox County.
Mr. Hawkins was born October 10, 1936 in Fitzgerald, son of the late J. D. and Ruby Mae Padgett Hawkins. He was a 1954 graduate of Ocilla High School and moved back to Irwinville in 1994 from Atlanta, where he owned and operated C&G Construction Company.
Mr. Hawkins attended Berry College in Rome and after moving back to Irwin County, worked as a paralegal. He was also a former insurance salesman for Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Mr. Hawkins was a volunteer for the Blue-Gray Community Hospice and the Christian Kitchen. He was a member of Irwinville Baptist Church and the American Legion and a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Saudi Arabia.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Hodge Hawkins of Irwinville; five daughters, Deborah Schirm of Mentor, OH; Melissa Blackman of Omaha, NE; Stephanie Davis of Dahlonega; Felicia Simonton of Lawrenceville and Scarlett Ross of Woodstock; three grandchildren, Aidan Davis, Kc Simonton and Ian Ross; a sister, Mary Bradley of Irwinville.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tara McMillan.

Raymond ‘Hulett’ McCurdy
Mr. Raymond “Hulett” McCurdy, 74, of Chula died Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Services were held at Waterloo Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, February 11 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wilton Grimes, Rev. Scott Tidwell and Rev. Royce McCurdy officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lamar Joyner, Casey Joyner, Bill McCurdy, Randy Hiers, Gary McCurdy, Justin McCurdy, Lanier McCurdy, Ben McCurdy, Joe Hilton and Dickie Hilton. Honorary pallbearers include M. J. Bryan, Paul Hampton, P. M. Horne, Curtis Harnage, the Long County Hunting Club and members of the 5th EVAC.
Mr. McCurdy was born April 1, 1930 in Irwin County, son of the late Bob McCurdy and Mildred Ezell King McCurdy. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. McCurdy was a farmer and had lived in Irwin County all of his life. He served in the United States Army, 5th EVAC - Medical during the Korean War. He was a member of the Long County Hunting Club and also a member of Waterloo Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Wright McCurdy of Chula; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Stanley and Gail McCurdy, Ronnie and Wanda McCurdy and LaRue and Tonda McCurdy, all of Waterloo and Craig McCurdy of Albany; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Geraldine “Gerri” and Larry Jordan of Macon and Brenda and Tommy Hilton of Waterloo; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Royce and Jeanette McCurdy of Lake Park and Benny Fred and Patsy McCurdy of Ashburn; one sister, Evelyn Hiers of Lake Park; 12 grandchildren, Penny Jordan, Stephanie and Steve Hogan, Joe Hilton, Heather Hilton, Jennifer McCurdy, Justin McCurdy, Jordan McCurdy, Keri Roberts, Eddie McCurdy, Laura McCurdy, Lanier and Jessica McCurdy and Rebecca McCurdy and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Ansleigh Hogan.

Elneta Harper Hunter
Mrs. Elneta Harper Hunter, 79, of Valdosta died February 14, 2005 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Irwin County on April 18, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Loranzo William John Harper and Minnie Anderson Harper.
Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Hunter on September 18, 2003; two infant daughters, Deborah Lynn and Diane Hunter; one brother, Felton Harper and one grandson, Byron Kroscavage.
She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and also a devout Christian of the Primitive Baptist faith, a teacher and role model.
Survivors include six daughters, Patricia (Andy) Kroscavage of Brunswick; Mary Findlay of Madison, FL; Martha (Sam) Roberts of Brunswick; Anita (Joe Stansel, Pamela Hall, both of Valdosta; Penny (Mark) Pitchford of Atlanta; one son, Larry (Pat) Hunter of Valdosta; two sisters, Velma Lott of Fitzgerald, Martha (Virgil) Towson of Conyers and two brothers, Elmer (Joy) Harper of Jekyll Island and Hugh (Pat) Harper of Conyers.
Services were held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla on Thursday, February 17 at 2 p.m. Burial followed at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Irwin County.
Music was provided by flute soloist, Jennifer Stansel and organist, Marty Smith. A poem was read by Beth Hall and eulogy was given by Paige Durenberger.
Pallbearers include granddaughters, Heather Johnson, Donna Bachman, Debbie Hunter, Paige Durenberger, Beth Hall and Cindy McDonald.

Odelle Roberts Reynolds
Mrs. Odelle Roberts Reynolds, 75, of Fitzgerald died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Services were held at Arbor Baptist Church, Fitzgerald on Friday, February 18 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Music was provided by pianist, Sheila Carter and soloist, Jay Parrack.
Pallbearers were John Alligood, Larry Cobb, Tommy Howell, Ronnie Clemons, Ken Roberts, Wayne Hobby, Wayne Lancaster, Julian Yarbrough.
Honorary pallbearers were the Young at Heart members and the graduating class of 1946.
Mrs. Reynolds was born December 1, 1929 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Jim and Ella Bea Jones Roberts. She moved to Fitzgerald from Irwin County in 1950, graduating from Ocilla High School in 1946. She attended two years of business college in Atlanta. Mrs. Reynolds was a final inspector for H. R Kaminsky & Sons, where she worked for 30 years and was a former employee of Y & W Sportswear.
She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Arbor Lights, the Young At Heart, the Sanctuary Sunday School class and the Pam Hall Discipleship Training class. She was a former member of Callie Garbutt Baptist Church, where she was a Nursery coordinator, Sunday School teacher, Training Union teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and a member of the W. M. U.
Survivors include her children, Dianne (Lamar) McDonald, Lamar (Angie) Reynolds, Joyce Reynolds and Gail Reynolds, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Jason (Lori) McDonald, Justin McDonald, Josh McDonald, all of Fitzgerald; Jennifer (Billy) Mix of Gray; Rebecca Reynolds, Lee Reynolds and LeaAnn (Joey) Wade, all of Fitzgerald; Jamie (Ken) Paulk of Sylvester; ten great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include sisters, Estelle Aycock of Warner Robins, Evelyn Royal of Fitzgerald and Carolyn Hobby of Wray; brothers, Tillman Roberts of Fitzgerald; Frank “Pee Wee” Roberts of White and Clifford Roberts of Calhoun; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. “Buckshot” Reynolds; a brother, Roscoe Roberts and a sister, Doris R. Kilgore.

James L. ‘Pete’ Williams
Mr. James L. “Pete” Williams, 88, of Hahira died Monday, February 21, 2005 in Milledgeville.
Services will be held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald on Wednesday, February 23 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born May 12, 1916 in Ben Hill County, son of the late Simon Peter and Eva Mar Yarbrough Williams. He lived in Hahira since 1979. Mr. Williams served in the United States Army during World War II, serving with the 82nd Airborne, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, serving in the European Theatre and he received the Purple Heart. He was a former employee of Lowell Packing Company, Stone Oil Company and was former owner/operator of Williams Service Station for over 20 years. Mr. Williams was a member of Cecil Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sisters, Lois Wilder of Ocilla; Doris Gentry of Jacksonville, FL and Grace Grantham of Trenton, FL; step-children, Kenneth Deberry of Mystic; Russell Deberry of San Antonio, TX; Jean Spell and Wydene Prescott, both of Watkinsville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Barfield.

Mr. Ottis L. Clark, 66, of Ocilla died Friday, February 11, 2005 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Services were held at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Irwin County, Sunday, February 13 at 3 p.m., with Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. and Garrett Nelms officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Clark was born November 22, 1938 in Irwin County, son of the late Rev. Semer H. and Mary Frances Myrick Clark. He lived in the community all of his life and was a 1957 graduate of Irwin County High School. Mr. Clark was a farmer, a former employee of Ewing Dusting Service and Goodman Welding. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Howell Clark of Ocilla; one daughter, Marsha Fletcher of Panama City, FL; one son, Robert Clark of Ocilla; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Jackie Lee Clark of Ocilla and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ross L. Clark.
