Amy Clarice Sneed
Ms. Amy Clarice Sneed, 23, of Fitzgerald died Sunday, February 6, 2005.
Ms. Sneed was born April 28, 1981, daughter of Reverend and Mrs. Charlie Sneed.
Following in the footsteps of her family, she was an acocmlished musician, mastering both the clarinet and piano.
She joined the Midway Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Harry Henderson and was a faithful attendant at New Bethel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.
A 1999 graduate of Irwin County HIgh school, she attended Spellman College, later transferring to Valdosta State University. After the birth of her daughtr, like her mother, she pursued a career in the medical field, Moultrie Technical College (LPN) and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (RN). She was employed by Preferred Medical Staffing of Fitzgerald. Her goals were to earn a bachelor of science in nursing and later become a nurse practitioner.
Amy touched the lives of many. She loved greatly and was greatly loved in return. She and her brother, Andrew, shared a special bond. They were true friends and confidants. Her greatest gift and joy in her brief life was her daughter, Jaylin.
Survivors include one child, Jaylin Dametria King; three sisters, Cheryl Wilcox of Gwynn Oak, MD, Albertha Sneed of Ocilla and Lillian Collins of Jersey City, NJ; eight brothers, Andrew Sneed of Ocilla, Gerard Wilcox (Tanika) of Tifton, Jonathan Sneed of Lanham-Seabrook, MD, Anthony Sneed (Gail) of Cleveland, MD, Raymond Sneed of Lanham-Seabrook, Alton Sneed (Patricia) of Stockbridge, Lee Martin Sneed (Margaret) and Jack Sneed (Betty), all of Ft. Washington, MD; nine aunts; five uncles; Jaylin’s father, Demetrice King; a special friend, Sean Nelson, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held at Midway Baptist Church, Irwin County on Friday, February 11 at 1 p.m., wth Rev. Raymond King officiating. Music was provided by New Bethel Mass choir and Lee Otis Wilcox.
Active pallbearers were members of Irwin County High School Class of 1999. Honorary pallbearers were her brothers.
Interment was held in Ocilla City Cemetery.
Henderson Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Allene Holden-Moore Mitchell
Ms. Allene Holden-Moore Mitchell of Belle Glade, FL died February 4, 2005. She was 70.
Ms. Mitchell was born February 5, 1934 in Ocilla to Ms. Zeola Holden-Veal and the late Mr. George Holden.
Survivors include her seven daughters, Vivian Moore, Sherly S. Carter, Ella Jean Moore-McCray, Frances Moore, Lafatta Moore-Scott, Charina R. Moore-Williams and Evelyn Moore-Gilmore; sons, Raymond Moore, Melvin Moore, Calvin Moore; sisters, Dorothy Dopson and Mary L. Burroughs; brothers, George Holden Sr. and Rufus Veal; one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, five sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law; 26 grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren; favorite nephew, James Jail Holden and a host of other relatives; special friend, Eula Thomas and special cousins, Ruth Palmer and Pothina Clark.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Lee Moore; three brothers, Clarence Curtis, Harold Williams and Roosevelt Veal.
Services were held at Brochel Chapel C.M.E., Ocilla on Saturday, February 12 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mattie Steverson officiating. Music was provided by soloist Prophetess Brown and the choir.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Interment was held in Ocilla City Cemetery. Henderson Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Will Oscar Edwards, Sr.
Mr. Will Oscar Edwards, Sr. died Wednesday, February 2, 2005. Mr. Edwards, son of the late Johnny Edwards and Rosa Lee Cobb Edwards, was born in Lax on August 13, 1941.
He received his education from the Irwin County schools. He was employed with Gulf and Western, Belleglade, FL for 20 plus years where he retired after serving faithfully.
He was preceded in death by one child, Barbara Edwards Foster, three brothers, Raymond Edwards, Clyde Greena and Phillip Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Fedora Edwards; four sons, Rev. Trevin (Yvette) Simmons of Douglas, Daryl Smith, Will Oscar Edwards, Jr., both of Newark, NJ and Will Oscar Edwards, Jr. of Belleglade, FL; three daughters, Patience (Victor) McCoy of Jacksonville, FL; Tasha Edwards of Slocomb, AL and Rhonda Smith of Newark, NJ; two stepsons, Stanley Simmons of Augusta and Terrell (Alicia) Simmons of Ocilla; eight brothers, Dr. Johnnie (Sandy) Edwards of Tifton, Donnie (Kathi) Edwards, Maurice (Kathy) Edwards, all of Bridgeport, CT; Daniel (Sylvia) Lockett, Jimmy Lockett, Eurston (Sally) Herring, all of Ocilla, Jamie Lockett of Jacksonville, FL and Lloyd McTear of Miami, FL; five sisters, Phyllis Thomas, Frances Powers, Nancy (Alton) Byrd, all of Ocilla; Yvonne (Stanley) Weglarz of Franklin, NH and Gartha Nell (Artie) Gibson of Atlanta; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, mother-in-law, Juanita Simmons of Ocilla;three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a close friend, Bo Anderson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Midway Baptist Church in Holt on Tuesday, February 8 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Johnnie Edwards officiating.
Music was provided by the congregation and soloists, Dea. Willie McClain and Rev. Trevin Simmons.
Active pallbearers were Demetris Curtis, Zant Monroe, Winlon Herring, Calvin Holmes, Dec. Zonta Ashley and Robert Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers were the grandsons, Jarvis Reed, Alvin Smith, Devon Edwards, Brandon Whipple, Trevin Simmons, Jr. and Terrell Simmons, II.
Interment was held in Ocilla City Cemetery. Henderson Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Perry Jones
Mr. Perry Jones, 50, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald on Tuesday, February 15 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Chris Dorrity, Rev. Clayton Dowd and Rev. Nancy Scarbourgh officiating.
Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Jones was born April 1, 1954 in Fitzgerald, son of the late Otis Perry Jones and Jeanette Atkinson Gibson. An employee of Fitzgerald Water, Light and Bond with the gas department, he was a 1972 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, attended ABAC and East Central Technical College. He was a former employee of the Fitzgerald Ice Company and the railroad. He was a member of Bikers Against Disease and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Cara J. Marsh of Fitzgerald; two sisters, Irene Bryant of Fitzgerald and Mildred Jernigan of Wilcox County; one brother, David Thompson of Baton Rouge, LA.

Harvey Paul Hodnett
Mr. Harvey Paul Hodnett, 81, died February 5, 2005.
He was born in Ocilla and graduated from Ocilla High School in 1941. He served four years in the Army in World War II.
He lived in Macon most of his life. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Evelyn Hinton Hodnett, five sons, one daughter, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He is buried at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon.
Kayla Cobb and Angel Cobb
Kayla Cobb and Angel Cobb, infant twins of Ken and Beth Floyd Cobb, were born on March 21, 2005 and died on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Graveside services were held at Union Cemetery, Ben Hill County on Monday, March 28 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Rickie Carver officiating.
In addition to their parents, Kayla and Angel are survived by a brother, William Austin Cobb of Ben Hill County; grandparents, Austin and Pearlie Floyd of Ben Hill County; Lisa Harper of Adel and John Kennon Cobb of Eufaula, AL; great-grandparents, Jan Manning of Ocilla, Wayne and Pearlie Kent of Elba, AL and Kenneth and Jennifer Cobb of Donalsonville.

Larry Manning
Mr. Larry Manning, 61, of Ocilla died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Osceola Nursing Home.
Services were held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla on Friday, March 25 at 2 p.m., with Rev. David Biggers officiating. Interment followed in Lax Community Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Wilkes, Terry Manning Walker, Robert Hutto, Tim Hutto, Danny Hoth and Todd Johnson
Music was provided by organist, Marty Smith and soloist, Susan Harper.
Mr. Manning was born July 14, 1943 in Irwin County, son of the late Hall Stephen Manning, Sr. and Jackie Lee Tucker Manning. He lived in the Irwin community most of his life. Mr. Manning was an auto mechanic, having worked for Fitzgerald Ford, Sheppard’s Garage, Quality Muffler and Simpson’s Auto Clinic. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Jan P. Manning of Ocilla; daughter and son-in-law, Teressa and Allen Pope of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Renee Manning of Fitzgerald; two step daughters and step son-in-law, Lisa Harper of Adel and Laura and Jimmy Watson of Thomaston; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Joyce Manning of Mableton; Terry and Marty Manning Walker of Milan; Bobby and Dawn Manning of Gray; Jessie and Mary Manning of Champaign, IL; Jimmie and Cecilia Manning of Franklin, TN; Billy and Charlene Manning of Tampa, FL and Gary Manning of Atlanta; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and Ernest Padgett of Jacksonville and Linda Manning of California; many nieces and nephews.
Mary Clyde Hattaway Tyler
Mrs. Mary Clyde Hattaway Tyler, 86, of Ocilla died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at her residence.
Services were held at Ocilla Baptist Church on Thursday, March 24 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gerald Thomas and Rev. Jesse Alligood officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Fabian, Drew Irvin, Woody Woods, Wycliff Griffin, Chip Dorminey, Steve Poe, Wesley Paulk and David McCranie.
Honorary pallbearers were the Martha Sunday School class.
Music was provided by pianist, Jan Morgan and soloist, Randy Reeves. Holly Marie Fletcher did a reading.
Mrs. Tyler was born September 20, 1918 in Davisboro, daughter of the late Clyde Hilton and Emily Adams Hattaway. She was a homemaker and former bookkeeper for her husband at Farmer Milling Company. Mrs. Tyler was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church, the Martha Sunday School class and was active on the Bereavement Committee at the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Emily Tyler McBride of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Walter E. Tyler II of Ocilla; four grandchildren, Marion Tyler Clark of Atlanta, Anna Tyler Edgar of Moultrie, Walter E. “Bucky” Tyler III of Ocilla and Holly Marie Fletcher of Atlanta; three great-grandchildren, Ty Edgar and Mary Grace Edgar, both of Moultrie and Lauren Tyler of Ocilla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Tyler and a grandson, Trey Clark.

Lawrence Kittle
Mr. Lawrence Kittle, 65, of Mystic died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at his residence.
Services were held at Mystic Baptist Church on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dan Johnson, Rev. Greg Carroll, Rev. Sonny Pate and Rev. Charles Bryant officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rusty Hickey, Don Hickey, Russell Hickey, Wendall Hall, Ricky Latham, Harry Mixon and Clifford Dove.
Honorary pallbearers were the Long County Hunting Club.
Music was provided by pianist, Renae Hickey Hall.
Mr. Kittle was born May 25, 1939 in Randolph County, AL, son of the late Hershel J. and Claudie Smith Kittle. A farmer, he lived in the community for the past 56 years. Mr. Kittle was a member, deacon and former Sunday School director of Mystic Baptist Church and caretaker of Mystic Cemetery. He was a member of the Long County Hunting Club, poll manager for the Mystic voting precinct and past-chairman of the Board of Trustees of Irwin Academy. Mr. Kittle operated Kittle’s Peach Farm for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth W. Kittle of Mystic; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Beth and Tony Tucker and Amy and Billy Hancock, all of Mystic; five grandchildren, Austin Brett Tucker, Matthew Walton Tucker, Brooks William Tucker, Anna Elizabeth Hancock and Callie Catherine Hancock; sisters, Myrtice Ring of Columbus, Mary Jo Merritt of Tifton and twin sister, Florence Latham of Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lawrence Kittle.

Abigail T. ‘Abbie’ Morgan
Mrs. Abigail T. “Abbie” Morgan, 91, of Fitzgerald died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Services were held at Arbor Baptist Church on Monday, March 28 at 2 p.m., with Rev. David Fisher, Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and Rev. John K. Mobley and Richard Cargile officiating. Virginia Miles gave the eulogy. Interment followed in the Old Valley Grove Cemetery, Irwin County.
Pallbearers were David Miles, Richard Morgan, Jeff Miles, Tracy Paul, Chris Morgan, Keith Griner, Kevin Griner and Mitchell Fowler.
Music was provided by pianist, Sandy Woods and soloist, Jean Cauley. Soloist at the graveside was Susan Ivey.
Mrs. Morgan was born July 19, 1913 in Chambers County, AL, daughter of the late W. T. and Susan Annie Mann Tucker. She had lived in Irwin and Ben Hill Counties all of her life. She was a farm wife who raised six children following her husband’s death in 1949. She was a former manager for Cohen’s department store in Ocilla.
Mrs. Morgan was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church, now Crossview Baptist Church and a member of the Nancy Gordon Sunday School class. She also worked with the Green Thumb Senior’s program of Ben Hill County.
Survivors include her children, Jenny and Donald Miles of Fitzgerald, Buster and Christie Morgan of Moultrie, Brenda and Edwin Paul of Fitzgerald, Linda and Herman Griner of Perry and Buddy Morgan of Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law, Edna Morgan of Albany; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and one sister, Myrtle Bridges of Albany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis P. Morgan; one son, Preston R. “Bud” Morgan; two brothers and one sister.
Sabria Ruth Mikloski
Mrs. Sabria Ruth Mikloski, 60, died Monday night, March 21, 2005 at Satilla Regional Medical center following an extended illness.
She was a native of Ocilla but had resided most of her life in Waycross. She was the daughter of the late Ralph M. Phillips. She was a registered nurse with Satilla Care Center and was a member of Grace Chapel Church.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Phillips of Valdosta; a sister, Janice Paulk of Valdosta; two brothers, William R. Phillips of Hawkinsville, Richard H. Phillips of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services were held at Grace Chapel on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m. Burial was in Sweetwater Cemetery in Pearson.

Dollie Rayford of Ocilla died Sunday, March 27, 2005. Services will be held Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at Broaches Chapel CME Church. Interment will be in Ocilla Cemetery. Henderson Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Pamela M. Browning, 43, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, March 28, at Dorminy Medical Center, Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, at Evergreen Cemetery, with Rev. Bobby Stone officiating.

Reginald J. O’Neal, Jr.
Mr. Reginald J. O’Neal, Jr., 20, of Ocilla died Friday, March 11, 2005.
He graduated from Bill E. Ireland School in Milledgeville in 2003. He obtained certificates of trades in barber and brick masonry.
Survivors include his mother, Pennie Lewis Hollis; his father, Reginald O’Neal, stepfather, Rico Hollis; three sisters, Moniee and Samantha of Ocilla and Rochelle; two brothers, Marlcon and Justin Lewis; grandmothers, Annie Mae Lewis and Katherine O’Neal; great-great-grandmother, Essie Marshall; aunts and uncles, Larry Lewis, Arthur Monroe, Donnell Lewis, Cheryl Harris, Anthony O’Neal, Jasper O’Neal, all of Ocilla, Freddie Lewis, Freda Davis, Harvey O’Neal, all of Orlando, FL, Milton Marshall of Fitzgerald, Lamar O’Neal of Daytona Beach, FL, Marjorie Leonard and Lois of Osierfield; great uncle, Chester Lewis; a special great uncle, Rev.
