Mary Clyde Hattaway Tyler
Mrs. Mary Clyde Hattaway Tyler, 86, of Ocilla died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at her residence.
Services were held at Ocilla Baptist Church on Thursday, March 24 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gerald Thomas and Rev. Jesse Alligood officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Fabian, Drew Irvin, Woody Woods, Wycliff Griffin, Chip Dorminey, Steve Poe, Wesley Paulk and David McCranie.
Honorary pallbearers were the Martha Sunday School class.
Music was provided by pianist, Jan Morgan and soloist, Randy Reeves. Holly Marie Fletcher did a reading.
Mrs. Tyler was born September 20, 1918 in Davisboro, daughter of the late Clyde Hilton and Emily Adams Hattaway. She was a homemaker and former bookkeeper for her husband at Farmer Milling Company. Mrs. Tyler was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church, the Martha Sunday School class and was active on the Bereavement Committee at the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Emily Tyler McBride of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Walter E. Tyler II of Ocilla; four grandchildren, Marion Tyler Clark of Atlanta, Anna Tyler Edgar of Moultrie, Walter E. “Bucky” Tyler III of Ocilla and Holly Marie Fletcher of Atlanta; three great-grandchildren, Ty Edgar and Mary Grace Edgar, both of Moultrie and Lauren Tyler of Ocilla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Tyler and a grandson, Trey Clark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ocilla Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 101, Ocilla, GA 31774.
Lawrence Kittle
Mr. Lawrence Kittle, 65, of Mystic died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at his residence.
Services were held at Mystic Baptist Church on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dan Johnson, Rev. Greg Carroll, Rev. Sonny Pate and Rev. Charles Bryant officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rusty Hickey, Don Hickey, Russell Hickey, Wendall Hall, Ricky Latham, Harry Mixon and Clifford Dove.
Honorary pallbearers were the Long County Hunting Club.
Music was provided by pianist, Renae Hickey Hall.
Mr. Kittle was born May 25, 1939 in Randolph County, AL, son of the late Hershel J. and Claudie Smith Kittle. A farmer, he lived in the community for the past 56 years. Mr. Kittle was a member, deacon and former Sunday School director of Mystic Baptist Church and caretaker of Mystic Cemetery. He was a member of the Long County Hunting Club, poll manager for the Mystic voting precinct and past-chairman of the Board of Trustees of Irwin Academy. Mr. Kittle operated Kittle’s Peach Farm for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth W. Kittle of Mystic; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Beth and Tony Tucker and Amy and Billy Hancock, all of Mystic; five grandchildren, Austin Brett Tucker, Matthew Walton Tucker, Brooks William Tucker, Anna Elizabeth Hancock and Callie Catherine Hancock; sisters, Myrtice Ring of Columbus, Mary Jo Merritt of Tifton and twin sister, Florence Latham of Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lawrence Kittle.

Abigail T. ‘Abbie’ Morgan
Mrs. Abigail T. “Abbie” Morgan, 91, of Fitzgerald died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Services were held at Arbor Baptist Church on Monday, March 28 at 2 p.m., with Rev. David Fisher, Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and Rev. John K. Mobley and Richard Cargile officiating. Virginia Miles gave the eulogy. Interment followed in the Old Valley Grove Cemetery, Irwin County.
Pallbearers were David Miles, Richard Morgan, Jeff Miles, Tracy Paul, Chris Morgan, Keith Griner, Kevin Griner and Mitchell Fowler.
Music was provided by pianist, Sandy Woods and soloist, Jean Cauley. Soloist at the graveside was Susan Ivey.
Mrs. Morgan was born July 19, 1913 in Chambers County, AL, daughter of the late W. T. and Susan Annie Mann Tucker. She had lived in Irwin and Ben Hill Counties all of her life. She was a farm wife who raised six children following her husband’s death in 1949. She was a former manager for Cohen’s department store in Ocilla.
Mrs. Morgan was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church, now Crossview Baptist Church and a member of the Nancy Gordon Sunday School class. She also worked with the Green Thumb Senior’s program of Ben Hill County.
Survivors include her children, Jenny and Donald Miles of Fitzgerald, Buster and Christie Morgan of Moultrie, Brenda and Edwin Paul of Fitzgerald, Linda and Herman Griner of Perry and Buddy Morgan of Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law, Edna Morgan of Albany; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and one sister, Myrtle Bridges of Albany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis P. Morgan; one son, Preston R. “Bud” Morgan; two brothers and one sister.
Sabria Ruth Mikloski
Mrs. Sabria Ruth Mikloski, 60, died Monday night, March 21, 2005 at Satilla Regional Medical center following an extended illness.
She was a native of Ocilla but had resided most of her life in Waycross. She was the daughter of the late Ralph M. Phillips. She was a registered nurse with Satilla Care Center and was a member of Grace Chapel Church.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Phillips of Valdosta; a sister, Janice Paulk of Valdosta; two brothers, William R. Phillips of Hawkinsville, Richard H. Phillips of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services were held at Grace Chapel on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m. Burial was in Sweetwater Cemetery in Pearson.
Reginald J. O’Neal, Jr.
Mr. Reginald J. O’Neal, Jr., 20, of Ocilla died Friday, March 11, 2005.
He graduated from Bill E. Ireland School in Milledgeville in 2003. He obtained certificates of trades in barber and brick masonry.
Survivors include his mother, Pennie Lewis Hollis; his father, Reginald O’Neal, stepfather, Rico Hollis; three sisters, Moniee and Samantha of Ocilla and Rochelle; two brothers, Marlcon and Justin Lewis; grandmothers, Annie Mae Lewis and Katherine O’Neal; great-great-grandmother, Essie Marshall; aunts and uncles, Larry Lewis, Arthur Monroe, Donnell Lewis, Cheryl Harris, Anthony O’Neal, Jasper O’Neal, all of Ocilla, Freddie Lewis, Freda Davis, Harvey O’Neal, all of Orlando, FL, Milton Marshall of Fitzgerald, Lamar O’Neal of Daytona Beach, FL, Marjorie Leonard and Lois of Osierfield; great uncle, Chester Lewis; a special great uncle, Rev. Charlie Sneed; a special nephew, Dewayne O’Neal; a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held on Saturday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Ocilla, with Rev. I. B. Harmon, Jr. officiating.
Music was provided by the choir.
Pallbearers were Michael Harris, Earnest Freeman, Horace Laster, Jimmy Cobb, Raymond Lewis, Danny Hodge, Larry Lewis and Charles Hollis.
Interment was held in Ocilla City Cemetery.

Maggie Paulk Clements
Mrs. Maggie Paulk Clements, 92, of Ocilla died Monday, March 14, 2005 at the Osceola Nursing Home.
Services were held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla on Wednesday, March 16 at 11 a.m. Interment followed in Tomberlin Cemetery, Irwin County.
Mrs. Clements was born February 7, 1913 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Aza and Mattie Tomberlin Paulk. She was a homemaker and lived in Irwin County all of her life.
Survivors include a brother, Gerald Paulk of Carrollton and a sister, Billie Daniels of Savannah. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. “Jim” Clements and daughter, Miss Jackie Clements.

Wayne Garland
Mr. Wayne Garland, 52, of Douglas died Friday, March 18, 2005 at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas.
Services were held at Central United Methodist Church, Fitzgerald on Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m. Scripture and prayer by Rev. Benjy Varnell. Scripture and prayer at graveside by Rev. Don Woeltjen. Message by Rev. Gregory Pope. Closing prayer by Rev. Jackie Pope. Remarks at graveside by Kathy Garland and friends.
Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Phil Hurd, Mike Brown, Ray Bowen, Danny Daniel, Jerry Jamison, Wayne Vickers, Joe Sunday, Russell Jump and Glenn Ellerby.
Music was provided by pianist, Becky Anderson and soloists, Abby Johnson, Massee McKinley and Trey Luckie.
Mr. Garland was born September 4, 1952 in Cartersville, son of the late Chester and Bertie Grace Jenkins Garland. Raised in Turner County, Mr. Garland graduated from Turner County High School in 1971 and attended Albany Technical College. He was a former resident of Fitzgerald having lived in Douglas for the past two years, coming from Rose Pine, LA.
Mr. Garland was employed by River Crest Homes of Ocilla, a division of Precision Modular Homes as a mobile home salesman. He was a former employee of General Housing in Waycross and Pioneer Housing Systems in Fitzgerald. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Douglas and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Garland of Douglas; two daughters and a son-in-law, April and Stacy Lasseter and Brooke Garland of Sycamore; one granddaughter, Ragen Lasseter of Sycamore; one sister, Kathy Register of Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews and his devoted Cocker Spaniel, Tobey.

Murphey Rogers
Mr. Murphey Rogers, 83, of Ocilla died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Services will be held at the Ocilla United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 29 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jim Osborn and Rev. Jesse Alligood officiating. Giving the eulogy will be Ted Lavender. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery.
Mr. Rogers was born September 11, 1921 in Ocilla, son of the late Henry Levy and Ruth Murphey Rogers. He lived in Ocilla all of his life and graduated from Ocilla High School in 1938. He received his law degree from the Lumpkin School of Law at University of Georgia in 1943. He passed the bar exam at the age of 21 on June 30, 1943, eight days prior to entering the U. S. Navy. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
Following an honorable discharge, he was admitted to the bar in July 1946. Mr. Rogers served as president of the Tifton Judicial Circuit Bar Association and as a member of the Board of Governors of the Georgia Bar Association. He formerly served as the attorney for the City of Ocilla for 16 years and Irwin County for eight years during which time the new county jail was constructed.
Mr. Rogers was one of the founders, an original director and a former president of Irwin Federal Savings and Loan of Ocilla and was on the Board of Directors at First State Bank. He was also an original founder and director of the Bank of Ocilla and its merger with Citizens Security Bank, holding the office of President and Chairman of the Board.
He joined Ocilla Methodist Church, South in 1930 and was a member of the Board of Stewards, a trustee and official board member and past chairman of the board of Ocilla United Methodist Church. He was a Certified Lay Speaker of the South Georgia Conference and had served as a Sunday School teacher since 1946.
He was a Boy Scout having attained the Star Rank in 1936. He served as both a cubmaster and scoutmaster and was an active member of the Executive Boards of the Okefenokee and Alapaha Area Councils. A member of the Order of the Arrow, he received the Silver Beaver Award and the 50-year Service Award. He was a member and former president of the Ocilla Lions Club, the Irwin County Chamber of Commerce and was secretary of the Industrial Development Corporation of Irwin County. He received the Humanitarian Award from the Chamber of Commerce in 2000.
Mr. Rogers served as secretary and an original member of the Irwin County Hospital Authority that obtained the First Hill-Burton Hospital for Irwin County. He served as a trustee of the Palemon Gaskins Trust and was vice-chairman and a trustee of the Ben Hill-Irwin Vocational Educational Technical Foundation. Mr. Rogers was a member of Jeff Davis Post No. 100 of the American Legion and served as the chairman of the War Memorial Committee and keynote speaker for the dedication of the Irwin County Veterans Memorial.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene A. Rogers of Ocilla; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clauye C. and Hazel McCranie of Ocilla and W. David and Julie McCranie of Fitzgerald; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, George W. Rogers of Columbia, SC He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. H. Levy Rogers.
The family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them to Local Boy Scouts, Ocilla United Methodist Church or Irwin County Library.

Waymond Cunningham, Jr.
Mr. Waymond Cunningham, Jr., 27, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005.
Mr. Cunningham was born December 2, 1977 in Fort Myers, FL to Agatha (Francis) Monroe of Fort Myers, FL and Waymond Cunningham, Sr. of Fitzgerald.
He attended school in Fitzgerald. He joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at an early age.
Survivors include his father, Waymond Cunningham, Sr. of Fitzgerald; stepmother, Amy Cunningham of Fitzgerald; mother, Agatha Monroe (Terrance) of Fort Myers, FL; grandmother, Dorothy Mae Francis of Fort Myers, FL; step-grandmother, Sarah Troupe (Levie) of Douglas; grandfather, Nathaniel Francis of Fort Myers, FL; brothers, Ricky Mack (Christina) of Orlando, FL; Paul Thomas of Fort Myers, FL; Gary Cunningham and Michael Cunningham, both of Fitzgerald; sisters, Dionne Glover (Rick) of Fort Myers, FL and Debra Thomas of Dublin; aunts, Alberta Rivers (Will) of Ocilla; Kathleen Doberson (Charlie); Vivian Pittman (Peter), all of Fitzgerald and Magalene Cunningham of Ocilla; one uncle, Benjamin Cunningham (Bernice) of Fitzgerald; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Irwin County on Monday, June 27 at 1 p.m., with Rev. James Curtis officiating.
Music was provided by the choir and soloist, Sis. Evelyn Anderson.
Friends of the family served as pallbearers.
Interment was held in Ocilla City Cemetery.

Ruth M. Wright
Ms. Ruth M. Wright, 64, of Fitzgerald died Friday, June 24, 2005 at Dorminy Medical Center. Graveside services were held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Rebecca, on Saturday, June 25 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Joe Wiggins officiating.
Pallbearers were Wendell Waldrop, Bobby Wiley, Carl Kemp, Grable Coleman, Earl Farmer and Danny Ray Durr.
Ms. Wright was born June 1, 1941 in Ben Hill County, daughter of the late Seaborn and Annie Pauline Coleman Moody. She lived in the community for the past ten years from Tifton, where she was a member of the 4 Square Pentecostal Church. Ms. Wright was a former gospel singer with the Tifton Echoes. She was a former vegetable grader and a former employee of Tifton Chemical Company.
Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia Davidson of Annapolis, MO; Pauline Kemp of Piedmont, MO; Marilyn Curtis of Carnesville and Darlene Strickland of Tifton; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Sudie Musselwhite of Fitzgerald; Sylvia Wiley of Ashburn; Reba Whitley, Bernice Black, Ann Walsh and Vameer Mitchell, all of Fitzgerald; brothers, Richard and Curtis Moody, both of Albany.

Agnes M. Grantham
Mrs. Agnes M. Grantham, 92, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Sunday, June 26 at 2 p.m., with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and Elder Jerry Barrs officiating. Interment followed in Brushy Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Grantham was born March 13, 1913 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Walton and Delilah Harper Mixon. She lived in the community since 1946. Mrs. Grantham was a seamstress at Perfect Pants and at H. R. Kaminsky & Sons for 38 years. She was a member of the Fitzgerald Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Myra Nell Teal of Fitzgerald and Jane E. Miles of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elton “Shorty” Grantham, three brothers and one sister.

Irene C. New
Mrs. Irene C. New, 96, of Ocilla died Friday, June 24, 2005 at Beverly Health Care in Tifton.
Services were held Sunday, June 26 at 5 p.m. at Ocilla Church of God, with Rev. Clayton Dowd, Rev. Dewain Joiner and her granddaughter, Rev. Kimberly Keen officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Music was provided by Kenny Croft and Wendy Dowd.
Pallbearers were Joel Blanchett, Jonathan Dickens, Jason Hunter, Robbie Davis, Trever Griffin, Jamie Baggett.
Honorary pallbearers were the Adult Sunday School Class.
Mrs. New was born April 18, 1909 in Lithonia, daughter of the late Allen and Susie Haney Campbell. She lived in Ocilla for the past 25 years, having lived most of her life in Fitzgerald. Mrs. New was a minister’s wife and a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills. She was a member of the Ocilla Church of God and the Senior adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and H. D. Luke of Ocilla; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Shirley New of Fernandina Beach, FL; ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy Campbell of Lithonia and Louis Campbell of Stone Mountain; sisters, Lillie Attaway of Tennessee and Louise Stephens of Conyers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John William New, Sr.; two sons, two daughters, two brothers and one sister.
Ernest Paul
Mr. Ernest Paul, 59, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Ashburn Health Care.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 29 at 4:30 p.m. at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Wilburn Wiley officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Paul was born October 14, 1945, son of the late James Wallace and Maltsy Jane Scott Paul. He was a former resident of Clermont, FL; Tifton and Ocilla. He was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Y. Paul of Fitzgerald; sons, Ernest Paul Sr. of Fitzgerald and Michael Paul of Valdosta; daughters, Becky Paul of Fitzgerald; Brenda Wilhelm of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and Bonnie A. King of Valdosta; sisters, Betty Eller and Diane Moore, both of Groveland, FL; Rachel Eller of Clermont, FL and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Belinda Paul
