Charles L. Daniels, Sr.
Mr. Charles L. Daniels, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2005 at the age of 97 in Birmingham, AL.
Services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Irwin County on Saturday, August 6 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Mark Swain officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Daniels, Larry Sartain, Jimmy Purvis, Ronald Metts, Glenn Tucker and Tommy Tucker.
Music was provided by pianist, Libby Spicer and a trio of Paige Swain, Betty Metts and Libby Spicer.
Mr. Daniels was born November 9, 1907, one of 10 children, son of the late Thomas William and Mattie Arnold Daniels, of the Bethlehem community in Irwin County. He attended schools in Irwin County and graduated in 1928 from Georgia Normal Business College in Douglas.
He was employed with Harris Department Store in Ocilla and later his ties with Chevrolet began as he was employed by dealers in Ocilla, Tifton and Bradenton, FL. Mr. Daniels’ work with Chevrolet was well noted and brought him and his family to Birmingham, AL to work with the Chevrolet Motor Division Zone office to install the General Motors Standard Accounting System at dealers in Alabama and several surrounding states. He later was employed by Wood Chevrolet Company in Birmingham, AL as treasurer and worked at several other companies owned by Mr. Wood until his retirement.
His many contributions on the subject of Automotive dealer accounting resulted to his being listed in “Who’s Who in Alabama” and “Who’s Who in Finance and Industry”, both in the United States and their World Editions.
Mr. Daniels was a former member, deacon, Sunday School teacher and treasurer of Norwood Baptist Church in Alabama. He was named Layman of the year in 1967 by the Birmingham Post Herald. He performed many of the same functions while a member of Crestway Baptist Church. At his death he was a Deacon Emeritus. He had a passion for growing camellias and sharing their beauty with family and friends. Mr. Daniels was a member and former treasurer of the Birmingham Camellia Society and won many awards for his prize-winning camellias.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia D. Sartain of Birmingham, AL; son, Charles L. (Juanita) Daniels, Jr. of Helena, AL; two grandsons, Larry (Sarah) Sartain of Palham, AL and Jeff (Robbie) Daniels of Birmingham, AL; three granddaughters, Susan (Rick) Elder of Pinson, AL, Nancy (Gary) Gray of Bear, DE and Rebecca (William) McCoy of Warrior, AL; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leon (Ruth) Daniels of Birmingham, AL and H. M. (Annie Jim) Daniels of Fitzgerald; two sisters, Lorena (Edward) Bryant and Inez Wheeler, both of Ocilla, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edna Harper Daniels; three brothers, Cleo Daniels, Emmett Daniels and Ira “Dan” Daniels and two sisters, Agnes Hobbs and Leona Tucker.

Louellen Sandefur Daniel
Louellen Sandefur Daniel, a former resident of Mystic and Fitzgerald, began her eternal life on July 31, 2005 in Albuquerque, NM after complications from diabetes. She was born July 6, 1916, the first child of 11 children to John James Sandefur and Vara Lou Reeves in Crawford County. Both parents descended from early settlers of the county.
She married Robert T. Daniel on May 1, 1936 in Griffin. They resided in Thomaston and both worked at the East Thomaston textile mill. God blessed this union with two daughters, Rosemary Thompson of Fitzgerald and Ginger Parkman of Sylvester; four sons, Terry of Anderson, SC, Wayne of Albuquerque, NM, Kenny of Bonaire and Nelson of Prattville, AL.
Survivors besides her children include her 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and her siblings: sisters, Annie Mae Slade of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Mary Jackson of N. Little Rock, AR; Eunice Tatum of Fayetteville and Vivian Phillips of W. Palm Beach, FL; brothers, Edwin of Pooler, David of Macon, Eugene of Lizella and Raymond of Macon.
Relatives who preceded her in death were her husband, Robert; brothers, Milton and James; grandson, Chris Ewing and son-in-law, Buddy Givens.
Mrs. Daniel’s life was celebrated on August 6 at Mystic Baptist Church with interment at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert T. Daniel, Jr., Michael Daniel, Harold K. Daniel, Jr., Cedric Ewing, Daniel Hughes, Robert Troy Daniel, Jimmy Daniel and Bruce Sandefur.
Honorary pallbearers were Lee Jackson and Frank Slade.
Music was provided by pianist, Renee Hall and soloist, Brandi Folmar.

Pauline M. Reeves
Mrs. Pauline M. Reeves, 86, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas.
Services were held at Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County on Sunday, August 7 at 2 p.m., with Elder Charles Tyson and Elder Melvin Stringer officiating. Interment followed in the Irwinville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris McGee, Marty McGee, Randy Stringer, Greg Stringer, Wendell Marchant, Bud Johnson and Willis Linahan.
Music was provided by the Old Valley Grove singers
Mrs. Reeves was born January 31, 1919, daughter of the late William Wiley and Lillie Mae Young McGee. She lived in the community since 1964. Mrs. Reeves was a former grader for Joe Todd Egg Company in Macon and Gray Peanut Mill in Ocilla. She was a member of Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxillary.
Survivors include two brothers and a sister, G. W. McGee of Irwinville, Walter McGee of Poulan and Mattie Lou Snowden of Fitzgerald, as well as several nieces and nephews with whom she was very close. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Linal Reeves; three sisters, Willie Mae Stringer, Ruth Gandy and Lavinia McGee and a brother, Phillip McGee.

Debbie Lee Tomberlin
Mrs. Debbie Lee Tomberlin, 47, of Wheeler County died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at her residence.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Saturday, July 30 at 2 p.m. with Elder Jimmy Bedingfield officiating.
Mrs. Tomberlin was born August 5, 1957 in Fitzgerald, daughter of the late Regionald Lee and the late Wilma Dean Thompson. Her mother and stepfather, Alden Alligood, raised her. She moved to Lumber City in December of last year from Fitzgerald. Mrs. Tomberlin was a former secretary for Ben Hill County Magistrate Tom Lester and a former employee of Gene’s Furniture. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church, formerly Northside Baptist, where she sang in the youth choir.
Survivors include her husband, David Lee Tomberlin of Wheeler County; stepfather, Alden Alligood of Moultrie; stepson, Jonathan David Tomberlin of Wheeler County; brother, Jim Thompson of Fitzgerald; sister, Vera Peacock of Dothan, AL; aunts and uncles, Olean and Gene Davis of Fitzgerald and Brenda and Jimmy Bedingfield of Irwin County.
An infant son, Jeremy Allen Speight, preceded her in death.

Bobby Sanford
Mr. Bobby Sanford, 60, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at his residence.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Friday, July 29 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dan Hayes and Rev. James Hubbard officiating. Interment followed at Bethlehem Cemetery, Ben Hill County.
Pallbearers were Stacy Mixon, Chris Wynn, Eddie Rayl, Wayne Wynn, Richard Thorp, Lee Bryant, Bobby Roberts and Bruce Green.
Music was provided by organist, Frances Beck; duet, Byron and Barbara Mobley and pianist, Dorothy Jean Fuller.
Mr. Sanford was born November 8, 1944 in Blackshear, son of the late Joseph and Nolie Singletary Sanford. He lived in the community most of his life and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War Era where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars.
Mr. Sanford was a carpenter and brick mason. He owned/operated Sanford & Son Salvage, was a former school bus driver for Ben Hill County, a former employee of the Fitzgerald Public Housing Authority and former maintenance supervisor at Summit Apartments. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and attended the Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Sanford was an active member of the American Legion Post #99.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Alexander Sanford of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Tammie Sanford of Fitzgerald; daughter, Jessica Sanford of Milltown, NJ; granddaughter, Gaby Sanford of Fitzgerald and brothers, Zebbie Sanford and Diamond Sanford, both of Americus. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Ellen Sandefur Daniel
Mrs. Ellen Sandefur Daniel, 89, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Laurel Skies Healthcare in Albuquerque, NM where she had been a resident for four years. She was formerly of Roberta, Thomaston, Forsyth, Mystic, Cordele and Fitzgerald.
Services will be held Saturday, August 6 at 11 a.m. at Mystic Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Jermaine Thomas McCormick
Jermaine Thomas McCormick died July 14, 2005.
Jermaine was born September 9, 1991 in Fitzgerald to Mary McCormick and Kenneth Anderson.
He was a member of Christian Fellowship Tabernacle. Jermaine was a student at Irwin County Middle School and loved to play sports. He was a loving person who enjoyed life. He was full of love, laughter and had a beautiful smile. He had a lot of friends and was loved by everyone.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clyde and Etta Anderson.
Survivors include his mother, Mary McCormick; father, Kenneth Anderson; sister, Tiffany McCormick; grandparents, George and Lessie MCormick; aunts, Jessie (Leroy) Gainer, Laverne (Ricky) Slacks of Mystic, Betty Rogers, Ida (Allen) Brown, Eva (Nathaniel) Powell of Fitzgerald, Mae Frances (Keith) Sharpe of Killeen, TX, Ruby Nell McCormick and Jewel McCormick, both of Ocilla; uncles, Willie Frank McCormick, James McCormick, both of Ocilla, Jason McCormick of Mystic and George McCormick, Jr. of WarnerRobins; a close friend, Herman Collins; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Carl Stanley of Christian Fellowship Tabernacle officiating.
Music was provided by soloist, Evelyn Anderson and Henderson Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers were Willie Frank McCormick, James McCormick, Nathaniel Powell, George McCormick, Jr., Jason McCormick and Donald Marshall.
Interment was held in Ocilla City Cemetery.
Ed Snyder
Mr. Ed Snyder, 79, died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at Redmond Regional Hospital in Rome. He was the eldest son of the late Sam and Louise Snyder and the husband of Mary Snyder. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan and Herbert.
A member for many years of numerous civic and church organizations, he was recently honored with the Georgia Lions Outstanding Deaf Award for the State of Georgia. Although he received numerous awards and recognitions during his lifetime, this was his most meaningful, because of his hearing impairment.
Ed’s long career included radio broadcasting and working with the hearing impaired. In his later life, he came to understand his identity in Christ. He always commented that if he had known how wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren were, he would have had them first. He was a much-loved and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 26 at Lord and Stephens Chapel, West in Bogart at 3 p.m. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers were Lions and member of the Word Bearers Sunday School class.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Jonni Snyder of Ocilla; Neil and Katie Snyder of Townville, SC; daughter, Carol Snyder LaBarre of Rome; sister, Dorothy (Dick) Broom of SC; brother, James (Jody) Snyder of SC; six grandchildren, Melanie, Peter (Joey), David, Rebekah, Stephen (Leah) and Laura; two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Mason; many nieces and nephews.

Christopher Mark Paulk
Mr. Christopher Mark Paulk, age 30, of Wray passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla. Mr. Paulk was born in Tift County October 21, 1974, son of Carlton Jerome and Emma Faye Evans Paulk. He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Carmen Wright Paulk of Wray; parents, Faye and Jerome Paulk of Wray; brother, Mitch (Julie) Paulk of McDonough; nephews, Hunter Stewart, James Paulk, Will Paulk; niece, Jenny Paulk of McDonough; grandmother, Doris Evans of Ambrose; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Harley “Pete” Evans; Mitch and Gertie Paulk.
Services were held at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 17 at the Wray Holiness Baptist Church with Rev. George Carroll Paulk, Rev. Steve Willingham and Rev. Jimmie Sayer officiating. Carolyn Wright, Chris Purvis and Faye Adams sang with Bonnie Musgrove as pianist.
Burial followed in the Griffin Cemetery.

Laura K. Harrell
Mrs. Laura K. Harrell, 72, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald on Saturday, July 16 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Ray Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Lax Cemetery, Irwin County.
Mrs. Harrell was born May 12, 1933 in Burkhart, OH, daughter of the late Leo Grover Kuhn and Eleanor Crum Kuhn. She lived in the community since 1969. Mrs. Harrell was a former employee of Allied Department Store and Holt’s Bakery. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Elk’s Lodge and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her six sons, Stephen Allan Caton of Pineview, Richard Dale Caton of Ocilla, Patrick Lee Caton of Ashburn, Keith Raymond Ashton of Fitzgerald, Gaines Junior “G.J.” Harrell of Ocilla and John Clifford Harrell of Fitzgerald; one daughter, Valerie Sue Peterson of Fitzgerald, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister and a brother, Mary Bowman and Bernard Kuhn, both of Zanesville, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Harrell and six brothers.

Lillian Barrs Boyd
Mrs. Lillian Barrs Boyd, 93, of Tifton died Friday, July 15, 2005 at Tift Regional Hospital.
Services were held at Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church on Sunday, July 17 at 2 p.m. with Elder Charles Tyson and Elder Herman Griffin officiating. Interment followed in Old Valley Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Earl Griffin, Wiley Griffin, Gene Chambers, Bobby Walker, Robert Tucker and Wyndall Marchant.
Mrs. Boyd was born June 1, 1912 in Irwin County, daughter of the late Littleton Edward and Florence Christmas Bryant. Moving from Irwin County, Mrs. Boyd had lived in Tifton for the past 45 years. She was a member of the Valley Grove Singers and was an American Red Cross and hospital Pink Lady volunteer. She was an active member of Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Voncile B. Sirmans of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Al and Melissa Sirmans of Fitzgerald; a great-granddaughter, Allison Sirmans of Fitzgerald; brother, Rev. Edward Bryant of Ocilla; two sisters, Leoda Alsobrook of Lenox and Louisa Griffin of Ocilla; two stepsons, Joseph Boyd and Lonnie Boyd; step-grandson Allen Boyd, all of Tifton. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Barrs and her husbands, Albert Barrs and Guy H. Boyd.

Harper C. Cato
Mr. Harper C. Cato, 87, of Eustis, FL died December 21, 2004 at his residence.
Memorial services were held at Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County on Monday, July 18 at 10 a.m.
Mr. Cato was born July 18, 1917 in Ocilla, son of the late Clay Tilman Cato and Bessie Harper Cato. He retired from the U. S. Air Force after more than 20 years of service, serving during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Cato of Eustis, FL and local relatives including Marty Strange of Ocilla and Robert and Patsy Cook of Fitzgerald.

Lillie T. Woodrum
Mrs. Lillie T. Woodrum, 96, of Ocilla died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Osceola Nursing Home.
Services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County on Friday, August 19 at 2 p.m., with Rev. John Gibbs officiating and eulogy by Marc Atkinson. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Music was provided by pianist, Ginny Paulk and Bethlehem Baptist Church choir.
Pallbearers were Greg Rowe, Marc Atkinson, Huey Rhodes, Capt. Ryan Rowe, Chris Rowe, David West, Ira Rowe and Marcellus Atkinson.
Mrs. Woodrum was born June 17, 1909 in Irwin County, daughter of the late W. M. “Bill” and Sarah Elizabeth Purvis Tucker. She was a homemaker and had lived in the Irwin community all of her life.
Mrs. Woodrum was a 1929 graduate of Ocilla High School and attended Valdosta State College. She was a homemaker and a former school teacher, having taught at Riverbend, Lax and Holt schools. She was also a former correspondent for The Ocilla Star.
Mrs. Woodrum was a life-long member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and Director, Church Secretary and Treasurer. She was a former member and director of the WMU, a former member of the Irwin County Home Economic Club, where she was named Woman of the Year in 1970. She was also an avid quilter.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Nelle and Ira Rowe of Albany and Dianne and Marcellus Atkinson of Hampton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Woodrum; a daughter, Lillian Rhodes; a son, Don Woodrum; three brothers and two sisters.
