Nelle Grace Burden
Mrs. Nelle Grace Burden, 76, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 13 at the Church Of The Nazarene in Fitzgerald, with Rev. James Hubbard and Rev. Dan Hayes officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Music was provided by organist Frances Beck, pianist Dorothy Jean Fuller, soloist Mary Ann Garner, and Byron Mobley on harmonica.
Serving as pallbearers were Tommy Spivey, Jeff Lewis, Troy Fletcher, Jack Garner, Kyle Fuller, Bert Walker, Stevie Walker and Wayne Wynn. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ocilla High School Class of 1946.
Mrs. Burden was born January 28, 1930 in Osierfield to the late Willis D. and Nellie Walsh Lewis. A 1946 graduate of Ocilla High School, she lived in Ben Hill and Irwin counties most of her life.
Mrs. Burden was retired owner/operator of Burden’s Grocery, Tire Service & Used Cars in Osierfield and a former employee of People’s Bank, the Uh-Oh Outlet and the Life Care Center, all in Fitzgerald. She was a member of The Church Of The Nazarene.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews: Madie Denton, Wayne Lewis and Brenda McLemore, all of Osierfield and Tommy Lewis of Waycross; several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Horace Burden, son, Johnny Burden and three brothers.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn R. Moody
Carolyn R. Moody, 63, of Ocilla died Thursday, April 13, 2006 at her residence.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rebecca, with Rev. Danny Lovett officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were Dana West, Tim Moody, Dwayne Moody, Eric Edwards, Matthew Moody, Raymond Moody, Wallie Moody and Billy Joe Moody.
Mrs. Moody was born March 15, 1943 in Bartow, FL to the late James E. and Lillian Longsdorff Byrd. She lived in the community since 1977 from Bartow. Mrs. Moody was a former employee of H.R. Kaminsky & Sons and Y & W Sportswear.
A loving mother and grandmother, Mrs. Moody loved to fish and work in her flower garden.
She is survived by her husband: Curtis Junior Moody of Ocilla; daughter: Robin M. Hudson of Ocilla; sons: Ronnie E. Moody of Valdosta, Billy Joe Moody, Raymond Moody and Tim W. Moody, all of Ocilla, Dwayne Moody of Thomasville and Carlos Moody of Ocilla; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brothers: John A. Byrd of Bartow, FL and James E. Byrd, Jr. of Ocilla.
Mrs. Moody was preceded in death by two sisters.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sheena Eve Johnson
Sheena Eve Johnson, 20, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, April 15, 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19 at the Ocilla Church of God with the Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating.
Miss Johnson was born January 31, 1986 in Fitzgerald. She was a 2004 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She was a medical transcriber for Dr. Stan Sinclair in Douglas and was also attending nursing school at East Central Technical College, Douglas campus. She enjoyed making memory scrapbooks and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her parents: Tim and Dianna Sumner, Fitzgerald; sister: Lee Ann Thompson, Fitzgerald; maternal grandmother: Eva Thomas; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Patsy Sumner and Nancy Neal, all of Fitzgerald; uncles: John, Kevin and Randy Mack, all of Fitzgerald.
Paulk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Infant Jordan Lee Ferguson
Infant Jordan Lee Ferguson died Friday, April 7, 2006 at Tift Regional Medical Center, Tifton.
A graveside service was held Thursday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at the Ocilla City Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents: Tawanna P. Lampkins of Ocilla and Oscar Lee Ferguson, Jr. of Fitzgerald; grandparents: Connie Lampkins and Ronald Wynn of Ocilla, Darlene Coffee and Oscar Lee Ferguson, Sr. of Fitzgerald; great grandparents: Robert and Lucille Lampkins, Sr. and Lois Wynn and William Thomas of Ocilla, Haywood Lee Ferguson and Jonnie Mae Ferguson, Juanita Coffee and Wardell Coffee, all of Fitzgerald; five uncles: Latorick Wynn, Sr., Kevis Campbell, Ronald Wynn, Jr., Artes Bryant and Nate Inman; four aunts: Cawanna Lampkins, Nicole Coffee, Cassandra Ferguson and April Ferguson.
Taylor & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Annie Mae Dobbs
Mrs. Annie Mae Johnson Dobbs, 72, of Douglas, formerly of Ocilla, died Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Bibb County, Mrs. Dobbs had lived in the Ocilla area for many years. For the past few months she had been a resident of Shady Acres Convalescent Center of Douglas.
Mrs. Dobbs was the daughter of the late Nubern Johnson and the late Lillie Mae Graham Johnson, and the wife of the late William Harmon Dobbs. She was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Dobbs and Roy Dobbs.
A member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Dobbs was a retired CNA from the Home Health Care Services.
Survivors include two sons: Randy Dobbs and wife, Peggy of Willacoochee and Rudolph Dobbs of Douglas; one daughter: Ruth Maher of Ocilla; two sisters: Louise Thomas and Shirley Carter, both of Alma; two brothers: Franklin “Buck Shot” Johnson of Fort Meade, FL and Sammy Lee Johnson of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren: Miranda “Mandy” Maher, Charlotte Maher and Bubba Maher, all of Ocilla, Crystal Maher of Fitzgerald, Chad Dobbs of Statesboro and Ryan Dobbs of Willacoochee.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 6 at 4 p.m. at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. L.G. Aldridge officiating. Mr. Ralph Griffin presented a Eulogy. Interment followed in the Purvis Cemetery with Rev. George C. Paulk presenting the graveside closing prayer.
Special musical selections were presented by the combined choirs of Westwood Baptist Church and Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, accompanied by pianist Mrs. Bernie Evans.
Active pallbearers were Ralph Griffin, James DeBerry, Charlie Daniels, David Vickers, Keith Griffin and Brad Purvis. Honorary pallbearers were nurses, CNAs and staff of Shady Acres Convalescent Center.
Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Tucker Roberts
Mildred Tucker Roberts, 89, of Ocilla died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 6 at the Union Primitive Baptist Church, Lax with Elder Philip Smith officiating. Music was provided by pianist Betty McIntyre and congregational singing led by Elder T.R. Mobley. Interment followed at Brushy Creek Cemetery, Irwin County.
Serving as pallbearers were Lem Hattaway, Kenneth Pridgen, Elder Ed McIntyre and Howard Smith.
Mrs. Roberts was born May 22, 1916 in Irwin County to the late William M. ”Willie” and Miriam Jane McMillan Tucker. She had lived in the community most of her life. She was an LPN and a businesswoman. She received her nurses training from Ben Hill-Irwin Tech and worked as a nurse at Osceola Nursing Home and Irwin County Hospital. She was a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Lax.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her two daughters: Janice Roberts Rinebolt of Fernandina Beach, FL and Sue R. Crenshaw of Fitzgerald; five grandchildren; one sister: Bertie Parker of Clayton; and two brothers: C.L. Tucker of McRae and Donald Tucker of Cordele. She was preceded in death by her husband: R.C. Roberts; two sons: Lanny Roberts and Mickey Roberts; and one sister.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William Clinton (Bud) Ross
William Clinton (Bud) Ross, 95, of Ocilla died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church, Ocilla with Rev. James Curtis officiating. Music was provided by soloist Edna Watkins and the church choir. Interment followed in Ocilla Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bro. Sammie Battle, Deacon Robert Jackson and friends of the family. Honorary pallbearers were Deacon Daryl Phillips, Deacon Eric Payne, Deacon Leon King, Deacon Tommy Graham and Deacon Leroy Robertson.
Mr. Ross was born June 20, 1910 to the late Emma Hollis Ross and John Ross. He was educated in the Irwin County School System and in 1943, moved to New York where he resided until 2001. He retired from the maintenance department at City College of New York. He was a member of Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church in Ocilla.
Survivors include two daughters: Roxie Ross Davis and Willeene Ross; one granddaughter, Arlinda G. Murrell; two great grandsons: Eric Murrell (Michelle) of Ocilla and Gary Murrell (Courtney) of Statesboro; two great-great granddaughters: Ty’Asya and Jordan Murrell of Statesboro and special friend, Mrs. Sallie Mae Herring.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by 14 siblings.

Julian T. Rich
Julian T. Rich, 88, of Pitts died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 in Ashburn Health Care.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwin County. Rev. Ed Reeves and Rev. Wayne McCrimmon officiated; Billy Griffin shared the eulogy. Music was provided by Ann Martin, Judy Griffin and Sue Fletcher. Interment was in Big Creek Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Greg Ledford, Wayne Nutt, Larry Wallace, Marty Morris, Dean Fitzgerald, Christopher Rich and Edwin Nutt.
Mr. Rich was born February 25, 1918 in Houston County, AL to the late Henry T. Rich and Minnie Bradstead Rich. He was a retired metal worker with Tifton Aluminum Company and was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwinville.
Survivors include his wife: Wilma Ruth Rich of Pitts; sons: Jackie Rich of Niceville, FL and Lloyd Rich of Odum; brother: Don Rich of Lucedale, MS; sister: Louise Pendaruis of Mobile, AL; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Agnes Walker Davis
Mrs. Agnes Walker Davis, 96, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 29 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John K. Mobley officiating. Music was provided by pianist Sandy Woods and soloist Lee Massee. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Jay Davis, Lee Davis, Brett Davis and Jason Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Edwin Paul, H.J. Taylor, Allen Walker, John T. Sellars, John Calhoun, Varney Cauley and Herman Foster.
Mrs. Davis was born January 12, 1910 in Irwin County to the late Archie M. and Emma Dixon Walker. She was a homemaker and a farm wife and had lived in the community all of her life.
Mrs. Davis was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, the Benevolence Committee and a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, fishing and she was an avid baseball fan.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Latrelle and Carroll Kirkland of Fitzgerald; two grandchildren: Glenn and Howard Davis, both of Fitzgerald; six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and sister, Elsie Taylor of Fitzgerald.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Davis, son, H.T. “Smut” Davis, four brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, c/o Tim Woods, 188 Hoover Rd., Fitzgerald, GA 31750.

James T. ‘Jimmy’ Kilgore
James T. “Jimmy” Kilgore, 55, of Irwinville died Friday, March 31, 2006 at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 3 at Irwinville Baptist Church, Irwinville, with Rev. Stan Bowen and Rev. L.A. “Sonny” Pate officiating. Music was provided by pianist Patsy Spradlin and the Bernhardt Singers. Interment followed in Irwinville Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Roger Crenshaw, Gibbs Patrick, Stanley Tucker, Herman McIntyre, Lou Brinson, Bobby McLemore, Ralph Cobb, Robbie Tindall, Bobby Goodman, Larry Davis and Tommy Thibodeaux.
Mr. Kilgore was born August 6, 1950 in San Diego, CA to LaVerne T. Kilgore and the late James C. “Jim” Kilgore. He had lived in the community since 1981 coming from Charleston, S.C. He was a 1968 graduate of Garrett High School in Charleston, a 1970 graduate of Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Technical Education Center and worked as a mechanic while in Charleston.
He attended Valdosta State College in Valdosta and was retired machine shop instructor for East Central Technical College. He was a farmer and a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Bass Club. Mr. Kilgore was a member of the Dorchester-Waylon Baptist Church in Charleston, SC.
Mr. Kilgore is survived by his wife: Shirley Goodale Kilgore of Irwinville; one daughter and son-in-law: Brandy and Robbie Tindall of Roswell, and his mother: LaVerne T. Kilgore of Irwinville. He was preceded in death by his father: James C. “Jim” Kilgore.

Leether Peacock Hogan
Mrs. Leether Peacock Hogan, 79, of Forsyth died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Richard Jelley officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery, Irwinville.
The family will receive friends at Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Mrs. Hogan was born January 19, 1927 in Ben Hill County to the late A.C. and Mattie Rutherford Peacock. She had lived in Forsyth since 1956 from Irwinville. She was a retired dietician from Goodwill Nursing Home and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: James W., Jr. and Judi Hogan of Macon; daughter and son-in-law: Janice and Mark Potts of Forsyth; one grandson: Jason Hogan; three great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two sisters: Mavis Griffin of Newport News, VA and Illine Stanfill of Fitzgerald; one brother: Johnny Peacock of Macon; a sister-in-law: Virginia Hogan of Irwinville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Hogan, Sr. and a sister, Helen Wilcox.
Serving as pallbearers for the Wednesday, April 5 services for Mrs. Leether Peacock Hogan were Jason Hogan, Keith Hester, Henry Hunt, Ronny Griner, Lamar Giddens and Ken McCallum. Music was provided by organist Marty Smith and soloist Halle Potts.
Pallbearers for the Wednesday, April 5 services for Audrey Sutton Calhoun were Jack Eldridge, Daniel Musselwhite, Ronny Parrish, Edward Parrish, Robert Parrish and Tommy Calhoun. Music was provided by pianist Ann Martin and soloists Brenda Parrish and Mike Martin.

Audrey Sutton Calhoun
Audrey Sutton Calhoun, 65, of Irwin County, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 5 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne McCrimmon officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Calhoun was born August 28, 1940 in Irwin County to the late William Clifton and Pauline Parrish Sutton. She had lived in the community all of her life. She was a 1958 graduate of Irwin County High School and attended Ben Hill-Irwin Tech. She was retired secretary for Dorminy Brothers Land & Cattle Company and a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.
Mrs. Calhoun is survived by her two sons: Michael Anthony Howze of Wilmington Beach, NC and Emory Howze of Broxton; one step-son and daughter-in-law: Tom and Connie Calhoun of Irwin County; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law: Wiley T. and Betty Sutton of Irwinville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Calhoun.

Mildred T. Roberts
Mildred T. Roberts, 89, of Ocilla died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald has charge of the arrangements.

W.A. ‘Bill’ Owens
W.A. “Bill” Owens, 90, of Rebecca died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Tift Health Care in Tifton.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 18 at Big Creek Baptist Church, Irwin County, with Rev. Wayne McCrimmon and Rev. Jack Perrin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Music was provided by pianist Sue Fletcher, organist Ann Martin, soloist Perry Greer and Sue Fletcher and Ann Martin (duet).
Serving as pallbearers were David Busbin, Herman Owens, Jr., Michael Goodman, Daniel Owens, Shane Owens, Benji Owens, Kenneth Owens and Steve Goodman.
Mr. Owens was born April 16, 1915 in Turner County to the late James Daniel and Ella Lunsford Owens. He was a farmer, an avid fisherman and a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. He had lived in the community most of his life.
Mr. Owens is survived by his wife of 64 years: Gene P. Owens of Irwin County; 10 children and their spouses: Mildred and J.L. Goodman of Ocilla, Herman and Patricia Owens of Irwinville, Faye and Bill Busbin of Ocilla, Troy and Bernadette Owens of Irwin County, Nina and Carroll Whitley of Fitzgerald, Camilla Mancil of Mystic, Debbie and Larry Gurr of Douglas, Morris Owens of Ocilla, Albert Owens of Mystic and Betty and Henry O’Kelly of Commerce; 32 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Owens, one grandchild, one great grandchild, four brothers and five sisters.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
