Owen C. Mobley, Jr.
Owen C. Mobley, Jr., 51, of Vero Beach, FL died Friday, December 1, 2006 at his residence.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 9 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Irwin County with Elder Mickey Harris officiating.
Mr. Mobley was born March 15, 1955 in Fitzgerald to the late Owen C. and Florrie Moore Mobley. He lived in Florida for many years, graduating from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, and received his B.S. in Business from West Georgia College. Mr. Mobley was an operations and management consultant for the St. Lucie County Health Department and a former employee of the Health & Rehabilitation Service for the State of Florida.
Survivors include his wife: Elizabeth Paige Mobley of Vero Beach, FL; sisters: Darlene Mobley Moye of St. Simon’s Island and Stephanie Mobley Brush of Jupiter, FL along with three nieces.

Vivian ‘Jerry’ Deen
Vivian “Jerry” McMillan Deen, 77, of Willacoochee died Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 12 at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with Father Dan O’Connell officiating.
Ms. Deen was born May 7, 1929 in Irwin County. She was raised in Alapaha by her parents, Raiford and Rosa Gray Metts. She was a homemaker and an egg grader for Bowen-McCranie Farms. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Alapaha.
Ms. Deen is survived by her children: Jacob Boyd McMillan, II of Sparks, Vivian Tucker of Irwinville, Kitty Stone of Alapaha, Robbie McMillan of Alapaha, Sarah Jane Jackson of Alapaha and Ray McMillan of Waycross; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter and one grandchild.

Jayne Griffin Reeves
Jayne Griffin Reeves, 51, of Opelika, AL (formerly of Fitzgerald) died Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 12 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with remarks shared by Terri Lamb. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.
David Chason, David Oyola, Pastor Bill Holmes, Michael Chason, Sgt. Darion M. Brooks and Jacob Moos served as pallbearers.
Ms. Reeves was born March 22, 1955 in Fitzgerald to the late Benny Fred and Jewell Fletcher Griffin. She was a 1973 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, attended Valdosta State University and Ben Hill-Irwin Tech. She was an emergency medical technician and a respiratory therapist. She had made her home in Alabama for the past 25 years. She was a member of the Arp Baptist Church in Irwin County and attended the Believers Church in Opelika.
Ms. Reeves is survived by her children: Ben Reeves and Wyatt (Andrea) Reeves, all of Irwin County, Sgt. Brittney Reeves, U.S. Marine Corps, Camp Lejeune, NC and Brandi (David) Oyola of Opelika, AL; sister: Kris (Mike) Chason of Tifton; one grandson: Elisha Oyola and one granddaughter: Trinity Oyola.

Wallace Clifton Childs
Wallace Clifton Childs, 88, died Sunday, December 10, 2006 in Columbus.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 2 p..m. in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Thomasville, 221 North Broad Street, Thomasville.
Mr. Childs was born in Turner County to Wilbur Allen Childs, Sr. and Louisa Banks Childs on April 4, 1918. His brother, Wilbur Allen Childs, Jr. and his sister, Muriel Wash preceded him in death.
He attended Abraham Baldwin Junior College where he played basketball and baseball and he graduated from the University of Georgia with bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Mr. Childs served as a Navy pilot during World War II and he taught agriculture and coached basketball after the war ended. During his coaching career at Irwinville, Blackshear, Alma and Glennville, he compiled a record that earned him recognition from the Atlanta Tip-Off Club as one of Georgia’s most successful basketball coaches, membership in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and the nickname, Country.
He transferred into school administration at the conclusion of his coaching career and he worked in that capacity as principal of Atkinson County High School and Thomas County High School until his retirement. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Thomasville for many years, singing in the choir and serving as Deacon.
Mr. Childs was a member and leader of many civic and professional organizations, including the Association of Retired Teachers, the Lion’s Club and Golden K. He was a director emeritus of the Farmers & Merchants Bank of Thomasville.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Beall Childs; his son, Richard Allen Childs; his daughter-in-law, Mimi Pease Childs and his granddaughter, Louisa Banks Childs.

Funeral services for Vearlie Wiggins, who died Saturday, December 2 at Tift Regional Medical Center will be held Thursday, December 7 at 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond King officiating.

Jackie Llaquette Miller Lastinger, 60, of Ocilla died Saturday, December 2, 2006 in the Tift Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service was held Monday, December 4 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jimmy Sumner officiating.
Born on March 20, 1946 in Hahira, Ms. Lastinger was the daughter of the late Jack Stanley Miller and Annie Mae Phillips Miller. She was retired from Tift Regional Medical Center and enjoyed fishing and cooking.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Jay and Stacy Lastinger of Ocilla; a sister: Jill Turner of Augusta; three grandchildren: Laci, Emily and Jessie Lastinger, all of Ocilla and a special aunt: Valcar Hart of Tifton.

Lucy Bell Murray Martin, 86, of Ocilla died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Irwin County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Philips Baptist Church, Ocilla with the Rev. Tommy Washington officiating. Soloist was Julian L. Wilcox. Interment followed in Ocilla Cemetery.
Jimmy Wilcox, Jr., Julian Wilcox, Alex Wilcox, Jeremiah Pascal, Jr., Gregory Wilcox and Rodney B. Ford, II served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Martin was born November 11, 1920 to the late Samuel Lee and Hattie Murray. She was a member of Mathis Chapel Baptist Church. She was married to the late Wilson Martin and Jimmie Lee Wilcox.
Brothers and sisters who preceded her in death include George, John D., Milton James (MJ) Murray, Izola Presley, Della Williams, Odessa Johnson and Hattie Pearl Taylor. One son, Johnny Clyde Wilcox also preceded her in death.

Annette M. Bauerband
Annette M. Bauerband, 106, of Jefferson died Tuesday, November 28, 2006 following a brief illness.
Mrs. Bauerband was born in New York City and moved to Rahway, N.J. as a child. When she retired from Exxon Mobile Corp. in 1961, she moved to Boynton Beach, FL where she was a member of St Mary’s Episcopal Church. She loved traveling, bridge and needlework.
She and her husband of 79 years moved from Boynton Beach to Jefferson six years ago and lived at Bentley Assisted Living. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Bauerband, Sr. and her son, Robert L. Bauerband, Jr.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Jean G. Bauerband, Jefferson; a daughter-in-law, Beverly H. Bauerband, Boynton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Robert L. Bauerband III, Boynton Beach, Carol Barnhart, Harrisburg, NC, Dr. James Bauerband, Gainesville, Bebe Rodriguez, Boynton Beach and seven great-grandchildren.

Reatha Jane Parrish Rawlins
Reatha Jane Parrish Rawlins, 83, of Barnesville died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at her residence.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 9 at 11 a.m. at West Side Church of Christ in Griffin. Interment will be private.
A native of Irwin County, Mrs. Rawlins had made her home in Barnesville for a number of years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. John William Parrish and the late Mrs. Susan Jane Paulk Parrish.
Mrs. Rawlins was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Griffin. After retirement from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, she, along with Gerald, her husband of 33 years, devoted her life in voluntary service to Georgia Outreach, Habitat for Humanity and Sojourners. As missionaries traveling every state in the country and overseas, the couple touched many lives and hearts while sharing their faith and love for Christ.
Mrs. Rawlins was a member of the Scarlett Lassies Red Hat Society, Barnesville. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband: Gerald Williams Rawlins of Barnesville; two daughters: Cynthia B. “Cindy” (Pete) Weber of Loganville and Janice (Bill) Atchison of Marietta; two sons: Gordon (Cynthia) Buchanan of Augusta and Alan Rawlins of Macon; one brother: Harold Parrish of Irwinville; two sisters: Vera Holston of Albany and Carolyn Hester of Jackson; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Annette Smith, 69, of Fitzgerald died Monday, December 4, 2006 at Shady Acres Nursing Home in Douglas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 6 at Eastside Holiness Baptist Church, Fitzgerald with the Rev. Edsel Young officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Ms. Smith was born June 2, 1937 in Telfair County to the late William Roberson and the late Georgia Ann Hart Roberson Wilkerson. She lived in the community all of her life and was a former employee of Fitzgerald Underwear and The Harris House. Ms. Smith attended Eastside Holiness Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Billie Jean and Stanford Day of Broxton and Mary Jo and Ted Jinright of Irwin County; son: Harris Smith of Fitzgerald; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers: John Thomas Roberson of Glenwood and William Roberson, Jr. of Douglasville; sister: Evelyn Roberson of Rhine along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lynn Smith, two brothers and two sisters.

Eddie Young
Eddie Young, 44, of Fitzgerald died Monday, December 4, 2006 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 6 at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church, Ben Hill County with the Rev. Kenneth Mathews and the Rev. Kevin Vickers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Young was born January 3, 1962 in Richmond County, Georgia. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life and was a former employee of Lowell Packing Company and Tolleson Lumber Company. Mr. Young attended New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church.
Eric Cook
Eric Cook, 19, of Ocilla died Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 24 at the Irwin County High School Gym with the Rev. John Gibbs Jr. and the Rev. Jim Osborn officiating. Eulogy was given by Hillary Hamby. Music was provided by soloist Kenny Croft and Wendy Dowd on keyboard. Interment followed in Bethlehem Cemetery, Irwin County.
Tripp Adkinson, Zack Adkinson, David Adkinson, Michael Bullock, Rodney Bullock, Clint Paulk, Billy Paulk, Josh McDuffie, Jim McDuffie, Will Giddens, Steven Giddens, Greg Giddens, Jamie Parrish and Wallie Parrish served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Irwin County High School Class of 2005.
Eric was born November 25, 1986 in Fitzgerald. He lived all his life in Irwin County, graduating from Irwin County High School in 2005.
A Telecommunications student at East Central Technical College, Eric was a former employee of Dill’s Ace Hardware, Sherwin-Williams and Cook’s Home Repair. He was a member of Ocilla United Methodist Church and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Eric was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Hunters Creek Hunting Club. He was a loving and giving person, even in death by being an organ donor.
He is survived by his parents: Roger and Lisa Giddens Cook of Ocilla; sister: Morgan Cook of Murfreesboro, TN; maternal grandmother: Frances Bradford of Ocilla; paternal grandmother: Essie Cook of Fitzgerald; great aunt: Hazel Green of Gray; many relatives and friends. Eric was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Earl Cook, Vernon Giddens and Bill Bradford.
Memorials may be made to the Ocilla United Methodist Church Youth Ministry or to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Youth Ministry.

Flora Elizabeth Steed Paulk McAloon
Flora Elizabeth Steed Paulk McAloon, 94, of Decatur died Monday, November 20, 2006 at the VistaCare Hospice in Wesley Woods of Emory University.
The Rev. J. Hoffman Harris, Senior Minister Emeritus of Briarlake Baptist Church, Decatur, will officiate at a graveside service, Monday, December 4, 2 p.m. in the Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Ocilla.
Mrs. McAloon was born January 15, 1912 in Ocilla. For many years she worked as legal secretary to the State of Georgia’s Assistant Attorney General and then as administrative secretary to the Dean of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. After retiring in 1974 she continued to be very active with volunteer work and traveling.
A founder of Briarlake Baptist Church in 1958, Mrs. McAloon served as superintendent of the Junior Sunday School Department and taught a class for young married ladies. She also was a founder of the Oak Grove AARP Chapter, serving as vice president for three terms, writing and presenting the Chapter’s ten-year history, with others launching DeKalb County’s Life Enrichment Services and serving as a director.
Mrs. McAloon was well known for her elegance, charm, beauty, intelligence and humor, qualities she radiated even in her last days.
She was preceded in death by husbands: Marvin W. Paulk, James A. Moore and Ernest A. McAloon; daughter: Elizabeth Rebecca Paulk Wells; grandchildren: Richard D. and Dena P. Wells and siblings: Hazel Steed, Jane Steed James and Basil Steed.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-laws: M. Donovan and Keturah W. Paulk of Highlands, NC; Ira H. and Janet T. Paulk of Decatur and son-in law: William D. Wells of Tucker; grandchildren: Melanie S., David C., Daniel S., Kevin D., Philip W., Michael S. and Julie M. (Jules) Paulk, Elizabeth Rebecca (Becky) Wells Mericle, Anne Neal Cranz, “J” Neal, III and families, including 13 great-grandchildren and siblings: Paschal H. Hazel Sellers Cook
Hazel Sellers Cook, 83, of Fitzgerald died Friday morning, November 24, 2006 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 27 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Charlie Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Michael West, Rodney Griner, Jack Weeks, Phillip Chaney, Colton Chaney and John Rycroft served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Cook was born September 16, 1923 in Andalusia, AL to the late John and Martha Barnes Sellers, the last child born of 11 siblings. She was a former employee of Fitzgerald Underwear and Irwin Manufacturing, a former nurses’ aide at Life Care Center and also sat with the elderly. She was a member of the former Callie Garbutt Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cook is survived by three sons and two daughters and their spouses: Eugene and Sue Barnes of Marianna, FL, John and Kathy Barnes of Panama City, FL, Hazel and James Dean, Shellia and Ron Flesher and Albert and Laura Cook, all of Fitzgerald; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Albert Cook, a great-great-grandson, Hunter Lane Scarbary and 10 brothers and sisters.
