Graveside services for Mrs. Anne Leila Bennett, 91, of Thomson Road, Washington, were held Wednesday, November 3, 1999, at 1 p.m., in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, with Rev. Bob Murphy and Rev. Chip Wilson officiating. She died November 1, at her home.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Rochelle, Wilcox County, and was the daughter of the late Thomas C. Wells and the late Annie Weeks Wells. She had lived most of her life in Wilkes County and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Washington. She was a former substitute teacher in the Wilkes County School System, a former Club Scout and Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband, Asa Monroe Bennett of Washington; a son, Asa William (Bill) Bennett, Washington; two daughters, Mary Ann Hawkins, Morrow, and Catherine Joyce Crouch, Amherst, Mass.; a sister, Lorena Morgan, Vienna; five grandchildren; ad one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers included Andrew Crouch, John Robert Sessions, David Ricker, Tom Sessions, Tommy Hawkins, and Ed Morgan III.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington First United Methodist Church, 100 W. Liberty St., Washington 30673; or to the American Cancer Society.

Elisa Samuel
Funeral services for Elisa Samuel, 45, of Whitehall Street, Washington, were held October 28, 1999, at the Church of the Mediator, Washington, with Rev. John Via officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington. She died Saturday, October 23.
Mrs. Samuel was born in Panama City, Fla., and was the daughter of Muriel Nesfield and the late Felix Lloyd. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Mediator.
Survivors in addition to her mother include two sons, Duane Samuel and Daenzel Samuel; two daughters, Kita Samuel and Kaylia Samuel; and four brothers, Felix Lloyd Jr., Alejandro Lloyd, Rafael Lloyd, and Dr. Desmend Smith.

Lutitia McLendon
Funeral services for Mrs. Lutitia McLendon, 69, of Bradford Road, Washington, were held Sunday, October 31, 1999, at the Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Washington, with Rev. Ervin Norman officiating. Burial was in Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. She died October 28.
Mrs. McLendon was a native of Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Willie T. Williams and the late Elnora Williams. She was a retired textile inspector and a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Allen McLendon; a son, Rev. Lamar McLendon of Washington; a daughter, Jennifer Denise Jay; four sisters, Harriet Starks, Augusta, Elvin Colbert, Harrisburg, PA, Mary Williams, Washington, and Myrtice Gresham, Lithonia; seven brothers, Jerry Williams, Atlanta, Isaac, Ollie and Willie L. Williams, Harrisburg, PA, Bennie, Hiawatha and Joseph Williams, all of Washington; and a grandchild, Courtney Alexis Jay.

Leita Millar Posey
Graveside services for Mrs. Leita Millar Posey, 85, of 1840 Pisgah Rd., North Augusta, were held Wednesday, November 3, 1999, in Pineview Memorial Gardens with Dr. Michael L. Andrews officiating. She died October 30.
Mrs. Posey was a native of Houlton, Maine, and had made her home in North Augusta for the past 36 years. She was a member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church, the Golden Glo Chapter 76 of the Order of the Eastern Star, former State of Maine Grand Representative, a charter member, past matron and patron District 9, a life member and an Order of the Eastern Star member for more than 50 years.
Survivors include three sons, Jon Millar Posey, North Augusta, Albert E. Posey, Lake Ridge, Va., and Richard E. Posey, Lake Elsinore, Calif; a brother, John Albert Millar, Houlton, Maine; and two grandchildren.

George Pierce Drinkard
Graveside services for George Pierce Drinkard, 92, of Sharon Road, Washington, were held Sunday, October 24, 1999, at 3 p.m., in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, with Rev. Arthur Gunn and Rev. Sam Miller officiating. He died October 22 at Wilkes Health Care Center, Washington.
Mr. Drinkard was a native of Taliaferro County and had lived most of his life in Wilkes County. He was the son of the late James T. Drinkard and the late Lelia Frances Moore Drinkard. He was a retired truck driver and farmer and a member of the Raytown Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nannie Lizzie Gunn Drinkard of Washington; a son, Gerald Drinkard, Washington; three granddaughters, Debbie Reed, Lincolnton, and Dean Sisson and Nancy McKellar, Washington; a brother, Harold Drinkard, Washington; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Claude McKellar, Ken Reed, Mike Sisson, Chris Echols, Kenneth Reed, and Chris Hucke.

Hattie Mae Ector
Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Mae Ector, 78, of Linesville Rd., Rayle, were held Saturday, October 23, 1999, at 3 p.m., at the Lyonsville Baptist Church, Rayle, with Rev. B.Z. Daniels officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died Friday, October 15.
Mrs. Ector was born in Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Moses Welborn and the late Betty J. Welborn. She was a member of the Lyonsville Baptist Church where she served on the Mother Board, was president of the Usher Board, a member of the choir, and superintendent of the Sunday School. She was the widow of Elbert Ector.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Graves and Hattye D. Ector; four sons, Roger Welborn, Willie Welborn, Elbert Ector Jr., and Ronnie Thomas; two sisters, Mable Hill and Lillian Landers; a brother, Samuel Welborn; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

John Henry Sturgis
Funeral services for John Henry Sturgis, 79, of New Hope Church Road, Washington, were held Saturday, October 23, 1999, at 2 p.m., at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church with Rev. Roy D. Andrews officiating. Burial was in New Hope Church Cemetery, Washington. He died October 19.
Mr. Sturgis was a native of Lincoln County, and was the son of the late Adam and Lessie Stokes Sturgis. He worked in the logging business and was a member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mamie C. Sturgis; two sons, William John Sturgis, Washington, and Leroy Sturgis, Atlanta; three daughters, Lessie Mae Hampton, Athens, Donna Butler and Lillie R. Sturgis, Washington; two sisters, Louise Randall and Carrie Sturgis, Washington; a brother, Charlie Sturgis, Washington; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Anna Ruth Guin
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Ruth Guin, 73, of Hendry Drive, Washington, were held Saturday, October 23, 1999, at the Fishing Creek Baptist Church, Tignall, with Rev. Roy Cates and Rev. Ficklen Guin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died Wednesday, October 20, in Wills Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Guin was born in West Virginia and was the widow of Charles A. Guin. She had retired from Royal Manufacturing Co., Washington, and was a member of the Fishing Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Richard A. Guin, Washington, and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Addison Hallford, Dwayne Armour, Bobby McCarty, Oliver Gill, Jesse Moore, and Terry Guin.
