Elizabeth (Betty) L. Hopkins Clark
Graveside services for Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) L. Hopkins Clark, 80, of Marietta, formerly of Washington, were held Tuesday, August 1, 2000, at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, with Rev. Charles Cook officiating. She died Sunday, July 30, at Kennestone Hospital, Marietta.
Mrs. Clark was a native of Macon and lived in Washington for 48 years. She had lived in Marietta for the past six years. She was the daughter of the late Charles Greenwood Little and the late Willie Lynch Little and was the widow of Hugh Dorsey Hopkins and Walter N. Clark Jr., both of Wilkes County. She was a member of the Washington Presbyterian Church and had retired as payroll clerk at Almar Manufacturing Co. in Washington. She was a past treasurer of the Wilkes County Association for Retarded Citizens; an American Cancer Society Volunteer; and had taught Sunday School at the Washington First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charles B. Hopkins, Marietta, and Hugh D. Hopkins, Alpharetta; a daughter, Carolyn Hopkins Kelly, Acworth; a step-daughter, Evelyn Clark Waters, Orangeburg, S.C.; two stepsons, Eugene Clark, Spartanburg, S.C., and David Clark, Washington; a sister, Peggy L. Tanner, Decatur; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Christopher Kelly, John V. Waters III, Johnny Little, Terry Clark, Howard L. Tanner Jr., and Walter E. Clark.

William Frank Couch
Funeral services for William Frank Couch, 90, of Madison were held Tuesday, August 1, 2000, at Hopkins Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Autry officiating. Burial was in New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Cadley. He died July 29 at the Madison Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Couch was a native of Jackson County, Tennessee, and was the son of the late James and Gertrude Couch. He was a former resident of Wilkes County and had retired from Burt Lumber Company. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. His wife was the late Hazel Couch.
Survivors include a brother, Jim Winfred Couch, Conyers; a sister, Hazel Knight, Ypsilanti, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included Kevin Perry, John McGinty, Stewart Anderson, Raymond McGinty, Mark Eagle, and Dean Couch.
Honorary pallbearers included Roy Ruark, John Dee McGinty, John Couch, Billy Autry, and Jake Jenkins.

Colonia Jackson
Funeral services for Mrs. Colonia Jackson, 94, were held Saturday, August 5, 2000, at 2 p.m., at New Springhill Baptist Church, Philomath, with Rev. Lamar Davenport officiating. She died Sunday, July 30.
She was a member of the New Springhill Baptist Church and was the widow of Earnest Jackson.
Survivors include a son, Guy Frank Jackson, Chattanooga, TN; two daughters, Mattie P. Cullum and Dorothy Ball, both of Philomath; two daughters-in-law, Sarah Lena Jackson, Chattanooga, TN, and Frankie Mae Jackson, Union Point; 20 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.

Annie Katherine Blackmon Butler
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Katherine Blackmon Butler, 84, of Powell Road, Augusta, were held Friday, August 4, 2000, at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel at 11 a.m., with Dr. J. Andrew Menger officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park. She died Wednesday, August 2, at Windemere Health Center.
Mrs. Butler was a native of Wilkes County and had lived most of her life in the Augusta area. She was the widow of Ellis Raymond Butler, and the daughter of the late William Erise Blackmon and the late Annie Rousey Blackmon. She retired from the Richmond County Board of Education as a school bus driver and had also worked at Royal Manufacturing Co. in Washington during World War II. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for 45 years.
Survivors include a son, Larry Raymond Butler, Martinez; two daughters, Dr. Janice Ilene Turner, Augusta, and Joyce Amelia Wood, Aiken, S.C.; two sisters, Mary Elvera “Tommie” Blackmon Bradford, Brawley, CA, and Sybil Inez Ivey, Lincolnton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was a sister of the late Thomas Blackmon and Sydney Gartrell Blackmon.
Pallbearers included Thomas Elton Blackmon, William Milton Blackmon, Clarence Alan Ivey, Robert Lewis Ivey, Sydney Gartrell Blackmon Jr., and William Freeman.
David T. Johnson
Funeral services for David T. Johnson, 69, of Azalea Drive, Warrenton, were held Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at 3 p.m., at the Johnson United Methodist Church, Warrenton, with Rev. Jim McAlister officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. He died Sunday, August 6, in the University Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Warren County and had retired as a conductor for the CSX Railroad. He was a member of the Johnson United Methodist Church, Franklin Lodge No. 11, a Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason, a member of Alce Shrine Temple and the Thomson Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ponda T. Johnson of Warrenton; a son, Shawn Johnson; and two brothers, Wilbur C. Johnson and W. Larry Johnson, both of Warrenton.
Pallbearers included James Raley, Joe Kimbrough, Moses Griswell, Carlton Norris, Hal Wheeler, and Terry Johnson.
Masons served as honorary pallbearers.

Lois Lunceford
Funeral services for Miss Lois Lunceford, 98, of Hospital Drive, Washington, were held Friday, September 15, 2000, at Hopkins Funeral Home, Washington, with Rev. Allen Danner officiating. Burial was in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Rayle. She died Tuesday, September 12, at Wilkes Health Care Center, Washington.
Miss Lunceford was a native and lifelong resident of Wilkes County. She was a retired dry goods clerk and was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, Rayle.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Chris Lane, Gary Boettchew, Howard Stevens, and James Moore.

Doris Couch Ward Echols
Graveside services for Mrs. Doris Couch Ward Echols, 95, of Barco, N.C., will be held at Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery, Tignall, at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 21, 2000, with Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. She died September 15 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City, N.C.
Mrs. Echols was born in Winder, Ga., and was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was the daughter of the late Ola Lee Couch and James Glenn Nash and was the widow of Edward Mitchell Echols.
Survivors include a son, Robert Ward, Camden, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Smalley Lunceford
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Smalley Lunceford, 84, of Lincolnton were held Wednesday, September 20, 2000, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Lincolnton, with Rev. David Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died Sunday, September 17, at Wilkes Health Care Center, Washington.
Mrs. Lunceford was a native and lifelong resident of Lincoln County. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late William Michael Smalley and the late Lilly Mae Tyler Smalley.
Survivors include her husband, John W. Lunceford, Lincolnton; two daughters, Mary Carol Lunceford, Augusta, and Jane L. Gnann, Springfield; a sister, Pierce S. Justice, Washington; and two grandchildren, John Gnann and Sidney Gnann.

Mr. Cullars was the son of the late Doc Cullars and the late Janie Cullars.

Maude Wideman Dallas
Graveside services for Mrs. Maude Wideman Dallas, 75, of Kings Way, Lincolnton, were held Tuesday, September 19, 2000, at Lincolnton City Cemetery with Rev. Jim Martin officiating. She died Sunday, September 17, at her residence.
Mrs. Dallas was a native of McCormick County, S.C., and had retired from Milliken Mill. She was a member of the McCormick United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Wideman and the late Selma Wideman.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Elaine Dallas and Joan Dallas Smith of Lincolnton, and Ann Dallas Dyson, Washington; two brothers, Thomas Wideman and Mason Wideman of McCormick; a sister, Mattie Sears, Commerce; seven grandchildren, Amanda Dyson and Jacob Dyson of Washington, Jennifer Smith, Melissa Smith, Michael Smith, Bridgette Smith, and Joshua Bessinger; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Smith.

William James (Jimmy) Adams Jr.
Funeral services for William James (Jimmy) Adams Jr., 65, of Atlanta were held August 31, 2000, at Wieuca Road Baptist Church in Atlanta with Dr. Jim King officiating. He died August 28.
Mr. Adams was the son of Mrs. Leona Smith Adams of Atlanta, formerly of Washington, and the late William James Adams. He was a native of Tignall and had worked for the Bank of America (formerly the Citizens and Southern National Bank) for 38 years, retiring as a vice-president. He was an active member of the Wieuca Road Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his mother include a daughter, Renee Adams, Atlanta; a son, William J. Adams, Atlanta; a sister, Carolyn Sargent, Lexington, S.C.; and four brothers, Bobby Adams, Greenville, S.C., David Adams, New York, Dick Adams and Walter Adams, Atlanta.
Mildred Darracott Barnett
Graveside services for Mrs. Mildred Darracott Barnett, 73, of Spring Street, Washington, were held Tuesday, October 17, 2000, at 5 p.m., in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, with Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr. officiating. She died Sunday, October 15, at her home.
Mrs. Barnett was a lifelong resident of Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Frank W. Darracott and the late Sally Blakey Darracott. Her husband was the late Joe Carswell Barnett. She was a retired business owner, having founded Washington Drapery Co. in 1964; Barnett and Barnett Manufacturing Co. in 1975; and Washington Footwear in 1978. She served as president of the Washington-Wilkes Country Club for three consecutive terms, 1977-1980. She was a member of the Washington City Council from 1981 to 1985 and from 1990 to 1997. She had served on the board of directors of the Farmers and Merchants Bank since 1983 and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Washington.
Survivors include three sons, Joe C. Barnett Jr., Danny Barnett, and Jimmy Barnett, all of Washington; a sister, Katie D. Dyar, Washington; seven grandchildren, Bryan Barnett, Ash Barnett, Ames Barnett, Abby Barnett, Brad Barnett, Jamie Barnett, and Meghan Barnett, all of Washington; and one great-grandchild, Savannah Barnett.

Harold Metz Echols Jr.
Funeral services for Harold Metz Echols Jr., 70, of Lexington Road, Rayle, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2000, at Sardis Baptist Church, Rayle, with Rev. Joe Hethcoat and Rev. Donald Berry officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington.
Mr. Echols was born in Elberton and was the son of the late Harold Metz Echols and the late Berda Smith Echols. He was a retired pipefitter foreman for Climate Engineering in Athens, and was a former Wilkes County Roads Department employee. He was a member of the Wilkes County AA, Auxiliary member of the Retired Postmasters Association, and was a Mason. He had lived in Rayle for the last 30 years and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Bonner Echols of Rayle; two sons, Gary Echols, Iola, TX, and Tim Echols, Dayton, TX; a daughter, Metzie Echols Sims, Dayton, TX; a brother, Norman Echols, Rayle; two stepsons, Johnny Adams, Athens, and William Remsen Jr., Lincolnton; and three grandchildren, Matthew Echols and Tracy Lee Echols, Dayton, TX, and Delaney Remsen, Lincolnton.
Pallbearers included Arnold Adams, Jack Armour, Jason Echols, Norman Echols, Norman Echols Jr., Shane Echols, Tim Hayes and David Randall.

Patricia Darden Pixley
Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia Darden Pixley, 62, of Pine Lane, Washington, will be held Friday, October 20, 2000, at 2 p.m., at the Washington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charlie Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Washington-Wilkes Memorial Garden. She died Tuesday, October 17, in Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.
Mrs. Pixley was a native of Taliaferro County and the daughter of the late Bernard R. Darden and the late Mary Poole Darden of Sharon. She was a retired businesswoman, having been a partner with her husband in Washington Dry Cleaners and other endeavors. She was a member of the Washington Presbyterian Church where she was moderator of the Women of the Church, treasurer of her Sunday School Class, and an elder. She was a member of the Day-Evening Bridge Club.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Pixley of Washington; two sons, James W. Pixley Jr., Atlanta, and Jeffery Scott Pixley, and his wife Karen of McDonough; a brother, George B. Darden, Lawrenceville; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Phillips, Duluth.
Pallbearers include Emory Strother, Jerry Stover, Harris Blackmon, Barry Thompson, Larry Gillespie, and Dexter Harris.
The family will receive friends at the residence and at Hopkins Funeral Home Thursday evening, October 26, from 7 to 9 p.m.
