Bernice Eulene Dunlap
Bernice Eulene Dunlap, age 82, of Colquitt passed away Sept. 4, 2003, at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. at Eldorendo Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Eldorendo Baptist Church Cemetery. The Officiating Minister was Rev. Tommy Long.
Pallbearers were Michael Widner, Vince Widner, Keith Fitzgerald, Wesley Faircloth, Daryl Dunlap, and Wayne Chambless.
Ms. Dunlap was born in Miller County, on Sept. 18, 1920. Ms. Dunlap was retired from Jack Winters in Bainbridge. She was a member of Eldorendo Baptist Church.
Ms. Dunlap leaves behind her husband, Grover Dunlap of Colquitt; 2 daughters & Sons-in-Law, Linda & Irving Widner of Colquitt and Lydia & Ronnie Faircloth of Colquitt; 2 Sons, Bill Dunlap of Colquitt and Rodney & Daughter in law Theresa Dunlap of Colquitt; 2 Brothers, U.S. Chambless of Colquitt and Nelson Chambless of Colquitt; one Sister, Dorothy Haire of Colquitt; 12 Grandchildren, Vince Widner, Michael Widner, Kirk Widner, Wesley Faircloth, Tanya Fitzgerald, Sharon, Michelle, Terri, Nichole, Theresa Montalvo, Danna Robinson, and Shawn Weaver; 19 Great-Grandchildren.

LAVERNE POPPELL
Laverne Poppell, age 68, of Whigham died Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Mr. Poppell was born July 16, 1935 in Madison County, FL. She was a member of Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Whigham. He was a farmer and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Harrell, Bro. Steve Poppell, and Bro. Carl Harrell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lawrence McElvy, Durwood McElvy, Jerry Baggett, Bobby Joe Knight, Spencer Duncan, and Archie Duncan.
Honorary pallbearers were men of the church, Robert Newsome, Tommy Perkins, Wendel Larkin, Stanley Brock, and Dewey Brock.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Louise Whigham Poppell; one son, Dennis Poppell, Whigham; two daughters, Gail Miller, Tallahassee, FL, Rhonda Poppell, Whigham; one brother, Gene Poppell, Whigham; two sisters, Eloise Perkins, Whigham, Shirley Sangster, Unadilla; and three grandchildren.

YVONNE BLALOCK
Yvonne Blalock, 52, of Colquitt, died August 30, 2003 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Ms. Blalock was born on February 17, 1951 in Clay County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eldorendo Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 1, 2003 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on September 2, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Eldorendo Baptist Church. Interment followed at New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines. Pallbearers were Billy Moncrief, Hayward Jordan, Brady Jordan, Michael Causey, Larry McKay, and James Campbell.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Blalock of Colquitt, one daughter, Ivy and son in law Woody Blalock of Leesburg, two sisters, Ellen Jordan of Sylvester and Joy Moncrief of Ft. Gaines, mother and father in law, Porter and Ruth Blalock of Ft. Gaines, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Holly Blalock.

LURA SPOONER ROBERTS WHITE
Lura Spooner Roberts White, 86, of Donalsonville, died on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.
Ms. White was born in Seminole County on October 29, 1916. She married Reuben S. Roberts in 1939. Ms. Roberts was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville where she was active in the Dorcas Sunday School Class and a member of the Mature Adults. She was also a member of the Bainbridge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Pineview Community Club. Ms. White enjoyed being part of the 'Meals on Wheels' program, the Jubilees, and the Hand and Foot Club.
Funeral services were held on September 1, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville with Rev. Tommy Dobbins and Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. The family received friends in the church following the service. Pallbearers were Ronnie McNease, John Mosley, Wade Spooner, Mark Hanna, Luke Spooner, Randy Spooner, Tommy Spooner, and Walter Spooner. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and the Jubilees.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Reuben S. Roberts Jr. and wife Deborah of Hawkinsville, two daughters, Sheila R. Cagle and husband Melvin of Bainbridge and Louisa McNease of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, five brothers, Joe Spooner, Luther Spooner and Billy Spooner all of Donalsonville, Roger Spooner of Iron City, and Cecil Spooner of Stone Mountain, 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Reuben Roberts Sr. and her second husband Herman Darby White in 1996. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
GRACE MARTIN SULLIVAN
We regret to announce the passing of Grace Martin Sullivan, age 87, of Salt Springs, FL formerly of Donalsonville, who passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2003 in Florida.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville with Rev. Luther Hastey and Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. Visitation will be held Friday at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home In Donalsonville from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Mrs. Sullivan was born in Ozark, AL on March 11, 1916 to the late Leon William and Annie C. Hollingsworth Martin. She was a retired Budget Analyst for the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL.
She is survived by her husband, Synix E. Sullivan of Salt Springs, FL; one son, David E. Gray of Armidale, Australia; step-son, Richard Sullivan of Franklin, N.C.; two sister, Betty Underwood of Lake City, FL and Jean Rushing of Donalsonville. RABON MCLENDON
Rabon McLendon, 92, of Colquitt, died on September 9, 2003 at Miller County Hospital.
Mr. McLendon was born on January 4, 1911 in Miller County. He attended New Salem Freewill Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. Mr. McLendon served on the Miller County Board of Education from 1964 until 1972.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers were Warren McLendon, Clarence McLendon, Jeff Sheilds, Trae Fletcher, Buddy Lowe, Ansley Johnson, Bille Abare, and Kent Richardson.
Survivors include three daughters and son-in-laws, Gail and Martin Evans, Allie Mae and David Richardson, and Beverly and Bobby Richardson all of Colquitt, three sons and daughter-in-laws, Emory and Phyllis Anne McLendon of Folkston, William McLendon of Colquitt, Jerry and Lisa McLendon of Bainbridge, two brothers, Cecil McLendon and Talmadge McLendon both of Colquitt, 11 grandchildren, Sherri McLendon, Sabrina Abare, Warren McLendon, Clarence McLendon, Boyd Evans, Amy Shields, Fran Fletcher, Patti Lowe, Kimberly Johnson, Christy McLendon, Alex McLendon, and five great grandchildren, Emma Evans, Aidan Evans, Lexi Shields, Jeff Shields, Blake Lowe, and Will Abare.

MILLIE ANN BENTON
Funeral service were held for Mrs. Millie Ann Benton on Friday, September 19, 2003 at 2.00 p.m. at White Pond Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Kyles officiating. The place if internment is Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Colquitt.
Mrs. Millie Ann Benton was born in Miller County to Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Callie Henderson on August 18, 1936.
She attended Griggs School in Miller County. Having to work, she was unable to finish. She was raised in a Christian home by loving parents who taught her to love God, home, and the country.
She was the wife of the late Jacob Benton and loving mother to the late George Benton.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: One son: Jacob Benton, Jr. of Atlanta; six grandchildren: Cathy Benton of Colquitt, Steven Benton, Jacob Benton III, Eric Benton, Savannah Benton, and Christopher Benton all of Atlanta. She was one of 19 children in which nine preceded in death. Five sisters: Ester Lee Holmes of Donalsonville, Golden Griffin of Dekota City, NE, Allie Mae Troop, Edel Henderson and Climmiedel Henderson all of Tallahassee, FL. Four brothers: Clifton Henderson of Sioux City, IA, Jessie Henderson of Miami, FL, Milton and Lester Henderson both of Tallahassee, FL. She also leaves behind to cherish her loving memories, 61 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and family.
Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Millie Ann's grandsons. Pallbearers are the friends of Mrs. Millie Ann's grandsons.

VIVIAN BARBER
Mrs. Vivian Barber, age 78, of Donalsonville, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at Donalsonville Hospital.
Mrs. Barber was born July 16, 1925 in Seminole County to the late Oscar and Ollie Mae Shores Barber. She was a lunchroom worker for several years at FDR. She was of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services were held at Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, September 19 with the Rev. Luther Hastey officiating.
Survivors include one sister, Lottie Barber, Donalsonville; and several nieces and nephews. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
EARL (TOBY) RUFUS CARTER
Earl (Toby) Rufus Carter, 83, of Quitman, died Sunday, September 14, 2003, at Archbold after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Carter was born in Colquitt to Guite and Maggie Sholar Carter. He had been a resident of Brooks County for 56 years moving from Colquitt. He was a retired sanitation engineer for Brooks County Health Department and a member of the First Baptist Church of Quitman.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Quitman with the Rev. Loren Hildebrant officiating. Interment followed in Colquitt City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Carter, Quitman; one daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Butch Dubberley, Leavenworth, KS; five sisters, Polly Lofton, Virginia Ingram, Colquitt, Marcelle Houston, Blakely, Ella Jean Wilson, Decatur, Margaret Crawford, Warner Robins; one brother, Bud Carter, Colquitt; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Worthy was born in Early County on November 3, 1933 to the late Earnest and Cosseta Grant Loyd. She was a homemaker.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Edward "Dick" Worthy of Donalsonville; two sons Gerald and Lori Worthy of Donalsonville; Steve and Janet Worthy of Bonifay, FL; one daughter Dianne and Mike Adams of Donalsonville; four brothers Rudolph Loyd of Bainbridge; Andrew Loyd of Cario; Ray Loyd of Lakeland, FL; Buddy Loyd of Albany; two sisters Sue Childree of Leesburg, GA and Carlottie Hand of Bainbridge; six grandchildren and one great grandchildren also survive. We regret to announce the passing of Norman Ellsworth Treadwell, age 69, of Donalsonville, who passed away Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the Donalsonville Hospital.
A memorial service was held Sunday, September 14, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Donalsonville with Rev. Randy Carnley officiating.
Mr. Treadwell was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 20, 1934 to the late William B. and Mabel Ellsworth Treadwell. He served his country in the US Navy for 10 years, then began working with the US Treasury Department where he retired after many years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Janet Treadwell of Donalsonville; one son Kenneth and Linda Treadwell of Quartz Hill, CA; one step-son, Steven and Tammy Acup of Leesburg, VA; one brother, Bill and June Treadwell of Hickory, NC; one sister, Shirley Dennis of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Chanel, Stephanie and Trevor Treadwell and Anna Nichole and Stephanie Acup. Abe Earthy Garrett, 102, a retired farmer, went home to be with the Lord of Monday, September 8, 2003, at a local care center.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Tabor Christian Center with the Rev. Bowman officiating. The place of internment was Cedar Hill Memorial Park.
Survivors include children, Annie Garrett, Gladys Harper, Ophelia Harkey, Mary Douglas, Mattie Pearl Carter, Francis Thomas and her husband Aubery, and Clara Anderson; 180 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

COLLIE RONALD BUSH
Collie Ronald Bush, 46, of 1596 Sandy Bottom Rd. in Blakely, passed away September 13, 2003.
Mr. Bush was born November 2, 1956 in Seminole County to Collie Clarence Bush and the late Louise Womble Bush. He was a member of the Cuba Presbyterian Church and was employed with S.E. Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation and lived most of his life in Early County.
The funeral was held September 15, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Manry Jordan Funeral Home with internment at Bush Cemetery. The officiating minister was Rev. Sandy Monroe.
Active pallbearers were Art Powell Jr., Brad Hornsby, Steve Moore, Wayne White, Randy White, and Billy David.
Survivors include wife, Betty Sue Bates Bush of Blakely; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Aaron Warfield of Blakely; 1 granddaughter, Hailey Warfield of Blakely.

Mrs. Beatrice W. Varnadoe, 83, of Colquitt passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Miller County Hospital.
Mrs. Varnadoe was born June 13, 1920 in Miller County. She was a homemaker and a member of Colquitt United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 25, at Colquitt United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matt Stewart and the Rev. Tim Mock officiating. Interment followed at Gordon Cemetery.
PallbearersVictor Sheffield, John Trawick II, Shane Rathel, Erik Varnadoe, Benjamin Trawick, Dusty Rathel and Alan Jenkins served as active pallbearers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Varnadoe in 1997 and one daughter, Jimmie M. Varnadoe.

Mrs. Chesire was born in Seminole County to the late Lonnie and Julia Mae Batchelor Gibbons on October 31, 1916. She was married to the late Carl Cheshire. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church, and a member of the Jubilees. For the past few years she had resided at Seminole Manor.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Betty and Willard Mims of Donalsonville, Jean Ellen and James Spears of Winter Haven, FL, Bobbie Sue and James Kierce of Winter Haven, FL and Freida and James Welch of Plant City, FL; three sisters: Jessie Hatcher of Geneva, AL, Jean Darr of Foley, AL, and Kathryn Spitler of Troy, AL.
13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Cheshire, two sisters, a brother and 1 great grandson.
