VELMA LOUISE CROSS JENKISSON
Velma Louise Cross Jenkisson, 82, of Brunswick, MD, formerly of Donalsonville, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 in Maryland.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 15, 2004 at 11:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Gifford officiating. Interment followed in Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City.
Pallbearers were Oliver Widner, Robin Cross, Wayne Frasier, Nathan Wiggins, Alton Harrison and Karl Ingram.
Mrs. Jenkisson was born on December 31, 1921 in Miller County to the late Jiley Mack and Lela Pearl Brockett Cross. She was married to Peter Fairbarn Jenkisson who preceded her in death on April 19, 1990. She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan and Harold Thompson of Brunswick, MD; two brothers, Mack Cross of Jakin and J.E. Cross of Destin, FL; six sisters, Betrice Widner of Colquitt, Beulah Fraiser Baker of Donalsonville, Jessie "Sis" Ingram of Columbus, Margie Covington of Miami, FL, Clara Wiggins of Baxley and Earnestine Brazelton of Santa Ana, CA; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Michael Jenkisson and two brothers, Ralph Cross and Bazel Eugene Cross Sr. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
AGNES TRULOCK KILLIAN
Agnes "Miss Aggie" Trulock Killian, 96, of Donalsonville, died Saturday, March 13, 2004 at her residence.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 4:30 p.m. at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Luther Hastey and Rev. James Scarborough officiating.
Pallbearers will be David Doster, Billy Coy Williams, Billy Ray Williams, Chris Henry, Jesse McLeod, Broaddus Simpson and Alton Harrison.
Mrs. Killian was born on December 20, 1907 in Whigham to the late Elbert Peacock and Kate McElvy Trulock. She was married to Robert Killian who preceded her in death. "Miss Aggie" had lived in Donalsonville since 1939. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville and a was a retired school teacher. She taught school for 45 years and retired from the Seminole County School System in 1977.
Survivors include two nieces, Ann and Beth Marable of Donalsonville; two sister-in-laws, Hilda Trulock of Vienna and Millie Trulock of Donalsonville; several other nieces and nephews also survive. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
MYRTICE PRESTON
Myrtice Preston, 87, of Donalsonville, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at the Donalsonville Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with the Rev. Luther Hastey and Rev. Ellis Hardwick officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville.
Pallbearers will be Tim Lashley, Dooly Powell, Douglas Preston, Joseph Beverette, Davis Preston and Joey Beverette.
Mrs. Preston was born on January 25, 1917 in Dale County, AL to the late James and Alma Beverette Weems. She owned and operated Myrt's Fashions in Donalsonville for many years. She was married to William Glen Preston who preceded her in death February 24, 1981. Mrs. Preston was a member of Brinson Baptist Church in Brinson.
Survivors include one son, Lamar and his wife Jane "Randy" Preston of Bainbridge; one daughter-in-law, Jean Preston of Donalsonville; one sister-in-law, Winnie Preston of Donalsonville; two sisters, Edna Powell of Bainbridge and Othell Day of Attapulgus; one aunt, Mary Ella Lawrence; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Glen Preston in 1981, one son, Burwyn Preston in 2000 and one granddaughter, Tina Michelle Preston in 1981. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
GLADYS RHETA CLEVELAND
Mrs. Gladys Retha Cleveland, age 90, of Colquitt died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Miller Nursing Home.
Mrs. Cleveland was born April 16, 1913 in Baker County. She was a member of Mt. Olive Holiness Church and was a homemaker. She had worked at Williamson-Dickies in Bainbridge for years.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 26 at 11:30 a.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Mock officiating. Interment will follow in Colquitt City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Joiner, Terry Joiner, Michael Joiner, Greg Waddell, Chad Waddell, Timmie Cleveland and Ronnie Godwin.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Buford and Melba Cleveland, Auburndale, FL; three daughters, Lautrella Joiner, Colquitt, Mary Anne and son-in-law, Monroe Godwin, and Betty Jean Waddell, Bainbridge; two sisters, Ethel Alford, Grace Ammons, Bainbridge; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.

JAMES ROGER WADE
James Roger Wade, age 51, of Columbus, formerly of Colquitt died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 in Tuskegee, AL.
Mr. Wade was born May 29, 1953 in Miller County. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the Air Force.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 25 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 26 at 10:30 a.m, at Colquitt City Cemetery with full military honors. The Rev. Walter Daniels officiated.
Survivors include two sons, Chris Wade, Salt Lake City, UT, Eric Wade; six sisters, Ann Glass, Evelyn Forsyth, Haines City, FL, Wynetta McLendon, Mildred Bowen, Colquitt, Nita Whiddon, Doles, Barbara Peace, Albany; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

ALBERT PAYNE NANTZ
Albert Payne Nantz, 67, of Colquitt, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Miller County.
Pallbearers were Tim Raffield, Don Harrison, Keith Bowen, Kenneth Massey, Emerson Skipper and Carlton Skipper, who are all Deacons at Rocky Ridge Baptist Church.
Mr. Nantz was born on December 21, 1936 in Cobb County to the late Thomas Alexander and Mary Lou Lee Nantz. He worked as an insulator for North Brothers, where he was a supervisor. He was married to the former Vestia Patricia Clure on June 30, 1956. They had lived in Colquitt since 1989. Mr. Nantz was a members of Rocky Ridge Baptist Church and he was a member of the Air National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Nantz of Colquitt; two sons, Payne Nantz and Paul Nantz and his wife Laura, all of Colquitt; one daughter, Robyn Young of Fairhope, AL; three brothers, Thomas Nantz and his wife Betty of Douglasville, Glenn Nantz and his wife Liz of Greensboro and Charles Nantz of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Mitchell. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
SANDY PARKER
Sandy Parker, 35, of Bainbridge, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel in Bainbridge with Rev. Calvin Arnold and Rev. Newton Cranford officiating. Interment followed in West Bainbridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were George Lizotte, Jariet Cook, Reggie Dean, Chris Jackson, Richard Spooner and Keith Griffin.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, April 2, 2004 at Ivey Funeral Home.
Ms. Parker was born on July 18, 1968 in Decatur County, the daughter of Marvin Perry Parker and Deborah Powell Parker. She graduated from Bainbridge High School and was a former radio dispatcher for the Donalsonville Police Department and the Bainbridge Police Department. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Michael Gunn; one daughter, Jennifer Gunn; one brother, Marvin P. Parker, Jr.; one sister, Mary Beth Lizotte; her mother, Debbie P. Parker, all of Bainbridge and her grandparents Ralph and Mary Katherine Gardner Powell of Brinson.

THOMAS ELIAS "T.E." NEWBERRY
Thomas Elias “T.E.” Newberry, age 85, of Colquitt died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Mr. Newberry was born October 7, 1918 in Miller County. He was a member of Colquitt First Baptist Church and was a tractor and farm equipment parts salesman. He was a member of the Harrel Sunday School class and was a WWII Air Force Veteran.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Colquitt First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Bazal officiating. Interment will follow at the city cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Clenney, Tommy Moore, Bo Everson, Glen Sheffield, Charles Bodrey and James Fudge.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Harrel Sunday School Class.

Winston Eugene "Wink" Houston, Sr., 78, of Donalsonville, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, AL.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville with Dr. Joe Lovelady, Rev. Kirk Loyless and Dr. Gary Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening, March 30, 2004 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Stan Kennedy, Bobby Powell, Richard Williams, Roy Rogers, Steve Bailey, Harold Crosson, Glenn Sheffield, Royce Cannington, Jr. and Larry Shoemaker. Mr. Houston was born on October 2, 1925 in Miller County to the late Billy Bruton and Florence Pyle Houston. He worked as a guard with Southern Airways in Bainbridge for 10 years and then went to work with Amoco Oil Company when the base closed. He was the manager of the Fertilizer division for Amoco Oil Company in Iron City as well as being employed with the Amoco Gas Company. He worked with Amoco for 31 years until he retired. He also worked for several years as the crossing guard at the Seminole County Elementary School. He and his wife were the owners of the Jakin Skating Rink for 15 years. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and a member of the Julian Webb Bible Class. He was a Shriner and a Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Wiley Houston of Donalsonville; one son, Gene Houston of Donalsonville; one daughter, Sandy Snipes and her husband David of Donalsonville; one granddaughter, Meg Moulton of Donalsonville; one sister, Betty Ruth Lovelady and her husband Dr. Joe Lovelady of Oxford, MS and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Emmett Houston and J.B. Houston and two sisters, Bernice Taylor and Beulah Grimsley. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
JAMES EDWARD WHITAKER
James Edward Whitaker, 89, of Colquitt, died March 26, 2004 at Miller County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Mock and Rev. Kent Barwick officiating. Interment will follow in Colquitt City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Allen, Wesley Whitaker, Tony Mock, Arnold Whitaker, Jarrott Mock and Eli Whitaker.
Mr. Whitaker was born March 16, 1915 in Miller County. He was a farmer and a member of the Colquitt First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Dr. A.J. Whitaker of Columbia, SC and Sidney Whitaker of Colquitt; one stepdaughter, Trellis Mock of Colquitt; one stepson, Buddy Lord of Marianna, FL; five step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Whitaker, one sister, Flora Mae Mock and four brothers, J.P Whitaker, Herman Whitaker, Euston Whitaker and Eugene Whitaker.

JUANITA WHIGHAM MCDOUGALD
Mrs. Juanita Whigham McDougald, age 86, of Bainbridge died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Mrs. McDougald was born October 10, 1917 in Grady County. She was a member of First Christian Church in Bainbridge was a homemaker and child care provider for 22 years. She was a member of the Ladies Circle, First Christian Church Choir, and the Ladies Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Wesley Stedtefeld officiating. Interment followed at Oak City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bruce Mann, Paul Harrell, Gary King Sr., Gary King, Jr., John Shoemaker, Larry McDougald, Tommy McDougald and Dennis Poppell.
Survivors include one son, Mack D. McDougald, Thomasville; one daughter, Alice McDougald, Bainbridge; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
