Harriette Collins quietly passed away Oct. 6. A long time resident of Torrance, California, Harriette also lived in Monroe, Georgia; Paducah, Kentucky; Mancelona, Michigan and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was well known for her musical talents and also as a teacher for over 40 years. Harriette is survived by her husband: Henry Collins, and children: Kay, John, Char and Rick. Private internment services will be held at Green Hills Cemetery in Palos Verdes. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 17th, at 3 p.m. at St. Peters by the Sea Presbyterian Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Harriette's name to the City of Hope

Clyde Alfred Eggleston, age 68 of Monroe, died on Oct. 2, 2008. He was born in Greenbriar County, West Virginia on Aug. 11, 1940 to the late Bertha Bryant Eggleston and Earnest Eggleston. Surviving are: wife: Judy Darlene Carter Eggleston of Monroe; sisters: Dora Long of Loganville and Helen Gross of Gilbert, West Virginia; brother: Jimmy Eggleston of White Lake, Michigan. Funeral Services were held on Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Autry and the Rev. Jake Davis officiating. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Garden in Beckley, West Virginia.

Hubert Connor Head, age 83 of Good Hope, died Oct. 2, 2008. He was born in Morgan County on May 18, 1925 to the late Zelma Louise Connor Head and the late Andrew Jackson Head. Surviving are: wife: Betty Sue Armstead Head; sons and daughters-in-law: Jim and Elaine Head of Monroe, Joel and Tammy Head of Good Hope, and the late Connor Head; daughter and son-in-law: The late Lynn Sims and David Sims of Monroe; brother: Jim Head of Loganville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. James Walter Partee
James Walter Partee, age 84 of Social Circle, died on Sept. 14, 2008. He was born in Walton County on Sept. 17, 1923 to the late Walter D. Partee and Martha Adams Partee. He served in Europe in the US Army during World War II under General Patton earning multiple decorations. He lived most of his adult life in San Francisco, CA working as a stockbroker. He moved back to Social Circle in 1995 to be near his mother. He was a devoted son. He loved the Lord, his church, his friends, and community. Surviving are: brother and sister-in-law: The late Walter Partee and Frances Partee; four nieces; and several cousins.

Hollis B.Brown, age 80, of Monroe, Georgia died at Emory Eastside Hospital on Sept. 24, 2008 after a yearlong illness. He was born Sept. 4, 1928 in Dora, Alabama to the late parents Edith and Greene Franklin Brown. He is survived by his wife: Auriejean; daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Kenneth Brown of Stockbridge; daughter and son in law: Judy and Jimmy Vickery of Bishop; seven grandchildren: Charles Vernon Jordan III, Zachary Caleb Jordan, James Virgil Vickory III, Justin Nicholas Vickery, Jennifer Ann Vickery, Christina Shae Armistead, Chadwick Armistead; four great-grandchildren also survive him; three brothers: Ellis R. Brown, Jerry Dixon, Marvin Dixon; four sisters: Mazie Lavender, Mary Jo Loyd, Willa Dean Clark, and Carolyn Mintz, further survive him. Tammy Sue Leadingham
Tammy Sue Leadingham, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008. Tammy was born April 10, 1966, and graduated from North Newton High School, Morocco, IN. in 1984. She married Paul Leadingham on June 15, 1985 in Lake Village, IN. They have three wonderful children, Robert Leadingham, 22, currently attending The University of Georgia, Nicholas Leadingham, 18, currently attending, Georgia Perimeter College, Kirsten Leadingham 17, a senior at Shiloh High School. Also surviving are her parents: Wayne and Sandy Wiltfang; brothers: Shane and Mickey; and sister: Candy, as well as numerous members of her extended family. Tammy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 233, Loganville and the Patriot Guard Riders. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be sent to the American Legion Legacy Fund, which provides college funds for children of fallen soldiers.

John Miller Conn, Jr.
John Miller Conn, Jr., born July 26, 1979, died Nov. 13, 2008. After graduating from the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Miller attended the University of Georgia. Miller interrupted his pursuit of his college degree to join the U.S. Army in Oct. 2001, where he graduated near the top of his class at the Defense Language Institute. Mr. Conn continued to serve in the Army as a Russian linguist until Oct., 2006. Miller completed his bachelor's degree in Russian at University of Georgia in Aug. 2008 and began law school at University of Georgia at that time. Miller is survived by his wife Alexis, and two children, Alyssa Marie and John Dylan

Byron H. Dunn, M.D. died on Nov. 15, 2008. He was preceded in death by parents Mercer L. and Myrtice H. Dunn and brothers Lynwood, Lamar, and Roger. Juan Whitehead, 77, husband of the late Betty Dillard Whitehead, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008. Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Sim and Maude Thurmond Whitehead. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Danny Whitehead. He was self employed as a Logger. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at 11a.m. at Oconee Chapel Funeral Directors with the Rev. Larry Davison officiating. Burial followed at Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Bradberry, Mitch Bradberry, Doug Dickens, Jason Dire, Lee Whitehead and Randy Whitehead.

Rebecca Whan Midgley, 84, of Fort Myers, passed away Nov. 9, 2008. Rebecca was born Nov. 25, 1923 in Monroe, to Robert and Sally (Clegg) Hanson. During WWII, Rebecca was a “Rosie the Riveter,” working on B-25 bombers. She moved to Fort Myers in April of 1961 from Griffin, GA. Rebecca was a founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, as well as the first female church Elder and a past Deacon. Rebecca was a past President of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, a sponsor of the Fort Myers Symphony Orchestra, and she was active with the Araba Shrine Temple. Carl Edwin Banks, age 19 of Monroe, died on Oct. 20, 2008. He was born in Clarke County, Georgia on July 26, 1989 to Melanie Kae Sessions Banks of Monroe and Johnny Carroll Banks of Alma. He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, the late Deedee Degraffried. He was working on his GED, and upon completion he planned to enroll in Athens Tech. Mildred C. Hodges, 97, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away Saturday. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Pearl Cooper; husband: Gerald T. Hodges; grandson: Christopher Butler; and sister: Frances Marr, Huntsville. Mrs. Hodges was a member of First Christian Church. She was retired from the Huntsville City School System as a teacher. Marie Townsend Conner, 87, passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. A native of Athens, Mrs. Conner was the daughter of the late George A. and Madeline Roche Townsend and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Sidney Conner. She received her BS and Masters Degree from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Conner worked at the Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC and also as a dietician at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dublin, Georgia before returning to the University of Georgia in the same capacity. She retired from the University of Georgia in 1974 and did many years of volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. Mrs. Conner was also a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Ralph Griffin Hale, Jr. age 81 of Dacula, GA died Dec. 12, 2008. Mr. Hale served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Bellsouth after 34 years of service. He served as Bailiff in Gwinnett County for 13 years. R.G. spent years of dedication and public service in the City of Dacula, he played an instrumental role in establishing the first football program at Dacula High School and was a charter member of the Quarterback Club, a Planning and Zoning Commission member and a City Councilman. Ralph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a loving family member to all that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Betty M. Margaret Elizabeth Davis, 71, passed away December 9, 2008. A native of Walton County, she was a daughter of Edna Waldrop Waters of Jersey, GA and the late J. D. Smith. She was preceded in death by a son: Jeff Davis and two brothers: Daniel Smith and Gene Smith. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and had been the biscuitmaker at Hardees in Watkinsville for many years.
