JOHN DARRELL CROSS
John Darrell Cross, 54, of Bascome, FL, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Medical Center in Dothan, AL.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with the Rev. Van Clack and the Rev. Luther Hastey officiating. Interment followed in Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City.
Pallbearers were Kevin Griffin, Jerry Allen, Paul Cross, Charles Cross Jr., Clay Logue, and Matt Hall.
Mr. Cross was born in Seminole County on July 29, 1949 to the late William Emory Cross and Lois Woodham Cross. He graduated from Seminole County High School in 1967. On March 1, 1968, he married the former Betty Ann Atwell, to whom he had been married for 36 years. Mr. Cross was a conductor, driving the caboose, for Appalachiocola Northern Railroad in Port St. Joe, FL for 33 and one half years. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Cross of Bascom, FL; his mother, Lois Cross of Iron City; one son, John and his wife Angela Cross of Malone, FL; one daughter, Kelly Ann Cross of Bascom, FL; one brother, Charles Cross Sr. of Canton; one sister, Kathryn and her husband Buryl Logue of Iron City; two granddaughters, Katelyn and Alyssa Cross; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emory Cross, and a brother, Joseph Cross.

CARENE HILBURN
Carene Hilburn, 93, of Colquitt, died Friday, July 2, 2004 in Miller County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 4, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Cook’s Union Methodist Church with Rev. Floyd Mitchell and Rev. Al Lewis officiating. Interment followed in Cook’s Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Hilburn was born December 13, 1910 in Miller County and was a member of Blakely Chapter of Eastern Star #282. She was a homemaker and a member of Cook’s Union Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Hilburn and daughter-in-law Molly and Hamilton Hilburn and daughter-in-law Verlie Mae, all of Colquitt; one daughter-in-law, Betty Hilburn of Colquitt; one son-in-law, Joe McClamma of Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren, David Hilburn and granddaughter-in-law Rhonda, Mark Hilburn and granddaughter-in-law Shelley, Julie Hilburn and Gay H. Edmonds and grandson-in-law Tim; five great-grandchildren, Sarah Hilburn, Joseph Hilburn, Cameron Stache, Jessica Edmonds and Zach Edmonds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hilburn and four children, Billy Hilburn, Charlie Frank Hilburn, Betty Hilburn and Ada Diane McClamma.

VERNON L. NEWSOME
Mr. Vernon L. Newsome, age 71, of Coqluitt died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Newsome was born April 3, 1933 in Clarke County, AL. He was a retired meat inspector and attended Thompson Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17 at 3:00 p.m. at Thompson Free will Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne SHeffield and
the Rev. Floyd Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hubert Sheffield, Steve Holt, George Williams, Roger Bass, Hilton Lashley, Hayes Bowen and Kenneth Haire.
Survivors include his wife, Louise M. Newsome, Colquitt; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gayle Newsome, Colquitt; two brothers, Clyde Newsome, Shelton Newsome, Bainbridge; two sisters, Nellie Willis, Hollandale, MS, Jewel Mosely, Carriere, MS; and three grandchildren.

JACK L. SILAS
Mr. Jack L. Silas, age 57, of Donalsonville died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Silas was born in Panama City, FL on August 24, 1946 to Lt. Col. Durward Silas and the late Vivian Lynn Silas. He was a pipefitter and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disable American Veterans, the V.V.A., and the American Legion.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lynn Family Cemetery in Donalsonville with military honors.
Survivors include his father, Lt. Col. Durward Silas, Donalsonville; one son, Jim Woods, West Yellowstone, MT; one daughter, April Freier, Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, Patricia Hall, New Brockton, AL, Terry Barbella, Birmingham, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

KENNETH EARL COX
Kenneth Earl Cox, age 59, of Leary died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Mr. Cox was born November 14, 1944 in Seminole County. He was a farmer and a member of Bellview Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16 at 3:00 p.m. at Bellview Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. David Womack officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday night, July 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Sheffield Cox, Baker County; two sons, Stacy Earl and daughter-in-law, Teresa Cox, Damascus, Kenneth Charles Cox, Baker County; two brothers, Donnell Cox, Colquitt, Julius Cox, Damascus; four sisters, Mary Griffin, Jane Moye, Ann Smith, Helen Cox; three grandchildren and several neices and nephews.

JAMES TYLER HARDEN
Mr. James Tyler Harden, Sr., age 63, of Donalsonville died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Harden was born July 5, 1941 in Miller County. He was a industrial mechanic at Amoco Fabrics and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended Donalsonville Church of God.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Scarborough officiating. Interment followed at South Mt. Zion Cemetery.

ROSCOE DANIELS
Mr. Roscoe Daniels, age 76, of Colquitt died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.
Mr. Daniels was born October 10, 1927 in Miller County. He was a member of Mother’s Home Free Will Baptist Church, a member of the Cairo Masonic Lodge #299, and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Mother’s Home Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Whitaker and the Rev. Walter Daniels officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie H. Daniels, Colquitt; three sons, Ray and Flora Daniels, Springdale, AZ, Jimmy and Linda Daniels, Snora, KY, and Mike and Becky Daniels, Buffalo, NY; two daughters, Doris and Jim Knight, Kissimmee, FL, Devorah and David Kranz, Titusville, FL; three brothers, Walter Daniels, Henry Clifton Daniels, both of Colquitt, and Billy Daniels, Colquitt; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

ZULA WILLIAMSON
Mrs. Zula Williamson, age 89 of Colquitt died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Miller County Hospital.
Mrs. Williamson was born December 19, 1914 in Early County. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral servies were held Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lindsay Gay officiating. Interment followed in Colquitt City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harold Gordon, Henry Peterson, Wilvin Johnson, Ricky Olds, Henry Worsley, and Benjamin Johnson.
Survivors include one son, David Williamson, Tallahassee, FL; four daughters, Betty Tabb, Seale, AL, Mildred Merritt, Sylvester, Doris Olds, Blakely, Donnie Cox, Albany; two brothers, Alvin Gordon, Lamar Gordon, Colquitt; four sisters, Agnes Johnson, Robbie Kirksey, Colquitt, Lillie Stanton, Auburndale, FL, Bobbie West, Lake Blackshear; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick David Williamson and one grandson, Jeff Cox.

OLLIE GODBY TRAWICK
Mrs. Ollie Godby Trawick, age 89, of Iron City died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Trawick was born in Seminole County on July 28, 1914 to the late John Henry and Isabella Eley Godby. She was married to Denve Denmark Trawick who preceded her in death in 1982. She was a homemaker and loved to fish and work in her yards. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donalsonvile and the Dorcas Sunday School class.
Graveside services were held Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Rock Pond/Mount Olive Baptist Cemetery in Iron City with the Rev. Luther Hastey and Dr. Don McCaskill officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Dee Trawick and his wife, Anne, John Emory Trawick and his wife, Dorothy, both of Iron City; two daughters, Ina Fowler and husband, Bill, Donalsonville, and Gail Sullivan and husband, Robert, Smith, AL; one brother, John “Jay” Godby, Iron City; eight grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

ELNA FAYE KIRKLAND BARBER
Elna Faye Kirkland Barber, 91, of Donalsonville, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at River Willows Nursing Center in Abbeville.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Hastey and Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville.
Pallbearers were Jack Shamblin, Cecil Lunsford, Carlton Kelley, Bill Fowler, Jabo King and Lewis Godby.
Mrs. Barber was born in Headland, AL on June 14, 1913 to the late Lydia Brackin and P.I. Kirkland Sr. She was married to William Pryor Barber, who preceded her in death. She worked with the Seminole School system as a lunchroom assistant until she retired and also was a seamstress. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she will be rememberd by many as teaching preschool four through five year-olds in Sunday School for over 40 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathy B. Williams of Colquitt, Roslyn B. Hayes and Beverly B. Coleman and her husband Larry, all of Tallahassee, FL; two sons, Billy Barber and his wife Eileen of Eatonton and Bruce Barber of Dothan, AL; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
