DANNY POLLOCK

Mr. Danny Pollock, 48, of Brinson, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at his residence.

His remains have been cremated.

Mr. Pollock was born in Bainbridge on January 9, 1956 to Vera Margaret Corley Pollock and the late Edward Earl Pollock. He was married to Bertha Drain Pollock and worked as an electrician with Albany Electric. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Pollock of Brinson; his mother, Maragaret Pollock of Iron City; two sons, Nicholas Shane Pollock and his wife Julia Ann and Brandon Curtis, both of Brinson; one daughter, Shanna Noel Pollock of Brinson; two brothers James Edward Pollock of Ponce de Leon, FL and Larry Earl Pollock of Iron City; one sister Lucille Richmond of Iron City; two grandsons, Nicholas Alexander Pollock and Joseph Shane Pollock.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Earl Pollock, his paternal grandfather, Earl Pollock, his maternal grandparents, John W. Drain and Willow Dean Drain.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home of Donalsonville was in charge of the arrangements.

JAMES HAND

Mr. James Hand, age 80, of Bainbridge passed away Friday, July 23, 2004 in the Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Hand were held on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with the Rev. Todd McDaniel and the Rev. Jeff Buchanan officiating. Interment will followed in the Brinson Cemetery in Brinson.
Mr. Hand was born in Houston County, AL on Jan. 7, 1924 to the late Ressiea and Ella Thompson Hand. He was a farmer and worked for awhile in the maintenance department at Bainbridge College. Mr. Hand was a member of the Bainbridge Church of God.
Mr. Hand is survived by two brother, Eural Hand and his wife Geraldine of Sylvester and Lamar “Sonny” Hand and his wife Loyce of Calhoun; two sister, Mary Cox and her husband Foy “Buddy” Cox of Bainbridge and Edna Hooks of Donalsonville; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ressie and Ella Thompson Hand; Five brothers, Ed Hand, Travis Hand, Burl Hand, Junior Hand, and Earl Hand; and a sister, Willie B. Williamson.
Active pallbearers will be Sammy Hand, Billy Gene Hand, Lamar Hand, Herman Hand, Jerry Hooks, and Stacy Williamson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sanctuary Seniors Sunday School Class of the Bainbridge Church of God. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

RICHARD LEE CLARK

Mr. Richard Lee Clark, age 67, of Donalsonville passed away Friday, July 23, 2004 in the Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services for Mr. Clark was held on Monday, July 26, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with the Rev. Randy Carnley officiating and Mr.. Clark’s step-daughter, Denise Merritt, also speaking. Interment followed in the Barrancas National Cemetery at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL.
Mr. Clark was born on Jan. 25, 1937 in Sugar Grove, Ohio to the late Isaac and Alice Louise Stebelton Clark. He retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World Organization, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and active in the VFW while living in Carthage, TX. Mr. Clark was a member of Reynolds Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Clark leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Maxine Clark of Donalsonville; two sons, Clif Clark and his wife Sonia of Havana, FL and Kevin Clark of Davie, FL; two step-sons, Steven Shepard of San Antonio, TX and Richard Shepard of Pace, FL; three step-daughters, Donna McQuary of Great Mills, MD, Denise Merritt of Carthage, TX, and Debbie Matthews of Blanchard, LA; on brother, Robert Clark of Bremen, OH, and two grandchildren, Autumn and Austin Clark. Thirteen step- grandchildren also survive. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

EDWIN NEWTON AVERETT

Edwin Newton Averett, 85, of Gainesville, formerly of Jackson County, FL, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Health System Inc. in Gainesville.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with Rev. Mark Bristow officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery on Hwy. 2 in Bascom, FL.

Mr. Averett was born February 17, 1919 in Cypress, FL, to the late Edwin M. and Susie Anna Culverhouse Averett. He graduated from Florida Southern College with a B.S. Degree in Business. Mr. Averett was married to the former Edith Brookshire. He was a retired Marshal for the District Court of Appeals for the State of Florida. Mr. Averett lived in Lakeland, Fl for 50 years before moving to Gainesville. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Averett of Gainesville and one brother, Allious Averett of Donalsonvillle. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

CHARLOTTE MARY ANN BARBER PARKER

Charlotte Mary Ann Barber Parker, 90, of Dothan, AL, formerly of Donalsonville, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hammock Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Donalsonville, with Dr. Gary Smith, Dr. Sam Brassell and Rev. Michael Reeves officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville.
Pallbearers were Bill Godfrey, Mac Harrison, Jr., Steve Amerison, Eddie Miller, Jr,, Tommy Newberry and Chuck Newberry.

Mrs. Parker was born February 24, 1914, in Decatur County, now Seminole County, to the Late Willie Monroe Barber and Minnie Gause Barber. She was a farm wife, and a member of the rural “Parker Town” community of Seminole County for many years until her 1992 move to Dothan AL.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Willie Byron Parker and his wife, Patricia Williams Parker, of Dothan, AL; two grandsons and their wives, Warren Byron (Ron) and his wife Brenda McDaniel Parker of Birmingham, AL, and William Daniel (Dan) and his wife Ann Farley Parker of Fort Worth, TX; four sisters and brother-in-law; Hazel Barber Casteel of Columbus; Vera Barber Gafford of Midland, Myrtle Barber Miller of Iron City, and Addie (Doll) Barber Olds and Winfred Olds of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by, her husband, Burrell Henry Parker; her parents, Willie Monroe Barber and Minnie Gause Barber; two brothers, Bonnie B. Barber and George F. Barber; and one sister, Lois Barber Miller Turner. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

JENIFER LEE BROCK

Jenifer Lee Brock, 42, of Seattle, WA, died Sunday, August 1, 2004 in Seattle, WA.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bennie Cumbie officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery in Vada.

Pallbearers will be Brock Middleton, Keith Middleton, Cody Middleton, Randy Foister, Donny Foister, and Billy Wolfe.

Mrs. Brock was born March 8, 1962 in Decautur County. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Jenell Victoria Brock of Seattle, WA; one grandson, Kaiden Charles Ellingsworth of Seattle, WA; two brothers, James and wife Jacklyn Brock of Houston, TX, Brett and wife Day Henderson of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Judy and husband Bobby Duke of Sylvester and Jan and Caroll Middleton of Colquitt; her mother, Varnell Brock Henderson of Colquitt; seven nieces and four nephews.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

MAUDE THOMPSON GLASS

Maude Thompson Glass, 94, of Donalsonville, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville.

Funeral services were held August 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Donalsonville Church of God with Rev. Stan Long officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Seminole County on June 18, 1910 to the late James W. and Fannie Denton Thompson. She was a homemaker and a member of Donalsonville Church of God. Her husband, Reuben Sinclair Glass, preceded her in death in 1961.

Survivors include one son, Reuben LaDon “Don” Glass of Dothan, AL; one daughter, JoAnn Odom of Brinson; one brother, J.C. Thompson of Valdosta; three sisters, Audrey Odom of Tifton, Gladys Parks of Daytona, FL, and Sybil Carroll of Marianna, FL; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren with one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Frank Glass; one daughter, Dorothy Porter; five sisters, Mae Alday, Lee Lloyd, Ruby Bell, Pauline Carroll, Bessie Brogdon; two brother, Rufus Thompson and Sanford Thompson. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

DALE BLANCHARD

Dale Blanchard, age 33, of Bainbridge died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Bainbridge.
Mr. Blanchard was born December 20, 1970, in Bainbridge. He was a graduate of the class of 1989 from Bainbridge High School. He was a mill worker with Georgia Pacific Corporation and was a Baptist.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 29, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bob Norman and the Rev. Danny Shepard officiating. Interment followed at West Bainbridge Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Carlton Chance, Reggie Ponder, Tony Morris, Ryan Welch, Mark Powell, and Brad Spooner.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were employees of Georgia Pacific.
Survivors include two children, Kaylee Blanchard and Karsyn Blanchard, both of Donalsonville; one brother, Hank Blanchard, Atlanta; two sisters, Andy Kaye Walsh, Fairfax, VA, and Anna Murrah, Climax; and mother, Sue Lynn Blanchard, Bainbridge.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

KENNETH GLASS

Mr. Kenneth Glass, 84, of Colquitt passed away July 31, 2004, at Donalsonville Hospital. The funeral was held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bobby Whitaker and Rev. Winford Miller officiating. Interment followed at Bellview Church Cemetery with military honors. Isaac Bush, Owen Standifer, Josh Parker, Mark Young, Daniel Mock, and Brian Gibson served as pallbearers.
Mr. Glass was born July 11, 1920, in Baker County. He was a farmer and a member of Thompson Freewill Baptist Church. His survivors include his wife, Mary Alma Glass of Colquitt; two daughters, Linda Dozier and son- in-law Johnny of Colquitt and Johnnie Ogg and son-in-law Arthur of Colquitt, three sisters, Emma Jean Smith and Louise Hodges, both of Colquitt, and Calista Sanders of Bainbridge; three grandchildren, Lori Burke, Anthony Ogg, and Missy Young; and four great-grandchildren, Kasey Burke, Kimberly Burke, Destiny Young, and Mark Maloy Young.
Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

MACK CROSS

Mr. Mack Cross, 84, of Jakin, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Cross was born in Miller County on June 19, 1920, to the late Jiley Mack and Lela Pearl Brockett Cross. He was married to Christine Smith, who preceded him in death in January 2003. He was a retired farmer who loved to fish, a wonderful father, grandfather and a friend to all.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 1, at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Evans Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Dawson and the Rev. Robert Johns officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville.
Pallbearers were Ricky Smith, Herman Enfinger, Milton Johnson, Nathan Wiggins, Wilton Albritton, and Ricky King.
Survivors include four daughters, Faye Ruthledge, Mable Shiver and her husband, Ronnie, Sara Cook and her husband, Roger, Jackie Alday, all of Donalsonville; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Cross, Donalsonville; four sons, Louie Cross, Buddy Cross and his wife, Pat, J.M. Cross and wife, Angie, all of Donalsonville, Robin Cross, Jakin; one brother, J.E. Cross, Destin, FL; six sisters, Betrice Widner, Colquitt, Beulah Fraiser Baker, Donalsonville, Jessie “Sis” Ingram, Columbus, Margie Covington, Miami, FL, Clara Wiggins, Baxley, Earnestine Brazelton, Santa Ana, CA; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one granddaughter, Jill Cook in 1993, two brothers, Ralph Cross and Bazel Eugene Cross, Sr., and one sister, Louise Jenkisson. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

MARVIN ULMA WELLS SR.

Marvin Ulma Wells, Sr., age 82, of Colquitt died Friday, August 13, 2004, at Miller County Hospital.

Mr. Wells was born August 23, 1921 in Miller County. He was a member of Colquitt First Baptist Church and was a farmer. He was also a member of the Walter C. Dancer Lodge #115 and a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hal Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in Whites Bridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mitch Smith, Chuck Jackson, Chad Brackin, Al Summers, Jeffrey Bevis, Chris Wells, Timmy Mears, and Bob Eldridge.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Wells, Colquitt; two daughters, Rennie Faye Bevis and son-in-law, Terry, Maxine Summers and son-in-law, Kelley, Colquitt; two sons, John Edward Wells and daughter-in-law, Diane, Marvin Wells Jr. and daughter-in-law, Suzanne, Colquitt; two brothers, Harry Wells, Sidney Wells, Colquitt; one sister, Inez Powell, Colquitt; nine grandchildren, Al Summers, Suzanne Mears, Jeffrey Bevis, Cissy Eldridge, Heather Smith, Chris Wells, Anna Jackson, Dana Wells and Leslie Brackin; and nine great-grandchildren.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

HELEN HURLEY

Hen Hurley, 53, of Bainbridge, died Saturday, August 7, 2004, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Hurley was born August 13, 1949 in Chicago, IL to the late James Demotto and Mary Stark. She was a homemaker and of the Church of God Faith.

Survivors include her husband, Timothy L. Hurley of Bainbridge; three sons, James David Hyatt of Austin, TX, Christopher Hyatt of New York, NY, Timothy Hurely of Montgomery, AL; two brothers, James Demotto of Oklahoma and John Demotto of Live Oak, FL; six grandchildren.

Cox Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
