KENNETH MORGAN MARKHAM, SR.
Kenneth Morgan Markham Sr., 82, of Tallahassee, FL, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004, in Tallahassee, FL.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 11:00 at First Methodist Church in Attapulgus with full military honors. Rev. Jeanne Hill was the officiating minister. Interment followed in First Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Markham was born August 20, 1922 in Lincoln County, TN. He has lived here for 57 years in Decatur County. He is a retired Quincy State Bank Senior Ex. Vice president for 30 years and was a member of Attapulgus Methodist Church. He was a member of World War II POW Darby Rangers (1st ranger Bat), VFW, American Legion, Ranger Association, American Hemerocallis Society, Tallahassee Hemerocallis Society, Southwest Georgia Hermerocallis, Past Chairman of the Administrative Board of the Attapulgus First United Methodist Church, Graduated from LSU Banking School, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce, National Treasurer of Ranger Association, Past President of Kiwinis of Quincy.
Survivors include one son, Morgan Markham of Quincy, FL; one daughter, Virginia Shelton of Snellville; one brother, Bob Markham of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Ruth Durrelle, Nashville, TN; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonzo Bell and Wilma Lackey McGuire Markham and his wife, Margaret Taylor Markham.

JOY PHILLIPS
Joy Phillips, 72, of Albany, died Monday, November 1, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Edd Spurlock and Elder Max Childs officiating. Interment followed in Colquitt City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Mann, Michael Chesnut, Justin Calhoun, John Powell, Greg Hillard, Dr. Brad Harper, Shawn Vallandingham, and Jeremiah Tabb.
Mrs. Joy was born on December 2, 1931 in Early County. She graduated from Damascus High School and attended college at Milledgeville. Joy married her high school sweetheart, W.H. Phillips and they were married 54 years. Joy and W.H. lived in Albuquerque, NM and Chelmsford, England while he served in the Air Force. They raised their three daughters in Colquitt. Joy worked with Dr. Turner Rentz, Dr. James Merritt, and Dr. Hinton Merritt at the Merritt Clinic and for the Miller County School Superintendent, James Moore. In her fifties, Joy graduated from Darton College with her RN degree and was a nurse at Palmyra Hospital in Albany for 20 years. Joy attended Central Baptist Church and Primitive Baptist Churches with her husband.
Survivors include her husband, W.H. Phillips of Albany; her mother, Juanita Harper of Colquitt; one sister, Johnnie Powell of Sarasota, FL; one brother, Dr. Ferrell Harper of St. Simons Island; three daughters, Jan and son-in-law Mike Calhoun of Colquitt, Cindy and son-in-law Julian Mann of Waycross, and Nancy and son-in-law Dozier Tabb of Buffalo, WY; eight grandchildren, Michael Chesnut, Justin Calhoun, Amanda Calhoun, Jason Mann, Amanda Vallandingham, Savannah Tabb, Philip Tabb, and Jeremiah Tabb; and two great-grandchildren, Fuller and Tyler Vallandingham.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Harper.

HOYT DOUGLAS NEELY
Hoyt Douglas Neely, 83, of Recovery, died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Recovery United Methodist Church with Bro. Patrick Neely and Rev. Donna Sue Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvania Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Eric Neely, Calvin Cooksey, Keith Neely, Ronnie Smith, Christopher Neely, and Dennis Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion of Sneads, FL.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 10, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home.
Mr. Neely was born August 30, 1921 in Decatur County. He was a Water Filtration Supervisor of the Florida State Hospital of Chattahoochee, FL. He was a member of the US Army, a WWII Veteran, a Combat Medic serving in Rejavick, Iceland, and was a member of Recovery United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne Joiner of Jacksonville, FL, Tim Neely and wife Sandy of Quincy, FL, Johnny Neely and wife Shirley of Chattahoochee, FL; one sister, Myrtle Neely Smith of Recovery Community; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Emma Mae Davis Neely, and his wife, Juanita Neely.

LUCY CAROLYN HOOVER MINTER
Lucy Carolyn Hoover Minter, 79, of Hummelstown, PA and formerly of Leesburg, FL, died October 30, 2004, at the Manor Care Health Services in Elizabethtown, PA.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville with Rev. Luther Hastey officiating.
Mrs. Minter was born in Donalsonville on August 30, 1925 to the late Jefferson Davis and Alice Elizabeth Plymal Hoover. She taught school and was an office manager for W. Harris Minter, DDS. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Leesburg, FL, a member of the Joy Choir, WMU, and was also a Rotarian.
Survivors include one son, William Harris Minter Jr.; one daughter, Mary Eva and husband Frank Day; one sister, Odette and husband J.W. Miller; five grandchildren, Mrs. Dea Carey and husband Paul, Alicia Minter, Williams Harris Minter III, William Taylor Day, and Carolyn Elizabeth Day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Harris Minter, DDS; one brother, Jefferson Davis Hoover, Jr.; and one sister, Dorothy H. Laney. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
THOMAS E. MORRIS
Thomas E. Morris, 80, of Donalsonville, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at the Donalsonville Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home on Friday, November 12, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Ron McCaskill and Rev. Luther officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 11, 2004, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville.
Pallbearers will be Larry Blackburn, Larry Bush, Robert Jones, Bobby Moulton, Buddy Reese, and Roy Rogers. Honorary pallbearers were the Donalsonville Fire Department and Donalsonvile/Seminole County Volunteer Firemen.
Mr. Thomas was born in Seminole County on April 5, 1924 to the late Jim and Ida Thompson Morris. He worked for Three Notch as a lineman before retiring at the age of 65.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joyce B. Morris; one daughter, Gail Palmer and husband Troy of Donalsonville; three sons, Jim Morris and wife Sharon of Webb, AL, Randy Morris and wife Joanne of Iron City, Tony Morris and wife Deena of Donalsonville; one brother, Houston Morris of Donalsonville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Rossie Morris, Eva Lynn, and Ossie Mathis; and one brother, Walter Morris. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
JENNY FRANCES WILLIAMS SHINGLER
Mrs. Jenny Frances Williams Shingler, age 94, of Miller County died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at her residence.
Mrs. Shingler was an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Lucy Vanlandingham Circle, and member of the Addie Brigham Sunday School class. She was a lifetime member of the Donasonville Garden Club, winning many awards for her flower show entries.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kirk Loyless and the Rev. Jesse Evans officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carlton Thomas, Cory Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Tim Sheffield, Dr. Homer Breckenridge III, Joey Trice, Bill Burke and Mark Burkett.
Survivors include one son, F. Sinclair Shingler III and his wife, Evelyn, Donalsonville; two daughters, Virginia Conner, Fulton, MS, Elizabeth Roland, Colquitt; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

EMMA BUSH JONES MOORE
Mrs. Emma Bush Jones Moore, age 68, of Albany died Thursday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an illness.
A native of Miller County, Mrs. Moore had lived in Albany since 1964. She was an active member of Palyma Road United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, serving as Sunday School teacher of the United Class, member of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, the Church Administrative Board, United Methodist Youth Fellowship, as member and past president of United Methodist Women and the Wesley Ann Circle, and served/supported her church in all administrative and social endeavors. Upon graduation of Valdosta State College she became a school teacher for more than 38 years in Miler and Dougherty counties and Terrell Academy, retiring in 2000 but continued substitute teaching until a few weeks ago. Her love for her family and her God was felt by all who knew her and the same love was bestowed back by her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laverne and B.A. Jones Sr.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Palmyra Road United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cathy Green and the Rev. Allen Brooks officiating. Interment followed at 2:00 p.m. at Notchaway Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton.
Survivors include her husband, Emory Carroll Moore, Albany; two daughters, Melanie Moore Jackson, McDonugh, Melissa Moore Williams, Albany; two grandchildren and a step-granddaughter; one brother, B.A. Jones, Colquitt; one sister, Ernestine Jones Heard, Colquitt.

1st LT. DAN THOMAS MALCOM JR.
1st Lt. Dan Thomas Malcom, age 25, of Colquitt died Wednesday, November 10, 2004, as the Marines made their way into Fallujah, Iraq.
Lt. Malcom was born April 5, 1979. He was a member of Mother’s Home Free Will Baptist Church and was in the United States Marines. Dan was also a 1997 graduate of Miller County High School. He was a member of the Beta Club, the Quiz Bowl, the MCHS band, the basketball and baseball team for four years. He was also a member of the Math Team, the Chess Club, the Spanish Club and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Dan was the vice president of his junior class and president of his senior class. He received the UGA Certificate of Merit, Presbyterian College Fellowship Award, Science Award, Social Studies Award, English Award, Spanish Award, Academic Excellence, and Marine Corps NROTC scholarship award recipient. After high school graduation, he attended the Citadel and was awarded his 2nd Lt. Rank in the USMC. He was a platoon leader in the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, A Company.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19 at 4:00 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Tuesday, November 23.
Survivors include his mother, Cherry Malcom, Colquitt; sister and brother-in-law, Dana and Frank Killebrew, Donalsonville; niece, Elaine Killebrew; nephew, Tripp Killebrew; fiancee, Jessica Montaigne, Jacksonville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to the Lt. 1st Class Dan Thomas Malcom Jr. Scholarship Fund in care of Miller County High School, 96 Perry Street, Colquitt, GA 39837.

Joel Willie “J.W.” Miller, 90, of Jakin, died Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20, at 3:00 p.m. at the Jakin Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Hastey, Dr. Johnny Roberts, and Dr. Calvin Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the Jakin City Cemetery.

Mr. Miller was born in Cottonwood, AL on July 31, 1914. He was the son of the late Willie Virgil and Annette McClendon Miller. He moved to Jakin at an early age. Mr. Miller served as chairman of the Early County ASCS for fifteen years. During that time, Early County was voted as the top county east of the Mississippi River. He was engaged in farming and livestock his entire life. He was an active member of the Jakin Baptist Church and the Jakin Community Club, as well as serving on the Town Council.
Survivors include his wife, Odette Miller of Jakin; two sons, Johnny Miller and wife Jean, and Jerry Miller and wife Betty, all of Jakin; one step-son, Bill Golden and wife Brenda of Dothan, AL; one step-daughter, Claudette Herring and husband Jeff of Ft. Gaines; one sister, Louise Flemming of Panama City, FL; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Cannon Miller; his mother and father, Annette M. Miller and Willie V. Miller; two brothers; and two sisters. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
