REV. LARRY M. LAFFERTY
Rev. Larry M. Lafferty, 83, of Donalsonville, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with Rev. James Scarborough and Rev. Preston Wilson officiating. Interment followed in the Orange Baptist Church Cemetery at Live Oak, FL, on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at 2:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers were Tuddy Alday, Edward Crupm, Bobby Glover, Sammy Gray, Bill Martin, Gerald Richardson, Harold Sallas, Stacy Simmons, and Paul Blizzard.
Rev. Lafferty was born on May 15, 1921 to the late Larry Merle and Susan Platt Watts Lafferty of High Springs, FL. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was in Company B of the 128th Infantry. He was a Baptist minister, having preached for over 50 years. He was the charter pastor of the Lake Seminole Baptist Church, of which he was currently a member.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Merle Robinson Lafferty; one son, Alan Lee Lafferty and wife Jodie of Tallahassee, FL; four daughters, Alice Frances Stevens of Lakeland, FL, Pat Copeland and her husband Ashley of Lake Park, Faye Minear and her husband Jim of Donalsonville, and Polly Weaver and her husband Jim, also of Donalsonville; one sister Marcella Woods of Live Oak, FL; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three on the way and also five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents a brother, William Watts, and a sister, Joan Harper. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
ALICE BRADFORD
Alice Bradford, 55, of Donalsonville, died Wednesday, March 23, 2004 at her residence.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with Charlie Bradford officiating.
Mrs. Bradford was born in Odom, TX on October 7, 1949 to the late Woodrow and Viola Teschendorf. She and her husband Mike, of 19 years, were self-employed painters and had lived in the Donalsonville area for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Bradford of Donalsonville; one daughter, Sheila Sidebottom of Cudahy, WI; one grandson, Chris Sidebottom of Cudahy, WI; and several brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Roy Allen Sidebottom. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
BURKE "BUCK" BALDWIN DIXON JR.
Burke “Buck” Baldwin Dixon Jr., 80, of Bainbridge, died Tuesday, March 22, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services with full military honors were held Friday, March 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Leroy Spinks and Dr. Danny Shepard officiating. Interment followed in Oak City Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were the Barraca Sunday School Class.
Mr. Dixon was born July 12, 1924 in Decatur County to the late Burke Baldwin Sr. and Lola Marie Edwards Dixon. He was a retired machinist with Miller Hydro and was a decorated Marine Sergeant, 4th Division,1-3-24, World War II, received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bainbridge. He lived in Decatur County all his life.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jessamine Hanna Dixon of Bainbridge; two daughters Libby (Jack) Faircloth of Eclectic, AL, Vickie (Nelson) Conger of Cohutta; three grandchildren, Dana Williamson, Dr. Laura Conger-Moore M.D., Jennifer Teed; six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Grant, Riley, Alex, Grace, and Sam.

MAX GERALD NEWBERRY
Max Gerald Newberry, 54, of Donalsonville, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Donalsonville Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville with Dr. Ron McCaskill and Rev. Jimmy Hornsby officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville.
Mr. Newberry was born in Seminole County on May 16, 1950 to Eddie Easom Newberry and the late Benjamin Hoyt Newberry. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School and a truck driver. Before becoming a truck driver, Mr. Newberry had been a part of the family’s grocery retail business as long as it was in operation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Newberry; his mother, Eddie Newberry; one son, Chason Newberry and wife Gina; two daughters, Gena Miller and husband Bud, all of Donalsonville; Marci Harrison and husband Jarrod of Hagerstown, MD; one brother, Ted Newberry and his wife Becky; and one sister, Debbie O’Hearn and husband Dennis, both of Donalsonville; and four grandchildren, Parker and Christina Miller and Riley and Kaydon Newberry. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
WILLIAM R. KIRKLAND
William R. Kirkland, 81, of Monticello, FL, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Eden Springs Nursing Home in Crawfordville, FL.
Graveside service was held Monday, March 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Darwin Box officiating.
Mr. Kirkland was born in Ashford, FL on April 13, 1923 to the late Roy and Lillie Shelley Kirkland. His wife, Annie Elaine Whitehead Kirkland, preceded him in death. He was a farmer and resided in South Florida before moving to Monticello, FL, in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel Kirkland and wife Joyce of Crawfordville, FL, Wilbur Royce Kirkland of Sneads, FL; two daughters, Louise Wood and husband John of Tallahassee, FL, Joyce Syphrett and husband Wesley of Satsuma, AL; two sisters, Louise Thomas and husband John, and Dutchie Lee Thompson, all of Tallahassee, FL. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
MILDRED L. FLORENCE
Mildred L. Florence, 76, of Bainbridge, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at her residence.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Scarborough. Interment will follow in Cool Springs Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Michael Duke, Triston Duke, Ronnie Reedy, Mickey Reedy, Tyson Daniels, and Stanley Stevens. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Sharp and Frank Perritti.
Mrs. Florence was born March 3, 1929 in Clark County, IN. She moved to Decatur County in 1968, moving from Orlando, FL. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Rita Totman, Reginia Adams, Robin Stevens, all of Orlando, FL, and Rhonda Bergeron of Bainbridge; one son, Richard Bergeron of Bainbridge; four sisters, Collenn Sharp, Ruby Ewing, both of Orlando, FL, Della Dorsey of Cairo, and Martha Perritti of Tallahassee, FL; three brothers, Travis Killgore of Melbourne, FL, Frank Killgore of Oveido, FL, and Roy Killgore of Cairo; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Ruel Florence, and her parents, Reuben Oliver and Velvie McDougald Killgore.

EDNA KEATON WEST
Edna Keaton West, 93, of Decatur, died in March 2005 at Miller County Hospital.
Funeral services were held by Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. Interment followed at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur.
Ms. West was born August 4, 1911 in Baker County. She lived all her adult life in Decatur. She was a hairdresser and owned several Beat Shops in Decatur. She was very active in the Georgia Hairdressers Association and was president of it for several years. Ms. West was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur. She was a resident of Miller County Nursing Home.
Ms. West was preceded in death by her husband, Durrell West.

NIZA BROOKINS
Niza Brookins, age 89, of Donalsonville passed away Tuesday, march 29, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral services was held Thursday, march 31, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Oakview Church of God with Rev. Milton Pate and Rev. Mylan Brookins officiating. Interment followed n the Oakview Church of God Cemetery.
Mrs. Brookins was born in Early County on December 31, 1915 to the late Thomas Henry and Susie Knight Newberry. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Herman brookins, Sr. in 1959. She was a seamstress and worked at the local cleaners for many years. She loved working in her yards, was a joy to be around and loved her family and friends. She was a member of Oakview Church of God, Oakview Prime Timers, Oakview Women of Grace and Jubilees.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Chris Brookins and his wife Wanda, Herman Brookins, Jr. and his wife Nina both of Donalsonville; two daughters, Amelia Whittaker and her husband Manus of Donalsonville; Helen Dick and her husband John of Brinson; one brother Eugene E. Newberry of Boise, ID; one sister Myrtle Smith of Donalsonville; special niece Jackie Skeen and special nephew Don Skeen and his wife JoAnn all of Donalsonville. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Whittaker, Howard Whittaker, Dave Whittaker, Brian Brookins, Scott Brookins, Bob Brookins, Dean Brookins, and Jimmy Cannon. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
CATHERINE (KITTY) SHORES
Catherine (Kitty) Shores, age 80, of Gainesville, FL formerly of Donalsonville, GA passed away on Friday, March 25, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral services was held Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Bell officiating. Interment followed at Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery in Donalsonville.
Mrs. Shores was born in Decatur County on July 14, 1924 to the late Early and Arrie Faircloth Shores. She retired from General Electric and had lived in the Gainesville area for the passed 24 years; was a member of the Assembly of God and also the Moose Lodge.
She is survived by a daughter Linda K. Lawhorn of Gainesville, FL; two brothers Billy Shores of Trenton, FL and his wife Mary Ann; Earl Shores of Phoenix City, AL and his wife Helen; a sister Audrey B. Hall of Gainesville, FL. Two grandchildren Michelle Shores and Kathryn Lawhorn and two great-grandchildren Kelsey Schrock and Kevin Lawhorn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Pallbearers will be Earl Shores, John Jackson, Chris Jackson, E. J. Tipton, Sammy Joe Baker and Mike York. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
RAYMOND MILLER
Raymond Miller, 65, of Donalsonville, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Donalsonville Hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Merritt, Dr. Ron McCaskill, and Rev. Luther Hastey officiating. Interment followed in the Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mike Miller, Mark Miller, Greg Miller, Ralph Jones, Tony Atkinson, Tracy Atkinson, Roger Atkinson, and Tom Atkinson. Honorary pallbearers were present and past Seminole County Commissioners, members of the Donalsonville Country Club, and members of the graduating class of 1957 from Jakin High School.
Mr. Miller was born in Seminole County on April 6, 1939 to the late John Fuller and Estelle Florence Pace Miller. He graduated from Jakin High School in 1957 and worked with the Postal Service here for 40 years. He served for several years on the Board of Directors for the Donalsonville Country Club, as serving a four year term on the Seminole County Board of Education. Mr. Miller served the citizens of Seminole County for eight years as a County Commissioner. He was a member of the Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Miller; three sons, Ronnie Miller and wife Karen, Scott Miller and wife Babs, and Steve Miller, all of Donalsonville; four brothers, Watson Miller and wife Walla of Tallahassee, FL, Frank Miller and wife LaRue of Edison, Jimmy Miller, and Gerald Miller and wife Sharon, all of Donalsonville; one sister, Lillian Gallatin of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Carabeth and Annabeth Miller, Lance, Adam, and Emma Kate Miller, and Chris and Lyle Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
MARY ALICE SUGGS MOORE
Mary Alice Suggs Moore, 93, of Bainbridge, formerly of Miller and Baker County, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at County Line Baptist Church in Colquitt with Rev. Danny Shepard officiating. Burial will follow in County Line Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Ivey Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jonathan Moore, Bernard Moore, Michael Brock, Danny Moore, Philip Moore, Jeffery Turner, Tommy Moore, Harry Rich, and Johnny Turner.
Mrs. Moore was born on June 30, 1911 in Baker County, the daughter of Green Matthew Suggs and Sarah Frances Suggs. She was a homemaker and a member of County Line Baptist Church in Colquitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis L. Moore Jr., and two sons, Troy Moore and Fhalis Moore.
Survivors include one son, Glyndell Moore of Woodstock; one daughter, Gracie Brock Hunt of Bainbridge; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

MICHAEL JUSTIN CALHOUN
Mr. Michael Justin Calhoun, 26, of Colquitt, Ga passed away Monday, April 4, 2005, at Macon Medical Center. The visitation will be Tuesday evening, April 5, 2005 from 7-9 PM at Colquitt Funeral Home. The funeral will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Colquitt First Baptist Church with Elder W. H. Phillips and Rev. Don Bazel officiating. Active pallbearers will be Sloan Childree, Brian Childree, LaDon Calhoun, Kevin Calhoun, Eric Hall, Kevin Hall, and Jerry Thornton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Miller County High School class of 1997. Interment will follow at Colquitt City Cemetery.
Mr. Calhoun was born April 29, 1978 in Miller County. While in high school, Justin was active in the Future Farmers of America. He was awarded the Greenhand, Chapter Farmer, and State Farmer Degrees. Justin was also a member of the MCHS Golf Team. He earned Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, an achievement for which he was particularly proud. He graduated from Miller County High School in 1997 and Bainbridge College in 2003. He was a member of Colquitt First Baptist Church where he was part of the missions team that traveled to Wyoming to help build a church in Buffalo. Justin was attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA pursuing a Turf Management and Horticulture Degree. He worked at Orgil Distributors.
Mr. Calhoun is survived by his mother, Gail Calhoun of Colquitt; father and step-mother, Mike and Jan Calhoun of Colquitt; one sister, Amanda Calhoun of Colquitt; one step-brother, Michael Chesnut of Colquitt; maternal grandparents, Rudolph and Myrtle Drake of Donalsonville; and step-grandparents, W. H. Phillips & the late Joy Phillips of Colquitt. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Johnnie & Juanita Calhoun and Jewel Bush Calhoun.
