Margaret Ethel Brunner, 88, of Colquitt, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at Miller Nursing Home. Her body was cremated.
Mrs. Brunner worked in the Parts Department with Intersate Harvester in Hawaii. She was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her close friends, Frances Taylor of Donalsonville, and Melanie Booker of Tallahassee, FL.
Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
EUGENE MCLENDON
Eugene McLendon, 79, of Bainbridge and formerly of Donalsonville, died Friday, May 27, 2005 at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 29, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Luther Hastey officiated. Interment followed in the New Salem Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Miller County.
Pallbearers were Jowl Rackley, Dennis Rackley, Brad Rackley, Jason Rackley, Brian Atkinson, and Kenneth West.
Mr. McLendon was born on August 4, 1925 in Miller County to the late George Allen and Lou Gilbert McLendon. He worked as a brick mason for 38 years.
Survivors include one son, Danny McLendon and his wife Sandra of Brinson; one brother, Joe Tom McLendon and his wife Luverne of Colquitt; one sister, Collie Mae Nix of Colquitt; two grandchildren, Stephanie Atkinson and her husband Brian of Pelham, AL and Jeremy McLendon of Brinson; a special friend, Adene Pope of Bainbridge; and several nieces and nephews. BRYANT ARTHUR PHILLIPS
Bryant Arthur Phillips, 85, of Jacksonville, FL, died Sunday, May 22, 2005 in Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 29, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Mike Close officiating. Interment followed in Colquitt City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Phil Phillips, Carlos Loyola, Scott Clover, Andy Close, Dan Budd, and Frank Japour.
Survivors include one son, Jimmie Phillips and wife, Jane, of St. Matthews, SC; two sisters, LaVerne Japour of Jacksonville, FL and Hazel Clover of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Phil Phillips and wife KrisAnn of Gurnee, IL, Heather Phillips of Chicago, IL, Mike Close and wife, Teresa, of Locust Grove, and Andy Close and wife, Tracy, of Newnan; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

JESSIE LAVERT ANGLIN POWELL
Jessie Lavert Anglin Powell, 88, of Blakely, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 2, 2005, at the Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Derrell Newberry and Dr. Joe Hodges officiating. Interment followed in Pinelawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell was born October 3, 1916 in Worth County. She lived most of her life in Miller County. She worked as a salesperson and homemaker and was a member of Centerville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, William C. and Evelyn Powell of Blakely; one brother, Louie Anglin of Blakely; two sisters, Addie Mae McDonald of Blakely, and Fannie Pearl Hogue of Peachtree City; one half brother, Willie Anglin of Bainbridge; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Colin Anglin and Fannie Pearl Perry Anglin and her husband, Marion Clarence Powell.

JUANITA CHANCE QUICK
Juanita Chance Quick, age 87, of Winter Haven, FL formerly of Donalsonville, passed away Monday, May 30, 2005 in Winter Haven, FL.
Graveside service was held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City.
Mrs. Quick was born in Seminole County on November 29, 1917 to the late William J. and Annie Lois Bentley Chance. She moved to Florida in 1952 and worked as a telephone operator for Florida Telephone.
She is survived by one daughter Barbara Cox of Winter Haven, FL one sister Vada Spooner of Iron City. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
FERRELL COOK MOULTRIE SR.
Ferrell Cook Moultrie Sr., 80, of Vestavia Hills, AL, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Romigh officiating. Interment followed in the family plot in Colquitt City Cemetery.
Mr. Moultrie was born in Harris County on October 17, 1924. After graduating from Mountain Hill School in May, 1942, Mr. Moultrie was employed by Georgia Power Company until he entered military service with the 838th Ordnance Depot Company, and served as art of the U.S. 3rd Army under General Patton in the European Theater of WW II. His company was dispatched to England aboard the Queen Mary for raining in April of 1944 and then ferried across the English Channel in an LCT (Landing Craft Transport) to land on Utah Beach on August 5, 1944, a few days after D-Day. After the war, Mr. Moultrie volunteered as a leader in the Scouting program, helped coach high-school basketball, and attended school in electrical technology in Albany after rejoining his employment with the Georgia Power Company. Mr. Moultrie married the former Eva Ruth Tabb on May 23, 1948. After moving to Atlanta, he helped charter and served on the board of the All good Road Methodist church in Dekalb County. In 1961, the family moved to Vestavia Hills, AL. Mr. Moultrie joined Vestavia Hills Methodist Church and was active as a Scout leader serving from 1965 through 1980 as Webelos Den Leader and Cubmaster of Pack 352, Committee Member and Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 4, and finally as Committee Member and Explorer Advisor of Explorer Post 4. Both of Mr. Moultrie’s sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout and were selected as members of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Ruth Tabb Moultrie of Vestavia Hills, AL; two sons, Ferrell Cook Moultrie Jr. and wife Ivy of Roswell, and Daniel Louis Moultrie and wife Patti of Vestavia Hills, AL; two brothers, Marvin Pierce Moultrie of Jacksonville, FL and Roy Dean Moultrie of Mountain Hill; one sister, Francis Elizabeth Moultrie of Mountain Hill; four grandchildren, Christopher Tabb Moultrie, Katherine Elizabeth Moultrie, Ashley Carol Moultrie, and Daniel Joseph Moultrie.

LOUVERN WEAVER YATES
Louvern Weaver Yates, 90, of Brinson, died Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Brinson with the Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons Eldridge Cannon, Darius Cannon, James Cannon, Bo Jones, Ed Jones, and J.W. Jones.
Mrs. Yates was born on May 29, 1915 in Early County, the daughter of Hulbert Otis Weaver and Bertha Dorina Weddington Weaver. She married Willis Rudolph Yates and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Y. Cannon and Judy Y. Jones, both of Brinson; one brother, Therman Barber of Bainbridge; two sisters, Waldine Scott of Brinson and Christine Boyett of Climax; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Everett I. Barber and Willis Rudolph Yates and three sons, Donnie W. Yates, Gerald I. Yates, and Alan Steve Yates.

EMMA LOYLESS CUMBIE
Mrs. Emma Loyless Cumbie, 88, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville, GA. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel in Bainbridge, GA with Rev. Ed Harrell officiating. Interment followed at West Bainbridge Cemetery in Bainbridge, GA.
Mrs. Cumbie was born September 15, 1916 in Miller County, GA, the daughter of George W. Loyless and Minnie Cloud Loyless. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, N. B. Cumbie, and a daughter, Jimmie Ruth Cumbie King.
Survivors include a son, Nathan Cumbie and his wife, Loraine, of Dothan, AL; a daughter, Mary C. Niles and her husband, James, of Merrifield, MN; nine grandchildren, Wallace Jim Niles, Christy Niles Peterson, Brenda King McNair, Linda King Dillard, William D. “Billy” King, James Edwin King, Carolyn Ann King Chason, Nathan Earl Cumbie, Jr., and Sharon Cumbie Pauley; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

GERALD SANDERS
Gerald Sanders, age 76, of Donalsonville, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at the Donalsonville Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with the Rev. Eric Boomer officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Bert Adams, Jim Beswick, William Bledsoe, Carl Fain, Don Gambrell, Brandon Harrell, Brian Harrell and Marty Shingler.
Mr. Sanders was born on December 15, 1928 in Brundidge, AL to the late Will and Nellie Sanders. He worked for many years with Gibson Construction Co. before working with the City of Donalsonville until his retirement.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Debbie Sanders of Lubbock, TX; two brothers, Winford Sanders and Ray Sanders both of Brundidge, AL; three sisters, Eunice King and Inez Ealles of Brundidge, AL and Vera Brown of Donalsonville; two granddaughters, Allie and Katie Sanders of Lubbock, TX; two grandsons, Jeremy Sanders of South Carolina and B.J. Sanders of Knoxville, TN. Also surviving are two special friends and caregivers, Adelle Phillips and Don Gambrell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Faulk Sanders; a son, Kenneth Sanders; and two brothers, Buddy Sanders and Roy Sanders. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
NETTIE JOHNSON MERRITT
Nettie Johnson Merritt, 103, of Miller County, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 6, 2005 at 12:00 Noon at College Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Milton W. Merritt officiating. Interment followed in Magnolis Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were grandsons, Anthony W. Merritt, Mark E. Merritt, Nicholas N. Merritt, Milton W. Merritt, Jr., Algin Merritt, Ezra Wayne Merritt, John W. Merritt II, and Richard Paramore.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons and trustees of College Park Baptist Church.
Mrs. Merritt, daughter of William James and Eliza Warren, was born on November 1, 1901 in Miller County. She spent the greater part of her life in service to others. Her love for children of all backgrounds and cultures caused her to be regarded as an icon by all who knew her. Because of her special attraction for children in need, her home just off of the campus of Savannah State University became a haven for students who could no afford the cost of living on campus.
Survivors include two daughters, Edith (George) McDuffie and Myrtle (Earnest “Joe”) Baulkmon; three sons, Milton (Alice) Merritt, John (Edith) Merritt and Ezra Merritt; one brother, Rubin (Martha) Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Annie Pearl Johnson and Cornelia Johnson; 44 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Wayne Merritt; three sons, James Ellis Merritt, Patrick Henry Merritt, and Robert Levi Merritt; three sisters, Mary Sneed, Ruth Green, and Helen Bush; six brothers, Jethro Johnson, David Johnson, William Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, and Henry Johnson.

We regret to announce the passing of Fred Lee Conoly, Sr. age 75, of Donalsonville who passed away Monday, June 20, 2005 at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.

Mr. Conoly was born in Decatur County, GA on July 29, 1929 to the late Wallace Clarence and Lena Averett Conoly. He served his country in the US Air Force, retired from Georgia Pacific in 1990. He was a member of Iron City Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mamie Conoly of Donalsonville, GA; two sons Lee Conoly and his wife Cyndi and Mike Conoly and his wife Lisa both of Iron City, GA; one brother Julian Conoly of Bainbridge, GA; five grandchildren Zack, Logan, Micah and Merredith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Tauton, Jerry Houston, Zack Conoly, Micah Conoly, Kevin Conoly and David Conoly. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Hornsby, Harold Crosson and the Adult II Men’s Sunday School Class at Iron City Baptist Church.
