HILDA LORENA CRAFT MITCHELL

Hilda Lorena Craft Mitchell, 87, of Colquitt, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005 in Houston, TX.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 14, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at the Colquitt Funeral Home with the Reverend James Craft and Dr. Carl Marshall officiating. A private burial followed at the Cross-Roads Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Benjamin Rouse, Jr., John Griffin Wright, Charles Benjamin Rouse, III, David Mitchell Rouse, and Jackson Dukes.
Mrs. Mitchell, the daughter of Lorena Elizabeth Lawrence and James Glysson Craft, was born on July 27, 1918 in Baker County. A resident of Early County for most of her life, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Colquitt First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Perer Early Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Dougherty County Chapter #187, UDC.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Wauneithe Mitchell and C. Ben Rouse, of Houston, TX; one sister, Maggie Newberry of Arlington; four grandchildren, Pamela Hilda Rouse Wright of Houston, TX, Charles Benjamin Rouse, Jr. of Austin, TX, Susan Waunceithe Rouse of Lubbock, TX, and Laurie Mitchell Barlett of Atlanta; and six great-grandchildren, William Hailey Dunklin, III, Sarah-Elise Mitchell Dunklin, Charles Benjamin Rouse III, Hunter Warren Rouse, David Mitchell Rouse and Jackson Dukes.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bill Dougan Mitchell; one son, Glysson Lawrence Mitchell; one brother, Maurice Whiddon Craft; and one sister, Margaret Craft Bryan.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

MARIE PAULETTE CHILDREE

Marie Paulette Childree, 77, of Donalsonville, died Friday, August 12, 2005 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 13, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville with Father Guy Wilson officiating.

Mrs. Childree was born in Metz, France on June 18, 1928 to the late Edmond and Anna Heymes Mathy. She married James Childree who preceded her in death in 2000. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Incarnation.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Childree of Bainbridge; two granddaughters, Jamye Hathcoat and husband Kial of Bainbridge, Melynda Childree of Tallahassee, FL; two great grandchildren, Grace Hathcoat and Carter Hathcoat; one brother-in-law, Glenn Childree and wife, Dolly, of Brinson; two sister-in-laws, Mary Melahn of Oregon and Flora McGruder of Kentucky. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

WILLIE CARLTON GRIFFIN

Willie Carlton Griffin, 75, of Colquitt, died Sunday, August 14, 2005, in Colquitt.

Graveside services were held Monday, August 15, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. in Donley Cemetery with the Rev. David Womack officiating.

Mr. Griffin was born May 31, 2005 in Miller County and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Bellview Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Wonde McConnell of Bainbridge, Vickie Smith of Camilla, Kathy Simmons of Roseboro, NC, and Deede Gary of Statesboro; one son, Willie Carlton Griffin Jr. of Damascus; four sisters, Eugenia Attaberry, Annie Lou Freeman, Pauline Kelly, and Martha (Dolly) Winn, all of Colquitt; one brother, Tommy Griffin of Bainbridge; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Ollie Mae Vespa; one brother, Robbie Griffin; and his parents, O.L. and Mattie Lou Griffin.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

LORE PHILLIPS

Lore Phillips, 24, of Colquitt, died Sunday, August 14, 2005, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Mock and Rev. Fletcher Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in Cooks Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lamar Cook, Luke Cook, Chance Cook, John Shiver Jr., Phillip Lane, and Edwin King.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Colquitt Funeral Home.

Ms. Phillips was born September 28, 1980 in Miller County and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her parents, Aubrey and Lucy Cook of Colquitt; her father, Russell Lavone Phillips of Colquitt; her grandmother, Myrtice Allen of Colquitt; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Nancy Phillips of Colquitt; one niece, Sutton Alyse Phillips of Colquitt; four aunts, Faustine Cook of Colquitt, Elain Hallett of Colquitt, Elaine Amerison of Jakin and Patricia White of Milford, FL; three uncles, James Jackson Shiver, Jerry Ronald Shiver, and Riley Benny Phillips, all of Colquitt; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

SALLIE MAE NUNNERY WACASER

Sallie Mae Nunnery Wacaser, 93, of Bainbridge, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.

Grave side services were held Friday, August 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in West Bainbridge Cemetery with the Reverend Jimmy Dean officiating.

Mrs. Wacaser was born February 26, 1912 to the late Murdock McKinnon and Florence Jane Fort Nunnery in Fayetteville, NC. She lived in Decatur County for all of her adult life. She was a homemaker that loved to crochet and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include, two daughter, Sally Ann (Don) Lovelady of Bainbridge, Patty (Wayne Townsend of Bainbridge; one sister, Eula Matthews of Bainbridge; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, David Wacaser.

Cox Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

CHARLES MCDONALD

Charles McDonald, 87, of Iron City, died Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the Donalsonville Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Milton Pate officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at Evans-Skipper. You may share your thoughts with the family by visiting Evans-Skipper website at www.evansskipperfh.com.

Mr. McDonald was born in Portland, Oregon on August 27, 1917. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was married to Gladys Hile McDonald for 49 years, lived in this area for the past 20 years, and worked as an electrician.

Survivors include his wife Gladys McDonald, two sons, Raymond Glen McDonald and his wife Pamela all of Iron City; and James Michael McDonald and his wife Debra of Pelham; seven grandchildren, Curtis, James, Steven, Amanda, Roger, Jennifer, Matthew and three great grandchildren. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

JAMES WILLIAM KIMBRELL

James William Kimbrel, 52, of Blakely, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005, in Blakely.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles DeVane and Rev. Newton Cranford officiating. Interment following in Blakely Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers were Steve Peace, James Cochran, Arthur Chestnut, Bruce Phillips, Jeff Thompson, and Bill Cleveland. Honorary pallbearers were electricians, Curtis Hamblin and Ronnie Shiver.

Mr. Kimbrel was born October 25, 1952 in Calhoun County. He worked as a electrician and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Clay County.

Survivors include his daughter, Missy K. Whitley and husband Jesse of Brinson; one granddaughter, Katlyn Whitley; two step-grandsons, Zack Whitley and Christ Whitley; his step-father, Robert Brooks of Blakely; his mother, Elizabeth Douglas Brooks of Blakely; two sisters, Linda Coleman of Blakely and Cindy Mulkey of Blakely; one brother, David Kimbrell of Louisville, TX; two step-brothers, Kevin Brooks of Blakely and Randy Brooks of Boulder, CO.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

RALPH JAMES BALKCOM

Mr. Ralph James Balkcom, age 85 of Blakely died Friday, April 21, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Balkcom was born in Early County March 31, 1921 to the late James Cornelius Balcom and Ethel Green Balkcom. He lived all of his life in Early County and was a retired farmer and State Legislator. He was a member of the Colomokee Baptist Church where he was a deacon and also served as the church clerk of 50 years. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton and later was selected as Baldwin Master Farmer of the Year in 1959. He was a member of Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Farm Credit, the Georgia Catteleman’s Association, the Georgia Association of Conservation District Past President, GACDS Farmer of the Year in 1949, inducted in the Hall of Fame of the Soil Conservation District Supervisor, selected by Flint River Soil and Water District Supervisors as “Conservationist of the Year” 1993 and Top Cotton producer. He was elected to the Early County Chamber of Commerce in 1976 and 1980. He was a member of Magnolia Lodge #86, Blakely Chapter #282 Order of Eastern Star, Hasan Temple Shrine Club, member of the American Legion, President of Rotary Club, President of Blakely-Early County Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Early County Board of Education for 12 years. He was a member of Board of Directors for First State Bank, Early Memorial Hospital Board, Early County Historical Society, Chattahoochee Historical Society, Georgia Citizens Library Commission, Chairman of Community Telephone Commission, President Community Improvement Club, ASCS Advisory Commission, director of Three Notch Membership Corporation, was awarded a plaque for 37 years of service to Southwest Georgia Farm Credit (1967-2004) and a plaque for Support of Albany Association for Retarded Citizens (1986.)
He was elected into the Georgia House of Representatives December 13, 1977. While in the House, he served on the Agricultural Committee, Committee on Bank and Banking, and the Journals Committee. He also served on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Board
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Colomokee Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Odom officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery
Active pallbearers will be the grandchildren: Laura Balkcom, Allen Balkcom, Evan Balkcom, Matthew Balkcom, Brad Balkcom and Jon Balkcom.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the Colomokee Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Medlin Balkcom, Blakely; two sons, Ronnie Charles Balkcom, Abbeville, AL, Wayne James and wife, Donna, Blakely; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Mildred Balkcom.

DAVID EARL PHILLIPS

David Earl Phillips, 48, of Colquitt, died Friday, October 13, 2006, at Miller County Hospital.
Graveside services were held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City with Rev. Tim Bell officiating.
Mr. Phillips was born in Donalsonville on August 17, 1958, to the late Mixon Phillips and Emma Lorene Jones. He worked in the construction industry as a general laborer and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Arvin Jones of Eldorendo; four brothers, Marlis Eugene and Laverne Phillips of Donalsonville, James Roy and Janice Phillips of Bainbridge and Curtis Phillips of Colquitt; and several nieces and nephews.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

REVEREND ELIJAH BURR

Rev. Elijah Burney, age 83, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, at Muhlenberg Medical Center in Plainfield, New Jersey.
Rev. Burney was born to the late Julia and Robert Burr on June 23, 1923, in Miller County. He was drafted into the United States Navy, where he served for three years, upon completion and following VJ Day. He was called to pastor the First Baptist Church in Carteret, NJ, in 1954. His genuine love for God and His people was like a beacon light. He served as secretary of the Ministerial Alliance of Newark and vicinity, member of Ministerial Alliance of Carteret, NJ, a member of the permanent counsel of the Middlesex Central Baptist Association, where he served as treasurer, District leader of the Democratic Party.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 5, at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, with the Rev. Arthur Brown officiating. Interment followed in Forest Green Cemetery in Morganville, New Jersey.
Survivors include twin daughters, Equilla Crosby (George) Plainfield, NJ, and Priscilla Bowen (George) of Piscataway; one son, Benjamin Burr, Plainfield, NJ; two brothers, Josh Burr, Newark, NJ, Cecil Burr (Lessie), Rahway; sister, Effie Whitaker, Newark, NJ; sister-in-law, Essie B. Burr, East Orange; and a host of grandsons, great-grandsons, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Judkins Colonial Home, Inc. Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

ARTHUR MICHAEL PROBERT

Mr. Arthur Michael Probert, 75, of Newton, AL, formerly of Miller County passed away October 10, 2006, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Mr. Probert was born May 27, 1931, in Freeland, PA. He served two tours of duty in Korea, two tours of duty in Vietnam and finished out his military career in Germany retiring after 21 years of service to his country. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Donalsonville.
Graveside services were held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, October 13, at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville with full military honors. Rev. Graton Helms officiated.
Survivors include his wife, Fran Probert of Newton, AL; two sons, Michael F. (Polly) Probert of Bainbridge and Allen H. (Dana) Probert of Newton, AL; one brother, Edwin Probert of Freeland, PA; two sisters, Bernice Whitehead of Freeland , PA and Albertis Hickok of Troy, PA; and two grandsons, Bradley Probert and Brian Probert.
