Violet Lord Lowe, age 91 of Good Hope, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at Good Hope Christian Church with the Revs. Willis Lumpkin, Kenneth Courts, Morris Little, Doyle Wallace and Ray Brooks officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lowe worked as a CNA and volunteer at Family Life Enrichment Center and was a member of Good Hope Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harris Lowe; brothers: Talmadge Lord and James Lord; and is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Sue and Bill Shirey of Athens and Betty and Nelson Bowers of Good Hope; brother: Charlie Lord of Good Hope; sisters: Mary Alice Harrill of Slater, SC and Doris Lowe of Monroe; grandchildren: Lee and Cindy Shirey, Dawn and Chris Blizard, Jeff and Erin Winter-Shirey, Ben and Melody Bowers, Matt and Jenny Bowers, Christy and Justin Myers; 12 great-grandchildren.

Benny E. Wall, age 59 of Monroe, died on Dec. 21st. He was born in Clarke County on Feb. 23, 1949 to the late Euell Wall and the late Lucille Wall. He was preceded in death by his sister, the late Lois Stowe. Surviving are: wife: Yvonne Wall of Monroe; Son and daughter-in-law: Michael Benjamin and Vicki Wall of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Dena and Brian Young of Monroe; sisters: Ruth Burt of Monroe, Mary Ann Jones of Monroe; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 23rd at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Phillips and the Rev. Kenneth Deitle officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Cornelia Maddox, age 74 of Monroe died on Feb. 17, 2009. She was born in Walton County on July 11, 1934 to the late Arthur Elsmore and the late Florence Bridges Elsmore. Mr. Stowe was retired from Dekalb County as a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser and a member of Snellville United Methodist Church. J.T. O’Kelley, age 84 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009. Mr. O’Kelley was an active member of Center Hill Baptist Church in Gratis, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, as well as on the building committee. He was a member of UAW Local 10, and he served his country in the Navy. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 in the Monroe Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Marion Prather officiating. Interment followed in Westlawn Cemetery. Lois Margaret Harless
Lois M. (Polly) Harless, 76 of Loganville passed away on Jan. 24, 2009 after a long but hard-fought illness. Born and raised in Rocky Gap VA., she resided for many years in Howard County Md., and retired to Loganville in 1986. She was predeceased by her husband: Harold Russell in 2006. Polly’s love of animals was evident all her life. She often told stories of growing up in the rural hills of Va., and the baby farm animals that were her childhood companions and playmates. Always a dog lover, she later came to enjoy cats. She loved and took great pleasure in all her pets over the years, several being strays and rescues. They lived long and happy lives in her care.

Mr. Royal W. Hardegree
Mr. Royal W. Hardegree, age 90, of Winder, Ga. died Jan. 25, 2009. A native and lifelong resident of Barrow County, he was a son of the late Caulus and Nellie Wilson Hardegree. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Daniel Hardegree on Jan. 30, 2002. He was a Marine Corp veteran of World War II, and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Hardegree was a retiree of Carwood Manufacturing Company with forty-seven years of service. James Olon Polston
James Olon Polston, 85 of Chamblee died Jan. 23, 2009. He was a WWII Army Veteran, having served as a medical corps technician for the 24th and 41st Divisions in the South Pacific. Olon graduated from the University of Florida with an engineering degree and was licensed to practice as a mechanical, civil or structural engineer in thirteen states. He was a member of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, and was awarded “Life Membership” in the National Society of Professional Engineers after Serving as a member or over forty years. He was also a Life Member of the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta. Olon was a member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church for forty years, and was instrumental in starting the English as a Second Language program at that location. He was active in his church and his profession, having served in many leadership positions. Olon was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Myrl Woodham Polston, and their son Dr. J. Timothy Polston.

She was preceded in death by her son, the late Weyman White, her sister, the late Elizabeth Gilreath, and her brothers, the late Charlie Gilreath and the late Bud Gilreath. Maurice “Monte” Wilkins
Maurice “Monte” Wilkins, 50, entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009. Mr. Wilkins was born on July 24, 1958 in Macon. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1976 and was a self-employed carpenter. Of the Protestant Faith, he attended New Life Baptist Church. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed music, loved to cook, and spend time with his family. His son, Josheuea D. Wilkins, father, Everett Berton Wilkins, brother, Kerry Wilkins, and grandmother, Mary Kate Peters, all preceded him in death. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife: Connie Mishoe Wilkins; mother: Aluara Peters Wilkins; sons: Jeremy Wilkins, Japan, and Christopher M. (LeAnn) Widener, Sr., Columbia, South Carolina; daughters: Naomi R. Widener and Tiffany M. Widener, both Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter-in-law: Heather Wilkins, Gay, Georgia; sister: Charmin (Crayton) Young, Washington, Georgia; and seven grandchildren. Anderson T. "Andy" Maddox, age 68 of Loganville, formerly of Buford died Saturday March 21, 2009. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday March 24, in the Buford Chapel of TimStewart Funeral Home. The Rev. A.J. Mullinax officiated. Interment followed at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Buford. Mr. Maddox retired from the City of Buford Water Department after 20 years of service. He enjoyed working in the garden and also enjoyed NASCAR. Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by his wife: Rosa Lee Maddox; son: Roy T. Maddox; parents: Ernest A. and Lula Bell Maddox; brothers: Chester Maddox, J. E. Maddox, Gene Maddox, Carl Maddox; sister: Louise McDaniel.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Margaret; daughter: Joyce Stiehl, Social Circle; brother: Bill Cole, Keeling,VA; grandchildren: Heather Smith, Shane Wallace, Leslie Korona. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday March 15 in Eternal Hills Chapel with Chaplain Julie Schendel officiating. Interment, Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. Ileana Bentley
Ileana Bentley, age 81 of Monroe, died on March 10, 2009. She was born in Walton County on Nov. 12, 1927 to the late Thomas Benton and the late Nell McDonald Benton. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Emmett Cleveland and her half-sister: the late Joe Hathcock. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Terry Bentley of Monroe, David and Elaine Bentley of Monroe; sister: Joan Andrews of Monroe; brother: Barney Benton of Winder; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral Services were held on Friday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Lonnie Blackmon officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements. The Walton Tribune March 18, 2009
